Was looking forward to my fish n chips from Barlby. Found it closed when I visited even though their website said it would be open. Got home n phoned them, Eagle Fisheries at Castleford answered, was told they had closed down Barlby at the end of September 😮 When I said the website hadn't been updated I was told it wasn't their problem, they only worked for Eaglescliffe.

We are staying in barlby for the week and had our first meal from here. Absolutely delicious

Service was amazing, fast, friendly and my meal (Battered sausage and chips with a small Gravy) was nearly half the price of the chippy I used to go to (Wolseys in Sherburn In Elmet) and just as wonderfully tasting! Will definitely be going back, I didn’t eat it till nearly half an hour after I left the shop, didn’t keep it in a heatproof container or anything to keep the heat in and it was still hot when I ate it.

We regularly visit and always receive excellent service and quality food. We have always found the owner to be accommodating and are never disappointed in the food.

First time I've had fish & chips from Barlby fisheries in years. Absolutely gorgeous . Friendly and efficient service too. Definitely be using again . 10/10 used regular since the first time mainly for works order and everyone who's had them agrees outstanding quality fish & chips. Best in area by far. i came to the fish shop and it reminded me of my ex wife this made me miss her as the fish reminded me of hers im devestated defo comin again the service was very nice due to me being upset it tasted just like hers rip but wasnt as good as hers ripbabes may ur fish be with me charlotte hambelton...

We were really pleased when the Fish and Chip shop opened up in the village a couple of yours ago. We have been regulars since and are yet to be disappointed. The food is always lovely and the staff friendly and chatty. Long may it continue.

Excellent food. (During these restrictions it would help all other customers if people did not request multiple items to be separately wrapped, where possible - to help them serve more quickly). Old style batter, wonderful fish and Great chips. Another reviewer mentioned the fruity curry - a top suggestion as we found it very pleasant. Joint top of our current list of 5 outlets in the area, with Wolsey of Sherburn in Elmet. We will be back, possibly not on a Friday and phone in an order (phone orders not currently taken on a Friday). Note the new number!

They need to update the opening times on the Web site it is 20.00hrs on wednesday and it was closed at 19.00😳

Really disappointing, the batter was great but the fish was really dry, far too overdone. Unfortunately won't be going back.

We used to go to the local chippy in Selby which is excellent. However these fish and chips beat that hands down, Better than excellent, superb. Well cooked proper chips, crispy flavoursome batter and juicy fish. They offer different sizes of portions .The shop is properly set up for Covid-19 one customer at a time, screens in front of the counter, staff wearing masks. I recommend taking a coat as there can be quite a queue and you have to stand outside while you wait for your order to cooked.

Decided to try the fish and chips but was very disappointed. The batter on the fish was lovely but unfortunately the fish inside was well overdone and very dry, I couldn't eat it.

Although current restrictions apply directions clearly identifiable. Staff very friendly.

Always fresh (cook to order) and the batter is pretty much perfect! Good mushy peas and curry too. The only improvement I could suggest is for a few more chips as the portions are smaller than average. Sometimes there’s a wait, but that’s because it’s so popular! It is well worth it though!

Best in the area by far! We travel from Hemingbrough for these (have a chippy in the village) and they are SO worth it! Third time we’ve been and will continue to go and recommend to family and friends. The staff are really friendly and they even have two types of curry sauce! We are just gutted they don’t open on a weekend :(

Second time we have being here now (the first was quite good). Last Friday 3rd jan we ordered and was told it would be a while for our order as it has been busy, which was fine. However, the lady had poured our mushy peas and put ready to pack with our order 15 minutes or so before we actually received the full order. We had asked for some fresh (and hot) peas as these had been sat out for a while and the door was open too (freezing air coming into the chippy). The owner then piped in and didn’t seem to see what the issue was, and cockily suggested microwaving them when we got home (a - what if we don’t have a microwave, and b - we are paying for hot food not cold!). Change your set up and prepare and pack the sides just as the order is finished, it’s so simple! Overall, awful owner with extremely poor attitude towards customers. Very disappointed as it hasn’t been open that long. Will not return and spend any more of our money there!

Waited for about 15 minutes for chips and curry sauce. The apparent large chips cost 1.90 and was a tiny portion. I expected to be able to have enough chips for myself and my partner but there was not. Will not return. Average food.

Popped in for Fish and chips after reading reviews. Nearly got a McDonald's at the retail park. So glad I never. Absolutely Spotlessy clean not surprised it's a 5. The fish was beautiful, better than any I've ever had in Whitby and far better than My local Seabreeze in Redcar. Chips were great aswell. Very friendly Staff. Will definitely be back when passing. Highly recommended.

Since this fish shop reopened I have been 3 times and the standard of food has been excellent! The fish is fresh and tasty, the price is very good, cheaper than others in the area. The staff are extremely friendly aswel. Have recommended this place to friends and family and they also agree this is the best fish and chips we have locally.

Recently been reopened and it’s fantastic to have a shop that opens at realistic times. The food is excellent best in the area. The owner/staff are so friendly and obliging. Quick service. Doesn’t break the bank. Totally value for money. Second visit and was just as good as the first. Will definitely be using on a regular basis.
