Perfect pub food. All your pub classics full of flavour and cooked perfectly. Good value and good service. Classic bit of pub.

Went into watch football ended up having food. I had Stilton cheeseburger which was great the chip we’re the best I’ve had for a long time.

Fabulous traditional family friendly pub. My daughter and I ate there last week and had a delicious home cooked evening meal. Stilton and broccoli quiche was served with a very generous salad. Friendly and efficient service and a cosy table in a friendly pub.

Stopped here in the way to Weymouth after booking on line. Landlady was amazing and the food was so good. Pub food at its best. Burgers were so tasty as were the chips, all the 3 kids loved the nuggets and the nachos that my wife and daughter had were so cheesy that they said they’re the best they’ve had. We didn’t stay long after our meal but the pub seemed a place the locals love and u can see why .

We ( 3 Adults 4 kids ) arrived at 6.40pm came into the pub and it was quite busy, but we managed to find a table. The staff was not interested in us at all they were focused on serving their usuals. When we ordered some drinks at the bar they first question was : you thinking of eating ? Which we had planned to. . So answered with a yes only to be told they won't be serving any more food. Which was a shame as others were eating and food was coming out the kitchen. We had a few drinks and then a staff member told another guest that food was still being served with a little wait! Our kids are older and weren't running around or loud but we felt very unwelcome, we saw online that they want children to leave around 9pm so we didnt plan on staying that long. We left and will surely not be returning.

Excellent. Decent, honest, tasty 'pub-grub'. Lots of it home made. Keith was very friendly and served good beer. Excellent puddings. Dorset apple cake.

11 of us went out for a meal and drinks. We had preordered the main course just to make it easier for the kitchen. The food was 10 out of 10 the staff were friendly and helpful. If you want great pub grub I would highly recommend Nelson’s

The staff here were all so lovely and welcoming. We sat in the beer garden, which was a beautiful spot with lots of hanging baskets and a great water feature! We all ate there and the food was great; proper good pub food. The lasagne was home made and got a huge thumbs up; the rump steak was super tasty and a perfect medium rare as requested. The pub has kept the meals at a reasonable price and it made a big difference to our family; the young person could choose an adult meal within our budget which was fab for us. Thanks to the team!!

The place was almost full, dispite this we got our food within 25 minutes, we ordered 2 sirloin steaks both medium rare they were very tasty we also had peppercorn sauce, we also had beef lasagne that I was told was really good, that came with garlic bread, if you are just visiting or live in blandford forum I definitely recommend visiting 10/10

Visited today for our lunch. The welcome was lovely and the pub had a cosy, relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful food, lasagne, salad & chips, bacon cheeseburger, salad and chips. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit, hoping to return before our holiday is over. Thankyou 😊

I visited here with my partner on our way back from Swanage and we had the warmest of welcomes by a lovely lady behind the bar. We sat outside in the small but rather cute garden which is very much a sun trap! The food is mainly good classic pub food which was rather enjoyable and all very reasonably priced - 2 mains and 4 drinks for about £35. Very tidy inside and dog friendly. Please note, they do not have their own car park so you will need to park in town unless you time it right for a couple of spaces in front. Would definitely visit again.

My daughter took me to our “Fave Eating “ place in Blandford.Obviously other people had thought the same.It was quite busy,the staff were on the ball.The food was Amazing.We will be back Very soon (but you already know that)

Great food but left as we just couldn't get served for a drink as we were stuck round a corner of the bar. Eventually gave up and went to the Crown Hotel in the end which was a shame as the food was so good.

We were given a nice welcome filled in all necessary paper work. Nice table 4 by the window. Good service reasonable wait for food, I had curry Joseph had lasagne both very tasty. the dessert ....Dorset Apple cake...hm not what we expected, very dry couldn’t taste apples at all. I did ask what went into it and was told it was bought in and apples being the first on the list of ingredients . Definitely a no no for us anyway good job we had custard to help it down.

Two days after new covid restrictions so staff struggling a little with new arrangements. Staff were friendly and working hard. Good solid pub food, we both had pies - steak and chicken and tarragon. Both good. Lots of thick chips and plenty of veg. Not too long a wait for the food. Bit limited with beers but ok. Good value.

