By far the best choice for dinner in Kirkwall. The lamb curry was one of a kind. Service staff super friendly and great selection of beers and surprising cocktail variety. Make sure to stop by!

Trendy place, some good ideas for creative food, mostly well implemented. Concept is small portions to share as well. If you're really hungry, your dinner might become a bit pricey... Very interesting wine selection, tried the red house wine (South Africa) and a Montepulciano, both very nice.

The cabbage, bean dip and salad sides were fantastic, as were the mushroom tacos and sea bass. Well seasoned, very friendly barkeep and the strawberry sour beer on tap was fantastic. We were there around closing an never felt rushed. Highly recommend for some fresh, creative food.

The chef in this establishment clearly has passion for food. Very rare to get vegan food cooked as well as non vegan options. Shared with a combo of vegan & meat eaters and we all cant stop raving about this place. The very top tier of food at a price that’ll leave you thinking you robbed them. Cocktail menu was also amazing!

The small plates food here good. For example enormous but very well cooked scallops. There is also an excellent range of local beers on tap. However the big drawback as a place to have dinner is that you sit in large orange alcoves running along the wall with a view of the bar. The room overall is eclecticly and, to our minds, badly decorated. We found that this meant we did not want to linger despite enjoying the food.

The sea food platter was incredibly tasty and very generously portioned.

A super casual evening here. Cocktails were tasty and a good precursor to some excellent food. We had four small plates and some fries between two of us, and it was just right. The food was imaginative and delicious. Service was spot o. Altogether a very good experience . To be recommended.

We enjoyed our meal at Twenty One. Staff are friendly and food came out quickly. Fava bean dip was tasty, as was the sea bass, mushroom tacos, and Basque cheesecake. Small but well formed dinner menu with options for vegetarians.

Don't be put off by the café look of the place; it serves excellent food. We visited for dinner and shared 4 plates between us - linguine with prawns, beef carpaccio, scallops and fish cakes with a side of fries. The size of the plates are designed for you to have more than one, and sharing is great as you can try a number of dishes. The bottle of white wine was cheap and very pleasant and we finished with cranachan and cheesecake and the whole bill came to under £100. A brilliant evening.

Wow! Tasty, hot, fresh. They managed to squeeze this tired traveller in and they met expectation and then some. Staff were friendly and then some. I would recommend TwentyOne to anyone visiting Kirkwall.

Fab family lunch stop. Fish platter had a tasty selection of mackerel, salmon, prawn and crab. Satay chicken Po Boy sandwich was delicious. Their house wine recommendation was excellent and cocktails were good too. Friendly staff and accommodating for kids too. Would like to return for dinner.

This was somewhat, a unique restaurant for us to visit, having not heard of a small plate dining experience prior. But we are sooo glad we ate here. The food was superb, the staff were extremely obliging and the decor was on point. Do put this on your must places to eat at, when you visit Orkney, you won't regret it.

I visited her recently on a tour of the North and had lunch. It was a Vegan sweet potato wrap with vegan aioli. It was absolutely delicious, one of the tastiest meals I have eaten in a long time. The food was piping hot, which I liked. I also had a chocolate dessert and it was excellent. The waitress was pleasant. The place was busy and had a pleasant, ambient vibe. I enjoyed the experience and would return.

We were in Scotland for three weeks and this was the only bad meal we had. Terrible service, very high prices, and bad food.

This little restaurant was a real treat and a surprise after all the fish and chips we have eaten lately. The food was well prepared and presented with an emphasis on local and fresh. The service was efficient and friendly. Would recommend, 100%!

Wow! Just wow! Can I give this place 10 stars? Healthy, delicious, beautiful food. Nice portions. This is one of the few placed in Kirkwall to get a really nice meal. You will not regret going here. Skip the pub food and get real food here! Service was excellent.

Popped in here on the off chance and were not disappointed. Excellent service and really tasty food. Plates were quite small, but not expensive so if you were really hungry, you could order two.

