Just thought we'd try you again. Bad Decision the chips were not edible. Heavens above if you can't cook chips better than we got tonight. Give up!!!!! Sausages were ok but the battery was sliding off.

Highly recommended by locals on Mainland, not disappointed, freshly cooked, good sized portion and reasonable prices. Shame it's so far from home!

Really good fish and chips, great sized portions. Very tasty and quickly freshly fried to order. Went back for more a couple days later! One thing I noticed, on the wall there is info about all their products, and what items may cause allergic reactions used in the ingredients. That's not something that you see very often. Thankfully I'm not allergic to anything but handy for anybody who is.

Lovely chippy. I did only have a portion of chips BUT the place was really busy and the food looked nice. They cook in beef fat for all you veggies out there save you the trouble of asking. My chios were lovely and plenty of them.

Excellent value chip shop. Very tasty at prices that will pleasantly surprise you. Really large portion of chips with both my wife's fish and my chicken. When we do back, and we will, one of our meals will be a single, rather than a supper.

Great place for fast food in Kirkwall. Huge portion of fish and excellent chips; good value take out meal.

Very efficient service with a good selection to choose from. Even at busy times you’re not waiting that long.

Der Fisch war wirklich in Ordnung, knusprig und sehr noch sehr saftig. Die Pommes waren vermutlich auch schon vorher gegart und würden warm gehalten. Also sehr hart und trocken. Unsere Bedienung hat leider immer beim Sprechen irgendwas ausgespuckt, nicht Grade Appetitlicht.

Happy Haddock is a takeaway, so no seating. Fish is outstanding. Service is pleasant and friendly.

£3.50 for a haggis supper... £1.30 for a deep fried mars. All delish. If only I didn't live 400 miles away... 😢

It's a chippy in Orkney. Was only one open when we were looking for some quick, much needed, food for the kids and the young at heart. Food was fresh and tasted good. Same prices as main mainland and filled a hole. Not veggie friendly as cooks in beef dripping. Struggling a little to find places to eat as a tourist. Not as much open as thought there would be. Definitely plan ahead for food when up here. Otherwise Orkney, you're great.

As far as a fish and chip shop goes it was not very good. The food was too greasy and tasted of old oil. I understand the price pressure and paying 25p for a take away box is ok. Just felt the whole process was very rude. The young lad serving us was really friendly though.

Always great food here, with fast and friendly service, albeit a limited menu compared with some fish and chip shops. The fish is always particularly delicious and generously portioned. (Update) Daughter was up for the holidays and bemoaning the lack of good fish in Edinburgh chippies. Took her here and she called the fish "life-changing". I mean that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it was delicious :) (Update 2 - 20 Jul 23) Was heaving when we went in, but fast efficient service as always and the food was delicious.

The staff here are very friendly and attentive but the fish and chips was average and i still had to pay for tomato sauce on top of the price of the fish. Not bad but not the best.

Nothing about it is happy, the owner is very rude to consumers and staff.

We stopped here this evening for our tea after visiting some family friends. The gentleman behind the counter was very polite and served us very quickly. We had a short wait for our food, which was no problem especially since everything was cooked fresh to order and piping hot when we got it. The food was delicious and the prices were very reasonable. We will definitely stop here again if we are in the area.

Popped in for fish supper whilst on hols. Fish was lovely but chips very 'greasy' Next time will order single fish. Disappointed that they do not offer breaded haddock on the menu, most good chippies offer this product. Service pleasant enough.

(heads up for any tourists, this is takeaway, there are no tables inside the shop) This was such a nice place! We were on a day trip in Kirkwall and my dad wanted to get fish and chips, so he found this place. We went in just a few minutes before they closed for the afternoon, but they quickly served our party of 7. The owner(?) was very helpful and funny; he asked everyone if they wanted salt and vinegar as he handed out our orders, and even asked if I wanted it on my fried mars bar (which was so tasty, without the salt and vinegar lol). I actually got chicken nuggets and mozzarella sticks, which were good! my family all got fish and chips, and everyone really enjoyed their food! Definitely recommend for a quick bite

Although it was only 5pm, it was already busy. The fish and chips from here were excellent, not greasy and a light batter around the very generous portions of fish. What a treat.

Great fish and chips. You order by the meal not by the number of fish! 1 fish is large and enough for 1 person. We were there Friday dinner time and had to wait 20 mins but it was worth it.

