We had a wonderful few days recently with friends staying at the Longcross. We found the Hotel very friendly, clean and comfortable. The Hotel have done a good job keeping everybody safe. The food was excellent and the superb staff were very accommodating. We loved the position of the Hotel and it had lovely gardens, which would be great to enjoy when the weather was good. The rooms were very roomy with a large bed. Thank you for making our stay great.

Service not good. Went for Sunday lunch, meat turned up,and over 10 mins wait for veg. The beef was impossible to cut, so took it home for my dog. When asked if everything was ok, I said no the meat is too tough. I was ignored not only by the waitress but also the manager. I would not recommend this place. P

We went to this beautiful hotel on Sunday for roast dinner on my birthday. We arrived at 12-30 and sat at a lovely table, in the conservatory, which had a lovely view of the sea. It overlooked onto a balcony, which then looked onto the gardens and sea view, beautiful. We had a very friendly man bought us the menus, a lady came to get us some drinks, then another lady took our order for our food. We all had roast lamb, which was delicious, the vegetables were broccoli, carrots, leeks, cabbage with cheese sauce on. We had mint sauce, we all finished our dinner, which is a good sign how good it was. The only tip I could give is maybe we should of been offered Yorkshire, which I know goes with roast beef, but most people like a Yorkshire with their Sunday roast. Maybe just given the choice as most places do offer them. We had lovely choice of puddings, my sister had crumble, my brother in law had raspberry sorbet and I had pastacchio meringue with clotted cream and salted caramel ice cream. We had a bottle of wine between us, my brother in law had coffee. We came out feeling really satisfied with this beautiful place and food. Well worth a visit.

We stayed for one night on way back from holiday on south coast of Cornwall. The hotel is a beautiful period building with lovely features that have been incorporated into the refurbishment. We enjoyed a very warm welcome and introduction to the hotel. The staff were most helpful in arranging a taxi for us to visit Port Isaac for lunch in Outlaws’s Fish Kitchen (well worth a visit)! The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. We enjoyed our Cornish full breakfast in the dining area with its panoramic views of the countryside and sea beyond. The gardens are a ‘maze’ of delight and well worth a stroll around.

Really impressed with everything about this place. We stumbled upon it by accident having walked for 5 hours along the cliff path from Polzeath, desperate for food, a beer and a sit down and this was the only place for miles around, but we’re so glad we found it! The location is outstanding with the most beautiful views from the terrace, and the interior of the comfy bar area, very nice. The gardens are beautiful and there is even a little play area. The staff were so welcoming, really helpful and friendly and dogs were allowed which was a huge bonus as our pooch was tired out! They had stopped serving lunch by the time we arrived but we could have the savoury scones which were delicious. We had one of each, smoked salmon and cream cheese and ham and chutney. We loved it here so much that we brought the rest of our holiday party 2 days later.

Me and my wife came here on the first night of our honeymoon, in Cornwall, after being recommended to come by a close friend, who knows about food. We were welcomed by Julya and Arnie (not that one!) Upon arrival, and were promptly seated on a table overlooking the beautiful view of the sea. On this night we were lucky enough to have come in when the head chef, Andy, was offering a taster menu. We had 9 courses in total and were totally stuffed by the end. Apparently this was a one off, but will be something they are going to be offering monthly over the coming season. I've had taster menus in some really top restaurants, and this was easily on a par with them, but at a much lower cost. Really interesting flavour combinations that came together to create food that looked great, but more importantly tasted truly incredible. This trip to Cornwall we already had accommodation organised, but after speaking to a couple of the guests, will will be booking a room next time, as I gather the rooms are beautiful. We've got family in the area, and they have already booked in their tables to have their turn. 5* experience all round, and at a fraction of the cost!

Regular visitors to port Isaac, we have always looked forward to and enjoyed coming to Longcross for a few days rest and relaxation. Unfortunately we were not overly impressed this time around. The disappointment was with the restaurant. Breakfast - the cold buffet of assorted meats, pastries and cheeses was very good. The hot breakfast menu was a disaster. Smoked Haddock on rice(?) Not wanting this, my husband requested poached smoked Haddock but received the Haddock flaked and extremely dry, set on a bed of awful, dry, undercooked rice - with a poached egg placed on top. It looked terrible, was bland and generally awful. Needless to say it was not eaten. The waiter did offer to change the meal having realised a mistake had been made but we did not want to wait another half an hour for the correct dish to be served. Needless to say, our breakfasts following this consisted of the cold buffet and toast. A couple of days into our stay we mentioned we would like to bring some friends to the restaurant for lunch and was this possible? (Having done the same thing only a year ago - and having had a very nice lunch served that time) We were told it would be fine. On the day I picked up a lunch menu an hour prior to their arrival only to find a very basic choice of burger or scampi served with chips amongst a few other offerings. We do not travel to Port Isaac to eat burgers or fried scampi..! What a disappointment. Needless to say, we arranged to meet our friends elsewhere and enjoyed a fresh seafood lunch. Evening meals - Good but expensive. Starters OK. Mains priced between £17 and £24. Nice menu, good food, cooked and served well - although an hour's wait on one of the evenings followed by the Chef coming out to say sorry but 'I'm training 2 useless *&$@ chefs in there..' The service in the restaurant was average, the waitress was OTT and we felt a little patronising at times. The restaurant was also very cold in the evenings. Views are wonderful (always have been) and rooms are good so unfortunately a very mixed review this time around.

