This is by far, one of the best that I have tried ~ Irish Stew & Scones too. Tucked away on Upper Newtownards Road in East Belfast, The Lamppost Café is more than just a charming eatery—it’s a heartfelt tribute to Belfast-born author C.S. Lewis and his beloved Chronicles of Narnia. Just a short stroll from CS Lewis Square, the café immerses visitors in a whimsical, vintage atmosphere reminiscent of stepping through the wardrobe into Narnia. Every detail inside The Lamppost Café pays homage to Lewis’s legacy. From antique crockery and Narnia-inspired artwork to a ragtime soundtrack, the ambiance transports guests to another era. Upstairs, the Writers’ Room offers a serene space modeled after Lewis’s own study, complete with bookshelves, chess boards, and cozy corners perfect for reading or reflection. The café is renowned for its hearty, home-cooked meals, including traditional Irish stews, pies, and a variety of vegetarian and vegan options. Hearty breakfasts and stews that are full of flavour. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. Friendly staff and great overall experience. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a warm meal in a charming setting!

Quirky cafe with delicious breakfast

Llegamos hoy (14 de marzo) a las 11. 40 am con dos perros pequeños. Había dos mesas libres, una pequeña de dos asientos y una de cuatro asientos con una mesa más grande. Nos mostraron a la mesa más pequeña, que estaba muy aplastado con los dos perros. Le preguntamos a la chica si sería posible pasar a la mesa más grande, ya que estábamos muy doblados. Nos dimos cuenta de que un hombre detrás de nosotros estaba sentado por su cuenta en una mesa redonda cuatro. La chica puso su índice para indicar 'espera'. Esperamos y esperamos y esperamos y ella no volvió a decirnos si era posible o no. En realidad fue bastante insultante, ya que nos quedamos sentados sin comunicación de nadie. Nosotros, en este punto, decidimos ir a otro perro - cafetería amigable. Cuando nos íbamos, un tipo (con gorro y auriculares) nos siguió hasta la puerta para averiguar qué pasaba. Traté de explicar pero él intervino y dijo que la chica había tenido una conversación con nosotros, le aseguré que no lo hizo. Mencioné sobre el hombre sentado en la mesa redonda de cuatro asientos y me dijo que ese hombre era un lugareño. Nos sentimos muy decepcionados con cómo nos trataron, hemos estado en la farola antes, y tenemos que ser honestos y decir que hemos disfrutado mucho de nuestras experiencias, la comida encantadora y la gran interacción del personal. ¿Regresaríamos? Posiblemente. Justo hoy fue tan decepcionante como habíamos estado en la playa y pensamos que era un final ideal para nuestro paseo.

Llamados el sábado 11 am fueron recibidos por personal amable y sentados Menú de desayuno muy bueno Opciones veganas disponibles Elegí la clásica tostada francesa que estaba deliciosa 😋 y una olla de té También tuvimos el refresco relleno esto fue excelente 😋 y la tostada francesa vegana también excelente 5 * recomendaría altamente La decoración es muy agradable y al hablar con el personal, se aconsejó que la propiedad también está disponible para funciones privadas, que debo decir que sería perfecto para una boda o celebración 🍾 Este café también es Dog friendly 👍 Brillante todo alrededor, sin duda volveré. Went in with my friend. She's vegan and the variety of options for her was amazing. I had some of hers, and if all vegan food tasted that good then I would go vegan too. But if that was the case I wouldn't have been able to enjoy my lamppost fry which was delicious. The staff were really lovely too. Very friendly and welcoming. The decor was nice and the coffee was unreal. Highly recommend this place. Will for sure go back.

We were really missing the lovely food, atmosphere & people from 'Panama' so decided to pop in to The Lamppost on our way to return our hire car. Fantastic vegan fry, beautiful Narnia-themed atmosphere. Well worth the visit, just wish you lovely people were still in the city centre. Hope to be back soon.

Very cosy neighbourhood cafe. Had the Armstong Family Stew, which absolutely hit the spot. Atmosphere is warm and welcoming (they went all out on Christmas decorations!) Service is grand, friendly and fast.

What a happy place! I loved the interior design, which makes this cafe so cosy. My poached egg avocado toast and the blueberry lemon scone were delicious. We also can recommend the dirty chai Latte :-) We will definitely come back.

