Can't just say wonderful meal, because everything was wonderful. The food was beautiful. I'd pre ordered my main course due to an allergy, and that was fine. My main course (beef) was gorgeous and the potatoes ..! I need the recipe. On arrival, the staff are so friendly. We were shown to our table, and served complimentary home made bread, olives and balsamic. Neropasso was our red wine of choice, it's amazing. We both chose a starter, the mushroom and chocolate soup was great! Both mains -beef and lamb - were perfect, the bread and butter desert gorgeous. Everything about our evening was super. Thanks to the staff ... It makes an evening out a definite treat!

This is the first time we've visited this restaurant and we've already booked to go again to celebrate Velntine's Day. The food was excellent (I can highly recommend the fish pie and the sticky toffee pudding!!), the staff were all really friendly, attentive and efficient, and the restaurant itself has a very cosy, intimate feel about it. This is definitely a "hidden gem" in Brighouse!

Just a great place to spend Xmas eve in a modern British restaurant with such an inspired menu selection. As one of our party required gluten free this was recognized immediately and a separate menu provided. The special Xmas Fayre was great value at only £25 per head for a 3 courses. The food was also special. The braised steak dish was just outstanding. Finally the staff were ALL just wonderful Happy Noel to all of you.

First time at this restaurant - nice surroundings and we had a good table. We ate from the Early Bird Menu which is small but I felt there was a good choice - i had the haddock mousse to start and the lamb Henry - enjoyed both dishes although rather too much couscous with the Lamb Henry. Raspberry creme brûlée to finish. The service was very good - friendly and efficient waiting staff. We weren’t rushed away from the table even though we had booked early bird and we had a really enjoyable night. I look forward to eating there again.

Lovely place, decent enough menu and the food we had was okay. Just need to really brush up on their service. We dined on a Saturday night and it was very quiet, which is always a telltale sign. We had to remind them several times for things we’d asked for. We were there for a friend’s birthday and they said they would acknowledge our celebration....they didn’t, obviously forgot or just didn’t want to. Shame. Unlikely to return when there are so many fabulous restaurants around West Yorkshire.

Disappointing. Our first visit following recommendations from my sister. We arrived at 47 grains & were greeted but not offered any menus. Minor point. But the meal then progressed where we had to ask for every little thing, menus, wine, for example. There was only one waitress who seemed very uninterested. The starters were generally tasty but the portion size of the ox cheeks was particularly tiny. The main courses were nice but the desserts weren't great and we mentioned this to the waitress who apologised but didn't take any further action. My main issue about tonight was the quality of service we received. It was substandard & really spoilt the meal. I won't be visiting here again.

Opted for the Early Bird on a Saturday (before 6pm, 7pm Weds-Fri) with 4 choices on each course. The goats cheese mousse was gorgeous, followed by Lamb and finished with a Chocolate Brownie with amazing ice cream. Everything was beautiful. But the little touches like bread fresh from the oven with balsamic and oil to start with and the best red wine I’ve ever had also add to the experience. The service is great too. A la carte menu looked wonderful, but the set menu suited us. 10/10

We had heard good reviews of this restaurant and were not ddaointed ourselves.I had their own pHure gin with elderflower tonic and it was excellent. My artner had the mussels as a starter and pronounced them 'outstanding'. Fortunately there was enough lovely bead to soak up their delicious sauce. I had melt-in-the-mouth belly pork. Not to be missed. For mains I opted for the roast beef dinner. It was substantial with lovely veg including gorgeous red cabbage, huge Yorkshire pudding and both mashed and roast potatoes. Not to forget the jug of gravy! My partner was a little sorry to have chosen the lamb Henry, which was fine but not exceptional. We were late diners and the main courses took a bit more time than you might have expected but it's a super venue with very pleasant staff.

Made a very late booking online via the IHG Hotels App as this hotel was one that they recommended. Were shown straight to our table on arrival. Good choice of menu. Selected a bottle of white wine which wasnt too expensive and tasted great. The staff were a little slow to come back and take our order, but when they did so they apologised that they were extremely busy due to a large party. We were given bread and olives with an oil and balsamic dip while we waited for our starters. The olives were really good, even my boyfriend who doesnt normally eat olives enjoyed them. Starters of Scallops were nicely presented and quite large scallops and the soup of the day - pea and ham - both delicious. We both ordered the chicken for main which again was nicely presented with a portion of dauphnoise potato and a leek and corn sauce. As we had to be somewhere we asked the waitress for the bill when she brought the main course. When she presented the bill to the table she once again apologised for the slow service and had knocked 10% off the bill (we didn't actually think it was too bad and had we not been going somewhere would have enjoyed it being leisurely)Overall staff were polite, friendly and helpful and the food was delicious and we wouldnt hesitate in returning.

