Great food, great prices and large portions. Very quick efficient service too. Can't recommend enough.

What a surprise - Chinese owned fish and chip shop!!! Absolutely brilliant service! The owner was really friendly and had a great sense of humour. The fish and chips were excellent - nice and fresh and not greasy. We ate everything!!! We were visiting from Bannockburn and we wish we had a place like down here!! 👍👍

Huge portions and crunchy fried goodness fresh out of the fryer. It’s not flashy and I didn’t have any other food there, but highly recommend the fish!

I know fish & chips from Britain to New Zealand and these are up there with the best. Excellent batter & chips, fish cooked to perfection - and to cap it all, fried in beef dripping. Great range of haggis, black, white, and red pudding, sausage, patties, and even polony. Pleasant host, and seating while you wait for your cooked-to-order gourmet delight. Don't miss it, and don't listen to naysayers. Oh, and yes, great portions.

The Happy Haddock serves the crispest batter and the freshest fish I have ever tasted! We stopped by for supper on our way off the ferry many years ago, and now make a point of stopping here for fish-and-chips every time we visit Orkney.

One of the best fish & chips I know, if I'm precise, number no. 2 in terms of taste and freshness on my personal list, place no. 1 price performance, £9.50 for fish & chips with sooooooooo much fish that you don't need the chips anymore. Operator very friendly, his wife seems a bit grumpy, but that can be forgiven given the freshness and quality. The only reason to complain is that my fish actually came straight from the fryer and was accordingly dripping with fat.

Roll up roll up if you want the worst chippy experience in Orkney. Terrible attitude and service from the owner and his quality staff along with overpriced low quality food. Straight in the bin!

A little far from the center but easy to access. It may have changed owners compared to other previous comments (we don't know). The quantity is large, but both the fish and the potatoes are somewhat oily. Most of the clientele was takeout or passing through.

Just not that good. Very strange tasting curry sauce. Chips also not very nice. Sorry.

Really average food, chips were awful, it looks value for money as they give you so many but only about 40% are actually edible, and I don't know who the youngster is behind the counter but the manners are absolutely non existent!!

Fish and chips was the best I’ve tried in quite a while and even better than Anstruther in the kingdom of Fife a couple of weeks ago. Haddock was so fresh and tasty and the chips were crispy and piping hot. A very generous portion represented really good value for money. Some previous reviews are talking nonsense here, sauces were 10p a sachet but salt and vinegar was definitely free!!

The person who answered the phone at around 20:20 this evening was rude and lacking any sort of customer service so decided to go elsewhere for my food. I don’t normally leave 1 star reviews but the person on the phone also put the phone down on myself as well.

We always get our fish suppers from here. It is always fresh and more than plenty of it. Would highly recommend going here, value for money 👌

Great fish and chips from the friendliest owner

I was exhausted, starving, craving fish and chips, and missed all the warning signs. 1 On the menu board it stated that the food was cooked in beef oil. No one uses that anymore. 2 the food was precooked and hot held, not made fresh. 3 I could see into the cooking area where there was a huge pile of haddock. It was not covered and not on ice. The servings were huge, enough for 2 people in one serving. You had to pay extra for ketchup, tartar sauce, and vinegar. They didn’t have napkins, but handed us some paper towels when we asked. He had to scrounge for utensils. Haddock was dry, extra crispy (hence beef oil). Never finished it as it sat like a lump in my stomach. Need I say more?

Just thought we'd try you again. Bad Decision the chips were not edible. Heavens above if you can't cook chips better than we got tonight. Give up!!!!! Sausages were ok but the battery was sliding off.

Really good fish and chips, great sized portions. Very tasty and quickly freshly fried to order. Went back for more a couple days later! One thing I noticed, on the wall there is info about all their products, and what items may cause allergic reactions used in the ingredients. That's not something that you see very often. Thankfully I'm not allergic to anything but handy for anybody who is.

Lovely chippy. I did only have a portion of chips BUT the place was really busy and the food looked nice. They cook in beef fat for all you veggies out there save you the trouble of asking. My chios were lovely and plenty of them.

Very efficient service with a good selection to choose from. Even at busy times you’re not waiting that long.

The fish was really ok, crispy and very juicy. The fries were probably already cooked beforehand and would be kept warm. So very hard and dry. Unfortunately, our waitress always spat something out when we spoke, not exactly appetizing.

Happy Haddock is a takeaway, so no seating. Fish is outstanding. Service is pleasant and friendly.

£3.50 for a haggis supper... £1.30 for a deep fried mars. All delish. If only I didn't live 400 miles away... 😢

It's a chippy in Orkney. Was only one open when we were looking for some quick, much needed, food for the kids and the young at heart. Food was fresh and tasted good. Same prices as main mainland and filled a hole. Not veggie friendly as cooks in beef dripping. Struggling a little to find places to eat as a tourist. Not as much open as thought there would be. Definitely plan ahead for food when up here. Otherwise Orkney, you're great.

