The Alma Inn Restaurant in Calderdale

We were very disappointed last night due to my wife being bitten by a dog in the eating area. We reported this, twice to the staff and they were not very caring and supportive. All we were told "this is a dog freindly pub"!. We will definitely not be visiting again, unless there is a different dog policy with the Alma. We are also considering legal action as we have photographic evidence of the injuries, which my wife has sent across and had no response. This incident could have happened to a child.

Knew the Alma was near Cottonstones church where my grandparents are buried, so was idea to pop in for a meal. Good and service very good. Forgotten how narrow the roads were to get to it!

I asked for extra chilli on my crab linguine, but got it on padron peppers and olives I think! Crab linguine was a disappointment, soggy and smelt fishy. Pizza was soggy and undercooked. Shame. Lovely views.

This restaurant is in beautiful settings overlooking the countryside and feels lovely on a summer evening eating here. I'd heard it was good so had high expectations. The only reason it lost a point was when we arrived the two servers looked at us and ignored us. Luckily another member of staff saw us and helped us. There are a few different eating areas. We opted for the indoor one rather than the outdoor part. I had the mushroom and truffle oil pizza and I honestly think I've not enjoyed a pizza that much since visiting Italy. I could easily eat it every day. I had the tiramisu for dessert and that was nice too. I enjoyed their wine also. I would definitely go again and wouldn't be put off by the cold service we received at first as our lady made up for it afterwards as she was helpful and attentive.

2.5 hour walk here with my tent on my back and my dog in tow. Absolutely worth it. Staff are a delight, Matt and Siobhan were very friendly efficient and accommodating. Matt is very approachable. Lovely lad. Give him some credit please. Had the fillet gnocchi which I shared with my dog and it was delightful. Fair cost and good portion. Great scenery wine and beer. Well worth a treck. Starters were good, but mains were a Huge let down. Husband ordered a Beef Roast Dinner, which included one roast potato, one carrot, one parsnip and a bit of green veg! Would at least expect mash too with one measly roast potato! I ordered a rump steak which was ok, but the accompanying chips in the pot was only half full! We had to request cutlery for both starter and mains, which were just thrown onto the table with no serviettes! Had to get up and find our own! Service was terrible, some training is needed. Such a shame as it’s a lovely place for drinks, but will not return for food again!

We stayed as a family in 3 of the beautiful garden rooms following a family wedding nearby. The rooms were so comfortable and immaculate & the views were stunning. As we were checking in there was a lovely atmosphere in the pub & the food smelt amazing .Breakfast was wonderful & just what we needed after the night before. We loved the attention to detail when the fab hosts offered to prepare a bacon sandwich for the journey home for one of our family members who didn’t make it to breakfast. We wished we could have stayed longer & will definitely aim for that the next time we are back in the area. Thank you so much!

Went to Sowerby Bridge on way home from Manchester. Fantastic place! The staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The food was outstanding. Highly recommend!! Will definitely be back. 😁

We visited on Monday 13th Feb at lunchtime. It was quiet and staff were polite and attentive. We ordered a chicken tikka pizza and some salt and pepper fries to share. Pizza was hot, in both ways! Lots of chicken chunks with plenty of jalapeños. Fries were also really hot and spicy. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Six of us booked a table on Saturday lunchtime in the restaurant. From start to finish the service was excellent. There is a wide variety of dishes and everything we ordered was tasty and even though both pub and restaurant were busy we were not waiting long for food or drinks. Also a good choice of gluten free options on a separate menu. They even have a gluten free beer

Visited for evening meal with grandchildren. Lovely cosy pub inside, efficient service and friendly staff. Menu choices good. Food well presented, in our opinion the portion sizes for mains were small. Salmon was described with steamed veg, this was 4 stems.of baby broccoli with a small portion of fries.Would have preferred some carrots/peas and potatoes for the price!. The pizzas and garlic bread are very tasty and would recommend these if you want to be full up. The children's pasta was very good as the staff served it with the starters for the adults and it wasn't served red hot so the little q was able to eat it straight away :). Overall a lovely place with lovely staff just feel the portions/sides let it down on some meals.

Visited with another couple and their child. Great service and nice place with good atmosphere. Starters were lovely. Mains were a bit of a letdown.

