Farquharson's Bar and Kitchen in Aberdeenshire

The pub is lovely with fire, friendly staff, dogs allowed and nice relaxed atmosphere. Food is not so hot! Portion sizes are good but they have a very limited vegi selection. Our food arrived very quickly and looked like it had been sitting in the kitchen pots for some time, it was only warm and veg was a bit shrivelled and with very little flavour, and certainly over priced. Would definitely go for drinks in the lovely bar but wouldn’t eat

Went out for pub lunch and discovered this gem. Very friendly staff. Good sized portions and very yummy food. Really enjoyed my experience here. Thank you to all the staff for making my lunchtime in Braemar absolutely lovely!

This pub is classic Scottish hospitality. Warm and friendly with great food and drink. From the moment we walked in to when we left, the service was exceptional. Our waitress Santa was so lovely and friendly, with endless enthusiasm and friendly chat. The food was hot and wholesome and the beer selection was great. Overall just a great night out.

Atmosphere not as friendly as the other dining options in Braemar, but menu price wise was on a par. Husband’s venison casserole came in a small dish with some mash and no veg. My chicken kebab had a huge portion of chicken and I enjoyed that and the salads but the chips definitely felt reheated rather than freshly made - as I also had rice and a wrap perhaps safer to not serve them with the dish. Maybe the burgers are a better bet here, but I would pick the other Braemar options in preference.

Great food and drink in lovely surroundings and great atmosphere. Menu has everything you could want and nice selection. I had Highlander Burger which was excellent. Staff very nice and friendly.

Very good atmosphere and service. Tasty food. A bit limited for vegetarians. I had veggie haggis which I enjoyed but would have liked another choice.

4 great meals - my chicken Balmoral was amazing would have it every time I ate here. The 3 other meals were burgers chicken and Angus all were superb.

Lovely outdoor seating area. The sun was shining so even better. It was very busy inside so I would recommend booking first. We weren’t able to eat outside because they were short staffed. Dog friendly too which is great. Will return again.

I’m sad to say i was disappointed. Three friends enjoyed their food. They had chilli tortillas, caesar salad and a beef cobbler. My smoked salmon avocado salad had no dressing, no pomegranate, was a huge pile of bitter leaves and really not enjoyable. I had high hopes too! Braemar itself is stunning.

We booked a table for two this afternoon asking for around 7pm, none available. So, we opted for earlier 5.30pm. We arrived to see a few tables for two reserved and we were shown one a bit too near the door. I asked if we could have one of the other empty reserved tables for two further back as we had our little dog with us, only to be advised “ no”. I couldn’t understand why, perhaps had these tables been specifically requested? was told they had rearranged or something not really clear to us, and as there wasn’t really anywhere else to go in the village, we took this table and were advised it was also booked for 7.30pm. I’d read reviews about slow service, so hoped 2 hours would be enough for us. We ordered, very pleasant waitress, brought water for our little dog. Our started took just over 30 minutes to arrive, loaded fries to share. An ample portion. My partner chose the Highlander Burger and I had the smoked salmon with salad, again ample portions. We had a bottle of red wine and tap water. After finishing our starter, the same lady who couldn’t let us have a different table (we assume is a manager ) took away our plates and asked if we’d like anything else. We said that we’d ordered our main course already, she then took away our cutlery! and headed towards the bar. I said “ excuse me…you’ve taken our knives and forks…we don’t eat with our fingers”. Apologetically she brought them back. This is the same lady who couldn’t change our table, and well over an hour went before anyone arrived for these other tables. Did they request a specific table when they booked ? Perhaps they did, which I will remember for the future. Many people arrived who hadn’t booked and were turned away and advised to try the local Bistro, there must have been umpteen of them sent there. By the time we finished our meal which was absolutely delicious and enjoyed our bottle of wine it was a few minutes after 7.30pm. I paid by card and there is an option to add a gratuity which I declined as I prefer to leave cash as a tip, which I did. I’ve been there many times since 2017, but it’s been 2 years since I was last there for a meal and the food is still very good but I didn’t have this caper over a table, I reserved and had a choice of what was reserved. It won’t stop another visit but I think I’ll ask for a specific table when I do book again.

This is a very busy Bar/restaurant. There is not a huge choice of places to eat in the area so it is definitely a good idea to book. The food is great, the staff efficient and it has a great atmosphere. We were in Braemar for a week and ate here twice. Both times it was really good.

