Harbour Fry in Orkney Islands

Really great food and service. Gluten free options well thought out. Great way to try foods presented in smaller sharing plates.

Food was good visited a few times whilst on holiday.

Was into the Harbour Fry in Kirkwall and as I was going in a troop of Americans had just come off cruise ship and the chip shop was full with customers which is great sign. The team are amazing and provide great service and are very friendly. The chips are real and made on the day and the batter is nice and light. I would highly recommend going in for the fish and chips.

I ate here three months ago and I am STILL thinking about those garlic and chilli chips. I wish I knew how to make them myself. The staff were lovely too.

Vraiment un triste endroit. L’ambiance est lugubre, le personnel déprimé et déprimant. Les clients mangent le nez dans l’assiette en ayant l’air pressés de ressortir. J’aimerais parler de la cuisine mais peut-on parler de cuisine, quand il s’agit de jeter des trucs dans une friteuse ?

I caught them ( pun intended) just before closing, and wow, the portion was massive. Lovely tasty fish. I definitely recommend and would use again, but I live 600 miles away.

Was here once last year, back then "take away" from Happy Haddock. Now I wanted to try the Harbor Fry. I shared a portion of fish & chips with my wife in the restaurant and we were also completely satisfied. We found both restaurants to be very good value for money.

Un chippy limpio y brillante. Podría tener una pequeña porción de pescado con papas fritas, lo que era justo para mí. Pescado, rebozado y patatas fritas eran todos de muy buena calidad, y justo como deberían ser. El personal joven era alegre, educado y eficiente.

Servicio amable, excelente pescado con papas fritas, ambiente limpio y fresco. En general, este es un gran lugar para un almuerzo sabroso.

Friendly staff. Best chippy on Orkney. Descent chips, generous fish portions, crispy batter and no soggy bits. Sampling the Orkney Patties should be compulsory for all visitors to the island.

Often very well attended if you arrived there by ship. Portions are decent and tasty. The price was absolutely okay.

Se hizo evidente que uno necesita reservas para la cena en la mayoría de los restaurantes de Kirkwall. La pizzería Lucano en la que paramos tenía un letrero mal etiquetado en la puerta que invitaba a entrar, pero al entrar nos dijeron bruscamente sin reserva no había asientos. Más o menos como ‘Vete’. Uno se pregunta por qué la señal. Oh, bueno. Fuimos por la calle a Harbour Fry donde mi esposa y yo disfrutamos de una maravillosa comida de pescado con papas fritas. Hice una suposición basada en la porción de pescado tan a menudo visto en casa, pidiendo dos piezas de pescado. Creo que la camarera fue devuelta por mi petición. Me sorprendió cuando vi lo grandes que eran los trozos de pescado. El pescado parecía ser filetes de pescado blanco cubiertos de una masa que había sido frita. Le quité la cobertura de la masa al pescado y me comí la primera pieza, pero solo la mitad de la segunda. El pescado era excelente, las patatas fritas hechas de pequeños trozos de patata, simplemente justo. Si volviera, me saltaría las patatas fritas solo para disfrutar del pescado.

Mientras estábamos en las Orcadas tomamos un té picante de aquí y la comida era buena. El personal era eficiente en un viernes por la noche ocupado. Lo recomendaría.

Lovely, juicy fish. Chips are a little sharp for my liking. Very friendly polite staff, and a huge queue out the door that doesn't move especially quickly. Nice to sit in for a surcharge

Came across this chippy because we couldn’t get anywhere for a meal. Fish and chips, scampi and chips, cheese patties . The girl who served me was lovely, polite, happy and very organised. The food was so good ! We all enjoyed it so much

Very very friendly staff with the poor lost foreigners that we were 😂. Excellent fish and chips (very fatty) with their “garlic majo”. Large portions. Low prices and fast service... however, there was a queue, many customers taking takeaway and the restaurant was always full the whole time we were there. I recommend 😍.

Food excellent. Service a disgrace. Waited over 30 min to get served. Despite over 20 people in kew outside all the time and most people ordering fish. None was ever ready. Pathetic on a sat night. The staff really weren't in a rush either. Where I come from your business would have disappeared long ago.

The store was packed 10 minutes after opening. He was recommended to us by our tour guide. Traditional British fish and chips. Was greasy and good. It's better to leave out the fried sausage that we ordered with it.

Takeaway fish and chips. Fish excellent and large portions, chips a bit dry. Lots of choices on the menu, almost everything deep fried. Fair prices and pensioner specials. Good for hungry families because most restaurants and cafes in Kirkwall are high priced for meals.

A joke, we asked to eat at the premises and after waiting a long time at the table they told us that we had to take the food when they closed an hour later, without a doubt the service is regrettable. I don't recommend it to anyone

Fish and chips really good and the two guys behind the counter very friendly! Unfortunately the girl cleaning the tables wasn’t ! At 7.50 started putting the stools on the tables around us banging them down loudly and rudely telling customers it was closed even though it doesn’t close to nine !!! I’m sure closing 8.30 would have give people more than enough time to eat

It's like a week in jail waiting to get served here despite five people on and all the food prepped they are incredibly slow and potter about. When you have a team of five or six working and your que is out the door you are not doing something right. Why is nobody serving and just standing talking. No que management or at least acknowledging customers waiting. The food itself is good but would not bother again or risk half an hour waiting to get service just for some takeaway food.

