Temple Restaurant in Belfast

EDIT sorry but your 5 stars got knocked down to 1 after we booked a table for Sunday lunch - when booking the person dealing was really lovely. That unfortunately is where things peaked. We got ready and came down hungry and excited. No table available for us. No booking. Eventually a clearly annoyed waitress grudgingly offered a table upstairs. Despite me saying I'd ordered one ground floor due to mobility stais to be avoided. Shows the messages. We left. They did try to contact us a bit after we left and layer messaged apologising and offering free meal but the damage was done. It's actually really upsetting to look forward to a treat and hold off meds to be taken after food and get ready with excited child to be gaslit about whether I'd actually booked and no table round then made to know I'm def a big inconvenience. Was upsetting for the child. Wasn't expecting it at all but not been back since and prob won't be. I'll not be missed as was packed out with people lucky enough to get a table! First time visiting but definitely won't be the last! We had prawn cocktail & cheesy garlic bread starters. Garlic bread was really lovely, I tried a bit and think ill get it next time. Non greasy, tasty and bread was fab. Prawn cocktail was tasty, fresh prawns and loads of them. The bread it was set on was really lovely too. Battered cod & baked salmon for mains. Cod was cooked perfectly. Salmon was amazing. Tasty, cooked perfectly too - and a huge portion! Didn't try the chips but the looked great & they all went! I had champ, again very tasty. We got s side of onion rings - the nicest I've had in long time. That's how onion rings used to be! Batter was perfect. Crisp and tasty. No matter what I have next time I'll be ordering those again. Drinks variet was decent and a good cocktail menu. French martini was not v strong but was delicious. I loved it! Strawberry daiquiri nice too. Sauvignon blanc was fresh and came promptly and nicely chilled. Fully intended to have pudding but we were both so full up we had to go home and enjoy our food coma. Staff were friendly, attentive and warm. Genuinely cared. Really nice atmosphere in restaurant. Already lots seated when we arrived at 5pm (early, but were were so hungry) and the tables were being treated with the same standard. Seemed a lot of repeat customers, and I can see why. Long review but it was deserved. Thank you Team Temple Ps photos don't even do it justice. Edit: I went back. Just as nice. Staff were lovely and remembered me, and what I ordered! Scampi great. Carbonara great. I think you get the gist lol

Always wonderful and have been going there for years. Colette is so lovely, she couldn't have done more and the kids loved her.

Lovely food and friendly staff great value for money

This place was packed when we arrived and continued to be busy. Staff definitely under pressure with so many customers. Food is basic nothing to shout about. The smell of food lingers in the air and clings to your clothes. You won't get drunk here as getting service for another drink was impossible. Wouldn't rush back.

We always have a good time dining here and the staff are friendly and very helpful. You can also take away.

Temple is a very warm, homely and friendly restaurant. You are met by staff on walking in and there is a good atmosphere. Staff and food are excellent, you can bring your own wine and Paul the owner is always close by to ensure the service and meal go well. Will always return. Thank you.

I would usually give this a 5 out of 5 in the past but today was the first I had been here I in a while and I got a take-out. Unf I didn't like what I ordered and didn't expect it to be how it came. I wouldn't order that food again. But in saying that of all the times I have been eating from here today was the first time that I didn't like the food at all. So maybe it was a one off. Ne t time I would order something I've had before.

Can't fault the food, staff or atmosphere. Very reasonably priced and generous portions. Unfortunately, the Guinness "pint" is from a can and not draught, so that's a 4 out of 5 for me.

I have been to the temple a lot since I was younger, the food used to be good consistently. Recently it has unfortunately gone downhill, the most recent time being the worst. The garlic potatoes were hard and the lasagne was luke warm in the centre. My partner got a chicken burger which was burned. My chicken wing starter was great but the lasagne nation let it down. No-one working there seemed to even speak to the customers apart from to take their order (not even one check that things were ok) and we nearly got overcharged for another adult 3 course when leaving. A lot of good competition in the area now and I think temple would need to up their game to keep their customers who have been loyal to them.

I'm sorry to say we were really disappointed with the food today. The starter's were good, hence the 3 stars but the mains and dessert were not. The lasagne was just veering on warm, should've been hot and the lasagne itself lacked pasta layers. The sauté potatoes were not freshly made, they were horrible and none of us are them. The chicken fillet burger was overcooked, a small piece of it, a very small piece, was edible but any attempt at eating the rest would've created a very large dental bill. The apple crumble and custard lacked a balance between apple and custard, very little custard, the crumble needed cooking and browning. The restaurant was very quiet so noone was under any pressure, we can't even use that as an excuse. Won't be making any recommendations here and don't think we'll be back

Great food and service! Lovely atmosphere, never disappoints!