Stopped by for late lunch so it wasn’t too busy. Service was friendly and efficient. The food was tasty including the soup, watermelon salad and cheese toastie. Loved the selection of 12 beers on tap!

Reasonably good eatery with a good menu. Efficient service, located in a convenient part of the town. Watermelon salad was really good.

Wonderful vibe and an interestingly creative menu. Takes standard dishes, adds creativity and comes up with a unique twist. Food and drink at a very competitive price. Twists on regular cocktails too. Staff look like they’re enjoying their work and offer friendly, helpful and efficient service. The decor and ambience are quite different to everything else on this high street. We ended up visiting quite a few times during our week in Kirkwall because nothing else could compare.

Very nice coffee on a bitter cold day

We have eaten here a few times and each time it has been a very good experience both food and servicewise. There is a very good selection of beers, cocktails and soft drinks. We love the small plates idea here and usually have two mains peedie plates, roughly a tenner each with a side or two and some fries, great to share and sample different dishes. Also this time we managed a pudding and both the Apple pie and the Banoffee Bread & butter pudding were excellent. The peedie plates change frequently so you will always find something different. Loved the Pork ribs, Mexican chicken leg, and the beef and prawn dishes that we ordered. Like the vibe here and the staff are a huge part of this, they seem to have the same staff on most of the the and this is always a good sigh if they can keep the staff nowadays. So if you are looking for a good feed and a great night out in Kirkwall, don't miss Twenty One

We visited twice, once for Wing It Wednesday and once for Burger Thursday. Both were really enjoyable experiences. Twenty One offers good food at sensible prices, and has an excellent selection of drinks, including cocktails. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the restaurant has a nice ambience. It's a shame there is nothing comparable in Stromness.

Popped in for beer good local selection

Went for lunch over the festive period and had the Yorkshire pudding Christmas dinner wrap which was excellent. Great food great service and very reasonably priced.

We were able to walk in and sit at a high top table without a reservation. All the regular tables were already booked for the two lunches we ate here on our visit to Kirkwall. The service was very quick and friendly. We hoped to have the brisket sandwich but it was “wing it Wednesday “ so we opted to eat here anyway. Our Korean wings were really delicious and the meal deal included a couple of sides. We went back the next day and ate our brisket sandwich and a chicken blt, both of which did not disappoint.

Very nice Cocktail-Bar with small sized portions to eat. The cocktails and drinks were amazing (try the Old Fashioned with Highland Park Whisky). The menu on Google is not accurate, per example the Buffalo Wings are only served on wednesday (Lunch). Appart from that, the food was very good! (order about 3-4 dishes per person for a dinner).

Lovely modern bar and restaurant. Visited twice - once during the day for coffee and again one evening for dinner. We tried a few dishes from their tasting menu which changes with seasons. Every dish was great, and some amazing cocktails too!

Can’t rate the food more highly. Well cooked and ingredients that work really well together. The service was friendly & efficient. Laid back vibe. A must if you are in Kirkwall.

A relatively short menu. But full of unusual and intriguing options! I opted for "monkfish in a bloody mary sauce", but then chose to flesh it out with "crusty loaf with coriander. Pleased I did so as the monkfish might be described as "cuisine minceur". It was however very tasty! I followed up with "passionfruit and vanilla millefeuille". again a very tasty dish! All washed down with mango juice! Service good and smooth. I was looking for something a little out of the ordinary, and I certainly got it. I commend this restaurant.

We came here twice during our trip to Orkney! Bearing in mind it was show week, so quite busy . First visit we came for cocktails, the barmaid was amazing! She was so helpful, polite so good at her job! She recommended cocktails to us, I got the Strawberry Mojito, was 10/10. My friend got the Bueno cocktail, she thought it was amazing too! We enjoyed our afternoon there that much, we decided to book in for food on county show night! We had a table of 3, all had main and sides. Was amazing, quite small portions but filled you up! Presented very nicely, food tasted great!! Twenty One is very modern, tidy, clean! Great place to come for an evening meal or even cocktails through the day! We will definitely be back!