I had dinner here on Thursday night with my wife and had the most amazing 3 course meal. The food was most certainly made with love and passion and everything was superbly presented and all made from scratch. Wonderful local Asparagus with a Duck Egg, Charred Cornish Mackerel, followed by a Braised Short Rib of Beef which was steeped in flavour and I had the wonderful Chicken Glazed Cod, Crispy Chicken Skin, Cockles and Seaweed followed by sumptuous Desserts. The Front of House Staff were really helpful explaining what was in each dish, how it was made then followed up by a visit from the Head Chef, Andy, who wanted to make sure the meal was indeed up to expectations. For the caliber of food this is really fantastic value and one of the best meals we have had in a long time!

Charming little hotel with helpful staff. They were one onth from closing for the winter but were still adequately booked. Locals pop in for a drink or two in the cozy bar, and the food is better than average but needs to be tweaked quite a bit. There's a waiter from Portugal who is a bit overly friendly but he certainly adds some colour to the place. The 4 acres of gardens are lovely even though we didn't see them at the best time of year.

Our trip around Cornwall took us to our first hotel. Prior to this we stayed in really excellent B&Bs.; The Longcross Hotel sits in lovely grounds but as we were only staying one night we didn't have time to explore them. The house was impressive, but needed a good spruce up on the inside; carpets were shabby and skirting boards needed attention, there were cat hairs on a velvet covered chair in one of the common areas. We had a large and superficially splendid room on the first floor, with a huge leather couch, TV and a king sized bed (two singles, conjoined). But there were small irritants; we couldn't connect to the wifi, unsurprising given that we had been given the wrong password in the guests' information booklet. When we did get on, the coverage was dire, though probably not the hotel's fault. My other half switched on his bedside lamp which promptly blew. He requested a new bulb and was given one that didn't fit. There was no complimentary drinking water though there was a kettle and tea and coffee. The obvious imperfections of the accommodation were mitigated by the food on offer in the restaurant. The Longcross has a good chef and we were served by an efficient and friendly waiter. We enjoyed a delicious main meal of fillet beef strips in a wonderful sauce accompanied by Dauphinoise potatoes and a selection of beautifully fresh vegetables that were properly al dente. We followed this with sticky toffee pudding and rhubarb crumble; both delicious. The breakfast was good too and this made up, in some way, for an otherwise disappointing experience. Some reviewers have praised the service here, but it wasn't our experience, alas. This hotel needs a bit of money spent on it and its staff need to up their game. But to the restaurant and its staff - top marks.

Ate here as the restaurant looked inviting with splendid sea views. Unfortunately there were very few people in for dinner and we dined alone for the most part. This caused a problem as staff were on top of us and it felt more like a "snatched meal" rather than a pleasant dining experience. The main course offering was very nice and well cooked and presented but pity the scallops, nice as they were came from Scotland rather than locally Cornish. The starters and puddings however failed to deliver. The bar service was that of a pub rather than a nice hotel. For the cost of the evening it should have been rated as average but the main course lifted it a level.

What a lovely place well worth a visit . Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast delishious, I had scrambled eggs with salmon and toast (which you make yourself) and my boyfriend had a fry up , both lovely . Plenty of cereal and yogurts to choose from also and a selection of fresh fruit . My only criticism would be my salmon prob wasn't the freshest as I could not cut or chew some of it so had to leave it . The room itself spotless and beds comfy . Gardens are really lovely and in summer a lovely conservatory and outside seating area . We would most defiantly return . Port Isaac is just around a fifteen min walk , we were very lucky when we got there as the fishermans friends were singing in the bay . There is a shuttle bus service that runs of unable to walk but we didn't use it do I don't know how much it is sorry . The only other thing is I think the kettle cables could be a little longer as you have to stretch it to plug in or place it on the floor , but still s nice touch that you can have cuppa in your room do not complaining .