We had a lovely lunch for 3 today. Mains were good the we had a couple of very nice desserts; a brownie and. Crème brûlée as good as I’ve had anywhere! Beer also excellent- I stuck my Vocation, bread and butter😙

After 4 months in lockdown we were looking for somewhere safe to go for a pub lunch & chose the Alma. We were advised that booking was not required if we sat outside. We arrived just after noon. The outdoor seating area is substantial with a large covered area. Ther is also a bar outside, under cover. The landlord patiently explained all the precautions he was taking & what we needed to do. So far so good.Drinks - 3 handpulled beers on the bar including Yorkshire Blonde from Ossett & Taylors Landlord. Payment by card - contactless.We ate fish & chips, falafel burger and Thai fish skewers. Nice portions well cooked. There was a one-way system to the toilets - safe & well organised.The Alma is a great pub to visit if you are in Calderdale just a mile off the main road from Sowerby Bridge to Ripponden.

We went to the Alma for Sunday lunch when it had just re-opened after lockdown. It felt very safe with the tables well spread out and hand gel at hand. All staff wore masks and were very professional. The food was absolutely amazing, couldn't fault any of it. We both had belly pork and it is some of the best we have ever had. Loads of lovely perfectly cooked veg, roast potatoes and lovely homemade yorkshire puds. We both had lemon cheesecake which was delicious too. We could barely finish our food as the portions were very generous.We had a look outside at the back which has had a new pagoda erected and lots of outdoor seating. It looks stunning. What a lovely place to visit

Just had the most amazing experience at The Alma. Lamb kofta’s were clearly homemade & so tasty and very well presented. As were the fish cakes. The beef was cooked perfectly and the nicest Sunday roast I’ve ever had! 10/10.

I took my dad up to the alma for a belated birthday meal and we were definitely not disappointed. We were running late due to our taxi so rang to inform the team and it was no trouble at all. when we arrived the atmosphere was booming every table was full apart from ours which was reserved for us. We're were greeted with a lovely warm welcome from Andy who completely made our evening with impeccable service and hilarious charm. An absolute credit to this business. Now for the food... just wow. We ordered spicy lamb kebabs, pork cheeks (to die for) and squid for our starters all of which were delicious we even started swapping food so we could all try a bit of each others. The mains were next level good quality food I myself had the pie, which has such a lovely buttery homemade pastry that was also crispy all the way around, including the bottom it was so homely and a huge portion so deffo worth the price. Same again with the rack of ribs (recommendation from andy which didn't disappoint) they literally just fell apart the meat was beautiful and tender. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection big compliments to the chef and to the team working hard last night to create such a great experience for everyone who walked through the door. Nothing was too much to ask. I would highly recommend the alma.

Stayed here one night. Had dinner here with my family the food was very good. Service was excellent the staff were friendly. The room was very clean and very large. I would definitely recommend this hotel to all.

Pizzas are always popular here and rightly so but don't expect much more than standard pub fare. An excellent steak and ale pie and decent steak but there's little in the way of fish. Also they do gluten free food but don't advertise it online which is a shame. A couple of years ago the food was excellent...now it's no better than can be found in much more accessible restaurants. Service was good and friendly.

After a nice long walk my wife and myself called into the pub on a Friday teatime, we was greeted with a very warm welcome. We decided to eat. The food was freshly cooked and well presented. The food was very nice. The atmosphere was great and very friendly. We would highly recommend visiting.

Ate at the Alma several times in the last few months the last being when seven of us had dinner on a Monday night. We had starters of pate, garlic mushrooms and prawns. Everyone enjoyed their starter. Main courses of half a chicken, was exactly that and was cooked to perfection and the pork belly the same.

The Alma is a bit off the beaten track but well worth a visit. It was quiet when we went for Monday lunch but there is a proper pub atmosphere which I can imagine makes it buzz at busier times. The food, leek and potato soup followed by spicy gambas was absolutely spot on washed down by a glass each of Chilean merlot. Service was friendly and efficient - we can certainly recommend the Alma.

Just stayed at the Alma Inn overnight as a birthday treat from my husband. Room 3 overlooking beautiful hills at the front of the inn was absolutely stunning.

I went to the Alma last night as part of a large group. We had the Christmas meal set menu which was £20 for 3 courses. It was excellent value. The food was all beautifully cooked and presented. Even though we were a large group all the courses were brought out for everyone at once. The staff were very attentive and helpful. All in all it was a lovely evening with delicious food Would highly recommend!

