So very sorry to hear you're last night is tomorrow, fantastic mexican restaurant, great atmosphere, you'll be sadly missed. Good luck for all the staff going forwards xxx
Went in at 11 30 on a Monday, was seated immediately and given a menu. It was very slow, no more than 1 or 2 customers in the whole place. 10 minutes later I left after being totally ignored. If a restaurant has no interest in serving customers - why even open the doors?
This is by far, one of the best that I have tried ~ Irish Stew & Scones too. Tucked away on Upper Newtownards Road in East Belfast, The Lamppost Café is more than just a charming eatery—it’s a heartfelt tribute to Belfast-born author C.S. Lewis and his beloved Chronicles of Narnia. Just a short stroll from CS Lewis Square, the café immerses visitors in a whimsical, vintage atmosphere reminiscent of stepping through the wardrobe into Narnia.
Every detail inside The Lamppost Café pays homage to Lewis’s legacy. From antique crockery and Narnia-inspired artwork to a ragtime soundtrack, the ambiance transports guests to another era. Upstairs, the Writers’ Room offers a serene space modeled after Lewis’s own study, complete with bookshelves, chess boards, and cozy corners perfect for reading or reflection.
The café is renowned for its hearty, home-cooked meals, including traditional Irish stews, pies, and a variety of vegetarian and vegan options. It’s also dog-friendly, welcoming four-legged companions to join in the cozy experience.
In 2023, the café faced an unexpected challenge when its iconic lamppost—a symbol of its Narnian theme—was stolen. The community rallied in support, sharing the news widely in hopes of its return.
Whether you’re a literature enthusiast, a fan of cozy cafés, or simply seeking a unique spot to relax, The Lamppost Café offers a magical escape that celebrates the imagination and warmth of C.S. Lewis’s world.
Went here for a get together with our friends and our kids. We were cramped into a both after requesting a highchair upon booking. Service was slow to say the least, food was over done and did not depict the menu description. Our table had not been cleared for in time for the next course arriving and we had to remind staff on drink orders. Water and juice provided with out ice (small issue but matters on warm days). Will not be returning, overall cost for meal was not worth what we received.

Came here for a late lunch mid-afternoon, just as the market was closing. The first floor balcony overlooking the market was lovely, but we soon learnt that it was easy to be forgotten there.
After about 20 minutes I had to wave at a server inside before anyone would come to take a drinks order. Ordered the food when the drinks arrived, and then another long wait. Maybe it was a staff changeover or they were taking a break after the lunchtime peak, but everything was just too slow.
Saying that, the servers were really friendly and helpful and the food was very good. The bar and indoor seating areas are also very nicely appointed.
We paid the included service charge but maybe we shouldn’t have. Hoping for a better experience next time.

It is an holistic experience to dine in Cassidys.
The food is beautifully presented and served with love.
On opening the door into Cassidys, you are aware of a wholesome hospitality.
The authenticity of the establishment is an experience in itself

Always a real buzz in here, it's the hot spot of stranmillis undoubtedly. Perfect location too. Staff are friendly and attentive, the only issue is there's only one option for vegans as standard. If that doesn't appeal the staff are happy to make alterations to the dishes, but it's a bit inconvenient. The coffee is great though.