As the bride and groom for our wedding on the 24th June the Longcross delivered the perfect day. With over 100 guests which filled the hotel we chose the Longcross for its amazing views, brilliant gardens and mix of accommodation. From the start the staff couldn't do enough, whether making sure the bride had everything she needed or making sure breakfast was a delight for all. The staff (especially Jamie, Hannah and Mike) were all standout on the day and Jane made sure things went very smoothly in the run up and during the main event. The food was fantastic... fresh, tasty and lots of it. The Chef made sure everyone had what they wanted and was very friendly in the process. His team catered for various dietary needs and created the perfect high quality spread expected at such an event. The wine was very good as well and the bar well stocked with local and more traditional options. We are sad to hear that the last wedding to take place at the Longcross was ours. With such a location and platform to make it a premier North Cornwall wedding venue, we hope this changes. Fully regenerating the main reception/conservatory and terrace would take the whole hotel to the next level and lead to incredible results. All our guests commented how great the day was and this was in part to the Longcross and their team. We would happily do it all again and are extremely happy with how everything turned out. Our thanks go out to the Longcross for making it a day to remember.

We were out of Polzeath towards Port Issac, late looking for a quick lunch, and saw the sign for "panoramic views" so dropped in. The hotel was quiet mid day, and lunch was offered in a function room, leading on to the terrace with yes, stunning views. Only one other couple there. We ordered a sandwich, soup, and pate. The pate was accompanied by one round of supermarket bread. The egg sandwich had the same supermarket enclosure and the soup with supermarket part-baked crusty roll. The tea was refreshing. Hotel prices for the cheapest ingredients just doesn't really cut it. The hotel looks like a country house couples retreat, but the garden is packed with kids frames. The staff were friendly but we we left with the view this place needs to decide what it is, more than panoramic views. Just not enough to stop by again.

My nephew got married on Saturday, 24th June and all the family were staying at the hotel. We all had a meal together on the Friday night which was fine. On the Saturday we all pitched in to get the room ready for the wedding reception. The wedding planner turned up at 10:00 which was a little late when the wedding was at 12:00. When she turned up she was miserable as sin and clearly in a bad mood. No smiles and very snappy! When we returned from the church for the reception it had started to rain so I took my 87 year old mother into the room. When she us she snapped saying she was trying to keep the room clear. We were not impressed!! Apparently this was the last wedding that she was presiding over for the hotel so you'd think she could grit her teeth and pretend she was happy to be there. Apart from her the rest of the staff, in particular the barmen and the waitresses were delightful and couldn't be more helpful. The rooms were ok but we were in the annexe which was noisy and the people above us were up very early and we could hear every movement. I wouldn't stay there again.

We found this from a leaflet in our holiday apartment. We went in the daytime to view the gardens and have a cream tea. The man on reception was very friendly. The garden was interesting to walk round for half an hour, although the gardener who we said hello to was not at all friendly and gave the impression he didn't want anyone there (we were the only people there), so we came away without the cream tea and continued to nearby Port Gaverne which is a lovely bay owned by the National Trust where we had an enjoyable walk to Doyden Castle (as seen in Doc Martin). Many people have left positive reviews about Longcross so I'll be respectful and say perhaps we just caught the place on a bad day. The hotel itself looked an impressive building from the outside and had sea views from the balcony area which was nice.

Clean, comfortable and spacious room but no atmosphere. The coach house is not attached to the hotel. We paid £90 for bed and breakfast and felt this was a fair price. Breakfast buffet style and cooked breakfast cooked to order, nothing special. Enjoyed the wonderful views from the outside terrace. Gardens were neglected and overgrown. Shame this hotel could be a real gem but in need of some care and upkeep. Service from staff good.

The hotel is comfortable, but in need of some t.l.c. and general attention. The gardens were scruffy and with many overgrown shrubs and climbers was not a joy to walk around. Restaurant in the Conservatory which on a good warm weather day can get too hot to bear. Food nice but not exceptional. Not sure if we would return.

Beautiful gardens and wonderful Cornish views. We stopped for afternoon tea however the service from staff was shocking! Staff were unhelpful and rude. Repeated mistakes with a very basic drinks order for 4 people by a very miserable barman! We sat outside but as the weather changed to rain we asked if we could move inside. Despite the restaurant area being empty staff refused to allow us to do so. Fabulous location, should be wonderful. Let down by service and staff. Sadly our experience was repeated the year before when staff refused to serve cream teas at 2.50pm as they started at 3pm insisting we purchased drinks prior to being served cream teas ten minutes later! Very disappointing as it could be wonderful if it wasn't for the terrible service!

