Exceptionally family B&B - We had a wonderful week as guests of James and Leesa! If you want a beautiful, spacious B&B with warm, open and friendly hosts and an excellent breakfast - this is it! :) Accommodation/feeling: Depending on your personal taste, you can have a “quick and easy” stay here: say hello, get a room, stay 1-2 nights, have breakfast and leave again. OR (clear recommendation!): You can use the breakfast/lounge room in the house with a fantastic view and winter garden panoramic windows as well as the small garden. You can have a nice chat - no matter how good or bad your English is: James and Leesa are happy to chat with you if you want. The breakfast is very extensive with lots of choice and is unusually great by British standards. There is very good, freshly ground filter coffee, many different types of tea and also hot chocolate. In addition to the classic warm selection (Scottish, eggs, porridge), there is a variety of fresh fruit, yoghurts, cornflakes, spreads from jam to peanut butter and the warm food is pleasantly less greasy than usual 👍🏻😊 All of this is served in the beautiful, sunny breakfast room with a view of the Tay and with a warm good morning and - if you like - a bit of chat. We were happy to have James give us the “tip of the day” in the morning and every single one was great! :) Leesa is the sweet soul of the house. When French guests were in the house, she added fresh croissants to the breakfast in the morning. Another day she gave away a homemade version of toffee. Overall, the two of them were by far the warmest and most familiar hosts we ever had on two trips to Scotland ☺️☀️ Room: Our room (Blue Room) was quiet, very spacious, well equipped, very clean, absolutely homely and typical of the country. What I really liked was the neatly packed mattresses - a clear plus point for allergy sufferers! But here's the only negative point: the beds are also typical of the country - with a lot of spring and (for German backs) a little harder (but still far from back pain!). I folded and placed the extra wool blanket as a cushion, but softer mattresses or the option of getting a topper would be a good improvement. :) Location: The B&B is absolutely ideal! You are right on the street in all directions without it being noisy. You can go on various hikes or cycle directly from your front door. Both the Cairngorms and the local Highlands are right there. There are many castles nearby, endless hiking trails with and without waterfalls. With Pitlochry there are many bars and restaurants nearby - here too: ask James! ;) There is also a larger COOP and bus routes to all major cities. Clear recommendation - definitely stay longer than 1-2 nights and drive a little further to your excursions! ☺️👍🏻

We had a fantastic experience renting bikes here! The service was friendly and straightforward, with excellent tour recommendations tailored to our plans and fitness levels. We rented two e-mountain bikes for £90 a day and enjoyed a wonderful tour from Pitlochry to Blair Castle and the surrounding areas. Helmets and a bike lock were included, and the return process was just as easy. We would definitely rent bikes from here again in the future!

We had one of our best meals of the trip at Sandemans. All of the dishes were delicious, but the whole experience was even better because the sommelier was so knowledgable and took our meal to a whole other level.

Honestly this hotel exceeded our expectations. We travelled as a family of 4 (including the dog) and from the photos we expected quite a small place, but it was surprisingly large! We arrived at night time to a beautifully lit hotel in the middle of autumnal foliage of the trees, with a well lot/decorated terrace wrapping around the hotel. We found the service to be incredibly friendly and helpful, and the food well exceeded our expectations. Everything was homemade, and the creme brulee was next level. Hotel was cosy, and the room - although older in style - was comfortable and cosy with everything you need. If coming here for a fishing trip, I'd phone ahead of schedule to organise fishing tickets, as I left it too late and the last of the tickets for the local beat were gone.

Such a memorable, lovely experience staying at Saorsa 1875. Highly, highly recommend. Other accommodation around and about the Highlands could learn a lot from this place. Finding your USP and totally owning it. So refreshing from the usual b&b / hotel in these parts. It’s a beautiful place from the hotel itself to the staff to the food. You also don’t have to be vegan to enjoy the wonderful food and drink (I’m not!). Would defo return. Thank you.

We stopped by this cozy restaurant on our way back to Edinburgh from Inverness, and it was a fantastic experience! The staff was incredibly friendly, making us feel right at home. Our dinner was absolutely delicious, the dessert was brilliant, and the coffee was superb – truly authentic Italian. The prices were very reasonable, making the whole experience even better. Highly recommend!

Since seeing my first play here last week, I have popped back in to the café with my son to warm up after our sip in the Loch! The play, Noel Coward’s Brief Encounter, was fabulous. The cast of seven also dipped in and out of a jazz band on stage that added a beautiful dynamic to the play. We started our evening with supper in the café - delicious soup, a glass of wine and a sweet treat to finish, served by friendly and helpful staff. You can order picnic boxes which give a delightful mix of supper items to fit all dietary requirements. Views over the river Tummel and even to Ben Vrackie on a clear day. The newly redeveloped café and entrance area is a lovely open space to await a performance or just pop in for a coffee and cake whilst visiting the area. There’s outside seating and a little children’s play area as well as a small number of plants for sale from the Explorers Garden which is in the same site; and ticketed separately (£5) and well worth a visit.

My family and I recently stayed at Fonab Castle for my partner's 40th Birthday. The hotel was lovely and the location is beautiful but we did have a few issues during our stay. I booked a spa treatment for my partner for Saturday 2nd Nov at 10.00am. My partner arrived just before 10am to check in and was asked to take a seat until her therapist arrived. At 10.30am my partner decided to come back to the room as the therapist had not shown up for the appointment. We did receive a phone call later in the day to come back for a treatment but we had already left to go out for the day. No further appointments were offered during our stay. Quite disappointing as the treatment was partly the reason for staying at Fonab Castle. On Saturday night we booked one of the pods for dinner at 6.30pm. When we arrived we were told we could not have a high chair in the pod even though this was requested a couple of weeks prior to the booking and also when I confirmed our booking on the morning of our reservation. So instead of being able to have our 1 year old daughter in a high chair she had to sit beside us on the seat which made the evening a little trickier to navigate. We then waited 45 mins for someone to come and take our order. It felt like we had been totally forgotten. The phone that was in the pod did not work so we could not get anyone's attention. We then asked about the lighting and were told that the lighting was actually broken and we could not adjust it via the remote control. Ths meant we could not see the view due to the reflection of the lights on the windows. The F&B manager was very apologetic and did her best to make up for this but it's not what I expected having paid £75 just for the use of the pod at a 5 star hotel. One of our friends had called the hotel to order and pay for a bottle of champagne for our Pod Experience, which was there on arrival. Unfortunately, when we were checking out this champagne had been added to our bill. I am not sure why, as our bill should not have been a part of this process. A disappointing experience for a weekend that cost over £1300. Fonab Castle have yet to repsond to my email (3 weeks ago)
