I have never experienced such a cold welcome from a pub. We arrived at 4.40pm on Sunday so between the busy period. We only wanted a drink but after waiting nearly 10 minutes at the bar we were totalling ignored by the barman. Not even giving eye contact. He was admittedly busy preparing drinks for diners but to totally ignore someone standing in front of you is frankly rude and shows lack of client services. A quick I’ll be with you in a moment seems to be missing from his vocabulary. Other staff members did the same and to cap it off a diner came up to the bar and spoke to a staff member to order a drink. So will not be returning to this establishment and unless you like rude staff I would avoid.

We stopped here on the off chance after visiting the Tank Museum Tiger Day. The linguine and burger were tasty with generous portions and the venue was so welcoming we returned on the Sunday evening when they reserved a lovely Sunday roast. Called in late afternoon, hoping for a late afternoon bite to eat and drink. What a lovely find, although they were very busy with a private function nothing was too much trouble. Staff were all so friendly and offered us the full menu. My Son had the Pork Belly and I had the Burger and chips. All the food was really delicious and the chips were to die for. Staff and locals so friendly, really cosy pub with comfy sofas, great variety on the menu and very reasonably priced. Small double room you cannot swing a cat in. If you are chlostrophobic this room is not for you. Stains on carpet being hidden by a mat. Cobwebs on ceiling. Fan in en-suite had to be turned off as it flaps loud through the night. Some aircon unit outside the window on the roof makes a noise all night so window has to be shut. But be careful watch the fish hooks on the curtains. Fish hooks being used to hold curtains up so dangerous and razor sharp. Breakfast was the only positive unfortunately. Accommodating to choices. Shame that doesn’t match the accommodation as it’s the perfect location for visiting Dorset. Felt we were forgotten about too as asked for a bath at booking which they said they would do their best to accommodate however when asked at check in it was a clear no, there were no rooms available due to a function and it would be a payable upgrade anyway. Wouldn’t stay here again unfortunately. Avoid room 4, recommend being renovated asap

My wife and I booked a table for our first lunchtime meal post lockdown. They have obviously made the most of lockdown and the outside area is very well presented. You can book with either a phone call or using their website and in a similar fashion you can either order your food via the extremely friendly waiter or via their App. We both had burgers which were perfect and the chips are quite quirky. They have a v shaped groove so they hold condiments extremely well. I had a pint of Cornish Tribute which was well kept and my wife an ice cold glass of Pinot Grigio. The booking in process is swift upon arrival and the whole experience is covid compliant. Well done team.

We have visited this pub several times over the last few months with our severely autistic son who loves to eat out. The level of service is always excellent and the young man who serves us is always friendly kind and courteous and makes a real effort to interact with our son in a really kind and meaningful way where many others are either patronising or unsure. The food is great definitely way above normal pub grub, portions are generous and the food is freshly cooked and arrives promptly. The lunchtime menu has a good range of options. The garden is lovely and with a vulnerable person in tow we really appreciate the measures that have been taken to keep this pub COVID secure whilst maintaining a great level of service. The evening menu looks great too and there is a lovely feeling of being part of a village community with a fabulous shop which opened during lock down and has been a real lifeline for many local and vulnerable people.

As a travel journalist I have stayed in array of accommodation of a variety of different stars and never have I stayed in a room so small. Looking at the images on the website, all the rooms look a great size, so this was unexpected.I had booked a deluxe double which I now understand is code for small double and the standard rooms are the better room. There was such a little gap between the bed and the unit that I scraped myself on the corner. Also, the toilet seat was broken and the shower door was faulty, to be fair though, the owners may have been unaware of this prior to checking us in.The room was very nicely decorated and the toiletries are lovely. Whilst the bed was extremely comfortable I had a very poor night’s sleep due to the very noisy extractor fan outside the window which was on constantly throughout the night. This was made worse by the room being so hot that we had to open a window. So, the first day of the staycation and I’m exhausted. On the plus side, the food is extremely tasty and reasonably priced. The staff and owners are also very friendly.

