Lounge at The Hetland Hall in Dumfries & Galloway

Had intended having coffee at a nearby garden centre with a group of friends before we all went our separate ways having been together for Hogmanay. But the garden centre was closed so we thought we would try the nearby hotel. Phoned to check they could accommodate us and were told "yes". It turned out to be a very enjoyable visit as we were made to feel welcome despite only having coffees. A lovely end to our New Year celebrations. Thanks to all the staff at Hetland Hall!

Back again for a fantastic 'Festive Fare' lunch. We have a large family gathering lunch there every year and this was the best to date. The food along with the service that we recieved was first class, the young girls that looked after us certainly worked hard for their money. Our thanks go out to the management and all of the staff for looking after us.

had a meal with family from Ireland.had a very nice private room for all the family as there was about 15 of us.really enjoyed the meal friendly and helpful staff very nice and comfortable surroundings

Excellent food. Only had the chicken tempura burger but thoroughly enjoyed it. Friendly and attentive staff. Would recommend.

It must be twenty-five years since I last visited Hetland Hall Hotel. The lunch I had then reminded me of the hotel fare we had to suffer in my youth, during post war austerity - one slice of cold meat; two scoops of mashed potato with some over boiled vegetable followed by tinned fruit and custard. Needless to say, I never returned and would advise people against the place, until we were given a Christmas voucher for afternoon tea there. We used this yesterday and it was excellent - a generous helping of well filled sandwiches followed by fresh scones, jam and clotted cream and finished with a selection of dainty cakes, too numerous to finish. This was washed down with a well selected tea and a glass of prosecco. All was delightful and none of the baking was bought in but prepared in house. I suspect there have been several changes in ownership at Hetland Hall during the last quarter of a century since my last visit however, bad fare may offer short term profit but has long term consequences. I am happy to say that this recent pleasurable experience has completely altered my opinion of the place.

I wanted somewhere a bit sophisticated and buzzy to take my very special Daughter in Law for a birthday meal. Hetland Hall was recommended by friends who said it was refurbed and now great. I remembered it from some years ago when it had been a bit tired and sad. But, wow, what a change. The restaurant was lovely, and the food and staff couldn't have been better. I found out that Hetland is part of a small group of four such hotels, since this visit my husband and I have now visited another in the group which is just of the M74 and was equally pleased. The food is stylish and very good value. Well done. so much nicer than the big chain hotels/restaurants.

Visited here today at short notice for lunch. Have been before and enjoyed excellent lunch freshly prepared. Staff very attentive friendly and efficient. Hotel refurbished to very high standard and lovely log fire burning in front area.

This place has lovely gardens and a nice outdoor space. The room we had was newly kitted out and was good value for money. We did notice that some parts of the hotel weren’t really finished, like the roof on the extension. It just looked a bit messy in places. We had unpainted wooden panels in the room. Bathroom was a good size and nice shower although there was clearly some snagging issues and our bathroom had a very drainy smell. We reported this to reception. We did order some food off the evening menu which was pub style. There was lots of oven cooked bread on plates. Not very imaginative. My partner had a fish pasta dish which looked like something you would have put together at home. I did notice weddings were being sold. I wouldn’t want that standard of food for my function. Having said all that the following morning breakfast was an improvement but really nothing complicated. My partner had a vegetarian option but was really disappointed with the portion size. On the upside staff were very friendly. One point of note where was the haggis in my Scottish breakfast.

Lovely staff providing a great service, excellent food in every way, nice atmosphere in extremely pleasant surroundings and good value.

We had lunch today and could not fault anything. Staff were friendly and attentive. Menu options were good and food quality was excellent. The lounge area is nice and relaxed with outdoor seating if you are lucky to visit on a sunny day.

Nice lunch on Sunday, shame about the size and quality of one of the desserts! Minature by nature, not by price! One strawberry, one raspberry and 3 blueberries in miniature tarts! Should really have sent it back, waitress and manager said thank you for the comment but no reduction in price! Certainly wouldn't return for the desert menu but the rest of the food was good.

