We dropped in for a family meal during a flying visit to port Issac whilst holidaying in Cornwall. The food was good, no issues. The oysters were particularly good, I’d recommend small plates mixing a few dishes. The highlight was the young waitress who was very engaging, she was very attentive and happy to chat away despite being very busy. My 9 year old was very excited to discover someone else who enjoys anime. All staff were friendly and helpful in this restaurant. We were just over £100 for family of five, it was reasonable.

The pup is a superb example of a centuries o cornish fishermans pub on the harbour. The building itself is in need of some cleaning and TLC but survives due to its location and lack of competition in this picturesque historical fishing village also famous for the filming of Doc Martin. For me food portions are very small and highly overpriced. Ok for a pint but can get very busy in peak holiday months.

Visited The Golden Lion today for Sunday lunch, absolutely lovely ! The landlady was very friendly and cheerful, she had saved us a table with a beautiful sea view which was great. The young waitress was also very helpful and attentive. The food was first class and good value for money. Thank you to everyone at The Golden Lion, we have already booked for a return visit.

The table was not clean, the meal took half an hour to arrived although we were told there would be a delay, but only after having placed our order. When they did arrive both fish dishes lacked flavour and were extremely disappointing. When the waitress gave us our bill she did ask if we enjoyed our meal, but seemed unable to address our response.

Really poor experience. Totally ignored when we first arrived by all the bar staff, despite having a booking. When asked what beers they had on tap, the waitress said 'Why would I know, I don't drink beer?' Table had no view, could have been anywhere, and even though there were tables with lovely sea views, we weren't allowed to move to them. Understand that someone might have booked, but other people arrived they were allowed to sit there and hadn't booked? We had come to give our friends from Germany an authentic fish and chip experience, but they had run out of chips. Food was so average, despite prices (£17 for fish and chips?). Waitress then accidentally dropped our tray of drinks, which of course totally understnad happens, but we used our napkins to help mop up which were never replaced and they were so slow to replace that our starters then came before the drinks. Service was slow, didn't get ketchup/mayo etc until we had basically finished the meal. Atmosphere was really weird, tables so pushed together we had to keep moving our chairs so waitresses could squeeze past. Overpriced, wouldn't recommend.

Lovely pub in the heart of Port Isaac. Had pre-booked due to bringing the dogs with us but was left waiting a short while for it to be ready, staff were helpful enough. The food we ordered was very nice, beer battered onion rings were really nice and the burger was good also. The location and views are stunning from this pub. The menu looked great but sadly the food was very mediocre, especially given the price. The children’s puddings were sachets of baby food style jelly. The main issue though that lets this place down is the service. The waitress was rude. She rolled her eyes at me when I asked for a wine list. She just put all drinks on the table in front of one person and walked off. When we asked for anything she almost tutted in annoyance. When our plates were finally cleared, we asked for desert menus, to be told the kitchen was closed, no warning no apology. A real shame, as this pub is a gem in a special location. I suggest having a nice drink and dining elsewhere.

We had a table reserved for 21st July at 7pm. Upon arrival there was no one on front of the house so we went to the bar. There were 2 girls who have mastered the ability of completely ignoring customers. One was pouring a coke and continued staring at the glass as it filled. She managed to ask a local if they were ok and yet she refused to make any eye contact or smile or say "I'll be with you in a moment" The other one cleaned the bar, pottered and wasted time and ignored us . Then the manager turned up and was disinterested, he tried to palm us off with the 2 equally disinterested bar staff.. it was a conspiracy of silence. We're not expecting miracles, it was busy, but don't want to be ignored Our waitress was lovely but my roast potatoes were almost black and I couldn't have any extra gravy due to the kitchen being too busy. Other than that it was very good. Excellent views

The only reason this is not a 5 star review is because the men's toilet is in disrepair and isn't safe for young children. We decided to book somewhere for lunch on BH Monday and this place looked good both for reviews and menu and still had late availability. On arrival we were sat upstairs with a nice view of the harbour but then had to wait a while before any menus were brought. We were surprised how quiet it was for a BH. Asked for the local Rock gin to be told they had "run out"... Came to order food to be told they didn't have most of the fish dishes - they could have mentioned this when we arrived!! In the end we ordered 4 "small plates" between us (being assured this would be enough). However the "small plates" where actually "small bowls" and very overpriced for what was on them. The smoked haddock chowder was very good (although the "focaccia" wasn't really focaccia), the other 3 dishes were OK. They had a very good draft cider choice although the prosecco was very overpriced. Overall it was very underwhelming and not great value at all. Would not return.

