Had a couple of meals from Kirkgate Chippy now… (not local, but do treat myself to a chippy when tramping in Tad)… every item I’ve had has been delicious… went all out this time for the fish and chips. There was not a regular sized fish at the time available but were only too happy to serve me a large, (charged at the same price) which I really appreciated, they also had a deal for a free pot of mushy peas. I’ve been to some good chippys over the years but the fish from Kirkgate is by far the best I’ve had! The batter and fish itself was perfect, normally I love a bit of tartar sauce on the fish but didn’t have any nor was there a need! The service from the staff is always a nice experience, with a warm welcome and a friendly vibe. I look to future visits when in the town. 👍🏼

Was looking forward to my fish n chips from Barlby. Found it closed when I visited even though their website said it would be open. Got home n phoned them, Eagle Fisheries at Castleford answered, was told they had closed down Barlby at the end of September 😮 When I said the website hadn't been updated I was told it wasn't their problem, they only worked for Eaglescliffe.

Lovely food and a lovely atmosphere. Felt very welcomed by the man behind the bar. The food was delcious. We could not fault it. We had the fish and chips and the gammon both excellent. Great find on our doorstep will definitely be back.

Very glad to post the pub has new owners who are great, the last landlord was not good, the villagers are over the moon with the new owners and wish them well.

I've been going here for 30 years. The fantastic food never fails to impress. I have moved away from Tadcaster but still travel miles to get my fix. 👍👍

Update 30/07/2024 - again closed at 1230 when the opening hours suggest it should be open. No idea what’s going on but I’m fed up of walking there to get coffee and it being closed. I don’t think I’ll bother again. Previous review: Really like coming for coffee here - I’d argue that their coffee is the best in Selby and the food is equally excellent. However, the last four times I’ve been with the intention of getting coffee they’ve been closed when they would normally be open with no notice to explain why, so I’ve no idea what’s going on or whether the opening days/hours have changed.

Service was absolutely shocking. Food was sub par. Awful music playing, far too loud. Won't be going again.

Went today (Sunday) had a beautiful meal. Staff all very friendly and the food was delicious. Will be back again :)

My Grandaughter took me here for a Sunday lunch,we had small portions and it was lovely,tables not too close to others,and staff were lovely.We had a look round outside,and such a good selection of plants.Would recommend Fields Garden Centre

A really lovely village pub. Friendly, great atmosphere, lots of community events organised 😍

New tenant in situ. Atmosphere is much improved and more welcoming. Food now available - decent pub styled food choices without any frills. Prices as expected. Beer choices are good with excellent draught beer (Farmers Blonde and Timothy Taylor) plus a myriad of lagers. Quiz night on Sundays. A really pleasant local. Worth a visit.
