Lotus Vegetarian Cuisine in Glasgow City

It's a really great place to eat. I do hope it can continue.

Although the staff was super friendly and kind, the food was very disappointing. I ordered spring rolls and tofu with schezwan sauce. Both were super oily. The spring rolls were good, but the tofu was bland and the sauce wasn't as thick as I imagined it would be, and it didn't have any flavours, it was just spicy and greasy. I'm only giving my opinion on these two particular items, so maybe there are better options in their menu.

I will recommend this place for all indians who love to taste vegetarian Chinese items . Here you can get item without garlic and onion..so a must go for any vegetarian...this is a hidden gem ...we liked pork crispy noodles and chicken satay...tasty indeed...superb amicable staff and service is also amazing...

I never tried any vegan restaurant before. Thought to try something different, but feel dicy about this restaurant. But my perception was wrong 🙂 food is really awesome. We really like the food. More important the cook cum owner is really polite. He make you comfortable and try to understand what exactly you like and suggest you the best. I really recommend this restaurant.

This is the only Asian vegetarian restaurant in Glasgow! The foods are so tasty and you can tell the efforts put into the foods. The BBQ seitan (vegetarian barbecue pork) is so soft inside but crispy outside, with some deep-fried rice noodles underneath, they absorb all the sauce from the vegetarian bbq pork, what a clever idea! Also, the restaurant owner is so friendly and he can remember his customers’ tastes so well if they are returned customers! The restaurant is so clean and bright as well. It’s joyful to have meals in the restaurant. I would highly recommend the restaurant to both vegetarians and non-vegetarians.

Genyinely not sure how Lotus gets such good reviews on here and other sites. Maybe the ownership or chef has changed. Whilst we cant say anything critical of the staff or service - all very friendly and accomodating - the food was so bland my partner and I actually thought we'd gone to the wrong place. Such a disappointment. As most of the other reviews are good, maybe we just went on a bad night.

Lovely staff and really delicious food. We'd had this place recommended to us a few times but it was closed for a while, so we were very excited to finally try it. It didn't disappoint! We had the mapo tofu and black bean trumpet mushrooms - highly recommend both

Went there on a Saturday night. Looks to be family run, and we were seated quickly. If you’re there for your regular order, it’s all there (but vegan) and if you want to try something new, there’s plenty of options to expand your palate. Staff were very attentive and the overall experience was very relaxed. Can’t recommend enough! Will definitely be back

One of the best Chinese restaurants in Glasgow, vegetarian or otherwise. Never thought I could enjoy such a range of dishes without any meat or seafood. The creativity, skill, and love that goes in to Lotus's meals are a privilege to experience and come very highly recommended

Excellent and fresh food, all vegan menu. We especially loved the homemade seitan, so tasty! The chef was so friendly and came over to ask us what kind of sauces we liked, so he could customise the dishes to our taste. Fantastic service, a nice quiet spot away from the hustle of the city.

Worst experience ever! Do not recommend. First I was asked a £2 cleaning fee to eat In. Shocked, but I still said ok. Second I was served food in plastic containers, plastic cutlery and no plates? Seriously. I was forced to leave the restaurant with food in a bag when I just wanted to have a relaxed meal seated in a restaurant. Paying extra to seat in a restaurant is shocking but the service was even worse. Not going back for sure.

Got a takeaway. Lovely seitan and tofu. Black bean sauce was delicious. Will definitely use again. Awesome to have a vegan restaurant like this.

One of my favourite places to eat in Glasgow. Everything on the menu is vegan and incredibly good value for money - we ordered about £20 worth of food per person and had SO much left over. It was all incredible and the meat replacements are super good, especially the seitan (although there’s also nice aubergine and mushroom dishes if you don’t like fake meat). The people who work there are so kind too! Our server (who I think was also cooking) was super friendly and sweet to us. Also willing to give suggestions and make things that are slightly different from what’s on the menu (switching sauces between dishes etc).

Lovely place! I don't eat onion or garlic and they cook everything without onion or garlic anyway, so this place is great for me. Also very friendly people and tasty food. One of the staff brought his baby granddaughter out to meet us. Mega cute baby.

So lecker! Warum gibt es das in Deutschland nicht? (Zumindest wüsste ich nicht wo). Super leckeres vegetarisches / veganes Essen und alle waren wirklich extrem freundlich. Weil ich mich nicht entscheiden konnte wurde mir auf das bestellte Essen noch einige Scheiben veggi-beef gelegt. (Vielen Dank nochmal!) Jedem Vegetarier der in Glasgow zu Besuch ist, möchte ich das Lotus empfehlen!

Best vegan Chinese food I have ever had- absolutely amazing!

Truly my most disappointing dining out meal EVER!! Freezing inside, took 2 hours to receiving food, rice was cold once food arrived, our table was served their food at different times, which meant 2 were finished eating when 2 haven’t even got their food. Food was nothing special and expensive for what it was. Sadly VERY DISAPPOINTING and will never go back!!

