Major disappointment. My boyfriend and I were very excited to experience this hotel and restaurant. The room ended up being a bit cramped, but was clean and nicely furnished. A few staff were very courteous (kind and accommodating for minor requests), but the host and his senior staff were notably cold and bordered on disdainful. We were most extremely disappointed by our engagement dinner. My fiance proposed the day before, and we couldn't wait to enjoy a dinner at this highly-reputed restaurant. It was barely half-full the entire time we were there, but they refused to seat us at one of the many empty tables (which remained empty the entire time) by the windows. We accepted this, determined to make the best out of the evening and still enjoy the lovely restaurant and each other's company. The service was terrible. It wasn't long before our appetizer plates were empty, our cocktails were long empty, and even our water glasses had run dry. We flagged someone down, which seemed to irritate the senior staff even further. What nerve we had, asking for beverages whilst seated in the middle of a half-empty fine dining restaurant. Our appetizers were delicious, but the main dishes were not anywhere close to worth the price. The vegetables that came with my entree tasted like barely-seasoned steamed fare I easily prepare myself at home. By the time dinner was over, we felt like pariahs, despite the fact that we hadn't once made a scene or become disrespectful in our interactions with staff. Perhaps they were having an "off" night trying to train new employees, but the fact that we told them this was an engagement celebration and yet continued to be treated like an annoyance left us both feeling extremely disappointed. Thank goodness we found a humble restaurant at our next destination to make up for the botched celebration.

Great food as always! The gastro menu was great and we were delighted it was extended beyond the festive season.

Great area to relax on arrival and have a glass while you select your meals ,mid week so not expecting a full dinner but we were 7.30 and no more came in illonly comment on my meal starter a Indian potato tiki bland at best and I managed a third! Duck main dry overcooked supposed to have honey glaze ? Served with over powering red cabbage larger than the duck on plate and separate veg all undercooked .

The freshly baked goods here are very delicious and quite well made. The coffees were a delight. The service was friendly and I enjoyed my time here.

I went there with my sister and a friend to try they cafe upstairs and the food was amazing, you could tell it was all homemade and the man that served us was so friendly and nice, keeping an eye out in case we needed anything else. The nice lady in the main shop also asked how our experience was when we left too, which I was really nice. We’ll definitely be repeat customers.

Simon es la persona que nos sirvió cada día esta semana. Sentido del humor muy seco y no un hombre para ser apresurado! El café y los tés son buenos. Pequeña selección de comidas - un fabuloso pastel de coco y chocolate y pasteles calientes. Solo 4 - 5 mesas pequeñas disponibles (y para llevar). Solo parece estar abierto alrededor de las 9 am o 9 . 30 am, no a las 8 am como se anuncia. Buena música de escucha fácil a la antigua.

Lovely, homey feeling right next to the water. We were introduced to the pub/restaurant by our friends who are locals and greatly enjoyed our time here. Lots of great options for vegetarians like my wife and friends, as well as great options for carnivores like myself. The Old man of Hoy burger was lovely, if a little tall for my mouth. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Do yourself a favor if you're in Kirkwall and give it a try!

Really great food and service. Gluten free options well thought out. Great way to try foods presented in smaller sharing plates.

Convenient and central but too expensive for this type of rooms and establishment.

Absolutely enjoyed the Chicken Tikka Passanda – tender chicken in a rich, aromatic sauce.
