Called in to The Jug Inn at Chapel Haddlesey, I had not been in here for 35 years so it felt a little nostalgic for myself and my wife. It is a delightful pub with a small outside play area for kids. The new hosts Dave and Louise said they had only been in the Jug for three weeks and are new to the area. What an impression they have made, the Guinness was brill as was the wife's the Pino wine. I had the home made chicken leek and ham pie with chips and veg, the wife ordered the chicken in a basket with chips, the chicken are in a crispy coating of the jugs own recipe. Both meals were very very nice and ample portions, we will definitely be back shortly to sample more home made foods, The pub is decorated well and is well worth visiting. Well done to the new hosts and keep up the good work.

Claire and I visited the Jug 2nd October 2022 and it was excellent. We visit the pub from time to time and its on our list of ‘good places to go’ We wanted somewhere for good homemade food and called to book the day before as we knew they got busy. On arrival the landlord was as polite as usual offering us a choice of tables and eased us into drinks and a relaxing choice of food. The Sunday lunch is well portioned, great quality and the price is just amazing. We actually talked to the landlord as we felt they should charge more for the quality they provide. The response was that they value their customers more then their margin - what can you say! Superb! Simply excellent approach and customer service values See you soon Thank you Rich and Claire x

From the minute we arrived at this lovely quaint pub we were made to feel like nothing was too much trouble. We ordered food and were told that it was all cooked from scratch so could be around a 30 minute wait. It was worth the wait! It was delicious! We were staying at and Airbnb about 30 minute walk away so I asked the owner how easy it was to get a taxi. Without hesitation, he told us that he would give us a lift back as it was no bother and it's just what they do! Thank you so much Mick. We are still blown away by your amazing generosity and would really hope to visit again one day. Thanks.

We booked 6 nights on this campsite running at the back of the pub. We paid £90 in total for EHU only , no water or waste disposal. Lovely area overlooking the river, well maintained. Two nights running l went into the pub and had a beer, BIG WARNING BEWARE Landlord wants to run his site happily charging £15 per night but offers minimal facilities, which we knew and it was our choice however he is wanting his £15 per night and expects you to eat and drink in the pub. I found this out to my cost when l used the toilet and was followed by him stating here’s your money I want you gone in the morning. It is our opinion that he is totally greedy, unprofessional lacking in any social skills and obviously to say we will not be back and would not recommend to anyone.

On social media - the pub advertised a firework display from 06.30 onwards. So my wife & i decided to walk the 2 miles 'round trip' [ i don't drink & drive] for the appointed time. Having arrived at the Jug- decided to get a couple of drinks, - 1/2 a lager, & a gin & tonic with ice & lemon - nothing fancy - just a basic drink order. When the bar staff [ husband] of the land lady came with the price of £10.00 - i queried it - he answered that he had knocked 10p off the price- whooppee do !i . Now, not having had this drink combination for a while - and although i questioned the price - perhaps it was correct ? - but - the more i thought about it, i could not work out the prices for a single g & t and 1/2 a basic lager [could have been Fosters - my wife said she thought it was a Fosters glass]. Anyway, i went outside - bought some Pie & peas £3.50 and Hot Dog £2.50, where the landlady was serving. Waited patiently in a que to query the drink cost & asked the question - how much was the drink order [ thinking she would have a reasonable idea as she was the landlady]. Sadly, as landlady, she had no idea - & suggested i go back inside and ask her husband to check the till receipt ?- This was about 20 minutes after being served in a very small busy pub with lots of people hovering around the very small bar - i was not going to go back an be embarrased again !. The night was spoilt for us -, so we left at about 7.15pm - [ still no fireworks - well except for how i felt] for the 75 - 100 guests [ including many children]. Walked the 1 mile home and entered our local hostelry - 'George & Dragon', ordered the same drink order for comparison and was charged £6.20 in tota, which i thought was fair & reasonable. [This was Foster's lager] and a standard measure of gin & bottled tonic - so no different [ except for £4.00 or so in price]. have removed myself from the Jug's landlady's social media site, & will never, never visit this [Jug] pub again. We live in small local villages in North Yorkshire not the metropolis of London where perhaps these prices exist as the norm !

The Jug Inn, a characterful English pub of the tradition variety. This is a cosy looking little pub, with lots of character. Out back there is a large, south facing, beer garden, which provides a lovely way to while away a sunny Sunday afternoon, as was the case on this visit. One little hiccup, no pun intended; there was no Sauvignon Blanc, which was a little disappointing, and surprising for a busy afternoon at a popular place, though the staff were apologetic enough.Apparently this place has live music occasionally, and my friends and I already plan to return here in the future.

