Sunday lunch time, all they had on the menu is roast for adults, not much of a wait for the food, potatoes were hard, rest of it was tasteless. We got the bill and was about £150, we noticed it was pricey for 7 of us and calculated our meals, they had added an extra £22 tip, they said it was optional but if we did not calculate it they would have got extra money, just think of how many people they must've got extra money of.

Had dinner here last night with friends, a lovely village, locals pub with exceptional food. Between us we had the ducking, beef casserole and steak, all very good, plenty of flavour and well presented. Service was good, as made to feel very welcome and welcome from moment we stepped through the door. A great experience and great value for money.

I will start by saying the restaurant did reduce our bill and throw in a few free extras but we were very surprised by the quality and portioning of the food. At the time the cafe was very quiet but the staff seemed a little bit chaotic. Orders not being put through properly, items missed off and not knowing what beer they had available. A couple of us ordered the chicken burger (£13) and my son had the kids version (£8.50) but his came with chips. I was pretty shocked when we both received exactly the same sized portion. A small bun, 1/2 a small chicken fillet and one piece of lettuce, not exactly worth £13. The staff did even comment that they there was an issue but still felt it was fine to serve and just expect people to pay. The pizzas were but ok but again surprised when we we charged £3 for 2-3 sliced olives as an extra. We've eaten at many other places up and down the coast and based on our experience we would not return.

We went for dinner with friends and children last week – what a letdown. Having visited several times before for dinner, and after staying for five nights last summer, we’d come to expect genuinely good, authentic food and service. We were really looking forward to returning under the new ownership of Ainsworth & co, but the experience fell far short. We ordered our food and drinks in the lounge on arrival, but before we’d fairly started our drinks, we were ushered through to the dining area because the food was apparently ready. The piri piri chicken escalope turned up alone on the plate – no garnish, no sides, just a piece of chicken topped with a pink sauce and cold, uncooked chorizo on top. Another pot of the same sauce came on the side. It looked and tasted like it had been pre-cooked, microwaved, and unceremoniously served. Our friends ordered the carrot salad, which – at around £24 – featured just three small carrots. The kids’ tomato pasta was gloopy and sad-looking, clearly reheated. The burgers were slightly better, but still small and underwhelming. We don’t mind paying high prices for quality food, but this wasn’t it. Given how quickly everything arrived and the poor presentation, it’s hard to believe anything was freshly made. It felt more like a chain restaurant experience – but at triple the cost. To make matters worse, the place (mainly the lounge area) was overwhelmed with the smell of cheap room freshener. Scented candles had been placed everywhere, creating an overpowering, artificial atmosphere. A few would have done the job – but this was excessive. On the positive side, the front desk staff were friendly, and the drinks were good. Until the kitchen seriously improves both the quality and value of the food, I wouldn’t recommend going back.

We had passed this fish and chip place a few times always busy , so we decided on our last evening we would have a treat . Staff so friendly and polite a lovely welcome on entering. We ordered two small cod and chips , a good size considering it was small . Absolutely fabulous so tasty and the fish was cooked perfectly. We visit Anglesey a lot and my husband and I agreed these fish and chips were far tastier . Highly recommend you will not be disappointed.

Have just wasted £32 on an utterly tasteless breakfast. 35 mins for food to arrive, miserable staff. Dreadful experience.

Service was very slow. Took 30 minutes before anyone asked if we'd like drinks (considered leaving but other places were full and we were out for a birthday). Some of our sides and drinks never arrived but they still tried to include the drinks on our initial bill. Probably will never go again which is a shame since the food and location is lovely and we are regularly in the area.

The staff were friendly and efficient. the real ale was well kept and I was impressed with the variety of non-alcoholic drinks. The reason I've given this review only three stars was the food. My wife had a chicken flat bread with some rocket and mozzarella which was a cold dish rather than the hot one that my wife expected. I had, what was called a Croque Madame, but instead of a crisply toasted ham and gruyere sandwich topped with a fried egg, what I received was a seemingly untoasted ham sandwich with some creamy stuff, which didn't have much taste topped with a fried egg. We've been visiting this lovely pub on and off for about forty years or more and this was the worst meal I've ever had here. I'm other meals served here are better, but the ones we had were not at all good. It's such a shame as I don't like giving poor reviews, especially as the Golden Lion is an old favourite of mine.

My friend and I wanted to have ethical poos with fairtrade toilet paper. This place doesn’t have a customer toilet. I am disappointed.

We popped in here for a cream tea and had a bad feeling when we ordered….We spent £36 on 3 cream teas and a muffin and asked for some tap water as well as we were parched. The waitress declined this and said we had to buy water. To be fair the staff were good but we just felt we had been had over which when subsequently reading other reviews on here appears to be a common theme. Anyway the cream teas came and they were almost comical for £10.75! No butter, a plastic portion of bookers Jam and a very small amount of clotted cream in a paper sauce pot! My advice would be to go elsewhere…

Not been here for a while, and have good memories of the previous little Avalon many years ago. Good range of choices on the menu. I had the mac and cheese with garlic bread - served with a little salad - it was excellent and tremendous value at a tenner. One real ale - Doom - which was fine. Will definately be back later in the week.