Lovely bar area, pretty lighting throughout comfortable furniture and tasteful decor. The food choice was limited however we were still torn on our choices - we plumped for scallop starter and the stuffed mushroom starter - both were so well presented and so incredibly tasty . We followed our delightful starters with Lamb and a surf and turf- all presented well again and so very tasty , I had the blue cheese sauce as a side - highly recommend with the steak and to dip the fires yum!All of this was washed down with a lovely red chosen from a well appointed wine list. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable as well as being discreet, the ambience is calm and comfortable and the food was to die for! I was brought here for a surprise birthday meal and had a lovely time. I like a decent pint and whilst the restaurant bar is a bit limited, the main bar downstairs has plenty on offer and the staff are happy to bring you whatever you would like.Food quality was excellent, but I was particularly impressed with the quality of the staff. They are a young team, but very professional and attentive. One of our party has a food allergy, but the member of staff who took his order made sure exactly what his limitations were, and was able to come back with recommendations and options, including modifying existing dishes for him.The only issue, which wasn't a direct one for me, but worth considering, is the separate entrance for the restaurant, which isn't easy for people who struggle walking. I appreciate that this might not be straightforward to sort out and I didn't want to deduct any stars for what was an excellent night. Thanks to all.

I was glad I came to this curiously named restaurant for dinner tonight. (It is named obliquely after the flour mill, now deceased, which looms over it.) I took advantage of the very competitively priced early doors menu - a steal at £19 - which includes complementary nibbles of olives, bread and oil + balsamic. There is a decent choice on this menu. I opted for the blue cheese rarebit, followed by the red mullet with crab linguine and the mixed home made icecreams. My only small complaint was that the rarebit needed more cheese and thinner bread; when I passed on this comment it was very graciously received. The mullet was very tasty, cooked just right and the linguine good. The ices were also very pleasant. Service was exemplary, very friendly. I did (for once) enjoy the background music which was to my taste - perhaps because I was on my own? With a large glass of wine and a coffee I paid just under £29 which was very fair. 47 Grains deserves a higher TA rating!

Greeted with a friendly warm welcome from the bar staff into a cosy quaint dining area, the layout and decor compliments the cosy feel perfectly. Just the atmosphere we needed after a long working week.We dined with the early bird menu, which is value for money no doubt about it! Ingredients are fresh, presentation perfected & portions perfect satisfying. The fact we have no pictures to add to this review shows how quickly we devoured the food with it looking & tasting amazing! Pulled pork croquette to start with delicious bacon bits, and crispy calamari which wasn’t overly battered, just the right amount. We both had hake with chive mash and cray fish sauce, which I was pleased to find some actual cray fish in there too! The chocolate brownie to finish with was divine and the best brownie I’ve had! Crispy on the outside... gooey in the middle The waiter was very attentive in the right amounts, we felt catered to but not smothered. As a new restaurant, 47 grains have all the right touches added; delicious complimentary bread, oil & olives as an appetiser, ice, lemon & lime In the table water, a quirky delivery of the bill in an OXO old fashioned tin. Myself and my husband enjoyed a really lovely meal this evening at 47, The Grains. We had the luxury of having the place to ourselves tonight, although we were assured that it is usually much busier! We started with warm bread, balsamic and olive oil which i could have eaten all night had I not had to order a 'proper meal'! The food was beautifully cooked and presented - steak for him and guinea fowl for me - and tasted as good as it looked. The lemon posset that I had for dessert was just the right balance between sweet, creamy and lemony (the latter being VERY important) and the Czwerwik cheese board was hovered up by hubbie. The wine to accompany all this - a Shiraz - washed things down very nicely indeed.Whilst it is not cheap enough to be an everyday kind of place, it is a very lovely restaurant in which to enjoy a relaxed evening with good service and great food and wine. I highly recommend a visit.

Fantastic food, service and ambience, what a little gem of a place in Brighouse- waiting staff very attentive and friendly, food exceptional, and a little different. Plenty of different wines and spirits to choose from. Sumptuous surroundings- plenty of character giving a feeling for relaxed dining. We will definitely be returning to this little oasis - loved it all !

We were first to arrive that evening, everyone was very welcoming, the restaurant was neat, tidy and clean if a little cool initially but that was sorted as the heating got going. Not a huge menu but quite different combinations but we all managed to choose something we fancied. The food was excellent, as was the service, some of our party even tried their own gin which I am told was very good. An excellent evening all round.

