Popped into here for a bite of lunch. First time in Kirkcudbright. Picked here as it had a lavatory and was quite desperate. Once inside, it was a lovely clean space with a friendly welcome from the staff. We chose the soup and scone; two choices, one of each flavour. After a few minutes we were presented with too substantial bowls of soup and half a huge scone each, as we’d only ordered one. Both soups were delicious and hearty; the scone was light and tasty. We couldn’t finish it all, so the staff carefully packed up the leftover soup for us, which we look forward to having for lunch tomorrow. Great find, great food.

I have just had one of the worst experiences of my life at a cafe/restaurant. The lady serving was hostile from the start and despite it being nowhere near closing time we were made to feel very uncomfortable. Our order did not fully come despite back and forth clarification. At one point I politely asked if it was to get some hot water for my hot drink ( which was Luke warm when it came to the table). The lady looked at me as if I was a lunatic. This is such a shame as previously we had a good experience and recommended the place to our friends and family. There was absolutely no way the order was wrong as at one point we asked if part of the order was still coming to which we were told it was coming. When it didn’t arrive we were made to feel we had made a mistake. Will not be returning.

Disappointed with our lunch and even more disappointed by the staffs reaction to our complaint. They didn't care at all and charged us in full. Gluten free bread fell apart and no coleslaw or salad even though it was on the menu. Very disappointed.

The Belfry is one of the town's signature places to drop in for a snack or proper lunch and breakfast. Had a great Full English Breakfast there just a day ago & it was both delicious and with great proportions - all in a friendly, charming atmosphere.

Very nice vibe in this cafe and service was good. However the veggie breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. Priced at £6.95, what was served was stingy. The plate consisted of one tomato halved, one small mushroom halved and seemingly microwaved to the point of shrivelling, one tiny fried egg, tattie scone and a small pot of beans (probably wouldn’t fill a desert spoon). Toast on the side. It isn’t necessary to put a veggie sausage or bacon substitute on a veggie breakfast as not all vegetarians like this but at least serve two eggs, a decent portion of mushrooms and beans and perhaps a hash brown. I work in the industry and go out of my way ( as an ex veggie) to ensure my veg breakfast has value for money. The Belfry veg breakfast does not. Husband had the full breakfast which was over priced at £10.95 and nothing to write home about. Won’t be going back.

Popped in for a cuppa and a sandwich. Everything was delivered efficiently and with a smile. Tea was piping hot, ham and cheese toasty was delicious as was coronation chicken sandwich, both served with fresh bread, salad and tasty coleslaw. The dog was also very well looked after with a puppacinno. Got chatting to the lovely owners who have a great sense of humour and are working super hard to meet every customer’s needs, including those with four legs. Our needs well and truly met today. Thank you.

We had an excellent breakfast here this morning- the full veggie, with tattie scones, scrambled eggs, mushrooms beans tomatoes and toast, plus a cappuccino apiece. Set us up really well for a full day. And we got here just after 1000, soon after it opened, and just in time - the place was full within 20 minutes of us getting there. Clearly a local favourite, which probably says all you need to know, and it’s good value as well. We’d come back here like a shot :)

Service fine. We both ordered soup and a sandwich. Worst soup and sandwich we’ve ever had. Broccoli and Stilton soup was that thick you could stand the spoon in it and definitely not hot enough. Sandwich dry and tasteless and hubbys coronation chicken filler was so salty he couldn’t eat it (which is not like him to leave food!) When I went to pay I mentioned the salty indelible sandwich and all I got was “sorry that’ll be £19 please”… Over priced for what we got and not a great experience. Unfortunately we won’t be back.

Visited on the day of the Kirkcudbright Tattoo, it was busy inside so we sat outside with our wee dog. We ordered the local burger it came with salad and chips and it was absolutely delicious, piping hot served on a proper morning roll with lovely crisp fresh salad and coleslaw, it was presented well and I was impressed. Service was friendly and when there was a black cloud overhead with a spit of rain we were offered the last table inside, we persevered outside the sun came back out and it a beautiful hot day (it is Scotland after all) When we are back in the area we will definitely visit again.