This used to be my favourite place to eat out and in but it's gone downhill. Very little choice now for vegans or vegetarians. The prices are extremely high and not value for money plus got served food with out of date sauces today. Not good enough certainly will not be recommending to anyone. Such a shame.

This is a lovely C. S LEWIS cafe, it theme is the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe. It just magical. The food is excellent and coffee is good. I would highly recommend this it just ticks all the right boxes for me. It's also do friendly.

very expensive for the service you receive. Uninterested staff. No check backs and extremely slow. Food is ok although portion size small. Felt like the staff didn't really want to be there. For the price you pay its should be much more of an experience.

Disappointed to say that the newly "refurbished" Lamppost has lost a lot of it's charm. The menu is not as nice and much less extensive, they no longer serve alcohol, and they have shorter opening hours. These factors mean I won't be back - loved the previous cafe very much but these changes are for the worse.

Really lovely, quirky cafe. Food is good, excellent tray bakes and scones and the coffee is very good. Staff are all friendly and attentive. The cafe is dog friendly which is always going to get it an extra star from me! It is relatively small, but feels like an intimate space where you can relax and enjoy your sustenance.

C.S Lewis inspired cafe. Fantastic decor in a converted home. There is seating indoors on the ground floor next to the kitchen as well as upstairs and outside. The seats and tables are each individual. Along with the eating and drinking utensils. Portions are not the biggest however, the food was rather tasty and they had a nice personal spin to it which was refreshing.

Very enjoyable experience at this quirky little restaurant decked out in CS Lewis paraphernalia. Lovely staff and good quality food and coffee. Love that it's dog friendly.

Tried today as it was dog friendly. It was a lovely atmosphere, and very relaxing for us and our pup. Staff were all lovely and the food & coffee was great too! Will definitely be back 😄

We won’t be back. Service was terrible. A Staff member was rude. There is s no booking but a table was reserved for ‘afternoon tea’ at 10am. Two of our party of 4 made the staff member aware of mobility issues but we were offered a table upstairs rather than vacant downstairs table. On our way out we saw the reserved tables was occupied by people having breakfast. Very disappointing to be given false story. Upstairs was cold and our food was warm not hot. The food was very tasty. No return by staff to see if everything was ok, so we didn’t stay for a second coffee as is our usual after breakfast. Very disappointed as this could have become a regular place for us. Try if you have a thick skin, a warm coat and can manage steep stairs easily.

If you love, CS Lewis and Irish breakfast, you’ll love going here. The dirty chai was delish too. 10/10.

I have visited this lovely cafe with my sister on our trip to Belfast. Since the moment we stepped in we loved it! The atmosphere is amazing, the staff is very kind and attentive and food was superb! I had the lamppost fry up and my sister had the avocado and poached egg on sourdough bread and let me tell you, we demolished it. There is plenty of little touches that make the cafe homely and comfortable and as a dog lover myself I loved seeing all the little furry friends in there too. Definitely recommend and I know we will be going back for sure!

Fantastic spot for breakfast, thoroughly enjoyed our visit, the food was excellent, my boyfriend had the poached eggs with avocado and he raved about it. The staff were so friendly. The next time we are in Belfast we will be back.

Great place after a long walk. The best puppichino in town. Biscuits sprinkled over the top and I managed to scrounge some bacon off the humans at the next table. Would recommend for a casual lunch with friends or a blind date......better than casual encounters in the park. Excellent service. Brilliant dog-friendly staff. Dexter x

Very nice, calm atmosphere. I had coffee and scones for breakfast and everything was simply amazing. They have a nice patio at the back and also another seating area upstairs. they are against smoking so they don’t even have an ashtray outside in front of the cafe, so maybe bring your own.

Myself and my daughter Karmen on her day's of work we would go to the Lamppost for a meal. The food is so yummy I could eat more. The staff are BRILLIANT 👌. They are so lovely and very kind. The food is to die for. I am hopeing to go in next week,when my daughter is not working that day. We will be seeing you all very soon 🔜 I tell you all now go into the Lamppost and try their food. We have visited this cafe on 3 occasions and loved the food! Nathanael and his team offered top notch customer service They were always smiling and we’re very kind to us! My family and I are from Rochester NY and went to Belfast recently and out of all of the other cafes in Belfast this one checked all of the boxes. Nathanael was very charming and answered many of our dumb questions about the menu !

