A rare sunny afternoon in October. We ate outside in the garden, where the service was excellent. Location and atmosphere is great, hard not to be on a warm afternoon in the sun. The fish and chips were delicious, only knocked a star off because of the garden peas. They should be mushy peas, we all know that! 👍

Had a delicious seafood dinner last night- combined their famous delicious Crab Claw shared starter with a scallop Special & was the best meal out anywhere this summer- even compared to a specialist fish restaurant at double the price. Staff were lovely & freshly added pieces of quality furniture & lit candles made a lovely fresh feel to the place. Highly recommend!!

My partner and I (from Kent) came to this pub every night for almost a week when staying at the Pentewan sands campsite and it was our favourite part of the day. The staff were really friendly, the pub was clean yet cozy, we sat outside for most of the evenings as there was a lovely outside seated area, however we did sit inside whilst it was raining. i definitely recommend going for a pint if your in the area, and can say if we visit Cornwall again we will visit again.

A wonderful little oldie worldie English pub. The service was very good and the food even better. The Venison pie was out of this world. Rather amazing and dog friendly. We've been walking past this place on ourt dog walk on and off for three years and never got round to dropping in sometime, so this week we decided to change that and called in at lunchtime. Being mid November we took advantage of the winter parking rate in the village of 50p for 3 hours, had a walk along the sunny beach and dropped into The Ship. Warm welcome and plenty of tables to choose from. We opted for the Clawsome Fries, which is a sharing starter and decided we'd order more after that if we wanted anything else. The fries have melted cheddar, white crab meat, creme fraiche and chives, tiger prawns, sour cream, crispy onions and jalapenos - and what a taste sensation it was! The portion was massive and amazing value - not only didn't we need anything else for lunch we only managed a sandwich each for our evening meal. Great value, really tasty and with a menu full of interesting ideas - can't wait to try some more of them! I was also pleased to see a variety of vegetarian dishes on the menu as my son doesn't eat meat but I'm sure there'd be something here to tempt him. We'll be back. Update late February 2024. Called in for a sandwich lunch; we'd been before and it was great. welcome was laid back rather than friendly We opted for the crab sandwich each, not cheap but a treat we thought. My advice - don't order the crab sandwich! The bread is very thick but the filling consists of very little crab meat with lots of creme fraishe - if you didn't know it was a crab sandwich you wouldn't guess it from the watered down flavour. On our third visit it came across as noty too good and the staff seemed preoccupied. I live less than 5 miles from the place, just wish they'd try a little harder

We went to the ship back in June while staying at pentewan sands, we went for Sunday lunch and it did not disappoint! The veggie walnut roast was one of the best nut roasts I have ever had! My Husband and Dad also were equally impressed with their more traditional Sunday roasts. All meals were served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and an impressive amount of veg. You know you have had a good sunday lunch when you can't manage a pudding. Its advisable to book in advance as they get booked up for Sunday lunch in the summer and can't accommodate walk ins on the day (although they do offer the normal menu outside). Luckily this was easily done online, thankfully.

When we entered the ship Inn all the tables were apparent booked from 5pm onwards. Even though it was a bit chilly we decided to eat outside. I entered the premises several times either to get drinks or go to the toilet, between 530 and 8 pm the tables were empty. My husband had burger and chips which were cold, I had fish and chips which were warm. It was supposed to be cod really I don't thinks so the taste was awful. It a shame the food didn't taste as good or as much as it cost. Obviously everyone has different taste so try if you dare.

Whilst the food was okay, it wasn't as great as previous visits. The gluten free fish and chips were only just warm chips, hot fish but soggy batter (only crisp on the ends) with very nice fresh peas. Certainly not bad enough to send back, but mildly disappointing from previous high quality visits and food served on chipped plates and bowls does make you question the quality for the price of the meal. The Ship is a lovely pub in a lovely village with such hardworking staff and I hope the sparkle returns soon.

Great garden, good beers. Awful food. We both had double burgers priced at 16.50 which is about standard. Sadly they were the worst burgers I have ever had served in a pub. They were probably bought from farmfoods. Honestly had better quality burgers at football burger vans. Im honestly shocked they are charging 16.50 and serving that meat. Must be making a killing and laughing at us. Very disappointed.

I’ve gone with the average here as my husband had the double burger and said it was lovely, definitely 5/5. He really rated it as possibly the best burger he’s had in a pub (and there’s been a few!) However I went with the Sri Lankan cod coconut curry which was possibly the most unpleasant thing I’ve ever eaten. No hint of any coconut flavours, it was sour and very bland. There have been very few meals I’ve not eaten anyway but this was one of them. Whilst we were eating I heard a couple at the next table discussing what to order and the wife said she wouldn’t make the mistake of ordering the Sri Lankan curry again so I don’t think it was just me. Aside from the hit and miss food the pub is lovely and the staff were nice enough though nobody came back at any point to ask how our food was or we could have let them know. I’m sure they could tell when they cleared the plates.