I came to twenty one many times during my stay in Orkney - really nice relaxed spot, the staff are super friendly and the coffee is always delicious (best in Orkney in my opinion). Very contemporary for Orkney which is nice to have the option of! Great place to go for substantial, creative and tasty vegan options too. Twenty One is a great place to eat out. The atmosphere is great, very friendly and relaxed. The food is delicious and very reasonable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Have had both lunch and dinner here, both time’s everything fantastic.

This was a nice quiet restaurant with a limited yet adequate menu. One of our group needs gluten free, and there were good choices available for her as well as a well marked menu for people with other food restrictions. Service was good, portions were on the small side.

We had lunch here which was great! I tried the Korean fried chicken that was amazing. The wife had the crab salad which was also good. They have lots of beer on tap and the staff were really helpful with selection. Also a good stop for an espresso if you fancy one. Definitely try this place.

came across this restaurant by accident . my partner is vegetarian and we choose all the Indian type vegetarian tapas. it was devious, good sized portion and beat the national Indian tapas chain by a mile . Good value for money, fantastic range of cocktails and lovely staff .

This was my favorite place that we visited in Orkney. The cocktails and tapas plates were all unique and very tasty. The biscoff cheesecake was absolutely amazing.

The food here is very much in a Tapas type style. Menu evolves each month with some dropping off and new ones added in. A mixture of cuisine from Salmon (very tasty) to a braised short rib (falls of the bone). Extensive drink and cocktail menu to work through. I felt 21 filled a nice contemporary niche in the Kirkwall eat scene. If you are looking for meat and two veg then this may not be for you but if you want some clever flavour combinations then we’ll worth a try. Coffee and desserts also went down well. Staff were friendly but busy. Would definitely return

A great burger night at twenty one. Half way through my burger I was a little worried that it was slightly undercooked. I double checked with the waitress who was very nice and offered to recook my burger. A few minutes later I received a whole new burger and chips which was delicious and they were very helpful. Great service and I’ll definitely return.

Great food. Great cocktails. What's not to like?

Myself and the ladies, Kymberlie, Qeera, Akita came in here for a spot of lunch as the menu looked quite enticing. That is where the positives started and ended. A frosty welcome contrasted by the heating blasting us with the heat of a thousand suns. We all opted for the sandwiches, apart from Kymberlie but that’s because she’s an attention seeker. They arrived promptly but were all very poor, the chicken one still had bones in it. A special mention must go out to the “salad” that accompanied the sandwiches, by which I mean a handful of wilted spinach and a mere dusting of balsamic glaze. The coffee however was a redeeming point, however we’d recommend sun beam down the street as the gent in there was very lovely and incredibly welcoming of our urban group. Went for the wings night with the household. The wings (both the chicken and the cauliflower) were delicious but the sauces on the wings themselves were a bit 'meh'. The sides were delicious too, as were the extensive range of cocktails. The staff were friendly and helpful and the overall price of the night was excellent value for money. For me it was a bit noisy in there (but I am a grumpy old man :D )

We were disappointed at 8.40pm to be told we couldn't have a latte because the coffee machine had been switched off. Website said it was open till 11pm. When I asked when they closed I was told when everyone left. We were the only people...

This is absolutely a place we want to revisit. Good, out of the box, meals that yoi can combine yourself. And really helpfull and friendly staff. We will be back.

Stopped by for a light lunch on arriving in Kirkwall. Crab chowder was delicious served with local black bread. Could have been a bit hotter, but we were starving so didn't complain. Staff friendly and helpful. Prices on the higher side but quality of dish was good.

Go with 2 or more friends to really experience a fuller menu offer in this tasting menu restaurant. 2 of us went and enjoyed 4 dishes with a couple of sides. Staff also very pleasant and keen to assist. Really good range of local beers to suit all tastes. Recommended. Book in advance.
