Popped into here for a bite of lunch.
First time in Kirkcudbright. Picked here as it had a lavatory and was quite desperate.
Once inside, it was a lovely clean space with a friendly welcome from the staff.
We chose the soup and scone; two choices, one of each flavour.
After a few minutes we were presented with too substantial bowls of soup and half a huge scone each, as we’d only ordered one.
Both soups were delicious and hearty; the scone was light and tasty.
We couldn’t finish it all, so the staff carefully packed up the leftover soup for us, which we look forward to having for lunch tomorrow.
Great find, great food.
Had evening meal here last night after being told ,it's the best food in Gretna .
Utterly disappointed at what was presented.
Perhaps the owners need to see whats on offer literally on the doorstep ! We ate in a wonderful place in Annan the week before and yes theyre the same price point but a whole different leage on the food ,service and surroundings.
We were really looking forward to our meal from Sun Kai as an end of holiday treat....sadly the best thing about the food was the microwave safe containers it came in! Rice was salty and hard, prawns were tough and in awful batter and the chow mein had overcooked noodles and undercooked everything else and was really tasteless. I can't believe it's gone so bad in only a year. We won't be back and if I could give minus stars, I would.
This is only a takeaway nowadays, so atmosphere isnt relevant.
Lovely lady runs it, I think her name is Christine.. Very polite. The food is always delicious & high quality. Best in Dumfries by far.

This has been our place to go since I was a young lad for our family takeaway nights , and although there are times when it's lack of taste
In over all consistency is great , having tried Chinese in varies places and countries I can count only a small few that compare to the great Wall and Billy
And jade has always been friendly always makes you feel like a special customer along with the rest of the family
Visited on Saturday and went upstairs for a coffee. Tea room is traditional which is very nice. Staff member who served my table was very pleasant but when I went to pay I was met by a very surly rude older member of staff. When I didn’t have a bill to hand over, she was visually not pleased and I then said to her I didn’t know I needed one because I had never been before. She then retorted, without looking up at me, and said, “ Well, I’m here every day!” Really ?? Come on…it doesn’t take much for politeness and good customer service. Sadly that attitude lets a whole staff team down which Barbours need to address through staff training if they wish to maintain high standards.
Had intended having coffee at a nearby garden centre with a group of friends before we all went our separate ways having been together for Hogmanay. But the garden centre was closed so we thought we would try the nearby hotel. Phoned to check they could accommodate us and were told "yes". It turned out to be a very enjoyable visit as we were made to feel welcome despite only having coffees. A lovely end to our New Year celebrations. Thanks to all the staff at Hetland Hall!
A beautiful grand building in a wonderful setting. It was very quiet but the service and food were excellent. Not cheap but definitely worth it for a special occasion.
From start to finish, just lovely! Home cooked food, with a genuine warm welcome. very reasonable (if not too cheap?) I'd highly recommend. Plus their original reciepe ice cream is to die for!
Found this wee gem of a place while down here on holiday. Service was exemplary from the young lady who served us. Food was utterly delicious with the portions being huge. Really can't fault the place at all. If we are ever down this way again then we will be back.
