Really nice Sunday lunch, lamb was delicious. Desserts are highly recommended especially the brownie stack, very good quality food and lots of it. Service was very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely recommend this place. Thank you for a great experience.

New tenant in situ. Atmosphere is much improved and more welcoming. Food now available - decent pub styled food choices without any frills. Prices as expected. Beer choices are good with excellent draught beer (Theakstons and Timothy Taylor) plus a myriad of lagers. A really pleasant local. Worth a visit.

Only 1 star for food as none is served, only food vans on certain days, which is a bit strange. Our local pub, sadly looks like it will be closed from end of this week. So typical of pubco owned establishments which appear to be the majority of locals these days. No long term plan and no reward for hard work. Hope some new landlords can come in and prove me wrong.

Thank you so much for an absolutely fabulous meal tonight! We had a party of 9 which started as a party of 4, then 6 and a newborn… April was accommodating from the start. We were welcomed by the lovely staff, served excellent drinks (clearly lines are cleaned well- very good pint 🍺 👍🏻) then had the most delicious Sunday Lunch… plenty meat, delicious crunchy veg! Credit to you April. Delicious! You’re a credit to the pub. My mum is sooooo picky as she has a degree in home economics and can cook but your food was outstanding. We have and will continue to recommend you to everyone. We shall certainly be back. Lovely pub, lovely atmosphere, lovely staff and all round lovely lunch! I’ve had loads of Sunday Lunch’s in my 71 years some good, some bad and some exceptional but today the chef came top of the class in the exceptional category, the back to school pudding took me back 64 year it was better as the sponge was lighter, I really couldn’t fine fault at all, the service was a match, what can you say about two young ladies that smile laugh joke and deliver when they are supposed to. The landlady and family have put so much time effort and money into this and they deliver on all that they say they will. I can’t recommend them highly enough, I’ve been for a drink with friends before and now I’ve sampled the restaurant so come on give it a whirl you won’t be disappointed. Having booked a holiday house in wistow for a large family get together we visited the Black Swan on Friday afternoon for drinks in the beer garden, was told there was no captain morgans or smirnoff vodka, when we asked why we was told in a very abrupt manner, 'because we've been busy'! We also booked the Black Swan for the Sunday for 17 people, on arriving and given the menus showing only sunday roasts and nothing else, we asked if they had other options, we were told 'NO' there was 1 adult and 1 child that did not eat Sunday lunch so we asked if they could possibly do chicken nuggets or something similar to accommodate them, we were told very bluntly NO this was not possible as they only provide the Sunday lunch and it would mean putting the air fryer on for 20 minutes, her attitude was very uncaring and very abrupt! Due to this my husband gave a quip that he would have the beef 'if they could manage it', wrong we know! But to which the waitress serving us who we later learned was the manageress answered 'do not have that attitude with me!' we almost got up to walk out but stayed because we did not want to spoil the day for our family. We were then served our meals of meat and Yorkshire pudding, but my husband was not served his until the very last minute even after they brought the veg out! the manageress then almost threw my husbands plate down in front of him and said 'there you go we did manage it' I then remarked that she should not be speaking to customers this way and she just said 'whatever' myself and my husband then got up and left! As a business and especially as the management her attitude was very unprofessional and in my opinion was handled in a very childish manner! If you cannot deal with customers in a polite and professional manner then you are clearly in the wrong job!

Terrible experience. We were in Wistow for a family weekend. 17 of us. We booked Sunday roast before we arrived. A few of us popped in for a drink on Friday afternoon, only to be told they had no Morgan spice (fair enough) then also they had no Smirnoff left either. Which seemed to amuse the manageress for some reason. Myself personally, I would have sent member of staff out to nearest shop and to try and accommodate customers. But it was no biggie, just a strange attitude. Then we all arrived for Sunday roast. Out of 17 of us we had one adult and one child that couldn't eat Sunday roast. So then told basically that it was a take it or leave option. Not trying to accommodate again. I do get that it was strictly a Sunday roast menu, but we didn't realise until we got there because we were strange to the area, i personally made a stupid comment, which I hold my hand up for. But was then treated in the most childish manner of any manageress I have ever come across. Deliberately leaving me to last then throwing my dinner in front of me with a childish quip and totally wrong attitude. Myself and my wife immediately left without paying because of the disgusting attitude. Fair enough. Food wise......we asked the rest of the family, who should have walked out aswel, for their honest opinions. The majority said it was just ok and not worth the money. 3 stars at most. Put a dampener on our family weekend, but hey there us always alcohol.......just not there. Terrible experience

We booked in advance as a big party. On arrival, the tables weren’t ready despite the pub being near enough empty. Tables finally put together for us but we’re not cleaned. Poor first impression that only got worse from there. We were informed that “as advertised” only sunday roasts could be accommodated however had ran out of one of the meats already as they admitted they had forgotten to start cooking it. We were a party of 17, with 3 small children. We were given children’s menus however when we came to order we were told children could also only have a roast dinner too. We asked if there was any way of them making a quick chicken nuggets and chips for the children and they said “that would mean turning on the air fryer so no” After a disappointing start already and 4 people out of our party unable to find something they liked due to lack of meat options on the roast and zero alternative options for children, we were met with unaccommodating staff who didn’t know answers to questions and had poor attitude. The host of our party (who was footing the entire bill for 17 people) made a joke when ordering his food saying ‘i’ll have a beef roast if you can manage it’ The server got her back up and pulled him up for “having an attitude” and told him not to speak to her like that. After an already sour start, this was less than desirable. The server made a point of serving the host of our party last I can only assume as “punishment for his attitude”, deliberately serving those next to him and then going down to the other end of the table. When she served him last she threw his food down and said “see, i managed it” this was the straw in the camels back. She was rude, unaccommodating and didn’t know the answer to any question despite being the manager. This caused the host of our party and his wife to leave the establishment there and then, ruining what was meant to be our final family meal of the weekend. Sour from start to finish with food comparable to a microwave meal from Aldi. Veggies and accompaniments were brought out a good while after bringing out all of the main meals meaning our food was either cold for those who chose to wait, or gone for those who decided to just start eating. Where our servers social skills lacked, her organisation skills were not much better, only half of the cutlery was put out on our dirty table meaning we had to go to other tables to get our own. A pub ran by a bunch of rabid squirrels would make for a more pleasant experience than this dive. Definitely visit if you hate your family and want a horrible time.