Hetland Hall has a very nice outdoor area to have your drinks outside as well as a comfortable inside bar lounge area if the weather is not up to sitting outside where there are fountains and a pleasant outlook over the lawn area, we enjoyed our leisure time in both the outside and inside lounges and had a good choice of beverages on over and bar meals if desired, will return again and make good use of these pleasant areas in and around the hotel.

My 89 year old Dad goes here almost weekly to eat. The staff, particularly Bryce and Andy are very attentive to him. He loves the lunches and invited me along yesterday. Great choice of food, warm welcome, Dad ordered Soup as a starter which was Tomato and was accompanied by a hot crusty roll. My lunch was Braised Beef with New Potatoes, Carrots and Parsnip. It was served with a Horseradish Gravy which was delicious. The Beef was so soft and it was cooked to perfection. Dad had Cumberland Sausage and Steak Pie. It was enormous, huge pastry and loads of meat. accompanied by chips and Veg. The staff were very attentive and sociable without being intrusive. Great service! Reasonably priced. To finish, my Dad managed to eat an Ice Cream (don't know how he managed it). The views from the Hotel are amazing, it's a beautiful setting and the Hotel has been refurbished to a high standard. Will be back!

My son and daughter took me here for an early Mothers Day treat. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and beautifully lit. The staff are cheery and helpful. We opted for the afternoon tea choice ordering for 4 people instead of 3 as it's the most cost effective ( don't ask). Nice selection of finger sandwiches, scones with jam and clotted cream and a variety of bite sized cakes served with tea or coffee. Pity about the weather because outside is gorgeous and the view stunning. Good luck to the new management as they've spent a fortune on this place.

Good bar and good food at reasonable prices. A good selection of drinks, and a roaring log fire. Well worth a visit!

got this visit as a gift and didnt know what to exspect . quite a good choice on the menu and portion size was good . had full english breakfast was served well by young staff.

We had booked in November and decided to dine at 2pm on Xmas Day. That was a very good call as the restaurant was not too busy and there were plenty of waiting staff available. We were greeted enthusiastically and our drinks order taken straight away. We had a four course meal with an extensive menu and everything about it was marvellous.

Lovely treat for my friends birthday tomorrow in a lovely friendly atmosphere. Andy the waiter looked after us so well. Thank you to all the staff it’s a lovely Hotel with lovely views can’t wait to come back.

Beautiful scenery and surroundings, the only sounds are the birds and the tinkling of water from the fountains on the terrace , all that and perfect company what more could you ask or wish for.

Exceptional inside and out and the upmost of comfort. Excellent food and service always. 5 stars definitely!!!

Lots of choices and a restruant that caters for vegans. Food was delicious. House wine a little pricey at £15:00 per bottle, however bar prices okay.

The menu on offer was exciting and enjoyable. Even the house wine was delicious. The price was certainly value for money. The staff were super friendly too! A very lovely experience.

We visited for the first time in some years in November 2017 for a drink and decided that we would return and try out the food offering. This we did in January 2018. We were the only customers having lunch at midday and there were two other couples planning weddings. On the day the Hotel didn't seem to be so well prepared to accept diners, but we received our lunch in a reasonable time and we both enjoyed the offering. My Wife had the Beef Diane off of the main menu, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She being a small eater managed most of the dish and of course I had to "taste" it too? I took the two course menu and had the butterfly chicken breast and the profiteroles, which I enjoyed.