We had the most delicious meal at the Golden Lion in Port Isaac. I had heard good things and they lived up to it. Service was spot on-friendly and laid back. The burger was the best my son had ever had. Wish you would share your recipe of the sauce-he thought maybe it had mustard in it. I think any burger he has in the future will be rated by how good this one was. We also had the fish and chips. Omg-the fish was so flakey and batter so good. And the mushy peas were done really well. My husband wish he had that recipe. Thank you for a lovely meal that we will always remember!

Lovely location to have dinner. Food here was sadly quite average, especially for the price. You generally would find somewhere in this type of location to be more expensive, but the food was sub par and didn't live up to the price or location. Pasta overcooked and seafood linguine lacking something to bring it a live so to speak. Service was poor, as it felt that you were an inconvenience and customer service seemed lacking. No menus easily available outside or in. We wondered looking for one and then appeared to be scolded for walking in to the pub upstairs seating area. The two staff members we encountered were not very friendly and appeared that they did not want to be there. Gorgoeus views. Just hope that others have a better experience. We came for a roast dinner - one and a half rock solid roast potatoes each, a huge reheated Yorkshire pudding which would’ve been quite impressive in it’s day, the nut roast resembled dog food, undercooked red cabbage, meat was ok, gravy was good, stuffing inoffensive but not very inspiring and lastly the food was not particularly hot when served. My wife had the fish and chips and hardly ever finishes a meal, but did on this occasion. Highly recommended for a pub dinner/lunch. There is no where to park… if you don’t know this about port Isaac then you probably shouldn’t attempt to come here! You will need to park 5-10mins out of the port and walk in.

We arrived in Port Isaac on a Saturday in November and found that most eateries in the area had shut down for the winter. Fortunately the Golden Lion was open and we headed for there on a wet Sunday with a view to eating. The place was packed, being the only place serving traditional pub grub in town (there are other, more up market establishments open too). We arrived wet, cold and bedraggled and couldn’t get a table. We managed to get a drink and were pointed towards the basement bar, a bar in the basement. We headed down and found ourselves in a scruffy storage-like area with no heating and/or atmosphere. We don’t stay long…. We did, however, book a table for later that day to come back for Sunday dinner. We returned in the early evening and sat in The Snug, perfectly comfortable and acceptable, if a little cramped. My wife had the roast beef and I had the roast pork; both reasonable meals, albeit at the top of the price range for a Sunday dinner in our opinion. Generally the pub is a busy place, seats are of a premium at this time of year and there’s a constant flow of customers coming and going. We did return for drinks on two further occasions but didn’t eat here again, such was our level of enthusiasm. To be fair, we didn’t eat upstairs in the dedicated restaurant so our review is limited to our own experiences downstairs and in the basement. One observation, washing glasses under a running tap in the snug and leaving them to drain on the bar, in glass machine baskets, isn’t the best look. If you’ve got a glass washing machine (why else have the baskets?) then please use it and don’t clutter the bar up with detritus, also ensuring a good level of hygiene.

We, four of us, were really looking forward to our roast meals having read the delicious sounding menu. Unfortunately, two of our four meals were off the menu, the bar staff were unattentive and the meals were not, in our opinion, up to the standard portrayed in the menu. We did complain but were just told "sorry"

Well worth a stop in for a drink & live music on Friday / Sunday but go upstairs to the restaurant and all ambience is lost and the food is very average.