Absolutely lovely wee cafe. Staff are young and friendly. Menu is simple, but check out the specials board for more complex dishes. Food was made quickly and efficiently and tasted delicious. We had a variety of dishes, a toasty, scampi, veggie burger, an omelette. All were made really well and so tasty with beautiful fresh salad accompaniments. This was a really disappointing experience. There are two main issues- the first is choice, the second is quality. In terms of choice, the menu has only a few hot items, but then a number of ‘specials’ and ‘over-65 specials’. Bizarrely, there are things on the over-65 specials which are not available for under-65s to buy. I am used to seeing special smaller portions at a lower price, but not a whole entirely separate menu only available to over-65s. In terms of quality, absolutely everything is straight out of the freezer into a deep fat fryer. I paid £9.95 for a ‘posh fish finger sandwich’. I expected the ‘posh’ to mean that these would be thick, quality fish fingers, but instead I got three of the cheapest fish fingers from the freezer aisle at Iceland. As you probably in know, these disappear to nothing once they are deep fried, meaning that my fish finger sandwich was pretty tasteless. Overall, there is nothing absolutely terrible about my experience here, but you’re paying prices you’d expect in a natty cafe and eating really unimpressive food.

Had visited on a few occasions when in Kirkcudbright and was glad to see it was open again after all the covid restrictions. There was a hand gel dispenser at the door and a small sign on the floor to stay 2m apart, but I'm afraid that's where the good practice ended. Tables and chairs in usual layout meaning no distancing, staff with no masks or gloves(including kitchen), no spray screen at till and no visible effort to ensure tables between customers. This on the day when the city of Aberdeen is put back on lockdown. They say that if things feels normal, they aren't. This was like life before covid 19. Even with a sign on the wall to wear a mask, none of the staff did. Very worrying.

We come to Kirkcudbright each year at the end of October. we have always visited the Belfry Cafe at least twice in that week. Previously I gave this cafe a 5star review. What a disappointment this week when we arrived to find a dirty greasy spoon of an establishment. One of the tables was totally covered piled mountain high with dirty crockery and it certainly looked as though it had been there some time that morning. Numerous tables had plates with half eaten very greasy remains of food. The air stank heavily of grease. Other tables had customers with half full plates of food awaiting their half finished plates to be taken away. There were some nice trays of fresh looking home made scones, but most other things looked very unappealing. we did sit at a table, but no waitress came and staff seemed preoccupied in the open plan kitchen (certainly no one was attending to customers or sorting the mountain of dirty dishes). We decided not to stay and felt so disappointed in our visit. The place just felt so run down and dowdy from the café we previously enjoyed visiting. I wouldn't eat or have a drink here and consequently can no longer recommend this place. So sad!

We had wandered round the town and just needed a quick coffee break. This cafe is situated on a junction but with large picture windows it is quite pleasant with a nice view out over the town.

We ate here and finished our meal, the waitress cleared away and we decided we'd have another round of drinks before leaving. We waited 5, 10 minutes and the waitress never came back. I went in search of someone but couldn't find our waitress. I didn't like to open the doors to the kitchen. We waited another 5 minutes and my wife said 'this is ridiculous' and went off in pursuit. She found our waitress in the bar (was she watching TV, did she fancy the barman?) and asked if we could get some service. The waitress said 'the restaurant is closed', as if we were being unreasonable in expecting to be served a round of drinks. No, the restaurant isn't closed if you've still got people sitting at a table you're serving and you haven't asked them if they want a dessert or offered them the bill but simply buggered off. So we said OK, can we just pay the bill. Which we did, and obviously didn't leave tip. We won't be going back.

A super bed and breakfast with a lovely vegan curry and home baked ecclefechan tart in the bar which had an open fire. Steve and Mary looked after us like a mum and a big brother. Could not do enough for us including a very welcome lift to and from hoddom Bridge as we were walking the annandale way. And a packed lunch to order. Will recommend to all, especially walkers.

We stayed here for 2 nights while visiting Kirkcudbright. Although there was space in the car park, we left the car parked on the road, as it was fairly quiet. Check in was quick and efficient. The receptionist was welcoming and showed us to our room. This was a garden room. Lovely and comfortable room, proper radiators rather than heaters which was welcome. The food, not particularly expensive for these days, was high quality, great portion sizes and absolutely delicious! Probably the best fish & chips we’ve ever had and definitely the best onion rings. We were pretty to central to Kirkcudbright so could walk rather than get in the car. The Stewartry Museum is well worth a visit as is Kirkcudbright. Very pretty coloured houses.