Fuimos a probar este lugar ideal para una comida a la hora del almuerzo. Pensamos que llamamos en reserva, nunca se sabe. Así no nos molestó, y para ser sincero no necesita ya que estaba muerto. Sólo 5 personas fueron a almorzar. Me pregunto por qué?, mmmmmm Tenía que estar y esperar a estar sentados, eran el personal? De todos modos una vez sentado nos preguntó qué era la sopa de la chica semana contestó "no sé le pido" bien. El primer plato era bien nada especial en mi opinión. Así que el filete de hamburguesa para platos principales y debería ido a McDonalds, me sirve una hamburguesa al estilo americano con una hamburguesa de queso rallado finamente con sus baratos grasa corriendo y demasiado ya que no había derretido y hacía frío en el medio, ah sí, una poción pequeño de patatas fritas. Eso fue todo. No hay ensalada, saborear nada. Realmente seco. Ahora bien, para el postre. Visto que hecho una tarta de queso, genial. diario Nos preguntó qué tipo era hoy y me dijeron que "no sé, yo le pregunte "bien y sin problemas. Me dijeron que ninguno a la izquierda. Mmmmmm otras 5 que estaban antes de nosotros debe de comer. La esposa tenía una tarta banoffie compramos este era un merengue con una pila de líquidos comprados toffees de caramelo por encima. Parecía asquerosa. Así que el personal era muy servicial y la comida, en mi opinión, no es lo que cabe esperar de un lugar tan grandioso. Ver hay un montón de obras, mejoras, etc. Así que espero que puedan conseguir la cocina así clasificados. . . . . Ahora sé por qué el comedor estaba vacío.

Stopped of on our journey from Dumfries home , hotel looks ok from outside but has some work being undertaken, the entrance currently is a bit dreary and dark, we were seated in the bar and the man that served us was pleasant and helpful, bar area was very tired but clean, toilets were not the best but I am sure they will address this as part of the refurbishments.

Stayed with my boyfriend for one night with a two course dinner and breakfast. Beautiful hotel , nice atmosphere and fantastic food. Will Definitely go back ! Stayed in room 24.

Un grupo de 20 amigos reservado almuerzo el lunes. El comedor era agradable, pero el servicio y la comida bastante menos. Mi plato estaba caliente, así que mi mujer insistió en que deben comer enseguida. Ella llegó 15 minutos después de terminado el mío. Un miembro de nuestro grupo no tienen un arranque; le habían allí por 90 minutos cuando su plato. ¡Increíble! Algunas personas regresar comida porque era demasiado difícil de masticar y este se realizó sin argumento.

Comfortable restaurant offering a good selection of foods and with good service. Busy here owing to the good value, so booking is recommended.

Sólo un miembro del personal de servicio cuando llegamos, entre el registro en la recepción de personas corriendo al bar para probar y servir a sus clientes. No es lo ideal!

I ordered the smoked salmon as in Scotland - when it came it was cheap scraps of supermarket salmon, I had to ask for the bread to go with it. My husbands bruscetta was so hard that as he tried to cut it it flew across the table. His steak (rare at a £9 supplement) was tiny, tough and well done served with oven chips overcooked onion rings and mushrooms. My main of chicken and pancetta croquette, mash and seasonal veg (hard carrots and broccolli - hardly seasonal) with a creamy spring onion sauce was dry and when I asked for a little more sauce I was told no I couldn't have any. I then couldn't eat any more. We didn't bother with desserts and didn't eat there for the rest of our stay. The waiting staff were chaotic and did not have any waiting experience. The lady on the next table ordered chicken and was bought beef noodles, she had waited so long she just ate it.

The food was of a high standard. The chicken liver pate especially tasty. The staff were young but attentive and will be credit to the hotel in the future

Local style, nicely presented, served by friendly staff. Haggis, neeps and tatties starter is delicious!

Came here after buying a voucher on Groupon for afternoon tea, booked in for the Friday afternoon and when we arrived we kind of got the impression they had forgot we were coming, however, staff were still very accommodating. The afternoon tea was lovely and a large selection, we were asked what sandwiches we wanted and what bread and also got the choice between tea and coffee. Luckily it wasn't busy when we arrived and got the pick of the lounge area so chose a sofa next to the big fire which was on and made it a very homely atmosphere.

We visited for a special occasion and had a three course meal which was of a really good standard. We enjoyed some delicious cocktails afterwards. We will definately return here

Well worth a stay. A beautiful building in peaceful surrounds Hetland Hall is an ideal destination for a weekend break or short stay.