Four of us had Sunday lunch starters were very good and the service was very good. Three of us had good mains but myself didn't!! I ordered a sirloin steak med/rare, it was very hard to cut it even though I was given a steak knife so for that reason I wouldn't go back. The dog got a nice treet.

Just finished an afternoon lunch in the Temple restaurant, quality! Pros, Pricing, a very affordable menu. The food was beautiful, we had the Fish, Steak & Guinness pie amongst others and every plate was beautiful, fresh, hot and very well received. The staff were very attentive, considerate, understanding. If I had one piece of feedback, it was the volume of the 'background music', it felt more foreground music. It is my only slight hiccup, the seating ssd comfortable, the decor and layout is really artistic yet cosy. Will we return, most definitely and we look forward to it.

Love Temple. The food is always excellent and the staff are lovely and very helpful. They were understaffed the night we were in but that didn't stop the staff who were working from doing all they could. The only downside is the smell of food when you leave lingers on your clothes. This is the only negative I have if your heading on somewhere after

Food was amazing, kids portions were bigger than expected, friendly staff with parking to the rear which was a plus.

Once again had a delicious meal in the temple. Staff are so friendly the best on the road. Highly recommend it

Every time I visit Belfast I make a stop to Temple before heading home. The food is superb for a great price. Can’t recommend enough!

Everything very tasty, especially chowder

Top quality food, service and affordable prices. We tried the tempura, soup and garlic starters and chicken burger, roast beef and red Thai curry. All fantastic. Will return.

Not for me but quiet a large number of people dining when I was there. Menu is OK but nothing to get excited about. Was charged a service fee that I don't agree with. Bring your own wine think corkage fee applies. Won't rush back.

Excellent. First time I've been in a while. Friendly staff. Quick service. Can bring own wine for small charge. Caesar salad a bit disappointing. Scampi delicious. Rest of a big group all loved their food. Recommend the chicken wings and ribs. Only downside is toilets downstairs. Would recommend.

An absolute favourite for our family get togethers. The extensive menu caters for a wide range of tastes. Each plate of food in our company was judged as of the highest quality. All credit to the chef and kitchen staff The service from the waiting staff was akin to any Michelin restaurant.

Food needs to improve greatly. Dinwrs who got pie n mash loved it but mine was lasagne n chips. Not good, no taste.

Went for are Sunday dinner ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS THE PORTIONS ARE SO BIG FROM STARTER TO DESSERTS .I HAD THE TURKEY AND HAM WITH GARLIC SUET POTATO AND VEG DINNER. HE HAD THE GUINNESS'S PIE I WITH CREAM POTATO AND VEG THE CRUST ON THE PIE WAS CRUCHY AND FILLED TO THE TOP WE HAD THE WHITE HOUSE WINE AND JAM SPONGE AND CUSTARD I HAD CHOCOLATE SUNDAY THE STAFF WERE SO QUICK AND HELPFUL IN ANY WAY YOU NEEDED SO A BIG THANK YOU FOR A BEAUTIFUL RELAXING COSY MEAL NOW AM AWAY TO LAY DOWN FULL,,

Went tonight, there was 18 of us. Food was great the waiting staff were brilliant. Very attentive. A wee wait for our food but expected but will return again.

A lovely restaurant with very good quality food with warm and friendly atmosphere. Service always good; they care and always try their best even when they are slightly under staffed. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for a cosy place where you can spend good time with friends. Love the scampi and my friends always praise chicken tempura. Also very good coffee 👍

Very 80's/90's menu. Others enjoyed their Ceasar Salads but my my fish and chips was a 'no'. The fish was incredibly thin with a 'damp' batter. The chips were in a tiny little ramekin sized server. They were about a centimetre long. At least they were hot!

My Friend & I went to the Temple for lunch. We were quickly show to a lovely table by the window. Louise ( I hope I have the name right!) our Waitress who was amazing quickly brought us menus and started us with drink. I had the roast beef which was melt in your mouth delicious. My friend had the steak & Guinness pie which she said was lovely. We were too full for desert but asked for tea. Louise brought us out a huge teapot of lovely strong tea. All in all a lovely experience. I would throughly recommend a visit and we will be back.