We stayed one night with our 2 children whilst visiting local attractions. The main point to take away is that this place is fantastic really, the rooms are great, bar area nice and back garden/seating area beautiful (the weather was fantastic and you really could've been sat in Spain or France). The staff are also really friendly, although 1 or 2 becoming a bit over familiar... Friendly is great, but it can become a bit too much when borderline 'cheeky'.If you want to go all '4 in a bed' on the place, our room had a few cobwebs, quite a few dirty marks on the walls and the electrical fuse box was very low on the wall with no lock (dangerous, especially when in the children's room). One legitimate point is that the room was absolutely BOILING. If we had a fan, I certainly couldn't find it. I'm not expecting air con in every room, but for 30 quid each I'd suggest getting a few fans.Only other gripe was the app ordering system.Literally every time we used it something went wrong... Overcharged, wrong order etc. I'm not sure if this was the new chef or the system itself, but if you're asking people to use it I'd try and get these issues ironed out.To conclude, really nothing to worry about and would definitely stop again.

My partner and I/friends and family have frequented the Greyhound since it’s been taken on by Emma & Andy. Initially reserved as I thought the food was excellent prior their ownership, however, credit where credit it due, both Emma and Andy are jointly superb hosts/owners with huge credit to their fantastic staff. The “team” all work seamlessly to create a warm and welcoming experience, absolutely fantastic food (which I can confirm is consistently excellent) having now returned time and time again. The waiting staff are professional, warm, friendly and above all determined to ensure their guests enjoy the experience. Particularly Nathan, Bryony, Jazz and Jilly who are a credit to the whole team. It’s fantastic to have a local pub/restaurant who have worked hard to get it right for a local/tourist based pub/restaurant- we return regularly, only because I believe they have got it just right. Well done

Well done for a fabulous tapas day. Food was absolutely superb, I am generally overly critical, but the numerous amounts of dishes we tried I only had feedback on one - the chicken and chorizo paella, that was only because I felt the chorizo should be in smaller pieces which would have added more depth of flavour and sense of generosity to the dish overall. However, other than that small criticism all the dishes were super tasty and the prawns were cooked to perfection (both the pil pil and Gambas) - but the pièce de résistance was the beautiful spicy sauce for the Patatas bravas. Great lunch, thank you (Emma, keep a stick of Marlborough NZ SB please!)

Literally just back from another lovely meal at the Greyhound, Alfie and Lucy were very attentive and professional "a credit to the Greyhound". Always visit the Greyhound when we visit Dorset and never had a bad experience yet.

Came for a one night stay with my family in September 2018 while we were down to visit Monkey World. On arrival the hotel staff were welcoming and friendly. Very impressed with the room, plenty of space and the bathroom looks brand new. The garden is beautiful and we sat out back for a drink in the sunshine. Later, we had a lovely meal in the restaurant, which has a nice ambiance. Food was delicious and plentiful. We also enjoyed our cooked breakfast in the morning. Great value place to stay.

Waited 2 hours to get the food and we had a young child with us. Our daughter and family have just moved to this village and we all thought we'd try the local pub. Waiting staff were excellent and in the end didn't charge us for any food or drink. The problem was obviously in the kitchen. Lots of people seem to be complaining about this pub and unless the owners/managers take heed of the complaints there won't be a pub to run! They were not busy as only 5 tables occupied. (Food was good when it arrived). After 40 minutes of waiting we were told two of our starters were not available so we opted to go straight to mains this took a further 1 hr and 40 minutes. The kitchen couldn't even provide bread and olive oil!

Just returned from an evening out here after being put off at the beginning of the year due to poor service and food overpriced for what it was. Nothing has improved the other half had the sirloin at £20.00 it had to be sent back as it was to tough to eat and the alternative was a burger or the fish which we were informed would be time to cook so basically don’t bother. My choice the chicken unfortunately sold out so I had the veggi burger just a premade standard veggi burger. This could be so much more we have frequented this place for a long time long before the present owners it’s sad to see its demise.

Upon arrival there were 2 phone numbers on front door. The establishment was closed. Called the numbers both went to answer phone. We had been travelling for 15 hours so very tired. Found a way into the pub... met Kevin the chef... a very helpful and friendly man.. thank you Kevin. Went to our room through a porch type coded door. It was filthy. Walls disgusting with some sort of food around door frame. pictures show this area. Walls dirty and marked. Room - disaster.... this pub has had refurbished bathrooms and carpets but it is just dirty. See pictures. ROOM 2. We had to visit the UK last minute for a family circumstance so all we wanted was to relax....I started cleaning the room. The pictures say it all. No under sheet or mattress protector... could see writing on mattress through very thin, cheap sheet. Pillows and quilt lumpy... I could go on and on. I would like to thank LUCY who listened.. we would have asked to change room but there was no one to ask. The bar man was, to us condescending... another man dressed in clothes and gloved up as he had been dealing with a septic tank overflowing issue was behind the bar and yet another man looked as though he had lost half a crown and found a shilling.... appeared very miserable. No smiles, no welcome, nothing but disaster. By the way, a new bar tender who was there for his 1st night was well dressed, smart and professional.... NEVER AGAIN!!!!

