5A in Belfast

Always a real buzz in here, it's the hot spot of stranmillis undoubtedly. Perfect location too. Staff are friendly and attentive, the only issue is there's only one option for vegans as standard. If that doesn't appeal the staff are happy to make alterations to the dishes, but it's a bit inconvenient. The coffee is great though.

Went in on the 13th April, emailed them later on that day to give them an opportunity to respond, but they ignored the email. I went in between 12 and 1, saw it was busy, was expecting to wait. We gave our name, were told to wait outside and would be called in when a table was ready. We went outside and took the stool seats, there was roughly 15 people outside, it was loud. We wait for roughly ten minutes, other people that came after us are taken in, we think we hear our name being called, my sister goes inside to find out, she is told off for not coming in when they shouted her name multiple times, when that was not the case, no name was heard, no name was shouted. We wait a further five minutes, then are told our option is to sit at the stools at the window beside the exit. We are given menus, asked would we like a drink, we say no, as we want to study the menu. Then they seat two women beside us, who had come in after us, so theres no space, I can't use my left arm as I would be elbowing someone. We wait for someone to take our order. Then they take the order of the women beside us, who came in after us, we wait again, still no one appoaches us. So we leave as we are being ignored. I used to be a waiter, I know what it is like to be busy but I don't expect to be ignored time and time again. The staff could tell we were annoyed but rather than apologise and be nice to us, and want to help us, they decided to ignore us.

Tasty pastries, friendly staff, and easily the best batch brew/ drip coffee in all of Belfast!

Really average coffee, very overpriced Latte and a tiny sausage roll that had to be binned for £10

Rip off. Coffee now £4 for a latte!! . Staff don't even tell you that it's extra for decaf and the coffee is extremely expensive. It was over £4 for a coffee which is ridiculous. I was inside to get a seat but no seats so I said i would do a take away..I was then told to go outside ad order from there ! This was not very pleasant as there was no one else waiting at the till inside. I decided then not to order and to leave. Very poor customer service

My favourite place, it's like coming home. Staff are wonderful and the food is great. Menu often has a special dish of the day, never fails to live up to expectations. Great place xxxx

Decided to call down and enjoy the lovely weather outside with two Cappuccinos and two buns. Would highly recommend, especially on a sunny day

Solid coffee shop with a variety of options and nice desserts. Very reasonable prices. Filter of the day was not very interesting, but well made.

The barista here USED HER BARE HAND to clean the bloody steam wand before steaming my oat milk!!!!! Beyond unappealing, to add insult to injury, the staff are shockingly arrogant and unfriendly.

I had a lovely avocado sweetcorn fritters (open sandwich) with fresh lemon juice. I loved how the food was presented. I would say this is a little gem.... Or perhaps i should keep quiet about this lovely hidden treasure🤫 Sorry no photo. I couldn't wait to dig my fork in it.

Food came out quickly and was delicious, staff were really polite and helpful. Quite busy but we happily waited for a seat and were not disappointed. Coffee was INCREDIBLE.

Great friendly service. Lovely atmosphere. Great coffee. Waffles and chicken wasn’t the best, way too sweet and chicken tasted like 2 frozen chicken nuggets rather than a tasty piece of fried chicken that I expected. Will definitely be back, but will choose something else.

Really enjoyed breakfast at this little cafe. Great menu for all with vegetarian and vegan options. Reasonable prices and good service however it was busy. I had a 10 minute wait for a table which I suppose is a good sign. Great location right on a walkway of the River Lagan. Highly recommended 👍

The Brunch menu on the website didn't work for me before I went, but the menu on site was fine. Food was good and came out quickly after being ordered, service was ok but could be a bit more attentive. Get some sweeteners in please :-)

Intense flat white. Roasted a bit deep but there’s still a little fresh fruitiness. The wooden interior is spacious and cozy. The brunch items look delicious. Pity I had breakfast and have lunch plans. But I did had a mysterious PBB to go— little bombs of peanut butter :>

Tasty food but portions a bit on the small side

Really busy for a wednesday afternoon. Hot chocolate was beaut on such a cold morning. Food was delicious. Had the breakfast bap. Staff member serving was really helpful and efficient. Kitchen staff were really friendly interacting with the baby at the table.

Quesed up at the service window and got a hot chocolate , blondie, and a salted caramel brownie. Great tasty treats are worth a visit .

A hidden gem, Top notch carrot cake and lovely fresh coffee

I have been going to 5a for coffee for years but never ate in it until today. Sorry to say I was very unimpressed. I hate a table being cleaned by someone just sweeping the mess on to your chair, before you have even sat down then you have to clean the chair yourself. Also I ordered water. They brought a bottle with 2 used and very dirty glasses. This was a put off but thought ok its lunch time and it's an oversight. I asked the girl to replace them. She said OK, but never came back with any new glasses. Food came out and I was given dirty cutlery with food bits crusted on to the knife. I had those replaced. We had the chicken waffles and the granola. The waffles were absolutely swimming in maple syrup which was very sickening and inedible. Maybe I should have asked for it on the side but it was really far too much on the dish. My granola had a hair in it. I didn't complain, we just left. I was with my daughter so just felt that from the start it was a disaster. Was disappointing because we were really hungry and left it all. They lost me after the dirty glasses and cutlery. Expected much more..