The vibe in this pub/restaurant was fun. There were lots of friendly tourists from different nationalities talking about their holidays, and how much they like this part of the country. The food was good, and great value for money.

Popped in here after playing golf locally. Friendly service and clearly popular. Decent beer and we had a decent lunch. Friendly staff and a very pleasant atmosphere. In the middle of this little tourist town you'll find this decent place.

This location is an amazing example of Scottish hospitality. We entered the restaurant two times and got always very tasty meals, served from very attentive service personnel. Complete with some fine Lager Beer and a final dram of whiskey, we will come back some day.

Stopped in for some lunch with family, what a great little place this is! My daughter has issues surrounding food and they catered for her with no problems. The food is incredible, the service is really friendly and efficient and the hot chocolate is an amazing little treat to finish off with. Will definitely return when we find ourselves in the area again.

Extremely welcoming and friendly staff, food was delicious. We were a table of 8 our children were well catered for and added bonus of being offered colouring pages to entertain! Would recommend the chicken kebab all my family wish they had gone for this when they saw mine arrive.

What a gem of a Bar. We have driven or walked past this place many times to eat elsewhere but this time decided to give it a go. We're so glad we stopped here. I had the chicken kebab and my wife had the Rosemary Chicked and bacon salad. The portions were excellent and cooked fresh. Felt absolutely stuffed by the end of our meal. Highly recommend that you pay this place a visit. A shame that I was driving as they have a good selection of ales.

The food is first class and the hospitality the same but I'm sure that people who bring dogs into a restaurant where folk are eating can't smell their own dogs! They stink and put us off going anywhere that allow them when food is being served.

Fabulous food and friendly staff. We came here after being refused entry to The Fife Arms Hotel who told us “it’s our Sunday policy not to have walk ins”. Novel! I’ve never come across such a policy and we dine regularly at Michelin starred restaurants where I’d expect this. Anyway, in the end we were very lucky as I literally could not fault this place. The food was excellent! I had the chicken kebab - which was beautifully cooked and extremely tasty. Not your average kebab. Superb. My Scottish husband had the fish & chips - which he said was the best he’s ever had. Now, I was a bit miffed by this as I’m Cornish and we pride ourselves on our fish & chips 😉 Thank you! I honestly could not rate this place highly enough. Best eatery in Braemar 🤩

We had a delicious meal and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I would definitely go back but just a small suggestion, dim the overhead lighting and put candles on the tables.

My son was off hiking in the Cairngorms for the full day so I stopped in here later on in the evening for initially just a pot of tea. I then decided to have nachos - another pot of tea and carrot cake. All very delicious. Reasonably priced for Braemar also. I'd go back.

On a wet day we needed a dog friendly stop for lunch. lovely little place. Great lunch, I had the chicken burger. Treat’s brought for the dog. Friendly staff and a cosy fire to warm us up.

We tried Farquarsons twice. On our first trip they accommodated us at short notice. They could only offer a limited menu but it was still good, home cooked local food and we were well supplied with drinks too. For the purist, there are no hand drawn ales. That visit was pleasant. On our second trip we had the full menu as it was a later time. It was also Thursday evening. The full menu was good too, we all very much enjoyed the food and service was very good again. This time though, there were almost as many dogs in the place as people. One was incessantly barking, a couple of others were left by their owners to beg at other people’s tables. One tripped up a waitress and so on. I am a dog lover, but they should not be in restaurants. The practice is unhygienic and it utterly detracted from this dining experience. Twenty years ago we all managed to make alternative arrangements for our dogs, so why can’t we now? Not totally Farquarson’s fault but they do advertise that they are dog friendly.

The most incredible fish & chips we have ever had. The service is brilliant and such a happy atmosphere. So fresh clean and cozy. You must have your lunch here not at the snooty fife arms. We will be back thank you xx

What has happened? We were here last year and the food was lovely, big portions and delicious food. However, this time it was terrible. Opted for the same thing I had the last time I was there, the Kofta Kebab and it really couldn’t have been worse. Firstly it took at least 45 minutes to arrive. To be fair, it was busy but we were given no warning of this long delay. This meant my brother had to leave early as he had things to organise with the folk festival. As well as this, when the food eventually arrived, the rice was missing and the rest of the food was all overcooked/burnt. The koftas were cleverly placed burnt side down so that it would not show immediately but was made immediately apparent due to the dryness of the meat. Furthermore, the menu said that it was served with a flat bread, the flatbread turned out to be a tortilla cut in half! Really disappointed, was no where near worth the £16.90 it costed.
