Brill fish and chips and you get a massive portion 10 out of 10

We have used this fish and chips shop a lot over the years, and have no complaints. Last time i went in, Fish and chips was just over a tenner. Instead, i got a small curry and a small portion of chips and honestly i couldnt eat them all. you def get a lot of chips. parking can be pants as some people like to park right outside the door... and why do people take all their 20 kids with them when they go?! There is a bench to sit and wait on inside and room to get in as long as numpties dont stand in the door way!

This fish and chips are great and value for your money when getting your chips it's a good portion and the fish and batter are lovely. Not like other fish and chip shops in the area. Keep up the good value and great food

If you want excellent fish and chips that will make your mouth water this is the place. They were due to close in 5 mins when we arrived but they happily cooked two haddock and chips freshly for us. Can't fault it

Chips curry tasteless very disappointed

The fish and chips here are not good, They’re fantastic, I wasn’t expecting much but a wonderful very young team communicating well doing good haddock and chips. The only very slight issue is the vinegar seems to have little flavour despite asking for lots. But that seems to happen everywhere.

Stopped by for the good old fish and chips…. Nice clean and friendly chippy, the food was ok at best. The chips were nice but sadly the fish was graced me with soggy batter, really let down by a chip shop that advertises the use drippings! I was so looking forward to some gorgeous food, hhmmm not this time. Will I visit again? Nah I don’t think so, I’ll gladly try another chips shop.

Omg, the best fish, chips & mushy peas we've ever tasted. We had a lovely smiley young lady serve us. Worth every penny. Amazing .

First visit after being recommended by a friend. Great little fish & chip shop. All cooked fresh to order. Portions are a good size, couldn't finish my fish & chips, and that doesn't happen very often. Best in Tadcaster for sure. Definitely returning. Thumbs up to all the staff. 2nd visit. Good fryday fish & chips. Great service, good sized portions, piping hot, freshly fried. Can't fault any aspect of Kirkgate Fisheries. Best chippy in area by far. Thanks to all the team at KF.

Fish cooked to order , thick meaty flakes in a medium batter, best I've had in a long time.

You can pre order which saves waiting. Lovely fish and chips and good portions. Curry sauce and battered sausage are a favourite with teenagers.

First visit whilst working in the area from Nottingham.. Extremely friendly staff, piping hot lovely chips and plenty of them . The most unique and best fish cake I think I`ve ever had and overall excellent value at just over a fiver. Couldn`t fault the food or service.

What absolutely amazing fish and chips. The owner is a gentleman who is committed to quality and customer satisfaction. I always ask for my fish well done and due to frying everything fresh it is not an issue. The chips are fabulous and the fish is fresh and the batter is really crispy and so tasty. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for our fish and chips ❤️

Very first time here. From Liverpool. Ordered fish and peas. Husband ordered his. We also ordered 2 cartons of sauce, she said we asked for curry but we said no..so she cancelled this. We were asked if we wanted a bag. Presuming she meant a carrier bag, we said yes. Our food was cooked to order. Our food was passed to us in paper bags. Not trays. Mine had chips, which I didn't ask for. I dont eat chips, so didn't ask for them. I said I didn't ask for chips, she said I did and I had paid for them, so I would have to take them. Also, who puts fish and chips in a paper bag? Never ever seen it before. You can't even get salt and vinegar on it all. My husband went mad as he had gravy and couldn't pour gravy into a paper bag. We were in a local hotel so didn't have a plate. Why were we not offered trays? The food itself wasn't very good..although the fish inside the batter was nice. The batter was very oily and tasted oily , so I pulled it off and left my chips.. I certainly would not recommend this fish shop to anyone.

Arrived on a normally quiet Monday lunch time, the haddock I ordered was freshly cooked in front of me, the fish was fresh and succulent, the batter light and tasty. Service was friendly and helpful. All in all, thanks folks very tasty.