Chips dry and looked like they'd been re-cooked, dry & shrivelled. Fish was shockingly bland, wasn't fresh fish either, looked like it had been processed (dense and solid, not flakey like fish fish is) Curry sause (how you can get this worng when owners are chinese!!) is watery and lacking taste. Asked for buttered roll, got a sesame barm with melt butter. It was absolutely shocking, wouldn't feed it to the birds......

The fish was excellent and the batter was too - cooked in beef dripping. The only problem is that it wasn't quite cooked all the way, so the batter kept falling off the fish. Other than that SO GOOD. If I could rate 4.5 stars, I would.

Excellent all round.....Lovely Fish n Chips.....(Fish Supper).....Good potion....Tasty...... came back few days later for chips....again lovely...... We have been here before..about 5 years ago...it was good then and it was good this time..... Same people running it.....Nice and friendly...... Shame we live main land...look forward to returning

It is one of the best fish I had ever eat, especially when it is just fried. So crispy delicious tasty. The couple are so nice. Definitely highly recommend.

Good portion sizes for your money, food quality os good, maybe a wee bit greasy but still delicious. I would definitely go back when in the area.

Huge portion of chips - just as well as half of them had black bits on them. Good chippers discard the bad bits of potato. Fish (type unspecified) was thin and fried to the point of leather at the tail end. Would have to be pretty desperate to return.

I used to work there treat staff horrible and. Said i was. Fat first time meeting them about job they made a homeless guy go hungry and. Said no we don't have. Spear food when they literally did

Sorry but very poor quality. Chips were hard and no sign of the salt & chilli on them that I ordered. Batter is very very thick, full of oil & food is left in the top display so our patties and king rib were only warm. Really disappointed and poor value for money as couldn’t eat most of it.

Only one type of fish - and not sure the haddock is that happy about it - but the portions are huge and the chips are cooked in beef fat which you can really taste. Lovely, if a deep-fried mars bar or pie is what you are after!

You can get good food here for a fair price.

Real good fish and chips - no arguing. Staff is friendly, portions are generous. If you want to eat on-site don’t forget tissue (more a take away than a restaurant), but 2-4 ppl can sit.

Surprisingly cheap,but soon realised why, 85% of the chips were rock hard and to the point of uneatable, chips should be the easier part but this place fails massively with that, salt and chilli chips I swear to god were just salty chips, won't go again

We arrived at lunch time, just as they were closing, but the kind staff stayed on and cooked our lunch! Beautifully cooked ...battered haddock and chips. Good sized portions. We ate it on a bench outside St Magnus and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Das Happy Haddock sollte man auf keinen Fall verpassen. Etwas abseits, parallel der Fußgängerzone gelegen, gibt es hier grandiosen Fisch und Chips. Ob der Haddock fröhlich war, kann ich nicht beurteilen. Die asiatischen Köche waren es auf jeden Fall. Das Ganze gibt es nur als Take away.

The best fish and chips I had, and I ate at quite a few across Scotland, even some famous ones in Stonehaven and Oban. This one has no match. It's simple and beautiful. Fresh fish, crispy batter and fries. The guys running it are very friendly and welcoming. An absolute must when you're in Kirkwall! You won't regret trying.

V tasty haddock + chips. Nice and crispy. Super bonus was a side of the panko crumbed squid rings which were super tender and delicious. V quick service for a Friday night.

We arrived late in Kirkwall and it was 9pm by the time we went looking for food. Came past the chippy and popped our heads in the door only to find that the man behind the counter was just finishing up the nightly clean. Disappointed, we turned to go, but he spotted us and asked us in, offering "anything you want". The whole menu. Just for us. The guy even pointed out the good comb deals to us when we tried to order items separately. We ordered 2 fish&chips and a water. He fired up the fryer and prepared our meal, happily chatting with us and even giving us a second water for free when he saw us sharing. Lovely food, too, at an extremely reasonable price. Our first contact with "the locals" on Orkney, and we made to feel so very welcome. Would definitely become a regular if I lived there.

Fish is always cooked to perfection and the beef dripping takes it to a whole new level. I'd fancy most of the bad reviews are from tourists who have little concept of what makes a good chippy and are instead used to stodgy and insipid frozen rubbish back home.

Ordered two fish suppers after long day on bike visiting islands, so really looking forward to it. One problem. My wife has not eaten meat or meat products for 35 years, and only when we stepped outside did we see the small note in window...

Buy an extra fish and chips to re-heat tomorrow.....you won't regret it. Best fish and chips between Orkney and Glasgow (and I've tried a few!!!). Freshest fish I've had from a chippie.