Pub landlady lying in comments here to previous reviews - trying to argue and muddy the waters. As part of the party of 17 I'll point out a number of lies: 1. Kids weren't offered an alternative option from the a la carte menu. No one was so that's a total lie. And if they were - then why would he have made a comment about you not bothering your shirt? 2. The two members of our party subject to rudeness and immaturity from staff left before anyone started eating food. So how could they mock the food? That would be impossible given they never tried it. 3. The attitude and behaviour from staff was so much worse than anyone from our party. 4. No one to my knowledge apologised to staff, perhaps someone who felt uncomfortable did but that definitely isn't representative of the group's feeling on the matter. 5. Waitress told us she was the manager - who are we to believe then? For anyone else reading here's a summary of the place: Rude lazy staff and school dinner quality food. Get ready to clean your own table, get your own cutlery and hear a lot of "I don't know" from staff.

Just had our first evening dining experience at The Black Swan and it met all our expectations! Even though it was a Monday, the restaurant and pub were busy and the atmosphere great, but it was also easy to talk. So often, busy equates to so much noise you can't have a conversation with ease, so this was perfect. Loren and Peter are always super warm, welcoming and friendly hosts, and April is a brilliant chef! We had the Tartiflette and Pàté de Foie de Volaille to start, both of which were delicious (lots of bread with the paté), and then the Entrecôte de Boeuf and Coq au Vin to follow. Oh my goodness! If you'll excuse the double entendre, the Coq just melted in my mouth! ;) Delicious sides too, and our son had the vegan Squash, Cranberry and Red Onion Tagine and said it was equally good. Sadly, we were too full to sample the desserts, but next time... Looking forward very much to going back soon. Highly recommended.

I had the cheese bottomless brunch on Saturday and my god was it delicious!!! Didh after dish this is a bottomless brunch like no other. Every dish that came out of thr kitchen was just as yummy as the next and the presentation was absolutely beautiful. The baked goats cheese with honey on a toasted bread was my absolute favourite. The cols meats was very tasty and thr cheese board had lots of different selections, almost too many to choose. When we thought that was enough, out came the desset plate with not 1 but 2 yummy cheesecakes and 2 very delicious chocolate brownies!!!! As the food sank in, the prosecco flowed and was always topped up to the brim by the lovely Laura. We had first class service and a warm welcome by Laura who was the perfect hostess. This is one for any cheese/meat lovers and i urge you all to give it a try. At £35 i do think its undersold as the portions are pretty and the service is spot on. All of the food was excellent, the French influence is great (and basically just means excellent flavours!) and gives you something different to the usual pub standard food. By not having a ridiculously big menu you can tell that it enables them to do the choices they offer really well. All 6 of our party loved their food, my highlight was the tartiflette! Bonus was that it was Happy Hour 😊 ! We all had starters and mains and had absolutely no complaints . Excellent service and great quality food. Would definitely recommend .

Recently moved to the village with our two young children, we’ve been for Sunday lunch and again for a meal tonight. Food is simply gorgeous, so tasty, good amounts and it’s so nice tasting home cooked food! We are going to become regulars…. especially to eat the cheesecake!!!

What a fabulous time we had at the Black Swan in Wistow this last weekend! Warm and welcoming staff, with big, friendly smiles. A great atmosphere. Lots of choice of drinks, including alcohol-free. The recent renovation is excellent, stylish, with lovely details but also reinstating some of the lost character in this traditional pub building. The new deck is fantastic! Add to that the excellent Village Store in the snug and the fresh produce market on a Friday, and Wistow has a very welcome community destination for all! Looking forward to our first meal next week!

Booked for Sunday dinner with my grandpa… we are bloody fussy buggers and moved to the bar which wasn’t a problem. They couldn’t do enough for us. Food was all homemade and decent prices. Thank you 😊

I'm generally a critical person when I eat out, finding disappointment with the food or service in some way. I frequent the pub regularly so I know the service and warm welcome is always fantastic. Today my partner and myself had Sunday roast at the pub and we were both blown away by how amazing every bit of the food was. The mashed potato is the best I have ever had! The lamb was superb and there was not a bit left to take home for the dog. I would highly recommend it to anybody. Thank you Claire (chef), Simone (landlady) and Jonathan (landlord). Legends!

We visited after a windy walk locally and it was lovely. The owners were so welcoming and friendly, especially to our puppy who is still getting used to the pub environment. We had the scampi and the food was served quickly and was delicious - couldn't fault it. A lovely pub with lovely owners. Would definitely recommend!

A regular stop off whenever we’re in Selby. The food is fantastic whether it’s a quick snack, full on Sunday lunch or special occasion. Mat, Gemma, Di, Chaba & all the staff are polite, respectful and… efficient. An enjoyable experience. Can’t recommend highly enough.

We took a bit of a detour from our journey South to visit The Hidden Tearoom, and what a great choice it was! So many delicious homemade goodies and a very warm welcome from Edi. The Scone-wiches (cheese scone with bacon, onion marmalade, cream cheese and salad) were fabulous and there were too many lovely cakes and puddings to choose from. Highly recommended.