We have had 2 lovely evenings here in the last couple of weeks.A friendly welcoming atmosphere with fantastic food and brilliant service.All COVID rules being adhered to and absolutely nothing to be apprehensive about.Next to try is their much talked about Sunday roasts!

It was lovely to be back in the Nelson. They are handling everything extremely well! Checked in on arrival and the lady who runs the pub found us a lovely table outside as requested. They've worked hard the pub garden looks beautiful. Callum one of the team was very dilligent when taking our orders and always had a smile on his face! We enjoyed chatting to him- very friendly! Brought our drinks quickly and took our payments in a covid friendly manner! Wishing the team and Callum the best for the future!

great pub ,great food ,very friendly ,only issue I have is that someone was vaping inside ,not sure if its allowed but dont feel it should be ,I really dont want to breathe in chemicals that other people are using , do it outside , wont stop me going again as the staff ,food and service is great.

As a local I booked a table on the Friday for the Saturday night for the famous steak meal,Turned up on time 18:00 Sat down on what we thought was our reserved table I got our drinks then to be told by the bar staff that that table was reserved I replied yes for us she told me she had made a mistake on the booking and the whole area was booked out,as you can imagine I was not happy, told me she could find us another table in the bar which I refused because it was packed and no table's seemed empty. She didn't really apologise bearing in mind she took the booking and my phone number and I was the first on the page! Not sure if we would call it our local now which is a shame.Getting a drink in there sometimes is not easy as they only serve one end of the bar!!

Nelsons The best place to eat and drink in Blandford.They have just finished work on the rear garden it looks fantastic.The pub is really community conscious putting on music events monthly.I had Sunday dinner there,the ingredients were fresh the meat tender ...Loved it

I have been wanting to try the Steak evening experience for a while and had the perfect opportunity last weekend to celebrate my birthday. My partner and me were treated to 2 delicious steaks cooked to perfection, served with fluffy, crispy chips, juicy mushrooms and onion rings,and a crispy side salad. We took advantage of the offer of a bottle of wine as a part of the deal and were really impressed with the choice that the barman suggested.The service was excellent, with an added touch of a candle and flowers on the table making it feel special. The barman was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and made the whole experience really enjoyable. We are both looking forward to repeating this evening again soon.

Visited during our holiday, it was dog friendly with nice staff. The chicken goujons, mozzarella sticks and chips were all great. My only complaint is that they put lemon in the tap water and I really hate bits of lemon floating in my drink but apart from that had a really great meal!

Nelson's is our local place to go and meet our friends. the family who run it try and make everyone welcome,good food,the new steak nights Thurs Friday and Saturday ,we went last Saturday and had a brilliant steak , would definitely recommend,very good value.Well worthwhile visit.also the garden is fantastic a lovely place to relax. you can get

Visited today on entering a friendly greeting from all the staff . Great service ! A special occassion to say goodbye to a great man Martin . I've been here in Blandford now for about 3 years. I've watched pubs close down re-open and close again however, the management at Nelsons have managed to not only re ignite interest in this dwindling part of town but also establish a great reputation for food Drink and also live entertainment.I've attended a few of these and every time the staff have been friendly and knowlegble about their stock.The food is always well prepared the Beer excellent and the Live Jazz heaven..definitely a jewel in the crown for North Dorset

Had a family lunch whilst on holiday. Been to blandford and surrounding pubs for many many years, but this was our first visit.

A lovely friendly traditional pub. Food was cooked to order. Hot, fresh seasonal vegetables - not frozen, delicious food. Steak & ale pie with fresh veg & beef lasagne with salad & garlic bread. Would highly recommend if your in the area. Good choice of ale & ciders too. Definitely worth a second visit

I am originaly from here but haven't stepped foot in nelsons for many,many years.last time coming here in 2002/3 and back then it was a dive with the previous owners who let it go to pot.i came in here on the recommendation of my father as there were new owners and it was refurbished.i have to say they have done an outstanding job.decor is rustic,food absolutly lovely and bar staff freindly with wonderful service.needless to say if anyone comes to blandford please do stop by here 1st and stay here for your evenings.it's by far the best place in this town.i will be back on my next visit ❤

Friendly and efficient staff, excellent beer garden, decent food. What's not to like? Blandford may not be the social centre of Dorset but this is definitely the best pub in town.