As far as a fish and chip shop goes it was not very good. The food was too greasy and tasted of old oil. I understand the price pressure and paying 25p for a take away box is ok. Just felt the whole process was very rude. The young lad serving us was really friendly though.

The staff here are very friendly and attentive but the fish and chips was average and i still had to pay for tomato sauce on top of the price of the fish. Not bad but not the best.

Always great food here, with fast and friendly service, albeit a limited menu compared with some fish and chip shops. The fish is always particularly delicious and generously portioned. (Update) Daughter was up for the holidays and bemoaning the lack of good fish in Edinburgh chippies. Took her here and she called the fish "life-changing". I mean that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it was delicious :) (Update 2 - 20 Jul 23) Was heaving when we went in, but fast efficient service as always and the food was delicious.

We stopped here this evening for our tea after visiting some family friends. The gentleman behind the counter was very polite and served us very quickly. We had a short wait for our food, which was no problem especially since everything was cooked fresh to order and piping hot when we got it. The food was delicious and the prices were very reasonable. We will definitely stop here again if we are in the area.

Popped in for fish supper whilst on hols. Fish was lovely but chips very 'greasy' Next time will order single fish. Disappointed that they do not offer breaded haddock on the menu, most good chippies offer this product. Service pleasant enough.

(heads up for any tourists, this is takeaway, there are no tables inside the shop) This was such a nice place! We were on a day trip in Kirkwall and my dad wanted to get fish and chips, so he found this place. We went in just a few minutes before they closed for the afternoon, but they quickly served our party of 7. The owner(?) was very helpful and funny; he asked everyone if they wanted salt and vinegar as he handed out our orders, and even asked if I wanted it on my fried mars bar (which was so tasty, without the salt and vinegar lol). I actually got chicken nuggets and mozzarella sticks, which were good! my family all got fish and chips, and everyone really enjoyed their food! Definitely recommend for a quick bite

Great fish and chips. You order by the meal not by the number of fish! 1 fish is large and enough for 1 person. We were there Friday dinner time and had to wait 20 mins but it was worth it.

Chips dry and looked like they'd been re-cooked, dry & shrivelled. Fish was shockingly bland, wasn't fresh fish either, looked like it had been processed (dense and solid, not flakey like fish fish is) Curry sause (how you can get this worng when owners are chinese!!) is watery and lacking taste. Asked for buttered roll, got a sesame barm with melt butter. It was absolutely shocking, wouldn't feed it to the birds......

The fish was excellent and the batter was too - cooked in beef dripping. The only problem is that it wasn't quite cooked all the way, so the batter kept falling off the fish. Other than that SO GOOD. If I could rate 4.5 stars, I would.

Excellent all round.....Lovely Fish n Chips.....(Fish Supper).....Good potion....Tasty...... came back few days later for chips....again lovely...... We have been here before..about 5 years ago...it was good then and it was good this time..... Same people running it.....Nice and friendly...... Shame we live main land...look forward to returning

It is one of the best fish I had ever eat, especially when it is just fried. So crispy delicious tasty. The couple are so nice. Definitely highly recommend.

Good portion sizes for your money, food quality os good, maybe a wee bit greasy but still delicious. I would definitely go back when in the area.

Huge portion of chips - just as well as half of them had black bits on them. Good chippers discard the bad bits of potato. Fish (type unspecified) was thin and fried to the point of leather at the tail end. Would have to be pretty desperate to return.

I used to work there treat staff horrible and. Said i was. Fat first time meeting them about job they made a homeless guy go hungry and. Said no we don't have. Spear food when they literally did

Sorry but very poor quality. Chips were hard and no sign of the salt & chilli on them that I ordered. Batter is very very thick, full of oil & food is left in the top display so our patties and king rib were only warm. Really disappointed and poor value for money as couldn’t eat most of it.

Only one type of fish - and not sure the haddock is that happy about it - but the portions are huge and the chips are cooked in beef fat which you can really taste. Lovely, if a deep-fried mars bar or pie is what you are after!

Real good fish and chips - no arguing. Staff is friendly, portions are generous. If you want to eat on-site don’t forget tissue (more a take away than a restaurant), but 2-4 ppl can sit.

Surprisingly cheap,but soon realised why, 85% of the chips were rock hard and to the point of uneatable, chips should be the easier part but this place fails massively with that, salt and chilli chips I swear to god were just salty chips, won't go again

We arrived at lunch time, just as they were closing, but the kind staff stayed on and cooked our lunch! Beautifully cooked ...battered haddock and chips. Good sized portions. We ate it on a bench outside St Magnus and thoroughly enjoyed it.
