Can't fault this place - food was exceptional (best vegetarian food i've had in Scotland). The service was excellent and the place itself is gorgeous. What other place can have portraits of Ragnar Lothbrok AND the Last Supper on the wall? Flawless. Effervescent.

My boyfriend and I popped in for dinner after walking around Aberfeldy and were really chuffed. The waiter was kind and chatty, the food was tasty and filling and we will be recommending.

Intrigued by the reviews, we dined here this week, took our own wine, and cash, the owner was lovely, so welcoming, lovely to talk to, and helpful, and nice, and all the food is home made, the meze was amazing, incredible flavours, and served with not one but two as we could not get enough of the flatbread ( lavash) ancient, wafer thin, pliable flatbread , just awesome, crisp, fluffy and warm, and with the hummus just delicious, main courses good too, and the baklava was the best I have ever tasted and will remember it for a long time to come, cardamom, and rose scented, and just melts in your mouth, it was quite busy for a Tuesday evening, and plan to return next time I am in the area - they work very hard in there, and everything is reasonably priced. Thank you so much.

A unique restaurant that has to be experienced when in Aberfeldy. Tasty food at a reasonable price with top service. The decor is hard to describe but fits the place

All you can buffet is amazing, choice of any pizzas to start, followed by lovely tomato pasta and Donner kebab, at which point we were offered more courses but couldn’t eat anymore. Very friendly owner couple, couldn’t recommend enough

This was not my first time here and as ever it did not disappoint. Took some friends who had never been and we loved the food so much we went back the following day and dined again! Lovely service, excellent value, delicious flavours. A hidden gem in Aberfeldy which is just off the Main Street and has been going for years. If you want alcohol It’s bring your own bottle but the co op just across the road has lots of chilled alcohol.

Checheks, Aberfeldy, Scotland - Excellent Vegan and Vegetarian food in Scotland On our trip from Inverness to Glasgow, we discovered Checheks, a charming local Persian Mediterranean restaurant in Aberfeldy. The decor was stunning, transporting us straight to the Mediterranean. The food was absolutely delicious, with a great variety of vegetarian and vegan options. The owner was exceptionally friendly and made sure we had a wonderful dining experience. The Kashk Bademjam, an Iranian dish featuring baked aubergines with a special sauce, garlic, and herbs, was a revelation of flavors and textures. The Lebanese Fulmo Damas, a vibrant combination of broad beans, onion, tomatoes, lemon, parsley, and garlic, transported us straight to the Mediterranean coast. Equally delightful was the Tabsi, a Lebanese medley of aubergine, onion, tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, and parsley, cooked to perfection with Middle Eastern spices. Checheks is a testament to the rich and diverse world of vegetarian cuisine. Whether you're a dedicated vegan, vegetarian or simply curious to explore new flavors, this hidden gem on the A9 is an absolute must-try.

My partner and I went for dinner here and really enjoyed it. The food was delicious!! We had the starters platter and everything was divine! We had the chicken kebab and a chicken and sweetcorn pizza and it was all delicious. Also considering the price, it was well worth it. Bit of a shame it is so tucked away, as it deserves more visitors!

I had a lovely meal here, starting with amazing hummous with a truly special, just-baked flatbread -- lavash I believe it's called. Then a tasty, hearty stew. While I had the ethnic experience, their extensive menu includes items all the family will enjoy -- burgers, chicken, etc. So there's no excuse not to go! Checheks doesn't have a licence and doesn't take cards.

We booked a table for tonight at 7pm… arrived there and saw that their door is closed. The whole restaurant is closed until July. There was no notification or anything online.

I don't really want to be mean but our experience here was very disappointing. The meze starters were decent but the mains were such a let down. On our table three people had lamb stews, and there was collectively 10 small pieces of lamb between them. I know lamb is expensive but it was an embarrassing amount. If it's too expensive up the price or put something on the menu that wont be so disappointing. They had to search their bowls to find the meat. My lamb kebab was very dry, though the chicken was ok. Neither were bursting with flavour. The best dish on the table was a vegan broad bean dish that was quite tasty. The other reviews on here are positive, and i've been told good things about the place, but our experience did not match what we heard, maybe they were having an off night.

Had a fantastic meal tonight - faultless. Full of flavour and generous portions along the way. Good value for money. Really liked the traditional Persian vibe too. The owner was lovely, made me feel very welcome and interesting to talk to as well. Definitely recommend.

Absolutely fabulous. A Persian restaurant was not what I was expecting but so glad I found it. The food is tremendous and the wonderful chef/owner is a lovely gentleman who loves cooking and showing off his culture. The decor is very nice and relaxing and makes the meal that much more enjoyable.

Kind of weird atmosphere as we were the only ones in and felt like we were sitting in the owners livingroom. The service was very friendly but the food was slightly overpriced for what you got and very oily. It did feel very aunthetic though and was definitely an experience!

We won’t notice this wee restaurant if we don’t know about it but this restaurant is a must try. The food was amazing and the service was fantastic. My husband got the Persian tea which he was not able to finish fully , so the owner packed us some fresh tea leaves to brew it at home , that was the best customer service I have ever experienced ❤️ we will come back again .

Nice enough welcome although our online reservation had not been “noticed” (booked several weeks ago). The food was average, if over-salted for my taste. No licence and you can’t pay by card which meant an unexpected walk to the cashline. Unusual decor which is eclectic, but not in a good way. Didn’t try the loos so can’t comment.

Second visit here and we weren’t disappointed, lovely food and very reasonably priced. The owner is also very pleasant, highly recommended.

Excellent family run restaurant with gorgeous, home cooked, tasty food, so nice to try something from a different part of the world.We visited for the second time during our holiday with the family and had the set meal which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Just wish the restaurant was closer to our home town as otherwise we would be firm regulars!

