The best restaurants in North Dorset South West

Friendly welcome and simply amazing food!

For various reasons we haven’t eaten out much this year, so it’s a long time since we visited the White Horse. We won’t be leaving it so long next time, as we had a lovely festive lunch there yesterday. The pub, as usual at Christmas, was nicely decorated, with its amazing bottle tree, wish I’d got a photo! Colonel Waffle had a mushroom starter & I had spicy parsnip soup, both delicious. My main course was salmon in a sumptuous sauce, Colin had turkey with all the trimmings. The plentiful vegetables (roast & new potatoes, sprouts, broccoli, carrots & peas) were perfectly cooked. For dessert, Colin had a chocolate torte & I had something called ‘lemon berry delice’ which was one of the nicest desserts I’ve ever had. It was a bit like a cheesecake, but better! There was also coffee & mince pies. The service was as good as ever, because the staff are lovely. The atmosphere in the pub was good, too, even though not all diners were having Christmas lunch. We’ll be back!

Stopped in (8.30am) on the way home from an early job, and the coffee was delicious. Best Costa.

Seems a lovely pub staff friendly enough

Our second lunch here, this time it was for Sunday roast. Lots of delicious food, couldn't finish it all but the lamb is highly recommended.

My family and I recently stayed at the Greyhound as we were seeing family in the area. We arrived and were greeted by front of house Mark who immediately made us feel right at home. We were very kindly upgraded unbeknownst to us and so we had two large, spacious rooms. The rooms were tidy, spacious and well provisioned. Lots of tea and biscuits and fresh milk were a lovely touch. We unpacked and proceeded to have dinner at the on site restaurant, the food was tasty and service was, again, spot on. We finished the evening by relaxing in the cozy pub area of the inn, Mark’s humour and the warm fire provided a very nice end to a day of travelling. In the morning, we had breakfast which was included in the room rate, the breakfast was delicious. The produce was very high quality and all local and there were a range of options at service. The next day we required a late checkout due to the late night festivities of new year Eve, again, this was absolutely no trouble. We were made to feel right at home throughout our stay and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. All of the staff are a real credit to this establishment and we will definitely be staying back here when are in the area.

Perfect pub food. All your pub classics full of flavour and cooked perfectly. Good value and good service. Classic bit of pub.

Large donner. Cold stiff meat, limp salad and not much salad. Chilli is very wet too. Won't be going back. Customer service was appalling; they ignore you when you walk in.

Massively disappointed, paid at the end of summer for a flight for my son , countless voice messages ,unanswered, emails ,unreplied , left number to call back on separate email addresses and nothing , felt like a scam if I'm honest , probably isn't just awful awful service . Dream burst.

Spur of the moment stop for a coffee and breakfast. Both myself and daughter enjoyed a friendly stop and lovely food. A little more expensive than your average 'greasy spoon' cafe but this place is very modern, cosy and clean.

Friendly local pub with the cheapest beers in Blandford

I've ordered food from China Cottage many times over the past few years since moving here from Hertfordshire and it is consistently the very best Chinese food we've had – my family all agree. Thank you China Cottage!

What started off as a last minute two night break away between Christmas and New Year turned out to be a fabulous stay in a wonderful gem of a pub. The room was snug but beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean - as was the bathroom. There was some lovely touches including Bramley toiletries and homemade biscuits and chocolates. The staff could not have been more welcoming and friendly and breakfast was superb - the bacon butty was the best I've ever had. We ate supper in the pub restaurant both evenings and this did not disappoint either - excellent food and service.