The Jug Inn recently opened over the Bank Holiday week end with new owners. We have visited twice once a s acouple & then with family]over the week end and found the staff to be pleasant & infomative. Reasonable selection of drinks. New toliets are clean and bright, - and there is a good "kiddies" area with a climbing "fort", lots of seating , grassy area and a musical act on the Sunday [late afternoon - evening].which i believe is going to be a fairly regular event. Had not had the opportunity of a "pub meal" yet, as the new chef is not available until the 9th of June[ working their notice] - looking forward to a meal [ as the previous occupants had a good reputation] and many visits during the Summer months with family. Nice to know it is open from 12.00 mid day till late - [ i think every day]. Good luck to you & hope you get the support from the village of Chapel Haddlesey & West Haddlesey. The pub was immaculate and even better and lighter than i remembered, the landlord although quiet, was very efficient. Had the smaller option Steak Pie and Lasagne, both were served up impressively and looked very nice. The pie tasted sublime whilst the shallow Lasagne did lack tomato taste due to this. Overall really enjoyed our visit and hopefully will be able to return as their is a large "For Sale" outside.

This is a very quaint small country public house, spotlessly clean with small rooms of limited covers. A small bar operated, at his own speed, by a man of limited personality in terms of customer interaction is enhanced by the female waiting staff. Sunday lunch offered the full normal dinner menu in addition to a roast dinner of Beef, Gammon and Turkey. Starters and desserts were as the main À la carte menu with the addition of two additional sweet choices on the specials board. We dined on a Sunday mid afternoon on the advice of the management after the 12:00 to 15:00 hour rush and found the premises to very comfortable and quiet. Starters were served almost too quickly within minutes of ordering and were very acceptable. The main courses followed as quickly as the starters and having been informed by the waitress that the beef was cooked on the pink side of medium I chose that option. Unfortunately this did not appear to be the case and the beef served was a thinly cut portion, cooked to a medium condition (no sign of pink) and less than inspiring in terms of taste. The meat was accompanied by two Yorkshire puddings, roast and new potatoes and a stuffing ball all of which were very acceptable. I do however question the relevance of a stuffing ball with a beef dish, which gives the impression of a routine approach to all dishes irrespective of the selection made. The accompanying vegetables of cauliflower, broccoli and carrots were served in a separate dish which was disappointingly small and hardly sufficient for two people. My overall impression was of a reasonable meal that had been pre-prepared before being warmed and served to order (possibly by microwave) although I may of course be wrong in this perception. In terms of value for money the food is quite good but I regret did not produce the tastefulness that I would have sought. I am sure that some customers will find the food to be very acceptable but I regret that it did not float my boat. Not bad but could do better.

Visited on a Saturday evening and had a very enjoyable meal. Good selection on menu and also good prices. After eating it was a warm evening and so we went and sat in the huge beer garden at the rear which is very child and dog friendly. We will definitely visit again.

Met up for Sunday lunch with my brother and his girlfriend, and found that the pub. was very cosy and comfortable. The garden was very dog friendly, so a pity that it was cold and wet! The Sunday lunch meals were fine, and very good value. I had the fish, which was a good portion without being out facing! The others had beef and gammon, and said that the meals were very good.

On a Sunday, you hope for a proper Sunday dinner, with all the trimmings. The Jug delivers. Roast turkey (big slices of it), three veg including mashed swede that tasted of swede rather than of water, perfectly cooked veg and exactly the right amount of gravy for the two Yorkshire puds. There's more on the menu that was offered; I'm sure I'll be back here again. My only complaint is that I was so full after the main course I couldn't fit in a pudding.

I love this little pub. A good array of beer, cider and a great british menu. Enjoy your pint by the river in the summer or huddle by the fire in the snug bar in the winter. The Rib Eye steaks are awesome.

On a nice sunny week day decided to go for a walk from a neighbouring village with my wife & grandson. Rang to confirm lunchtime opening and then popped along for a nice pint of IPA, and glass of rose wine - and - a small, but adaquate [lunchtime] - 2 course for "a fiver" meal.Good food choice at these prices, and sat out at tables in the tidy and grassy garden area, which is more than adaquate & enjoyed the early spring sunshine. the tables could have done with a bit if clean [ but that is the only "negative".Not been to the Jug for a while but thoroughly enjoyed the experince, - likely to a further "do over" through the course of 2014. Understand their "Sunday lunches" are good value and looking forward to trying them.

I come here for a meal about once per week. I have never been disappointed. The food is excellent, great service and very reasonably priced. The murgh merkhani curry ( not sure I have the spelling right!) is to die for.

