The best restaurants in West Dorset South West

I’ve been staying with friends in Sherborne, and tonight we fancied fish & chips. As this establishment took card payments I decided to order from them. Rang to check & got superb phone service from a team member, who took my order & collection time. As I ordered three cod, I was asked if I’d consider haddock. A brilliant bit of selling, so I changed my for to a haddock and didn’t regret it one bit. Upon arrival, it was continued great service & excellent customer interaction with us & existing customers. It’s so rare to find such great customer service, especially coming from London, where it can be very hit & miss. Our food was superb, freshly prepared & looked great too. Portion size was brilliant (a large chips feeds three! Well it did for us). I also ordered two pickled eggs, a wally & two sides of mushy peas (which I don’t normally eat, but tried it & was dry pleasantly surprised). The chips were not soggy in any way, & the batter on the fish was outstanding. Light & absolutely perfect; the best I’ve ever had! I would not hesitate to recommend this establishment to anyone, on so many counts, not least on service, food quality, freshness & price! When I’m back in Sherborne, I’ll be returning without question & will tell everyone about how good this place is! Many congratulations to the entire team, seen & unseen!

Good quick cheerful service which set the scene for visit. We were seated in front of sunny patio and straight away were asked if we comfortable with the door open or would we prefer it closed. Have never been given the option in other places. The quality of the food was excellent as was the presentation. It was our first visit and certainly won’t be the last.

Pros: good chips Cons: got overcharged because the staff must've realised we weren't locals....

Food, service and staff was all absolutely first class. Balti express is the best place for a curry in town.

Absolutely lovely place, my partner and I were celebrating and went for a nice date here. Great food with lovely decor, chef even refunded us the price of our desserts as they weren’t satisfied with the presentation (still tasted amazing). Will definitely be back again this summer, would recommend.

Amazing Valentine special dishes last evening - scallop and prawn dishes as mains were delicious and beautifully presented. Thanks guys.

Have been meeting up here for several years but the quality of the food has declined noticeably. Have just had a pizza which was wafer thin, with barely any filling, fairly tasteless and too small. Will not meet up here anymore.

Pleasant friendly service and very nice coffee. Two lattes, one with an extra shot for £8.60 to takeaway. No reduction on takeaways. Nice decor and large interesting courtyard garden.

My wife and I decided to try Lal Qilla for her birthday meal. Booking was so easy on the telephone. When we arrived we were attended to by very polite and welcoming members of staff. They were courteous and helpful and very friendly. The food was absolutely gorgeous. My wife had Chicken Kurma with Lemon Rice. I had an Onion Bhaji starter and then a Lamb Roughan Josh with Coconut Rice. The lamb was tender and moist and the rice was beautiful and fragrant. Every morsel was gone from my plate! My wife assured me that her meal was excellent too. All in all a great experience and a beautiful meal at a lovely restaurant. We will definitely be going back, but will also take advantage of their delivery service as well. Absolutely fantastic. 5*

WOW! Incredible family meal at the Wise Man , 6 of us enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch , I had the porcetta which was out of this world ! Bekka our server was attentive but not intrusive, lovely atmosphere and the best Sunday lunch in Dorset . Thankyou to the team at the Wise Man

I didn't get a burger my my colleague did and raved about it all the way back to base. Quickly prepared, local meats, quirky location, friendly staff.
