We've just finished a beautiful meal here. Lovely cozy surroundings with a roaring fire. We went for the 2 steak Thursday special, 2 steaks, mushroom, hand cooked chunky chips, and peppercorn sauce and OMG It was amazing. The steaks were cooked to perfection, the peppercorn sauce had just the right amount of bite and the chunky chips were huge. I'm so stuffed! My wife had the cheese pie with peas chips and gravy and said it was magnificent. Full marks to the chef, James it was absolutely gorgeous and very reasonably priced. The steak offer was only £40 for 2 and included a full bottle of wine. We'll definitely be back!

Lovely welcoming pub with great food and a warm atmosphere. Recently changed hands and the new landlords have brought with them super friendly staff, permanently lit fires and (so far anyway), fab menus. …Traditional pub food but elevated with added twists and nice presentation. Really enjoyed our three visits so far (once for a couple of pints and twice for food) and will definitely be back. Beautiful walks on the doorstep too.

A lovely traditional pub steeped in local history that for the last few years has suffered from a revolving door of short lived landlords without a clue. What a refreshing change then to see that the Hinch' has finally got new landlords (Oct2024) who clearly know how to run a pub. Within a short period of time they have successfully managed to breathe new life into what had become a tired and soulless place to eat and drink. On the two occasions we've been since the Hinch reopened we've been super impressed with the food. In fact the cheese and onion pie might well be the best pie l've tasted in the Calder Valley (or ever!) and the flavourful and plentiful Sunday Roast offering was a cut above your usual pub ‘roast’ offering. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the food if you’re looking for somewhere to eat - especially when it comes without the hassle of parking in Hebden Bridge. On each occasion we’ve been, the Hinch was busy with drinkers and diners which is great to see. The trade off is you've only got the choice of Manchester owners JW Lees’ own branded mystery beer offerings. Forget the craft-ale revolution, or the fact that Vocation brewery is literally 5 mins away, the solitary guest beer offering here is San Miguel. I guess you can't have everything, but at least the food and atmosphere more than makes up for it!

This beautiful pub in rural Cragg Vale has been taken on by some new people - Dave, Rachael and Mr Stanley (the furry star of the show ie - their lovely dog). They seem to be making sure it has all the makings and hallmarks of becoming an absolutely superb pub and restaurant once again. The Hinchliffe has been in and out of the doldrums over the last few years but this new couple - and Mr Stanley or course, seem to be really on the ball, know what people want and having been there tonight for drinks and a spontaneous meal, we can vouch for their outstanding friendly welcome, professionalism, and brilliant food. The wine was top notch and the place is warm, buzzing, gleaming, spick and span. It has a decent sized car park, a river to listen to, trees to watch, tables outside and nearby walks in abundance. Dogs are welcome and the food and drinks are smashing. We had the chicken (gorgeous sauce - thank you) and the burger (a big juicy one with hot chips). All superbly cooked and presented with lots of flavours and textures and colours. Truly excellent. Good sized portions, and the prices were really reasonable and fair. We went home full, satisfied and happy - feeling as though we'd had a good night out which is how it should be. We are really excited at the prospects of The Hinch becoming the first class pub and restaurant it used to be back in the day both for locals and other visitors. It has certainly hit the ground running and we will most definitely be going back there very soon for sure!

Drunk people in a pub.... fine, but not the ones behind the bar. Had a hideous time here, shoved into a table in the corner of a hallway. There was a chaotic vibe and a customer started waiting tables for a laugh. The staff thought this was great. Basic Sunday lunch isn't hard to get right but this was dry and tasteless.

Just called in for a late lunch after a walk . We had been before- and it was great … but today was pretty awful. We sat outside and ordered food - only 6 things on the menu so looked promising…… but chicken burger was burnt in some places and uncooked on others : sent it back and ordered the cheeseburger…. It was ok, but everything greasy , chips soggy and greasy .. Staff clueless and disinterested… no apology for the food , pub stank of dog , toilets not v clean …. Alright to sit outside for a drink but Will not be going back for food ….

