An excellent stop off as we cross the M62 in our motorhome. Ali and the staff made us feel very welcome at this motorhome stopover. The service was first class. A lot of work has clearly gone into reopening this magnificent old inn as an Indian restaurant. It is right up on the top of Pennines as you cross from Lancashire to Yorkshire, between Saddleworth and Rishworth Moor. The food was first class and quite unexpected in this very remote location.

Starter, leek and potato soup was tasteless and thick like it had t been let down. Just tasted bland. The most awful shepherds pie I have ever had. Watery mash on top of a minuscule amount of watery plain lamb mince, no extra gravy to try and drown the taste out. So disappointing. Out of the half a dozen things on the menu, 2 of the other mains were sold out (fish and chips and the pie) so we thought if they only do a few things they must be good. Nope awful. Didn’t stay for pudding as didn’t want to give them any more of my hard earned cash as the other two courses were rubbish. Nice little pub, nicely decorated for Christmas but that’s it really. We won’t be going back.

This Christmas my son said, 'let's go out for Christmas dinner.' So we booked into the Cinnamon Lounge. The price seemed reasonable - as you would expect to pay a little more for this special day. I was skeptical about going out for Xmas Dinner as it was the first time that we had taken this decision to not have dinner at home. What a lovely meal it was. I started with Tandori Lamb chops then lamb Akbari curry and then desert was profitoroles. The lamb chops were covered in a delicious spice and were so succulent and tasty. The meat was beautifully tender and I got 3 chops and they were a nice size. The curry was so tasty and again the meat was tender and it was topped with fresh thinely sliced veg. It was really flavoursome and as a not so bad cook myself of most cuisines (my dad bless him was a Yorkshireman and my mum is a Dayak Malaysian from Borneo and we lived in the Far East while I was at school, which is where I got my love for cooking) I rated the curry for taste at a 10/10, which I do not give these scores out lightly. I don't always finish my curries and do like to take the rest home but on this occassion I savoured my curry and mopped up every bit of curry with the yummy Nans. It was an amazing meal and all the family and they enjoyed their currys and the ones who still wanted their turkey dinner they said they enjoyed their meal too (even though the grandkids still missed the way I made my stuffing and they always made me make my homemade giant Yorkshires) My hubbie cannot no longer take spiced food due to his medical condition so this is why we chose this restaraunt as he could have the traditional Xmas meal. He said his turkey was not dry and really tasty and they were generous with the roast spuds. He did have for his starter the salmon, which he said was lovely and not over spiced for his tummy. All in all it was a lovely relaxed meal. I was not up late on Xmas Eve prepping veg for the big day. I did not have to get up at dawn to get the turkey in the oven and when we got home the kichen was as clean as we went out. We had 3 hours of calm and then the whole family, all eleven of them, were all back at ours for drinks and nibbles. A great Christmas without the stress which was lovely but unfortunately the house and kitchen looked like a bomb site when they all left. But normally I would have been totally wiped out and exhausted when doing the whole day but instead I actually felt more chilled and relaxed and enjoyed the day playing games with the family. I would definately recommend Xmas Dinner at the Cinnamon Lounge. Get booked in early for next year. But before you do try visiting them for a curry prior. The staff were so attentive and polite and we did not feel rushed. We did go for one of the 1st sittings at 1pm, so I am hoping the meals for them later in the day were as good as ours. Definately be coming here again. Thank you all for our lovely Christmas Dinner experience.

Regrettably this place has gone right downhill. The young serving staff were all absolutely lovely but there were times when they needed some leadership/guidance. Despite the place being half empty (on a Saturday night!) there was some disorganisation. I had to send a pint back because it tasted of vinegar. This is very, very worrying because it means the beer lines are dirty and infected with bacteria that produces acetic acid (vinegar). Again this points to a lack of leadership. Is there no line-cleaning routine in place? Is no-one making sure it gets done? Is no-one tasting what comes out of the pumps before serving it to paying customers? The vegan offer used to be really good here but it has shrunk. There was a "plant-based burger" but it came as a soggy mess. Cheap patties made from spuds and peas, rather than a textured meat substitute. It tasted like a Linda McCartney burger. When I go out for a meal, I want two things. A nice pint and a good vegan offer. This place used to have both those things, but I'm sorry to say it now it has neither. I'm afraid we won't be back.

Love coming here when passing through. One of my faves places. You pay more. But worth every penny. Quality and quantity exceptional. My partner had the bacon muffin. Perfect. I had the crispy chicken. With bacon sweet chilli sauce mayo. Beautiful and ample. Chocolate and orange ganache buns scrummy. Staff also lovely.