Dissapointed with the service , its gone down hill , booked for 730 pm , arrived 730pm informed someone sat on the table, no problem we can sit on one of the many empty tables , not a problem. No wait for them to leave.(they were asked to vacate ) sat down with menus, Are you ready to order? Sorry no chance to view the menu yet. Well kitchen closes at 8! Okay , some pre warning when we booked would of been handy but no problem give us a moment. Food served , great , plates cleared. Server obviously waiting to leave as lady waiting for him at his station. So there was no offer of seeing a dessert menu , or enquiring would we like one, which we would of ! Another table was still on mains and they called someone over to order desserts . I had to go ask if we were allowed another drink, it was 8.10 pm on a friday evening ! Then the staff left , noone came to our table again, there were 2 tables left and 2 people at the bar at this point. We looked around , went to the bar in the adjoining bar . Asked for a bill , oh didnt realise you were there or any outstading bills …. That was pretty evident by the level of service .Left Very dissapointed , could of easily walked out without paying! Standards have slipped here , service , sauces … cheap and plastic sachets , no atmosphere , such a shame as its a regualr spot for a catch up, my previous experience at lunch time a few weeks before was very different to this one. Hence the return visit.

Lovely pub overlooking the harbour. Pleasant staff. I had a rare rump steak for lunch and it was superb. From a good butcher, and PERFECTLY cooked in kitchen. My partner had the pork belly and that was good too. Only complaints.... Pop music on radio and too loud, and there were chips scattered on floor that weren't picked up, (even though not a busy time). So improvements on turning down the music and on the housework. Otherwise, its 100 per cent. Food is VERY good.

Lunch stop for 4 adults and a dog on a hot day. Able to sit inside with the dog which was helpful given the heat. Menu looked expensive with the cheapest sandwich £10 going up to £20 for a crab sandwich which is the priciest I have seen this summer outside of a celebrity chef restaurant! Island cafe at Looe charges £11.95 for a packed white meat sandwich with side salad and crisps plus an incredible view. Decided to stick with it and we had ham egg and chips, scampi and chips , beef brisket ciabatta and the house special ham sandwich. Excellent quality ingredients especially the thick ham and tasty brisket. With 4 soft drinks it came to £56 for 4 which I thought was reasonable given the quality and portion size.

Being local, we stopped off on our way home from Mevagissey for a quick half. We weren’t greeted at all. Not one muscle movement in any form of a smile from the staff. Only to be told “don’t sit on the large table, as it’s reserved!”. We didn’t. We sat at a small table (there was 9 of us) that hadn’t been cleared; only to be told by the same staff member (mousy blonde) that she needed to clear the table. My dad made a joke about him getting a job there, as he was helping her clear. She made no interaction with him at all, no smile, zilch. We all embarrassingly looked at each other and grimaced. Already feeling uncomfortable at being there. We ordered the drinks greeted with the same attitude, by the same member of staff. We were then told by another male member of staff (scruffy unshaven chap), that we had to vacate by 5pm, no apologies- nothing. My sister said “it’s ok, we’re only having a quick drink” and his reply was “you’ve got 25 minutes!”. Honestly if we hadn’t just spent over £50.00 at the bar we would have left and gone to, Into The Woods. We were stared at the whole time we were there by the staff. We left at 5.05pm… every single table at the lower end of the pub, where we were sat, were still all empty. As we left, we walked past two or three of the exact same scouring staff, having a cigarette outside the front of the pub. Not one said goodbye. I’ve always liked the Ship, and meet friends there all year round, but it’s not what it used to be. I certainly won’t be visiting again. And will head to, into the woods or Charlestown. Just a note for management here also.. The staff should be told not to groom themselves in the mirror in the dining area, it’s not hygienic.

We have been having our Sunday lunch quite regularly. As our last experience in St tudy changed management and had different ideas What the ship has for us is the vegetarian Wellington, not found anywhere in the local area. What the ship lacks (in the retro pub refurb in inverted comers ) is the friendly welcome and a feeling of a local establishment that leaves it's welcome where it matters hospitality and food.

Conveniently situated next to the highway. Plentiful free parking. Super-friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are spacious. Comfortable beds. Nice bathrooms. The biggest downside was awful wi-fi. The free version was poor and the payable 'ultimate' version no better. So much as we saw many pluses, if we have no wi-fi we can't work, so can't really come back.

Went last Xmas Eve as a treat. Was appalled. The sprouts were undercooked, not to be confused with el Dante. Tasteless dinner sadly. No flavour. Not great. You go to these places paying good money expecting a superb experience but sadly not. I need to stay home and cook top food that could be served to any experienced chef and applauded
