Called in for lunch after an abortive trip to Hebden Bridge ( unable to find anywhere to park). We were met by the friendly host in a pleasant, recently refurbished pub which was clean and inviting. We had sandwiches which were freshly made, bread was fresh and fillings were plentiful and tasty, especially the bacon and cheese sandwich. Will definitely visit again when next in the area.

Stayed overnight when coming to Sowerby for a family gathering. A very quick, efficient and friendly welcome. Room was perfect for what i needed, comfy bed and spacious room. Bathroom is small but does the job. Towels were great, and large (often a pet hate of mine in hotels, is towels that are stingy and small!). Breakfast was lovely. All in all a great stay and the Rushcart Inn provided everything i needed from my stay.

We stayed at the New Rushcart between Christmas and New Year, primarily choosing it because of its handy location for visiting family nearby. And what a good choice we made. Our room was comfortable and cosy and the staff were very friendly and welcoming, We ate a couple of times in the bar and especially liked the lamb kofta dish. It made a nice change after so much festive fare. The steak ‘n’ ale pie is tasty too and the inn serves proper Yorkshire mushy peas. We also enjoyed chatting to the regulars. Thanks to everyone who made our three night stay so enjoyable. We’ll be back.

Myself and my wife stayed for a couple of nights to attend a wedding nearby, the room was clean, large and very pleasant with a comfy bed. The pub side was very nice, the staff were friendly and the food was terrific, one of the tastiest burgers i've ever eaten, there was a great Jazz trio on the friday night, which were very good too. We will be returning in the summer and would recommend to anyone.

We were in Halifax for a concert at The Piece Hall. We booked a night's stay at The New Rushcart Inn and we were not disappointed. Our rooms were beautifully decorated and very cosy, tea and coffee in the rooms with chocolates supplied which was a lovely touch. Toiletries and toothbrushes and toothpaste provided in the bathroom which was a great idea. We had planned to have a drink then check in and go into town but we liked it so much that we stayed and had a few drinks in the bar before heading off. We booked breakfast for the morning which was lovely, all freshly cooked and the food was great..one of the best breakfasts I've had actually. All 4 of us loved the place and next time we will stay a couple of nights so that we can see more of the area and have an evening meal at New Rushcart. The staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble, definitely recommend a visit you will not be disappointed.

Overnight stay... BINGO NIGHT!!! Very noisy sounded like the caller (who had a microphone) was actually in "my" bedroom directly above.. Went on until after 10pm.. Then noise when staff leaving as they used the door at bottom of stairs from room to go out... And made a noise talking loudly under my window at 12.05pm 😳 so not able to get to sleep and this was a "break' in a 500 mile journey 🙄 No one there to greet me when I booked in and I had to wait three quarters of an hour for someone to come after I phoned, there were two agitated people who couldn't get their stuff from the property and had been waiting sometime for someone to come.. Although apologetic for both not my best experience. Bed was comfortable.. Room nice..

What a fantastic place for food and drink. Came here with my partner, parents and their dog for a bank holiday lunch and it was brilliant. Every course was as fab. Stoves lit in the pub gave it a lovely cosy feel and the staff were so welcoming. My only tiny feedback would be to have bottles of sauces or the sauces brought out in a little dish as the packets are so difficult to open once you’ve started eating a burger! We will definitely be visiting again! Thank you for a lovely meal 😊

Went to see where the food was & a member of staff was Tucking into his roast dinner but STILL NO SIGN of OURS! Very disappointed with the whole experience. I had done my research on line and the reviews were good - excellent so was really looking forward to finding another great pub restaurant. The service was poor, very slow taking order and took almost an hour to get our main course. No fish available and tomato and basil soup had chilli in which I am allergic to. Steak pies were OK but the reason for the delay was 'they had to make more pastry top'. They had over an hour to do this and even I can make pastry in less than an hour!! Go if you feel you must, but I am sorry I cannot recommend the food, service or ambience, was very noisy.

The drinks are also more realistically priced than they were with the previous owner. We had the Sunday deal of 2 roasts for £12, we had the beef, and the table next to us had the ham. We all agreed it was very tasty. We also heard someone else say how much they had enjoyed the burger, which looked huge. The service was truly appalling. Half the menu was not available at 7pm in the evening. A lady at the table next to us was complaining that the pudding she ordered was burnt and had similar complaints to us regarding the menu and service. The food was average, in line with the price to be fair. However, both of us had upset stomachs for a few days afterwards. The beer was good but we definitely won't be eating here again. I've no idea how it got such good reviews.

Visited the Rushcart Inn twice this weekend. Once for a friends hen/stag do & second time for Sunday lunch with wedding couple. Amazing atmosphere, lovely wood burners & fab food. Was very impressed by their disabled facilities - made my visit so much easier. Oh and the staff are awesome, one ever played a few tunes for us on the piano. I will be back sometime.