My partner and I visit here quiet regularly! We love it, the food is lovely exactly what you'd expect from a lovely village pub! It's a small pub and that's what we love about it but it does have a big beer garden for those sunny days! Make sure you book as you don't want to go and be disappointed at not getting a table, this is a very popular choice for people in the area! We can't wait to move closer and visit more often! The staff are so lovely and welcoming! On a final note the food is amazing for the price you pay!

Most of the reviews of this establishment have been positive therefore we were rather disapppointed on a recent visit. The pub was busy with mainly couples having meals as well as engaged in hearty discussion and we were glad that we had booked a table reservation. The pub was warm, clean and had a reasonable selection of beers and wines but it was the main meal courses and ordering that caused the problems. i wanted my main course to include only certain items and these were written down on the ordering form that the waitress had - unfortunatly when the main course arrived the chips had been left behind, when they arrived we realised the onion rings had disappeared. After advising the chef these items were speedily . delivered. The Sunday lunch appears to be good value but when studying the menu in detail we had to admit that the menu is not as exciting as first thought and we have had similar elsewhere. True we were full. the staff were apologetic but we were disappointed and this is reflected in our score. It certainly won't stop us visiting in the future however and will only take a minimum of effort to raise the score to the next level.

My girlfriend and I decided to have a good scan through Trip Advisor to find somewhere to eat last Sunday. After a good old search, I came across the Jug Inn, seemed to look good and the reviews said the food was great. This pub is situated in a very quite, nice location just outside Selby and is very easy to access. Inside it was very nice, with a classic pub finish, nice low ceilings and a very rustic warm feel to it. We decided to stay and order some food, we did fancy a Sunday lunch but due to the time we arrived (4pm) they had sold out which was a shame but must have meant their Sunday dinners are great. We both decided to order from the steak menu, I had the sirloin and my partner had the gammon. Both came within 20 minutes and looked great. I asked for my steak medium rare and that it was, perfect! With traditional home made chips which were equally delicious. Looking at my partners gammon I couldn't resist to try, again it was lovely, a nice thick cut and had bags of flavor! Everything about the meal was brilliant, the service was great and the beer was good too! Would recommend this to anyone who wants somewhere nice and relaxed with a family feel, bags of character and great food! Will defiantly be visiting on more Sundays to come! Excellent!

This was our first visit to the jug inn. Highly impressed is an understatement having eaten at a lot of pubs in the Selby area this is the best by far. The customer service was excellent, the food was traditional British food cooked to a very high standard. I can highly recommend the 120z gammon and chocolate sponge. Great value for money. Will defiantly be dining here in the future.

We had a fab Sunday lunch and what a price £10.00 for two of us. The hand pulled beer and log fire make this pub a lovely place to spend a few hours. We will be back soon already booked for the Xmas menu.

We went for a meal this evening and after waiting 10 mins to even order a drink we decided to go else where. There was 2 other member of staff behind the bar just sat down and talking . This is not good enough and we won't be going there again better keep to the George & Dragon in future where there treat customers like there important and go the extra mile

Sunday roast for a fiver! Three choices of meat, Yorkshire puds with lots of potatoes and veg. How can you go wrong? Nice selection of desserts too.Great pub with some really good ales. Hardly surprising that every table had been reserved for the 'Sunday sitting'!!Staff are very welcoming and accommodating (they squeezed us (2 adults) in without booking as we arrived at 12 noon), however, I would strongly recommend booking ahead as it is clearly a very popular place to eat. Will definitely return.

Eaten here a few times now and the food is just fab, as are the staff who are very helpful without over powering you. Good priced food and friendly helpful staff, what more can you ask for? So much better than the next nearest pub, the George & Dragon in West Haddlesey which we found to be noisy and smelling of bleach???

A regular stop off whenever we’re in Selby. The food is fantastic whether it’s a quick snack, full on Sunday lunch or special occasion. Mat, Gemma, Di, Chaba & all the staff are polite, respectful and… efficient. An enjoyable experience. Can’t recommend highly enough.

We took a bit of a detour from our journey South to visit The Hidden Tearoom, and what a great choice it was! So many delicious homemade goodies and a very warm welcome from Edi. The Scone-wiches (cheese scone with bacon, onion marmalade, cream cheese and salad) were fabulous and there were too many lovely cakes and puddings to choose from. Highly recommended.

We have eaten here with friends 4 times over the last 2 years, but it has never really impressed us. The food is OK, but not really worth the cost. The chips were hard and dry, which I don't understand as they are supposed to be home made! Also, the drinks have always been expensive, but £4.55 for 1 pint and one half pint of lime and soda is ridiculous. The most we have ever paid in the past is £3, but often less than that!!