We arrived quiet late and with no reservation having travelled 200 miles and been delayed by traffic but the staff were very helpful. The food we all ate was excellent, I had the steak, my wife had the monk fish both were delicious. One of the others ate the lamb which was also excellent (and he used to be a chef). Throughout the staff were attentive and friendly. A real gem.

My girlfriend and I went on the 17th for the early bird menu and absolutely everything from the decor to the amazing staff to the atmosphere to the beautiful food that far surpassed our expectations including the mushroom soup and the smoked haddock risotto (which the chef happily agreed to throw some chorizo in for me!) Made for a truly happy and contented date night.Needless to say we have been spreading the word and have another reservation to check out the Christmas menu! (Amazing staff include but are not limited to; Hannah, Lydia, Elliott, Nizar, Doug, Grace and Liz) Thanks guys

Visited here on a Saturday evening and so glad be did. What a gem of a place xxx We didn't have a starter but you are brought crust bread with a balsamic dip which is gorgeous. I opted for the steak with scallops and king prawns. The steak was one of the best I've had in a long time. The scallops and king prawns were cooked to perfection. My husband had the slow roasted lamb shank which he said tasted divine. We were too full so didn't have dessert. The waiter was very friendly and attentive as were all the staff we met. Well worth the money and we will be back xxxx

This was our third visit for a special anniversary, first two were five stars but appears to be declining food was ok but not as special as first times, found out that they have been through quite a few chefs, never a good sign. Meat was on the raw side of pink and chewy, presentation was bit haphazard Staff are friendly and helpful, need to go back and see if food has improved. Will be a great shame if initial standards have slipped

Been a few times now and it just gets better and better. Staff are super friendly and helpful and the food excellent. I ordered from the pub menu which was no problem for the staff and when I couldn't decide between two dishes I was told I could have the stuffed pepper as a starter and the roast haddock as a mains. Both were lovely, the pepper crisp and juicy and the roast haddock cooked to perfection with an amazing butter sauce and fab little roast potatoes. Later on we were told that we could have just ordered anything we wanted whether on the menus or not and as long as they had the ingredients they would make it! I have mentioned this in my other reviews but the wine list is absolutely brilliant- I have considered just going to drink wine which I'm sure would be allowed so accommodating are the staff, talking of which.... What can I say? Lovely lovely people I can't make special mention because they are all brilliant. The chef who brought me a new cream sauce personally 'just to try as it will go well with that fish' Hannah who is just the most friendly person ever, Elliot who fusses the girls and makes , I am told, the best cocktails (Timmy Taylor makes mine!!) and last but not least the serene Lydia who, swan like, projects the most calm and serene persona whilst noticing every detail and running the whole set up with total professionalism. For me it's as good as it gets.

Called in on chance at 17:15 Saturday, they said it was fully booked from 19:45 but we were welcome until then. Sat on the sofa near the bar and had our drinks brought to us (I ordered a Timmy Taylor's from the pub downstairs and they fetched this). We had the early bird, a really good starter and the Seafood Linguine main was excellent. Staff were attentive and the prices are reasonable. It did lack atmosphere but we were there very early, I would suspect there is quite a buzz when at more popular times - new restaurant definitely worth trying.

As a party of 2 couples we dined here on Saturday evening at 7.30 and was a little surprised to note that only 3 tables were occupied throughout the night, ours being one of them. Thought it would be busier. Having said that, the welcome, the atmosphere, the decor, and above all the attention from staff was excellent.Love the subdued colours and rustic decor. Love the polite and friendly service. Love the menu, despite being limited but with a choice of more unusual dishes. Love the cocktail menu and the choice wine list.Did not love my "creamy??chilli and garlic mussels" starter which came on a plate??? and hence no sauce in which to dip my large piece of accompanying bread. Also they were not de bearded !! Please can we have them thoroughly cleaned and in a bowl with the sauce (and with another bowl for the shells) . My pig's cheek main course was delicious but think it was only a piglet !! It came on a bed of potato mash, (I never found the baby leeks), and though it was very enjoyable, as it comes with no veg ( I know it's an extra at £3 a time !!) I felt under served and over charged At £16 for a small meal which I ate in a matter of minutes. Our friends chose the tongue starter (which was a bit tough)and the chorizo/ asparagus (which was superb),followed by rib eye steaks which they both enjoyed.I appreciate you are not serving "pub grub" and I cannot fault the restaurant itself for ambience or the brilliant staff team for impeccable service but if 47 Grains is to stand out amongst the other "fine dining" local establishments I think it needs a little fine tuning to give value for money food wise.We WILL return to support this new venture and hope to try the early bird menu which should satisfy my quest for remarkable food at an fair price !