We are new to Blandford and have spent the last few weeks trying all the local watering holes and eateries that the bright lights of Blandford has to offer, The Nelson has definitely become a firm favourite!! The pub is a family business and it shows, the staff are smiley, chatty, efficient and clearly/righty proud of their little oasis! The food, whilst not nouveau cuisine (please forgive me guys!) IS simple, tasty, freshly prepared and served with a smile! I would also like to add that the walled beer garden and it’s Roses are simply Stunning, the care and attention that goes into making it such a beautiful and relaxing space is obvious and it pays off... we have been known to stay all day in the same spot! Well done guys, you are great!!

Absolutely fabulous service. Adam the bar man was so helpful and attentive. Food was amazing. Friday nights with both amber and Adam are hilarious, such good fun.

Thought this would be our pub of choice for the weekend but...what a disappointment the beer was. In a group of discerning real ale drinkers, excited by the options. Started with Ringwood 49er. Consensus was "alright but not brilliant". On the premise that one beer does not make a pub, all four of us chose another. I had Fullers London Pride and again the result was "Meh!". We felt that the pub had everything going for it but the beer management left a lot to be desired. Maybe clean the pipes out occasionally. A shame really, as we had planned to eat for the evening but decided to go elsewhere

Popped in for Valentines day for a meal with the Mrs. Food was lovely and the service was stellar as ever. Ive been to the pub countless times but never tried the food before and would defiantly recommend popping in for a pint and a bite to eat.

Popped in here for a Sunday lunch only to be very disappointed. All of the veg appeared to of been boiled including the parsnips and the leeks? They completely forgot the roast potatoes which were totally under cooked when they arrived. The beef was also over cooked for my taste and was even hard in places. My wifes small stuffing ball was so hard that she couldn't even cut it! Gravy was a bit watery and not very tasty, certainly was not worth the £10.50 price. At least the staff were friendly and helpful.

I have been to this place four or five times for a couple of beers and a meal. I have always found the place friendly with better than average pub food and some good beers at a reasonable price, Good value and I would recommend it

Looked like they had a few large parties in, but service was very slow. We had to ask for the menu’s, and then ask someone to take our order.

This place is now the Cheese and Ale House though I wasn't offered a platter of cheese, there was no cheese to sample on the bar and no cheese only menu that I could see..

Nelsons ale and cheese house blandford. Up hill on outskirts of the town. Simple Sunday menu of roast, lasagne or quiche. Great ale selection...roast was excellent with just right qty, delicious cheesy quiche. Lovely staff. Would definitely return.

Went with friends for a birthday celebration. The food is excellent, I had vegetarian lasagne, my friend had beef lasagna and the guys had steak and ale pie. Loads of Veg or salad with the meals. All home made lovely food and the prices were exceptionally great value for money. In fact the best prices in Dorset and I have eaten in a lot of places

Used to go to this pub quite regularly for Sunday carvery but it has now changed hands and called in here to look at food menu as wanted to book a table for 4 later on in the week but was not impressed with the prices so decided not to book. Also although the place has been spruced up a bit, there was very few people in the pub which should have been a bit busier. Need to lower their prices as too dear for a local pub.

Nelsons has gone through many changes in the last 20+ years, but we are now in a period of revival! Ate there with friends last night and it delivered exactly what it advertises - local pub, great atmosphere, delicious pub grub. Add to this a lovely garden area and attentive staff (+ very generous portions) and you have a great local night out. Really good value for money!

After a long appointment, miles away we decided to treat ourselves to dinner out before returning home. We could not have chosen a better place. We were greeted by happy,friendly staff, and a happy vibrant atmosphere. The service was efficient, and we soon had our drinks, followed shortly by our meals. We both ordered Lasagne, which we could not fault. All in all a really great visit. We will most definitely be returning!