We had takeaway and as a vegetarian it was a treat to get fulmo dolmas , such a tasty Persian meal.Had freshly prepared amazing hummus as a starter. Really enjoyed the meal but probably wouldn’t choose to eat in the restaurant. There seems to be no extraction fan in the kitchen and we left after our short wait for our takeaway smelling strongly of the food. We didn’t realise it was cash only but fortunately the owner was happy and prepared to take a bank transfer. Would suggest that being cash only is made obvious on the menus outside and social media. Food well worth it though and will be back for a takeaway.

A hidden gem! This restaurant isn't right on the high street, it's up a short close, so it's easy to miss. Very friendly staff. The menu is full of interesting choices - it was hard to decide what to have. But it hardly mattered - everything we had was delicious. We brought our own wine and had a great night. I'm sure we will be back soon.

Lovely food, wide range on the menu so there's something for everyone, the food was cooked fresh and the service was excellent. Comfortable little restaurant, almost feels as if you are in someone's home with a home cooked meal.

Called in here end of August 2023 with the family at their recommendation from a previous visit. Wow, the food is a very good reason for relocation to Aberfeldy and I'd probably eat there all the time. Had the Chef Recommended Kasheck Pollo Chicken and it was absolutely superb as we're all the choices of dishes we had. Don't miss this total gem if you're in the area. Wonderful friendly and attentive service, so lovely to the children too. Atmosphere is charming and feels really authentic. 100% a real gem of a place. Looking forward to my next visit.

Outstanding food. Veggie and Child friendly. A wee gem hidden away in Aberfeldy. I have been coming on holiday here for years and never tried Checheks until a friend recommended jt. Food freshly cooked to order by a wonderful couple who looked after us all brilliantly. Bring your own beer, and it is cash or balance transfer only. Will definitely be returning. The kebabs are wonderful.

Lovely dinner for 17, handled professionally and with good cheer!

We found this hidden gem in Trip Advisor and decided to give it a try as we were staying nearby in Kenmore. We didn’t book and arrived at around 5pm on a Wednesday evening. We were greeted by the host who was a great guy and showed us to our choice of table as we had the place to ourselves. The restaurant is very cosy and traditionally decorated with a nice atmosphere. It’s soft drinks and hot drinks only which was fine with us. We ordered hummus and breads for a sharing starter which was fantastic. The freshly cooked warm bread was delicious with the hummus being really tasty. The main courses we had mixed kebab (donner chicken and shish £15) served with chips, salad and a chilli sauce. We couldn’t fault any of it and all the plates went back empty. There was also a kids menu and our little one went with chicken nuggets chips and a bit of salad. Again her plate was emptied. We had baklava for desert which was lovely. The host was attentive without being in your face and he even gave out little girl a bracelet for her birthday which was a nice gesture. Our total bill was £77 which is reasonable for a family of four. We will definitely return when we are next in the area. Five stars from us *****

Definitely worth a visit when in Aberfeldy. Really tasty Persian food - had a selection of mezeh, a peri-peri chicken main and various kebabs and house salad - so nice to eat something not the same old fare at local restaurants (ie. f&c, burgers, pasta etc). Checheks is off the main square in Aberfeldy, down a short alley (see photo). Don’t be put off by the ‘take-away design of menu’. The Maitre’D is so helpful and really attentive (I wanted a salad without dressing and forgot to ask, but they provided a new salad anyway - excellent service!)

We had a lovely night in Checheks. It’s tucked away down a small lane off the Square. When we checked it out it was so much more than we expected. The food is fresh and made to order with an extensive menu. The staff were lovely. Great atmosphere. So glad we found it.

The food is outstanding with the meze a real standout. Delicate with incredible flavours. The flatbread is cooked on the premises and outstanding - warm, crisp and fluffy. The baklava was cardamom and rose scented and served with perfect Turkish coffee in ornate gold filigree cups. The owner has a lovely, gentle manner and is so friendly and welcoming.

Always seen this place when I've been in aberfeldy over the years but never went in. What a mistake. Today went in as a family of four and loved the tasty food and traditional decor. Host was very attentive. Very reasonable prices. Pity it's so far away from my town.

Checheks is not your everyday restaurant in Aberfeldy but it’s a wonderful spot that shouldn’t be missed if you’re in town. With a variety of Persian dishes on the menu the couple who owns this place have created a quirky but homely atmosphere and delicious food too. Will definitely be back for more!

Very authentic family run Persian restaurant in Aberfeldy. The food is simple but delicious, clearly very home style and not particularly modified to suit the mainstream British palate which is wonderful. It’s lovely finding such eclectic cuisine in such a far flung place, as this is normally the sort of restaurant that you might happen across in Kensington High Street. Friendly service and great food. No alcohol licence so bring your own. Highly recommended.

Quirky and cosy -the food was delicious. It has the look and feel of home cooking which meant great service, well priced and fresh. We started with stuffed aubergine, stuffed peppers, tzatziki and flat bread which was so good. For mains we had kebabs and a I had the lamb stew which was finished in record timing-everything on our plates was devoured. Thank you to the kind owner who made us feel right at home and gave us a memorable experience on our holiday. What a highlight!

We thoroughly enjoyed eating at this place; the food was fantastic and there were multiple great options for me despite being vegan. Always a delight to eat in this very authentic Persian restaurant. Staff are friendly and although visits are very few always a friendly welcome awaits. The Persian flat bead with the meze is delicious Would recommend the mixed kebab or any for that matter.

A fantastic dining experience for our group of 8. No drinks licence so we took our own alcohol. The food was fabulous. Mixed starters and 8 different main meals, served quickly and with plenty of side orders. Nothing too much trouble for the owners. We shall be back.