I arranged my husbands 60th birthday family dinner here at the Alma and I have to say it was tremendous. It was arranged for a Sunday and so it was a Sunday roast all round. The quality and cooking of food was top notch. Very rarely go out for Sunday lunch but will be back for another soon.

...the incredible views, food, rooms, hospitality and beer to list just a few. The Alma is planted on the very top of a Yorkshire Moor with stunning views all around. The pub is quite traditional but with a very modern feel on the inside, very cosy with a couple of open fires and the smell of woodsmoke as soon as you walk in the door. The menu is very tempting with a specialty for wood fired pizza with a great value for money supper and 2/3 course menu option, add to that a good selection of ales and beers on draught your all set for a great evening all delivered by attentive and friendly staff.

I visited the Alma a couple of nights ago with my husband and dog - we used to visit regularly but the food had not been great so we had been elsewhere. I was aware that there had been a change in personnel and had seen the new menu’s via Facebook and decided that perhaps we should give it another try.

Spent two nights here and everything was amazing from the views, food, room, staff and walks. Thanks, looking forward to visiting again soon.

We visited The Alma Inn to celebrate my cousin's birthday. She had arranged for us to eat in the restaurant and pre-ordered a selection of pizzas. The vegan pizza was delicious and the staff friendly and helpful but our large party was rather squashed on our table. I would definitely visit again, though, as it was an enjoyable evening.

Went to the Alma for a birthday and was left leaving very disappointed. Service was terrible, food came out wrong, and when i wanted to see the dessert menu i had to get up walk to the other side of the building to ask for a menu to find the waiter having a chin wag with his mates.

Excellent food, service and value for money. Definitely worth a visit. Superb belly pork, lamb and beef roasts.

I chanced upon this Inn whilst in the area and I am so glad I stopped. What an amazing place. Superb views overlooking rolling hills. I had the Sunday roast and this was beautifully presented and cooked. The staff could not have been more helpful, a big thank you. I highly recommend stopping by.

Had a great night at The Alma to celebrate our 15 year old son’s birthday with 5 of his friends. Pizzas are amazing and the staff r helpful and friendly. Good value for money.

Called here today for lunch. Lovely location, large car park, pleasant traditional interior. The menu offered wide range 2 or 3 course fixed price, a la carte as well as sandwiches and more snack type choices. Prices I thought were value for money hot beef and onion bagette £8. Lovely pot of tea. Great venue choice.

I am really pleased with the new menu at the Alma - the vegan cauliflower and squash curry was absolutely delicious. I will be returning with my husband to have this again. I have to say that the coffee wasn't up to the same high standard; although almond milk was available, the machine has pre-set menu which doesn't allow the baristas to froth the milk themselves. The espresso was reasonable but nothing special.

We have been staying just up the road for a week and planned a Sunday lunch. We were advised to book so we did, in a nutshell it blew our socks off, great value as well as great food. Dog friendly too and the staff are lovely as well.

Visited for Sunday lunch on the 9th Sept whilst visiting our son and his partner. We had not booked but arrived about 12:15 and were fitted in to a table in the bar. The overall welcome and service was fantastic and, apart from the garlic creamed mushroom starter being a little cool, the food was excellent. The lamb melted in the mouth, the beef was succulent and the pork was full of flavour and tender. Vegetables were cooked with a bite left in them (not mushy). The deserts were of a high quality and my wife would have married the chocolate desert if she had the choice!! All in all a brilliant experience and one we will repeat when we visit again. We would recommend the Alma Inn very highly to all our friends and family.

Had a wonderful Sunday lunch with family. A real bonus for us is that the Alma Inn is dog friendly in the bar area. Excellent staff efficient and friendly. Made us feel very welcome. Good choice menu to suit all tastes.

Came up to see an old friend and very pleased that the Alma let us stay overnight in our Motorhome. The new owners have completely refurbished and it looks amazing; the views are stunning; the menu is good and the chef excellent; lovely evening meal and breakfast, lovely customer service and was even allowed to have a much needed shower and to charge the laptops. Highly recommended.

Dined and stayed at the Alma Inn in Sowerby bridge, Yorkshire and really enjoyed not only the where it was but the atmosphere and the food was top class. A lovely English Inn.

Stayed at the alma inn for 1 night. Room is stunning, staff totally accommodating and breakfast was amazing. We let them know beforehand that we are vegan and there was loads for us which was great!