Beautiful Café. The decor is wonderful especially if you are a Narnia and C.S. Lewis fan. The food was delicious and the service exceptional.

Had a lovely catch up with a friend here today. We were greeted immediately on arrival and shown to a seat. The staff working were polite and friendly and our order was taken quickly. Food was delicious and good quality and I will definitely be back.

What an absolutely fabulous café , have been in multiple times for breakfast once for dinner, unique décor, very friendly staff, excellent service and delicious food and an added extra it's dog friendly so can bring the pup, would highly recommended as one of the best cafes in Belfast.

Couple of friends suggested me to eat at The Lamppost Cafe during my trip in Belfast. I had a very good Chicken Caesar open sandwich with soup and finished with an excellent cappuccino. Nice and very friendly staff! Highly recommended. There is free parking across the street

Well we came across this absolute gem of a place . The ambience and decor was incredible. The service was warm and friendly and the food absolutely delicious . Just a 5 minute ride out of the city in a bus or cab . The place was the best we had in Antrim and we will certainly return. Just wow Chris&Donna Isle of Man

The Lamppost Cafe has another branch in Linen Hall, Belfast! The menu remains the same, with their signature yummy egg and avocado dish. The staff are even friendlier and make for a delightful visit. Highly recommend treating yourself here. The ground floor for dogs while the second one for people want to be away from dogs. I like to see dogs all the times!

Had a splendid experience having afternoon tea on the top floor of the venue. Have always loved the quaintness of The Lamppost Cafe so much so that I wanted to share my birthday celebrations with friends & family here. This pretty CS Lewis inspired café in east Belfast is a treasure trove of vintage crockery, quirky Narnia-themed artwork and with its perfectly pitched playlist, is a delightfully cosy family run affair offering fabulous food, coffee, tea and delicious tray-bakes all using local produce and suppliers. The Lamppost is now open on Friday and Saturday evenings with a brand new menu featuring a great selection of large and small dishes with suggested wine pairing, and some great vegetarian and vegan options, so we were delighted to have been invited down to be one of the first to try out the new menu. We began with a gorgeous Mackerel Rillette with watercress, cucumber pickle, and toasted sourdough, a Tempura Oyster Mushroom with maple glaze, kimchi bean sprouts, and an incredible gochujang mayo, and Grilled Asparagus with harissa yogurt, dill and toasted almonds, all of which were perfect sharing starters. To follow, the Mussels with Orzo, leeks, peas and saffron cream were fresh and bursting with flavour, and the Lentil Dahl with miso tofu and crispy onions with triangles of pitta bread for dipping was one of the tastiest vegan dishes we’d had in quite a while, accompanied by some steamed Asian Greens in sesame and ginger. To finish we had a light yet luscious Lemon Roulade with fresh fruit and vanilla cream, and some vegan cheese, a plant based, spirulina blue-veined wedge of Cashew Blue from Nourish Good Food, with crackers and Irish Black Butter. All washed down with an excellent bottle of Porta 6, and some great cocktails, this is a terrific new menu. This is a great local independent cafe , family owned , serving lovely home made food . A doggie friendly cosy atmosphere with fairytale interiors. Now open on Saturday night also !

Amazing food and really helpful and nice staff. It has a great vibe, full of lots of little trinkets and the place is spotlessly clean. My favourite cafe in Belfast. My recommendation is the poached eggs, with avocado on sourdough, sprinkled with feta, walnuts and chilli flakes! Drool!

My first time in The Lamppost and found it charming and friendly with excellent service and delicious food. The layout and stairs may make it less accessible for people with mobility issues but this did not apply to our group. The red toilet seat indicated a dementia friendly establishment.

This place has such an old English vibe! With teapots, paintings and florals everywhere, it really felt cozy and warm. The food was above average in quality and taste. However, the quantity can be slightly more. The afternoon tea menu looked nice so will probably try that next time. But overall, it's a great place.

We had the best experience, we were able to bring out dog and have a lovely brunch. The two guys who own it were so great, very friendly and welcoming. They made a big fuss over our dog and he was treated as well as (if not better haha) a paying customer. This was such a lovely experience, we had the the French toast and my partner had the stew. Will definitely be back!