This is the first negative trip advisor review I have ever made but I feel it is important that people know to stay away. We arrived at 5pm to a freezing cold restaurant, and remained freezing throughout. We made staff aware and nothing was done. We were first in the restaurant (only 6 people) and all the meals arrived at different times, mine almost 2 hours after. They brought our meals out 20 mins after the bowl of rice, meaning it was cold when our food came. We asked for fresh rice and they brought the same rice out but just reheated, a huge no no! Half the party left before I got my meal as they had eaten and were so cold, they couldn't stay any longer. I requested fresh rice, not reheated, but only a single portion for me was brought rather than for the full party and so obviously thought serving reheated rice was acceptable. We complained to the owner who, only after we asked for a discount, said he would take the drinks off our bill (about £6 from a bill of over £100). The last 10 mins in the restaurant my stomach started to feel funny and as I was about to leave, I had to run to the bathroom where I was violently sick. As I have a fragile stomach, this happens when I have rice which has been reheated or hasn't been kept at a suitable temperature, only twice before in my life and I eat rice regularly. As this was happening the owner was arguing with my colleagues that it must have been something else that made me sick, said I still had to pay in full for my meal and came from the kitchen with a huge pan of rice, screaming that it was fresh!! It was by far the worst restaurant experience I've ever had and made me very ill. Any restaurant with an owner like this doesn't deserve a penny, I just feel bad for his waiting staff. I feel my experience merits a complaint to the food standards agency.

Most disappointing dining experience ever! Freezing cold inside. Food took nearly 2 hours to arrive. Rice was cold. Food was NOTHING to be excited about and expensive. Owner was so rude when complaint about long wait was made. Only to then give a10% discount. Soooo disappointing 😩and will never go back.

Been here a couple of times now. It's always totally excellent. The service is impeccable and the food is delicious. Everything is cooked fresh and you can tell. The staff are super friendly and the service is very quick. Can only talk about restaurant experience as I've never tried their take away food. Would recommend the salt and chilli tofu as it's brilliant!

The chef here believes in real/healthy food. The ingredients used are of top quality and the food is as if made by someone who really cares. Super delicious, varied and good quality food. Will definitely stop by here, everytime I visit Glasgow.

First class food from this place, freshly cooked to order. Dishes range from 'good' to 'best you've ever had'. Without a doubt one of the best places to eat in the city.

I have never written a review like this before, but I decided if anywhere deserves the effort it is Lotus. I have been a vegan for 5 years, and coming here for 3 of them. There isn't a resturant I like more. Don't let that fool you though, because I come here pretty much every few weeks with my very much meat eating Dad, and it's also his favourite resturant in the city. One thing I regret was waiting so long before I first came to Lotus. The photos on Trip Advisor frankly do not do the food justice. In practice, everytime I have been, the food has looked, smelled, and most importantly tasted, divine. I cannot reccomend it enough (the Satay "chicken" is my favourite). Go to Lotus. I only need to tell you to go once cause it'll be your new favourite afterwards.

A huge menu and very tasty food. This is a place we keep going back to. It is consistently good.

I went to Lotus at the end of October for a dinner with colleagues and it was honestly the best meal. There was 8 of us so we asked the waiter(or/ perhaps the owner?) To choose our meal for us. We ate a great deal from the menu which was fantastic. Everything was absolutely delicious and there was a great variety of textures and flavours in each dish. I cannot recommend Lotus enough, it's incredible. The restaurant itself is relaxed (not fancy in decoration or atmosphere), clean, simple and well run - the staff are extremely polite and welcoming. The restaurant is medium sized and non liscened but this was no issue as there's a great pub across the road. I think the prices were reasonable for the very high quality of food!

Had some incredible Chinese food here. Owner was very accomodating and helpful with my girlfriends order. Some really interesting dishes here that I've not seen elsewhere. Would highly recommend if you are a vegan/vegetarian.

My first visit to Lotus after years of hoping to visit, and after reopening post-covid I knew I had to go - I was not disappointed. Service was amazing and the young girl and man who served us were so friendly and accommodating. I had the sweet and sour vegan chicken which the sweet and sour sauce was so tasty and the vegan chicken was the perfect texture! My partner had the vegan beef in black bean sauce which he loved also, and the fried rice and salt and chilli chips were the perfect sides! Value for money was also great as portions were huge but as meals were not heavy and full of additives we managed them. I am already looking forward to my next visit here. Lotus is a must for all vegans as well as non-vegans living in or visiting Glasgow!

Amazing, recommend the satay ‘chicken’! Staff are absolutely lovely and such a nice interior.