An excellent pub/restaurant with great food and super service! The pub is fully stocked with guest beers and all the spirits, we were made to feel welcome straight away and the staff couldn't do enough to help!The chilly cheese fries rule!

We ate dinner here in June 2016. We were slightly perturbed by the percentage of Terrible reviews but noted they were pre-refit.Food: The food is pub-fare but with a variety of pies too. I had a chicken, tarragon and mushroom pie with vegetables – served in a bowl with the pie lidded added – great taste! Also the portions of vedge were generous and well presented. My dining companions went with the chicken goujons and burger in a bun – all very well done and filling.Service: Very pleasant staff. Fast service on the food.Other: I hadn’t visited pre-refit but it’s been done well IMHO. It retains the low beams (you will have to duck if you are over 6 feet tall). Toilets are also refitted and clean. There’s a really nice garden, mainly laid to decking, with a large rose bed and pots of various bedding plants – really colourful and a great effort on behalf of the owners. Although the pub is on the busy (for Blandford) Salisbury Road, the garden is very quiet. Recommended and will return.

Four of us went for a meal after hearing about the refurbishment. The staff were very friendly... the food arrived quickly and was good honest and tasty pub food. The surroundings were really nice and the atmosphere was lovely. I would definitely recommend this place for an evening out.

Just back from a lovely, family Easter Saturday supper at the newly refurbished Nelson's Cheese and Ale House. The classic pub food menu had plenty of choice, everyone declared their choice delicious and clearly home cooked with personal touches. The atmosphere was warm and buzzy with an authentic local pub ambience. You could feel the personal stamp and service from the Martin family who now run it. Recommended!

It was okay, friendly, clean bathroom all newly refurbished. Too much vaping going on at the bar, garden looked nice but it was a cold day so stayed indoors a bit chilly.

had an early evening meal which was very good typical pub food but the service was excellent my friend wanted a salad which wasnt on the menu but the chef came out and spoke to us and made a beautiful prawn salad for my friend extremely good service would highly recommend this pub

Eight of us went last Saturday night to celebrate a birthday.Despite it being a busy eveninga table was reserved for us,we all had different meals but the food came out in a reasonable time,and was more than acceptable.Prices where reasonable,service was good..

Popped in to the Nelson on the off chance of a Sunday roast. Very impressed 3 different meats on offer plus 3 different sized plates. We had medium sized beef roasts. Beef was carved from a joint & the roasties were home cooked. Plenty to eat & a good selection of veg. Sweet selection was good. Wine was good. Coffee was good. Staff were very pleasant & attentive.An all round pleasant experience.Congratulations to the new team.Congratulations to the new team there.

I have read some of the reviews of this establishment and the older ones certainly do not reflect the ambience and friendliness of the place. The pub is now run by a friendly and efficient family who have been in the pub business for a number of years. After a major refurbishment, the pub is everything you would expect from a typical English pub. Currently they do not offer food but soon will. When they took over, the kitchen was apparently not up to their required standards. Now that the refurbishment is complete we can expect to enjoy a wholesome home cooked mel soon!Having recently moved into the area, Nelsons Cheese and Alehouse is now my "local".

Being an ale lover I thought this would be perfect for me.. However when entering and feasting my eyes on a line up of lager and 1 ale I should have known this was not the case. However I thought I'd give it the benefit of the doubt.. Big mistake.. By the time the pint was within 10 inches of my lips all I could smell was an overwhelming stench of egg.. And after 1 sip I swiftly departed... With a slight feeling that I won't be returning.

I must inform you that we have never eaten there. I wish to let you know however that the establishment is closed and they are looking for new tenants to upgrade it and take it over. It is in dire need of a complete renovation as it is dark and dingy and looks like something from Nelsons time.

It's cheap and cheerful in what can be an expensive town and so I say "More power to your one elbow, Lord Nelson."If you need a decent pint and a quick meal at a very fair price, this is the place for you. If you're loking for haute cuisine and starched linen then please go elsewhere and pay £50.The new landlord clearly has plans to improve and promote the place. Good luck!

Me and my wife both ordered fish and chips, my wife's fish was full of bones and was very cold, very disappointed
