Such a friendly place with great service and excellent food. We try to stop here whenever we are passing. The shark toilet is brilliant and definitely a reason to visit but the warm friendly service is what keeps you coming back.
A gem of a place, great food, service and atmosphere. A popular place with the amount of tables booked and once you've eaten you can tell why. Will definitely be returning.
In the area for a few days and popped into The Anglers for lunch. Beautiful entrance and restaurant well appointed, beautifully decorated and pristine. Warm welcome from the staff who were very attentive. Very appealing menu to cater for all tastes. Food fantastic and plentiful. Reasonable prices for the quality on offer. Toilets immaculate. Cannot recommend this place highly enough and would visit again if in the area. Superb!
I was slightly disappointed in our tasting menu experience. The staff were lovley and the quality of the cooking was excellent but it all left me unsatisfied.
The atmosphere of the reastraunt is cold. The cool colours, wide spaces, and nothing to break up the light sources all contributed to this feeling of exposure. The food itself was interesting but lacked acid and depth. I love eating new ingredients, but it felt like I was limited to my parents' organic veg box with no acid to really liven it up.
I wanted a pickled element in almost every dish.
Even the desserts, which were rhubarb( one of the sharpest fruits) and the baked cream, were very one-note. There is no acid and no real substance to either.
All the dishes lacked substance. I was craving carbohydrates the whole way through. I felt like we had the gluten-free menu. The meat course, quail was the least inspired I felt, I wanted crunch, I wanted sauce, I wanted acid, I wanted layers! I wanted a carb! If you are going to roast a beautiful quail leg like a mini roast dinner, then give me more!
Great food! I had both the starter and mains specials which are on every weekend and they didn’t disappoint. Staff were efficient and friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed, will definitely return again and again!
Firstly, many thanks for hosting my wife’s 70th birthday party on Saturday 9 November.
Everyone that was present (32 people) was full of praise for the quality of the food, the service and the superb venue for such a party.
We cannot praise your restaurant highly enough.
Many thanks again and we will return.
Bell's Diner opened in St. Stephen Street, Stockbridge, Edinburgh in 1974, the same year my wife and I moved into Stockbridge. They served the best burgers I've ever tasted. And no sweetish American-style buns and slobbery 'mayo'. The wine list starts at £21 a bottle. We now live 20 miles away but travelled in to have our final Bell's meal last week as the restaurant will soon be closing down. So, probably too late now for folks to get a table. Sad news indeed.
What a brilliant place. Colin is a lovely host, very friendly, welcoming and helpful, both before and during our stay. Our room was spotless, very comfortable and breakfast was beautiful in presentation and taste. Such a shame we were staying for only one night, would definitely stay again. Thank you.