Me and my wife came here with our daughter, we heard that they had, had a complete new refurb and also hired a new very good local chef. The front of house staff were extremely friendly and the new refurb makes it feel very warm and welcoming especially with the log burners! We had a bbq chicken burger as we saw on Facebook a woman raving about the size and how nice thy where and it was true they were to die for ! Massive portion so if your hungry here is deffinatly the place ! The chef had a chat with me about the meat and the owner of the pub is a farmer, so all the meat is from local produce ! This explains how big and fresh the chicken was ! Will deffinatly be returning ! What a great job the new team have done ! Would recommend to anybody, wether your wanting a swift pint or a gorgeous family sit down meal! 10 out of 10 guys !!

Although we have lived in the area a long time,, we have only been to the Rushcart twice in 40 years and the last time was on millennium eve! We called up on a Friday night and were pleasantly surprised by how nicely it has been refurbished. We ate and I had the sirloin with homemade chips, salad, mushrooms, and tomato. My husband had the steak and ale pie with chips and we got a dish of vegetables to share as well. The sirloin was tasty but very thick and a bit overcooked for a medium steak but it was still very good and the chips etc. were great. My husband declared that the pie was also very good- it certainly looked good and he ate it all. There was a young lady singing, accompanied by a young man on guitar and from what I could hear, they were very good but there were so many people standing around and talking loudly it was hard to hear and no-one seemed to applaud them.My only slight quibbles were that the tables for dining were so close together we could hardly get into the table and we were very close y to our neighbours on the next table. My other slight complaint was that there were children in the pub, including a baby in a pram and a young child who screamed very loudly. Luckily the parents did take her home or otherwise our meal would have been spoilt. I understand that pub owners want to encourage all customers but it would be better for adults if children had to leave before 8.00pm at the latest. Still the Rushcart is worth a visit and we will be calling again.

After reading the reviews on here we visited one Sunday in October. Positives 1. Very tasty meal @ great prices – 2 courses for less than £102. Well-presented food 3. Clean & tidy Negatives 1. Only serve Sunday Roast menu on a Sunday- if you don’t want a roast then you’re stuck. Menu we were given said roast lamb was available- when I came to order I was told it was ‘OFF’ – only chicken/beef was available.2. Slow service. There was one other table in and we had to wait a considerable amount of time before our order was taken and in between courses. Possibly about 30min before order was taken, a further half hour before it arrived and near enough to 45mins before main course came out. Whilst I appreciate all the food is served fresh- this is too long to wait. 3. Bar staff congregated around the kitchen talking (loudly) about their Saturday nights escapades whilst we were waiting to order food4. Cold - the proper fire needs to be lit- it’s a great feature and needs to be used in colder weather.5. No atmosphere at all6. Decoration is nice, but not suited to the building, would be more suited to a wine bar, not country pub. All the reviews are fantastic, and I respect peoples experiences are different. However we visited at peak time and there was one other table in, for a Sunday I would have expected the place to be packed out going off these reviews.

This pub has had a fantastic refurbishment and it doesn't stop there, the food is fresh and beautifully cooked, the chef is friendly and knowledgeable and the bar staff are attentive, it's all I could ask for in a local. As a bonus they also offer B & B which I'm dying to try even though I only live down the road!

Just been today, with my Wife, Sister and Nephew. We had a good time, the food was exceptionally good. My Nephew liked the fish Sea Bass Filet in that case, my Sister had and myself had the Old Gate burger with chips, my Wife had the Guijon Chicken Burger. The Waiter was not pushing ( specifically with the bill ) at all All in all very good

Disappointing food. Had the haddock and there was a very small piece of fish in a soup of Hollandaise sauce. Half of the mains were not available.

A lovely traditional pub steeped in local history that for the last few years has suffered from a revolving door of short lived landlords without a clue. What a refreshing change then to see that the Hinch' has finally got new landlords (Oct2024) who clearly know how to run a pub. Within a short period of time they have successfully managed to breathe new life into what had become a tired and soulless place to eat and drink. On the two occasions we've been since the Hinch reopened we've been super impressed with the food. In fact the cheese and onion pie might well be the best pie l've tasted in the Calder Valley (or ever!) and the flavourful and plentiful Sunday Roast offering was a cut above your usual pub ‘roast’ offering. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the food if you’re looking for somewhere to eat - especially when it comes without the hassle of parking in Hebden Bridge. On each occasion we’ve been, the Hinch was busy with drinkers and diners which is great to see. The trade off is you've only got the choice of Manchester owners JW Lees’ own branded mystery beer offerings. Forget the craft-ale revolution, or the fact that Vocation brewery is literally 5 mins away, the solitary guest beer offering here is San Miguel. I guess you can't have everything, but at least the food and atmosphere more than makes up for it!