I had the pleasure of dining at 5a Cafe in Stranmillis, and it was a truly delightful experience. I decided to try their Special Eggs on Sourdough, and I must say, it was a culinary masterpiece! The dish was expertly prepared, with a perfect balance of acidity and fat that left my taste buds dancing with joy. The tangy notes from the sourdough bread harmonized beautifully with the richness of the eggs. It was a satisfying and wholesome meal that left me feeling restored and content. The attention to detail and the thoughtful combination of flavors truly made this dish stand out. It's evident that the chefs at 5a Cafe take pride in their craft, as each bite was a delightful revelation. Aside from the exceptional food, the cafe's ambiance was cozy and inviting, providing a relaxed and pleasant setting to enjoy the meal.

I have been a huge fan of general merchants for years and this was my first visit to 5a. Sitting outside (not takeaway, just outside on their seats!) the meal is delivered in a cardboard box. With cardboard cutlery. Cardboard cups. Not only is this a huge environmental waste, it makes this feel like a very very overpriced meal. I don’t really want to eat eggs out of a box. Who thought up this policy? Bizarre! Very disappointed

Great spot for a coffee or quick lunch, small menu which is always well prepared and there is something for everyone. The staff are friendly and attentive and managed to get us squeezed in even when they were very busy. Usually has a queue outside it but never had to wait more than 10min. Would recommend.

Visited here with my daughter for a quick lunch. Good soup with sour dough bread. My daughter had the waffles with chicken. Good coffee. Staff were friendly and service was quick. Very clean and spacious wash room.

Good selection of food at acceptable prices. Has a studenty feel ( near to college ) Can eat inside and out and takeaway facilities. Busy times may have parking difficulties

I visited with my daughter and ot was busy. The service was good however the food was mediocre, tasteless and overpriced.I have definitely been to nicer places and tasted better food elsewhere so i wouldn't recommend this place and i certainly don't understand the hype about it because i sure didnt experience anything special.

Elvis toast absolutely a unique and lovely dish. Also husband enjoyed the Reuben sandwich

Nice coffee and snacks and worth a visit

Ordered the Reuben, a toastd sourdough hot sandwich with pastrami, sauerkraut, Emmental cheese and Russian dressing. Has got to be best sandwich in Belfast right now. My dining partner chose the home made waffles with bacon, maple syrup and two poached eggs. Every item cooked perfectly. With two delicious cappuccinos, and friendly service from start to finish, 5A is a local treasure. We paid £25 for the sandwich, waffles, extra eggs and cappuccinos.

An intimate relaxing atmosphere with a large covered outdoor area providing a lot more seats and tables. The food was nice and staff very pleasant and helpful.

Overall good, small amount of meat in the chicken waffles was dissapointing and the batter was rock hard. The crumble cheesecakes however were PHENOMENAL!

Terrible coffee shop ! Inexperience staff kept me waiting for half an hour and telling me we forgot your order and asked me do you still want your order? Never ever step in this place

10/10 for food and coffee!! My experience was made even better with the outdoor seating area. My friend (highly terrified) was asked to hold an American bulldog on its lead while their owner went in to order their food. Let’s just say it was like a day at the petting farm!

Great service, friendly staff, "village feel" location. Probably the best coffee shop/cafe in Belfast. Worth going out of your way to experience it.

The staff were extremely friendly when I visited & when I managed to leave some important documents in their bathroom, they phoned me & immediately sent them to me (Scotland) free of charge. Couldn’t have asked for a more accommodating or lovely reaction. Thank you guys! X

Nice little cafe in stranmillis area, they have yummy small selection of food so they are always busy especially in the weekends. Recently, they renovated their space so more tables inside. If you are exploring Belfast you can grab a cup of coffee from here and enjoy it while walking by the river lagan down the street.

This is my favourite coffee shop. I walk the tow path and back from Shaw's bridge and break my walk with a coffee and a croissants. Sort of defeats the purpose but I enjoy it anyway.

Outside only. Hard to see/chose items to consume with coffee. Rather expensive. Frankly disappointed - perhaps 2* would be better score.

This is such a handy local coffee shop, with really friendly workers, fantastic food and spectacular coffee.

The Elvis is amazing. Good coffee too. Non-reusable cutlery and plates though even when eating in which is a shame

NOT BABY FRIENDLY: After buying lunch wouldn't even let us use there toilets to change our babys dirty nappy suggesting we use the public one a 25 min walk away.

☕️🍳 5A serves up some delicious coffee and food. Last time I got ‘The Cure’ - would definitely recommend going for that. There’s limited sitting space so keep your car close by or take your food to the boarded sitting area near the Lagan (go past the Rowing club). 🚗 Getting parked directly beside 5A is quite tough. If it’s good weather I’d say you are best driving all the way to the end of road until you hit the car park and then walk back on yourself.

We shared the delicious Californian, foccacia with chicken, spinach, sundried tomatoes and aioli followed by the divine carrot cake and iced coffee. Always great service, thank you 😊.

Nice coffee shop with a relaxing atmosphere in Belfast, near Stranmillis. They serve lovely coffee and have a good hot food menu. There's a large paved area beside the shop to enjoy your coffee and snack. It's open from 8am and located in a quiet area that has a village feeling.