We had the most delicious vegan Chinese meal here. The menu says vegetarian, but the whole menu is vegan. We ordered a selection of things and our favourites were the chicken and sweetcorn soup, tofu and black bean (salty but delicious!) and satay chicken. The chicken satay was our front runner. It was soya chunks that were in a chewy crispy coating and the most insane peanut free satay (apparently the traditional way of making it). This place is definitely worth a visit. The owner was really proud of his restaurant and rightly so. He went out of his way to make sure we were happy, told us about his process for making the food and he is conscious of the effect things like garlic and onion can have on the body and digestion so avoids using them.

This was my second visit here and both times the wee man who served us was so polite and friendly. The food is delicious, I got the black bean “pork” with rice and it was so good I asked to take the rest home. Happy that this place has opened back up as it’s a nice wee meal out if you’re looking for a good quality vegan Chinese.

Great Chinese vegan food and lovely attentive staff!

Being vegan , myself and my daughter were excited about trying Lotus; Glasgow for the first time but sadly disappointed when we booked and ate food on Sunday 20th June 2021.The place is small with basic chairs and tables but staff appeared friendly albeit busy trying to accommodate diners and those ordering take away; there was one waitress on the floor and it was Father’s Day and pretty active with orders. Prices were a little more expensive than I had expected for a place & location which is not city centre and it looks onto a road junction in a more run down part of Laurieston (£11-14 for main dishes), rice/chops /noodles were extra (£3-£4) but we expected good things so didn’t mind. Chicken( vegan) curry came as balls in a sauce with hardly any vegetables- I hadn’t expected balls and it didn’t say this on the menus but given it caters for vegetarians/ vegans it was disappointing and the taste was bland. We also ordered salt n chilli vegan chicken which was crunchy dry and spicy and it felt like eating puffs , again no side veg sprinkles of dry chilli flakes only .To say we were deflated is an understatement but we ordered another dish to take away to give benefit of the doubt … once again the vegan chicken came as big balls of soy ( doughy and not very nice ) sauce was a little nicer in takeaway- total bill £42. Not sure we will be back and sadly not overwhelming

No doubt the best vegan place I have ever been to. Excellent service and delicious food. I am not a vegan but the food is beyond my expectations! My personal favourite is the sweet and sour fried tofu (咕嚕素雞球) and the owner is constantly developing delicious new dishes! Never fail to impress :)

The food is amazing here. I have loved everything I’ve had. I started going here before I was vegetarian and now I’m trying to be vegan, it’s top of my list! The sweet and sour “chicken” balls are my favourite, also “non” prawn crackers are great too. Chinese was my favourite food when I ate meat but most Chinese restaurants aren’t accommodating to vegetarians so this place really stands out.

Amazing food and staff are fantastic

I had a meal here last night. After reading the reviews I was so excited but ended up a tad underwhelmed. I didn't realise beforehand but they don't serve alcohol, but this is not reflected in the stars, I was just a bit sad as I was out for my birthday, but fair enough. Anyway I ordered the fried dumpling and prawn toast for starters. They were both amazing, totally loved them, prawn toast a highlight as I've never had this before. For our mains we ordered tofu satay and crispy shredded salt and chilli chicken. We also ordered salt and pepper chips and rice. The staff were nice enough but a tad harassed feeling, as it was quite busy. The main meals came, the satay sauce was watery and I couldn't really taste any peanuts from it, a bit bland overall. The shredded chicken was a bit overdone, it was far too crispy like it had been cooked and then reheated. The salt and chilli chips were fine but I've had better elsewhere, usually you can taste a bit of Chinese five spice, but these just tasted salty and chilli, so also a bit bland. I think I would go back in a few months and try something else, as the starters were fab.

We have tofu curry, vegan spring roll and SzeChuan Seitan. Everything very delicious and very big portions. The Beansprout Chow Mein was amazing. The service is wonderful and very friendly.

Really lovely place, great to have so many options. Real mix bag of food, some was delicious, some we wouldn't order again. The salt and chilli chips and the "beef" in black bean sauce were the winning dishes could not of been better. But the sope and vegetable chow mein was not the greatest. Good portion sizes and reasonable prices I would definitely come back but probably I'll stick to the recreation meats as they seemed to have the best flavour.

Incredible! I live very near the Lotus which is deadly, as the great prices and quick service makes having takeout regularly all too easy! Eric the owner is a great guy, and all of the staff are really nice. Food is always out quick, and you feel like a valued customer -which should be a given but for a lot of places you feel like you're rushed out the door! Food is phenomenal also. The menu is massive so there's bound to be something you like. My family aren't vegan and I've taken them here a few times and they've always been really impressed

Popped by yesterday for a very quick meal before a gig with my partner. We'd nvver been before so didnt know what to expect. When we arrived I said that we were in a rush and needed to be out the door in 30-40 mins (I know, far to rushed and quite rude) but the staff were sooo accommodating and went over and above to serve us and get our food out fast. Couldn't be more grateful! The portion sizes were generous and tasted amazing, great value! We will definitely be back to enjoy a relaxed meal! P.s. Get the salt and chilli tofu!!!