I was staying at a local Travel lodge who recommended this place. I ordered my food which was salted, vinegar added and bagged. I went to pay with a Scottish £20 note and was told we only take British money!! I explained Scotland was part of Britain to be told again that we dont take Scottish money only British money. After trying to explain again I got the same answer. I debated on paying with a card but decided on principle not to. They therefore ended up with a bag of food they could not resell and I walked out in disgust. Being a Yorkshireman myself I find this totally disgusting and having defended the county in the past because of this type of behaviour I can no longer do that. Therefore I give this place a zero star review, but had to give one star because you have to have a minimum. I come by here every few months for business but this place will never see my custom in the future. I ordered from a local chinese take away instead who were very happy to accept the "non British" Scottish notes!!

Called here today after visiting nearby Knaresborough. The haddock was absolutely beautiful, great service too, will definitely call again if I'm in the area!

Came in pissed up and gaffa had all the answers. "Whatever you've got, fry it" " I gotcha" Out came 2 last minute fishcake butties, bit of tartar sauce, plenty scraps, valt and siniger, tremendous. 10/10 would recommend

Ordered the haddock and peas and it was lovely. They are really generous portions so I skipped the chips this time. (Just get one portion of chips if there are two of you!) The batter is light and reminded me of proper 'seaside chippy!' Excellent.

Called again today. Glad to say as good as before. The shop is clean and well presented, staff and proprietor pleasant and obliging. The fish and chips cooked to perfection, decent portions and fair price.

I live about 200 yrds from another well know fish & chip shop in Tadcaster. But from now on i will be using Kirkgate Fisheries. They are excellent & huge portions.

On holiday in York and finding all the local eateries booked for valentine's we went to a local chippy. Turned out to be a great option. Service was friendly, cheery and quick. Fish was very well cooked with lovely crispy batter. Chicken burger was enjoyed by our teen (best ever she said 😋). Excellent chips. All in all great food and good value

Huge portions of chips! I had a battered sausage too and it was very good. Rationally priced too, a lot cheaper than a pizza takeaway!

Never fail to produce excellent quality. A single portion of chips is enough for two but the do offer a small chops if you asked. Not tried a burger yet, maybe this Friday. Staff are friendly and service is good.

Had the regular haddock and chips. Fish on the small side, more like a mini fish you get in some places (not much fish, but what there was had a nice taste), and batter nice & crispy. Chips - good portion size and good taste. Beef dripping makes a difference. Expensive, notice its gone up £2 in 2 years, around 25%! (I am aware everything has gone up lately). Someone below mentions the fish sticking to the paper. That's probably because the fish has come straight out the fryer and not been allowed to drain for a minute or so.

Came up to the area for my 60th Birthday treat and must say the fish and chips I had from the kirkgate made it worthwhile, I can't remember the last time we had fish and chips as good as these. And I do know a bit about fish and chips.

Good fish and chips but now way overpriced and smaller portions too. I used to come here regularly but as the prices here have massively inflated can no longer afford to do so.

We've just moved to Tadcaster, I love fish & chips and have them regularly so was looking forward to seeing what the local chippy was like. We've tried this place a few times now, trying to give them the benefit of the doubt after a couple of disappointing meals. They're ok, but really not great - the batter was very thick and stodgy. I had chips on a tray one day while we were out for a walk and they were great but I won't be going back for a fish and chip tea

These are hands down the best fish and chips ive had in a long time! Fish was fresh and batter was super crispy, chips were like they’d been triple cooked and the curry sauce was nice and thick! 100% recommend. To the staff don’t change what you’re doing everything is great including the customer service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was our first visit to this chippy and we were very very pleased with the polite and friendly staff. The fish bites are the best we’ve had and the fish cake was made as it should be. The chips were a cut above the rest and everything was still red hot when we got home. Will definitely be coming again. Thank you Kirkgate fisheries.

Great fish and chips. Fresh, flaky haddock in perfect, crispy batter. Lovely chunky, non-greasy chips, all piping hot. I'll go out if my way to call again next time I'm anywhere near.

The staff are very friendly and welcoming and you get to eat your food in the shadow of a massive John Smiths brewery!!! Beautiful fish staff amazing covid restriction brilliant

Very nice fish, excellent chips, generous portions. If anything slightly under cooked. When taking the fish out of the paper it took the batter with it leaving a bit of a floury mush. Saying that this is why we try and eat them straight away. They are never the same when you get them home wherever you go.