We visited this establishment whilst in the Hebden Bridge area based upon past tripadvisor reviews and we were not sorry we did. This is an informal and friendly pub that is off the beaten track. It sells very good beer and food of an exceptional quality at reasonable prices. We both had the beef pie with lovely homemade chips and mushy peas. Nothing processed or frozen in this pub! Ordered a beef Sunday dinner and there was more blood from the meat on the plate than there was food. Hands down the worst Sunday dinner I've ever seen or had. Could of got a microwave meal from Asda and would be miles better than what they served. Attentive and friendly service. Decent selection of drinks. Has also just had yet another decor refresh since the new management took over which is more than can be said for the previous lot!! In such a tough time for hospitality this pub is really shining - to those leaving negative reviews, please consider the costs and tribulations the hospitality industry is going through. I dont write reviews very often but the positive comments elsewhere on this page bear no relationship to the awful meal we had. Perhaps there has been a change of cook or they have lost interest in customers but either way a bad situation for a Friday evening. No point going through all the problems but one meal will suffice: a steak and kidney pie which was small and microwaved - microwaved?? - so the puff pastry was soggy and slimy, a tiny ramekin of "mushy peas" which managed to be yellow, hard and watery [inedible - at the very least just open a tin of Bachelors for heavens sake], and a small handful of chips which had clearly been reheated. Shockingly bad and we were embarrassed to have brought our daughter there. In 2023 this kind of cooking is completely unacceptable. Avoid.

They're dog friendly too, and the staff seem to love dogs so by all means bring your dogs too! Lovely pub setting in Cragg Vale. Great food options as well. Ordered the steak and ale pie but it was quite rich in flavour. Heavy on the ale, overpowering the rest of the dish. Served with chips and mushy peas, the chips were quite bland. I would also be a bit pedantic and say it’s a pot pie opposed to a pie as it was served in a dish with a pasty lid. I wouldn’t let this one visit put me off ever returning. It’s one occasion, would happily go back to try something else. The service itself was great. Very friendly and quick.

Wanted to like this newly opened local pub, unfortunately it lacked atmosphere. Was shown to our booked table that was just that a bare table. It wouldn't need much to dress them a little, a vase of flowers and a candle, some background music would have made a difference. My husband had belly pork which he said was nice,I had seabream which unfortunately was over cooked and dry Far too many capers and too many chilli flakes for a delicate fish. The 2 ladies were very friendly but it doesn't seem to have worked out if it's a pub or restaurant. If I'm paying £18.50 for a main meal I would expect a little restaurant ambience. Also children running around and dogs sat at tables (I am a dog owner and believe paws on floors is where they should be) is not what I want when I eat out.I realise they are still bedding in but unfortunately at this current time I wouldn't visit again sadly. The 2 girls were welcoming and friendly and I wish them every success, its just not for us.

Very disappointing experience. We asked if we could dine 1h early and told this would be fine. What this actually meant was that we could sit at the table for an hour and not be served until the reservation time. Our orders were taken first, ahead of two other tables. They clearly put in the orders the wrong way around as these two tables were served first. The quality of the food was nice but it was very overpriced for what you got. The service was very stressy and they also added meals to our table which we didn’t have. The toilets were also a bit mouldy and the pub was quite dark. I don’t think the pricing matched the atmosphere. Overall there were multiple issues here which combined to create a disappointing experience.

This was the second time we had visited, we'd booked hoping for a Sunday dinner. But it seems they only do Sunday dinners once a month. But before I get to the negative bits... Staff are friendly and welcoming and were unphased by the mess the 7 month old baby had left on the floor. It's a nice looking rural pub. However. We arrived to be given the menus that consisted of, solely, tacos. No choice at all. They weren't even realistic tacos; chicken on the bone tacos, pea taco, trout taco. No nachos etc to go with, just roasted potatoes. A single dessert on the menu. Really disappointing. We asked if we could have a child size one, no we could not. All we wanted was a single taco rather than the two. We were in two minds as to leave but stayed, no one finished their food. Really disappointing as last time we had enjoyed a good Sunday roast. No I'm not expecting a Sunday roast everywhere, but some choice at least would be a good start. So. We won't be going there again.

Took advantage of the Manchester Confidentials offer and popped into here. Lovely spot, tucked away with great walks around. The food is essentially pub grub done super creatively. Every dish packed powerful flavours and rich, to the point of decadence. The simple scallops were lifted to another level with a mousse like cod roe dish. The mackerel was moreish and crispy, with the miso and tomato as great supporting acts. The humble cheese pie was uber rich but cleverly done! The malt ice cream for a very apt ginger pudd for autumn was a perfect finish. You will be full and sated.

Just been today, with my Wife, Sister and Nephew. We had a good time, the food was exceptionally good. My Nephew liked the fish Sea Bass Filet in that case, my Sister had and myself had the Old Gate burger with chips, my Wife had the Guijon Chicken Burger. The Waiter was not pushing ( specifically with the bill ) at all All in all very good

My mum had her 70th Birthday party here. Absolutely spot on! We had all the left hand side of the pub allocated to us which was ample room for our party. Staff were great, buffet party food was excellent and plenty of it. We all had a lovely time. Big thank you to all the staff x