I arrived on the Aida cruise ship from Hamburg, and I’ve been waiting years for some decent fish and chips. Harbour fry was recommended to me by the tour guide who lives in Kirkwall, and it didn’t disappoint. The fish and chips were delicious and excellent value for money.

Perfect fish supper, really good light crispy batter, tasty fish, great chips and really good mushy peas, not a lot can beat classic mushy peas with your chips in my book and these were excellent. Partner also has a mince pattie and loved it. Great value for money.

Brilliant proper chip shop, all cooked fresh, gluten free options and dog friendly as well. Strongly recommended.

Busy, friendly, tasty traditional fish and chips in Kirkwall. Great service, ate in, every thing well cooked, and the battered haddock was so fresh. It gets very busy, we arrived around 6.00pm on a cold Monday evening and there was plenty of seating.

Wow! No wonder people were lining up waiting for the door to open! We joined the line to have one last meal of fish & chips before we left Orkney the next morning. And Harbour Fry certainly didn’t disappoint. If you’re looking for luxury or charming decor, this isn’t the place for you. But if it’s good food at a reasonable price, this is definitely the place. My husband and I ordered the fish and chips of course and were totally impressed. It was a delicious meal. The servers were so friendly and helpful, indeed the whole team, behind the counter, worked like a well-oiled machine. They worked their way through that lineup in record time. The menu on offer was extremely varied with choices for all tastes, including curries.

Great local family owned fish fry. We had the local fish and the chicken nuggets. Made to order and the fish was amazing. We sat and talked to other people who just stopped in. Give them a try. Yes it was crowded but worth the wait. They have a few tables also. Love the conversation

Absolutely rubbish, chips were overcooked and dry, and so was the fish. Way over priced do not eat there.

Delicious hot fresh haddock & chips from Harbour Fry. Tastiest haddock I’ve had in a long time - cooked to order. My husband enjoyed the haggis slice too & the curry sauce was spicy & flavourful. A local lady I chatted to recommended the minced beef patties - I’ll have one next time. Very friendly staff & great value too. Highly recommend!

The food was fantastic! When we walked past the day before we went there was a queue of people out the door! All of them locals. You always know the best place to eat if there a queues of local people waiting to get in for food! The server was friendly and was able to ask questions and queries on my behalf. They were so helpful with my food allergies because they steamed some fish for me and have a separate gluten free fryer for people with allergies to gluten like me. As we ate in the resteraunt, the photos I've taken are after I'd already taste tested mine so it doesn't look as pretty as it did to start with. But the food was devine. My partner got the battered fish and chips with a small sized Curry sauce. The atmosphere was a little drab but it was serviceable. Well worth a visit if you're in Kirkwall at any point! Eat in or take away, you will not be disappointed!

El fish & chips está increible. No le damos las 5 estrellas porque depende de la empleada que te atienda. Hay algunas que parece que no les pagan. Si tienes la suerte de que te toca la chica rubia que te atiende con una enorme sonrisa y amabilidad, repites sin dudarlo.

Nicest Haddock I’ve ever had. Chips were perfect. Had to try the black pudding fritter and haggis fritter. Absolutely outstanding. Highly recommend!

Great little fish and chip shop. We had a big order of fish and chips for a family of 6 and an order of chicken and sweet and sour for me. We forgot the sweet and sour sauce and one of the lads from the chip shop ran halfway down the street to give us it, great service! 😁

I had one night in Kirkwall whilst I waited for my return flight and was recommended the Harbour Fry and they were not wrong. The fish and chips was simply stunning. If only I could return again tomorrow..!! Would highly recommend visiting here if you visit Kirkwall

First time try here as we had tried other fish shops and they weren't too great....happily third time lucky! Fish was great, very good portion size and the chips were good too...soft and tasty unlike other shops 😊 Finally, a chippie we are happy to return to! Take away or you can sit in to eat.

I have been going to Harbour Fry for nearly nine years. I always enjoy the friendly atmosphere and the brilliant service. Consistently good food.

EXELLENT BATTER Soft but crispy chips no annoying hard ones like the other chippie in town. fish flaky chunky and good portions mushy peas and curry sauce brilliant the bread rolls to die for and try the orkney pattie its like a corn beef hash brown you must try it mention trip advisor. good price happy staff and what more would you want ideal for shoppers and people from the cruise terminal.

There are two girls behind the counter they just stand there and chat no manners or customer service after 10 minutes of no service I walk out I would recommend that you avoid this place because they will not serve you

Brilliant Haddock and chips and mince patties

Got the crab sticks, haddock and mince pies. All good! Love the pies! The ladies behind the counter were super sweet too.

Orkney is a special place and our holiday was enhanced by excellent gluten free fish and chips from the Harbour Fry. They have a dedicated separate fryer and are very aware of the need to avoid cross contamination, very safe for those with Coeliac disease. Andy

Friendly service with a good range on the menu. Very good.size portions and a good price. There's a choice of eating in or taking out. We enjoyed ours by the harbour looking at the different boats.