We stayed at this hotel from 29 July to 1 aug and were very disappointed to say the least. We arrived after a 7 hour drive from the north east of England and although we had been booked for about 10 months the man at reception seemed a bit taken aback at our arrival.A warmer welcome would have been nice.

Stopped off here on our way to bath from monkey world for my mums birthday and the greyhound looked a great stop to eat for dinner , lovely looking hence 2 stars arrived 5.30 greeted by friendly staff , we had to wIt till 6 oclock to order but ended up 6.20 before waitress took our order only couple tables full , ordered bread and balsamic for a picky started and fish and chips for us all, after half hr still waiting for starter which never arrived the main meals turned up chips looked fab but fish should have been beer batter which should b fluffy and light unfortunately it was very greasy and fish still quite wet, we called waitress who said sorry she will tell the chef but not offering any other food or to recook fish which we found a bit strange so we didn’t even get to eat anything waitress wasn’t really worried and asked if we would still like our starters !!! , they deducted the dinners from the bill but we left very dissapointed and still hungry !!!! Such a shame ,!!!

The pub has a brilliant feel to it as soon as you enter and you think wow this might be expensive, but it was recommended and we were not let down. Food was superb and very good value. There was a group of 8 very hungry golfers and there was plenty to of choice. The Wednesday/Thursday special of steak for 2 and a bottle of wine for £30 was exceptional value

We booked a family room here for an overnight stay after visiting The Tank Museum nearby. We received a very warm welcome on check-in and were thrilled with our family ‘room’ which consisted of two separate double rooms beautifully presented with crisp white bed linen and fluffy towels. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant (leaning more towards fine dining than pub meal). We had a fantastic waitress who also served us breakfast and patiently answered my 7 year old endless questions. They also kindly turned the channel from World Cup football so we could watch the welsh rugby in the bar. Thoroughly enjoyable stay. Recommended.

As a family of 8 adults & 4 children we'd decided to go to monkey world, but it was too far from where we live to return home the same day. We decided to book 4 rooms in The Greyhound for the night B&B.; After checking in we were shown to our rooms, they were all fabulous, we couldn't have been happier. The food in the pub was amazing. The owners couldn't do enough for us. It was such a good find on Booking.com & we'll definitely book again when were in the area. Highly recommended

It is so difficult these days to find pubs that are open at the beginning of the week and which have a decent menu and the White Lion has both! This was one of the best meals we have had in the area and the place was really busy, even on a Tuesday lunchtime. The menu had a good selection and we had the salmon and the home made steak and red pie which were both really nice, followed by an orange and marmalade pudding with Drambuie custard. Very reasonable prices too. The pub itself is very old and quirky with low ceilings and a beautiful beer garden and is dog friendly. We’ll definitely be back and look forward too to enjoying the garden in the better weather!

Excellent traditional pub with tasty and well priced food. The staff were friendly and welcoming throughout, especially with the two children in our group. Would highly recommend the steak and ale pudding! Will defiantly be back if we are staying in the area again.

We only stopped in for coffee and cake on a wet and windy Sunday, so no planes were flying, but I was really impressed by the place. I hadn't been in since the old regime, and was impressed by the indoor and outdoor spaces for eating and drinking, and the menu looks good- not your standard fare. Cakes and coffee were great today, thank you, and the staff are charming.

We popped into the Dolphin for a quick drink. It's a great pub with lots of charm and character. The staff were friendly and we enjoyed our drinks. We'll definitely visit again.

Popped in after a walk round Badbury Rings. The place was quiet but very festive looking with a nice cosy atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful, recommending drinks and food for a first-timer. The menu was packed with lots of pub classics and there was a wide variety of drinks too. I went for the Hunters Chicken and was not disappointed. Well presented, tasty and a large portion which I almost couldn't finish! All washed down with a lovely pint of real ale. I'll definitely be coming back, thanks Jess's!
