Good and tasty dishes, large portions. We were well received, although we arrived quite late.

We've been here before and had a good time, however we had to unfortunately cancel a booking which we discussed with a member of staff over the phone several hours before we were due to be there. Much to our surprise we later received an expletive filled voicemail screaming at us for not showing up for our booking and calling us an idiot customer. As you can imagine we phoned back to discuss why we had just been screamed at like disobedient children over the phone and the manager continued to yell down the phone until finally conceding maybe his colleague hadn't communicated the cancellation properly. There's more than one Indian restaurant in Kirkwall, so if you don't fancy being spoken to like you're an complete idiot, I'd go to the other one.

Good food, portions and service. Decent price.

I was there with a few friends in June 2024. The food I would say was mediocre at best. The staff seemed friendly enough when we arrived but the service deteriorated as the evening went on. To add to the poor service they charged us £10 per pint of kingfisher beer. Definitely would never cross there threshold again. They must be relying on tourists trade because local people certainly would never go back after an experience like ours. Very very disappointed.

Excellent food.... One waiter but there was no lacking in service I asked about a sauce...and he told me the ingredients straight off...... Very delicious food Best ever poppadoms...I would go back

I've tried to order takeaway from Dil Se three times now, over at least 6 months. The website is always active for creating an order but you can never put it through because delivery is always unavailable, which you don't get told until you try to pay. When I called & queried I got a garbled response about a half hour wait, a taxi, then got abruptly put on hold & left there! Really unimpressed by the lack of accurate, clear information on the website & the poor telephone handling. I'm not going to bother attempting a fourth order.

Tasty food to warm you up after camping in the rain. Two dishes we ordered for collection were hot and tasted lovely. Staff were friendly and the restaurant was warm and inviting inside.

I would strongly advise anyone to keep clear of this establishment, my work colleagues and I decided to treat ourselves to or favorite cuisine and we were left extremely disappointed, The food was very bland and taste less, and the service was shocking , one waiter for 30+ customers, It gets better we each paid separately which I wouldn't see been an issue, they really struggled with this simple task, it took a good 15min, I was the last to pay and left, As we were walking away from the restaurant the owner I think came running out pointing looking very angry saying "you no pay" I went back in to see if there was an issue, he wanted £35 more but could not explain what it was for , I asked politely did you make a mistake, he replied abruptly No, At this stage the whole restaurant was looking at me I felt so embarrassed I just paid him,

We ordered takeaway on 2 March 2024. I've eaten at Dil Se a number of times before and it's always okay - no more than that. Sadly "okay" is the best you will get anywhere in Kirkwall. I had the chicken tikka chilli garlic and my partner had the tandoori mixed grill. We also had a garlic naan. Chicken tikka chilli garlic is a dish I enjoy and the flavour profile was okay. Very garlicky which I like although I normally prefer it a bit hotter. Sadly the chicken was pre-cooked and noticeably stale. The tandoori mixed grill included pieces of chicken breast and lamb with some chicken on the bone. It came with a basic salad and creamy dip. Again flavour okay if a bit lacking in depth. The lamb was reasonably tender but chicken quite rubbery. All the meats had been pre-cooked and then re-heated. The garlic naan, as is typical for Orkney, was thick and doughy with not much garlic. My personal preference is to stretch the dough a bit thinner and have more garlic. On the pre-cooking of chicken etc: there are lots of restaurants which do this to save time but it is very noticeable. If your processes are properly engineered it's not difficult to skewer the meat and put it in the tandoor as the orders come in, which doesn't really take any longer than using the microwave to re-heat it. The service was fine as it always is and I have found the atmosphere fine when I've dined in before, although tonight we had takeaway. Overall, the lack of attention to detail with the food is the difference between a two star meal and a four star meal.

First time I have been disappointed by Indian food. The nan was tasteless and the lamb was disappointing. Service was also nothing to cheer about.

Supposed to be open on a Monday lunchtime from 12-2 but definitely not. A bit of a shame when I had driven in to order a significant takeaway for a dinner party. A shame because the food is excellent.

Really not a very good Indian. The chutneys and popadoms were not fresh and had a weird gross skin on them. The lamb was really tough. The dal was just water, there were no lentils. Generally had no flavour in any dishes. Really disappointed.

Disapointing experience. Food was fabulous as always as we have eaten here many times in the 10 years we have lived here. The waiter however was on loud speaker on his phone to his family for the entire duration from when we entered the restaurant until when we left, approx 1 hour. There was no music so we heard the whole conversation on both sides throughout our whole meal. He also presented me with a bill which I thought was too high so he added it up again and got it to £2.75 less. This experience ruined our meal. Will think before we go again

It was lovely. The garlic chilli chicken could have been a bit hotter but the mushroom bhaji and tarka dahl side dishes were lovely. The chicken was nice and moist though and that's the real test. Good to see its back open again.

We loved our meal! The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere with great service. The food itself was superb - really tasty! We ordered dishes 29 and 92 and I definitely recommend them.

A disappointing experience. On the evidence of the poppadoms and relishes - which were neither crisp nor fresh - we decided to cancel the order we had placed. The waiter quite reasonably billed us only for our drinks. Fortunately we managed to find a table elsewhere.

Lovely meal. Food was as good as I'd expect from a big city restaurant and although it was Saturday night and very busy, the excellent waiter was doing a fab job.

Attentive service. Classic interaction. Even the heated towel at the end of the meal from a long lost tradition in all good Indian restaurants. Food cooked well portion sizes just right . Yes a venue worthy of consideration.

Booked online and when we arrived he rudely told us we weren't booked in. After waiving a paper chatty at us and mumbling away he directed us to a table.No handgel as we came in and no track and trace.We ordered a diet coke which came in a can with a straw??? The panoramic was rock hard and onion bahgi was swimming in ghee.Tandori prawns were like rubber and came with the starter dip,no sauce.Very small portion of rice.Chicken passander was tiny too.All in all the worst Indian I've eaten ever.Staff were very rude and at the end didn't ask if we would like a desert.Local carryout as we saw lots of people walking through to collect giant boxes of carryout food.poor things.The only good thing about it was the decor,shame.

Worst service ever!! Used the app online, payed the transactions and it said it had gone through. Then they phone up about half am hour later saying that it hadnt gone through even tho it says its been taken out our bank and then continue to say we arent getting any food and we might get our monet back inba few days. Pathetic been sat here waiting the kids are starving! And a waste of 50 if we dont ger it back will not be ordering from here again!!!
