We popped in here for a takeaway for the first time as we have heard good things.
There's a good selection on offer and it didn't take long.
The food was nice enough and reasonably priced but the cheese on the chips didn't melt so wouldn't recommend that tbh, we weren't even given any forks, napkins or sauce?!
Having booked a table for dinner we visited the Glenelg Inn looking forward to a nice meal.
The Inn was very busy and we were seated in the “dining room” area as opposed to the bar which has a much better atmosphere and a lot more character.
No menus are provided, the “menu” is written on a blackboard on the wall in the bar area which we had to read to decide what we wanted to order. As the bar was busy and to avoid standing in the thoroughfare, I had to photograph the menu and return to our table where we could then read what was available. All a bit awkward.
We both decided on the venison cheeseburger with hand cut chips and coleslaw.
The cutlery arrived on a tin plate which was put onto the table nowhere near where it should have been placed, i.e where the diner was sitting. Likewise the coca cola so service rating zero.
After a fairly lengthy wait the meals arrived. Small venison burgers in small brioche buns with a thin slice of tomato, limp piece of lettuce, a tiny amount of melted cheese on top, very thinly grated cabbage with no mayonnaise or dressing which was described as coleslaw and to put the icing on the plate, soggy chips. To top it all the burger was overly salty.
I see there are good reviews for the food, I can’t understand why, unless it was different owners or a different chef.
Lovely place for a drink but we definitely will not be back for food.
We came with some friends and the children prior to the Christmas light switch on. It took an hour from us arriving to getting our food so sadly the children missed the switch on. The food was good though, and the kids eating free was a bonus. Service time was the only let down.
First visit to this lovely tea house. Beautiful setting and although they were busy and my husband and I hadn’t booked they found us a table
No fuss, no problem. We had lovely homemade soup (nicest I’ve had in a while when eating out). Finished off with a great proper cup of coffee and some lovely home baking.
Well worth a visit and we will definitely be back when we are next in the area.
We stopped by The Coffee Apothecary in Pitmedden for lunch today. It was our first time visiting and it was a delightful experience. I ordered the savoury pancakes, which came with bacon, eggs, and maple syrup. The combination was delicious - everything was cooked to perfection and beautifully balanced.
To go with it, I had an Earl Grey tea served in a lovely blue willow china cup. The tea arrived loose leaf in a pot with a removable filter, which added a nice touch of ceremony to the experience.
The atmosphere was warm and inviting, perfect for a cold winter day, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout. Overall, a great spot for lunch with a cozy, welcoming vibe. Highly recommend!

The worst Indian meal I have ever eaten.
I will guess the ingredients: one tin Campbell's condensed soup. One tin Heinze lentil soup, some Cumin, lemon juice and chilli powder added late as the taste isn't cooked in, under season.
Add steamed lamb that doesn't taste like lamb but could maybe be bulked with chicken(?) combine and serve for a hefty price.
I take my hat off to you; staying in business with this kind of fodder.
Popped in for lunch and had a wonderful experience.
We were welcomed with a friendly smile and shown to our table.
Service was sharp and came with great recommendations.
The cake selection was fantastic, great GF and vegan options.
Looking forward to my next visit.
I don’t even know what the place looks like but from what I seen from all the reviews and photos and stuff, the place is really nice and I would most definitely go if I could, tell kyran I said hi
Fabulous place for a relaxed lunch.
An authentic family run restaurant adhering to very high standards.
Superb and authentic Italian food, fabulous service and a warm convivial atmosphere.
If you are in the Scottish Borders, very highly recommended.
Two meals in same week. First was fine but elevated by enthusiastic young waiter, second was marred by incredibly disinterested staff (middle aged women and I’m one so I feel free to say that). Had to ask for tap water and they only brought 1 glass, my husband missed out. My bad, I won’t try a third time!