The chef is very talented , well presented food,perfectly cooked .The restaurant is clean and airy ,staff are brilliant!

Excellent, freshly cooked food. Relaxing atmosphere. Spacious and friendly. A nice variety without being pretentious.

We had meals on the two nights we stayed at the hotel and the meals we had were of good quality and very enjoyable. There was a good selection of meals on both nights and we found the restaurant staff to be attentative and friendly.

The bar staff are very overworked leading to in-efficiency. I do not like poor serviceWhen they were there they were helpful.

This is a restaurant with all the works - table settings, napkins, attentive service and excellent food - worth every penny. The ingredients are of the best and so it the presentation.

Stayed at Hetland Hall Hotel on a one night special deal and overall really enjoyed. Dinner that evening was excellent and the staff there goes the extra mile to help you. We will go back again. Staff made up for any failing of the hotel.

While staying in the Hotel we used the restaurant for eating really good selection of food at a very reasonable cost. Would have no hesitation by both staying and eating in the Hotel. All staff so helpful with any questions we may have had.

Ate here as part of the hotel offer. Limited choice on this offer of 2 courses but very tasty and well cooked. Lounge not particularly attractive but comfortable and staff very helpful.

Enjoyed a great 3 course meal. Not the best in the world but fresh, well cooked and very tasty. Mini Gammon Joint was superb.

food was not very nice, eat in the restaurant much nicer. find it hard to believe the same chef could have produced what we ate in the lounge in comparison with the meal we ate in the restaurant.

On the outskirts of Dumfries yet so easily accessed. Good spacious rooms for meetings. Friendly welcome and service. Very enjoyable meals.

Went with a coach party trip to Edinburgh Tattoo, and stayed here, but there weren't even enough seats for half the party to sit in the lounge! Ended up taking in our dining chairs. Ordered floater coffee with brandy for a treat - £4.95. It took 40 mins to make (using whipped cream) and was cold by the time I received it!

service was great nothing was to much trouble, chef cooked everything to perfection or if you had a particular way you liked your steaks it was no bother excellent prices

loved everything! Good choice of menu for starters, mains and sweets, very obliging staff, bar well stocked to suit everyone. Special deal entitled us to free wine but would have willingly paid for it it was so nice.

Overall fantastic, no negatives food and cost brilliant. Would dine here anytime. We had Hotel menu but another menu was available and both had something for everyone. Staff were lovely nothing to much trouble.

Went with parents and my partner while travling home. The food was lovely and there is a good choice. The staff were friendly and welcoming.The young girl on reception was very helpful and even served us at the bar while the other staff were tending to other guests.Highly recomended

The food made us both ill very poor and basic cancelled breakfast the next day because we got dodgy tummies.

The lounge food was terrible they could not even get the order right, the deep fired brie was plastic, the chicken was dry and the chocolate mouse was so synthetic it was unpleasant. One of our party only got their starter after half of the people had finished and had their plates cleared and we only a party of 10. The positive is the staff they are friendly but the price, menu and quality are just not up to scratch.

With soft seating, a roaring log fire this was the perfect place to cuddle up with a good book and a drink

food was excellent well priced it was served quickley was hot and well seasoned the service was efficient all starters arrived at the same time there was 12 people in our party noone had to wait for a starter the main course followed we all had a good meal no one complained about the quality or service

got married and had our reception there with 95 guests and it was so warm and comfortable and we were all made welcome with a smile every one felt relaxed

We booked a family meal at Hetland Hall to celebrate my brother's 40th birthday. Staff helped me design a menu which took account of several dietary requirements. On arrival we were shown to the dining room. The table was beautifully set and the menus had been personalised with a message for my brother. The meal was lovely and the staff were extremely attentive - they couldn't have done enough for us. My brother was presented with a complimentary bottle of champagne from the owners as a thankyou for our booking. In all, we had a lovely evening. We would definitely use this restaurant again.