FRENCH ONION SOUP - onions not caramelised to flavour.VENISON - burnt black!! - should never have left the kitchen (shame on you 'chef')Cooked too fast at too high temperature. (bottom right of photos)ROSTI POTATO - burnt, able to lift in one piece! (pic l & 2)Even the embarrassed young waiter offered to take it straight back as it couldn't even be cut. The ever so sweet waitress was equally unimpressed.Defeated, the two of us sent it back for a quicker alternative- Hake - plain boring and tasteless! So, decided to try this place last night. Millers Bar downstairs was packed to the rafters so we were surprised to see only 4 tables occupied on a Friday night. We were there 2.5 hours. No one came or left. The decor was nice, dark chocolate coloured walls and vases of daffodils on the wooden tables. I think it was lacking atmosphere because it was empty. We had pre dinner drinks and perused the menu, which is quite brief, but interesting. The prices were quite a surprise, more than we expected for where it's located. We decided not to order wine as it seemed to be expensive. The starters arrived.everthing was nicely presented. The bread came in a small hessian bag with butter and balsamic oil to dip into. However, a few hessian hairs had escaped onto the bread rolls so nice idea, but not hugely practical. My husband ordered duck breast, which when it came we laughed. There was 4 slivers of duck, £7.95 ishI mean it looked as if the chef had run out of duck, I wish we had taken a photo it was shocking. The vegetable starter was nicely presented as was the fish starter.Mains, the meat on three dishes was good. They all looked very nicely decorated. The veg was already incorporated in the dish and there was no extra veg on the menu to purchase separately. My fish was tiny. It was the same size as my fish starter portion but with added veg. I said OMG is that it. It was maybe two inches long and an inch wide. Literally. I think this was about £16-17! very very disappointed. We felt quite ripped off frankly. We didn't order dessert. The food that we ate was very good. It was nicely presented. The decor is cozy. The waiting staff pleasant. After our meal, one waitress was chatting to customers, we waited 20 mins to get the bill, my husband had to go & find one of the other waitresses chatting at the bar and ask for the bill. It wasn't as if they were busy.So mixed reviews for this place. Nice but overpriced - some ridiculously small portion sizes. It has potential. Just needs tweaking. Not sure we will hurry back. Hubby came home and had a snack. He was still hungry. Not good when the bill was heading towards £130 with no wine, no desserts and no coffee.Such a shame. Feel disgruntled.

What a fantastic meal I had tonight! I began with the French Onion soup - a favourite of mine - which did not disappoint. My main course of beef fillet with ox cheek croquettes was the business. We have been twice since the restaurant opened upstairs. First time with a group of 6, the second a family meal. Both times we were warmly welcomed by the staff. The food was well presented and delicious. Choice of vegetarian starters and mains. The warm crusty bread to start is a neat touch. Elliott "the cocktail maker" does a brilliant job at making individual cocktails. The red wine selection is astounding, my husband said it was one of the best red wines he has had in a restaurant. The staff have the time to chat to you which gives it that personal touch. The décor is rustic and tastefully done including some items from the old Sugdens Mill. It is warm and cosy inside. We will definitely be back again. It is great to have such a lovely restaurant to visit so close to home. Well done and good luck for the future.

A lovely traditional pub steeped in local history that for the last few years has suffered from a revolving door of short lived landlords without a clue. What a refreshing change then to see that the Hinch' has finally got new landlords (Oct2024) who clearly know how to run a pub. Within a short period of time they have successfully managed to breathe new life into what had become a tired and soulless place to eat and drink. On the two occasions we've been since the Hinch reopened we've been super impressed with the food. In fact the cheese and onion pie might well be the best pie l've tasted in the Calder Valley (or ever!) and the flavourful and plentiful Sunday Roast offering was a cut above your usual pub ‘roast’ offering. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the food if you’re looking for somewhere to eat - especially when it comes without the hassle of parking in Hebden Bridge. On each occasion we’ve been, the Hinch was busy with drinkers and diners which is great to see. The trade off is you've only got the choice of Manchester owners JW Lees’ own branded mystery beer offerings. Forget the craft-ale revolution, or the fact that Vocation brewery is literally 5 mins away, the solitary guest beer offering here is San Miguel. I guess you can't have everything, but at least the food and atmosphere more than makes up for it!