Went to the LongCross Hotel for dinner with friends who had stayed there before 4-5 years ago. The menu was uninspiring Steak, Lamb Shank, Cod and Chips, Crab Salad and a vegetarian option. Managed to persuade waiter to produce the Fish Smokie as a main course. The Sweet potato & Red Pepper soup was OK is a bit gloopy. The other starters were similarly Ok but not special. The main courses were not impressive either 2 x steak, 1 lamb, my Smokie and a Cod. The Cod was awful the batter was soggy to the point of being wet. We didn't bother with sweets. Other things that let the evening down were, Awful background music out of a time warp and the conservatory being cold because doors were left wide open. Come on LongCross you can do better than this!

Stayed 2 nights at the Longcross Court tucked away in the attic! Or at least it seemed to be.Clean room although could do with some TLC. Good breakfast and bar, ate on the Saturday night here as we couldn’t get in anywhere in Port Isaac and they fitted us in. Would stay again.

We went here first on the day of arrival to port Isaac but unfortunately they were full until 9. Definitely a place to book to guarantee a table you wouldn't think it as it's pretty much in the middle of nowhere! We booked the restaurant on the last day of our stay in the area and weren't disappointed. They had a good selection of food on the menu I wanted about 3 dishes but settled on the lobster as I'd never had it before. It came with a salad and potatoes it was very light and delicious. The rest of the table had steak duck and fish which were all tasty and good portion sizes. The waiters were very friendly and I got the last double chocolate cheesecake which was Devine. The rest of the table really enjoyed their puddings and were brilliantly presented on the slate! The views were panoramic and gorgeous to look at whilst eating a lovely meal. Truly enjoyable!

We visited the Longcross for an evening meal. The service was very fast and friendly. The quality of the food was excellent - the four of us ate fish. This was very flavoursome and cooked well. The vegetables were very tasty. A beautiful setting. The evening was very dramatic - as we had sunshine, rain, hail and thunderstorms. A brilliant view from the conservatory

Great food, great staff, very welcoming, lovely relaxing surroundings. The location of Port Isaac is about a mile or two from the Longcross hotel itself so you do need the use of a car, please remember between May and September the two car parks at Port Isaac fill very quickly, so I do advise to go early morning by 8.30 if you want to park.As we stayed for a few days we visited many amazing beach locations just a short drive from the Longcross Hotel which was definately the perfect central location. We were very lucky with the weather all in all it turned out to be a great short break.

Went for a meal on first night as was walking distance from B&B. Food was ordered and then served within minutes so was not obviously not freshly cooked. Meal was ordered and finished within 30 mins. Waiting staff ok but food was below average. It did not help with a number of dead flies being visible and then more alive in the bar area (assume they have an infestation) the toilets also flooded. Would not recommend as a restaurant and would suggest better places to stay as well. Very disappointing and not that cheap

The Spanish waiter was very helpful and friendly. The steak was good too but pork tenderloin was tough. Ordered chicken goujon for our son who exclaimed it was the best he has tasted so far. Amazing view from the restaurant and although the food was not Michelin star quality, it was good enough for us.

Marvelous view of the sunset but fairly average meals. Nice attentive staff and great variety of drinks but the meals were unimaginative. My wife's sticky toffee pudding was probably the worst. Lobster was small and plate filled with huge salad rather than a range of summer vegetables. All in all could be outstanding but food was not.

We had a meal here a week ago. The service was very good: warm and friendly and efficient and, of course, the location is beautiful. We visit North Cornwall regularly and, as a vegetarian, I know it isn't a part of the country which caters particularly well for me (It's a sea food area, after all) so my expectations are realistic. However, I was very disappointed when my options were a starter of cream cheese and mushroom bruschetta followed by cream cheese and mushroom pancakes for the main course. Hardly imaginative. (All the desserts were very creamy as wel) My meat-eating companions reported that the steak they had was fine, without being anything special. So, in conclusion, nice place, nice staff, OK food ...and don't go there if you'd like interesting and varied vegetarian food. Or even some choice.

Joaquin made dining a pleasure. Nice atmosphere. Efficient service. Outstanding view of green pastures and ocean in the distance. Varied menu--changes daily with about 50 percent of the menu repeating the next night. Dinner for two with starter, entree, wine, and dessert about 60 pounds.

Away from the hustle and bustle - Longcross sits atop a hill overlooking the coast. It is a very tranquil retreat. The hotel is a big old house with a few separate buildings around the site with varies accommodation available. The bar is very well stocked- very pleased to see sharps pilsner on tap- best lager in the world 2013!!! The staff were all friendly and enjoyed chatting!! Overall- brilliant!

I stayed here for one night- keen to leave a positive review in response to a very positive stay. The location is ideal- it is based above Port Isaac at the top of a hill, so the views when the sun shines are second to none anywhere in the world!! My room was clean- well appointed and very contemporarily decorated. The staff were brilliant- any questions or demands were met- they asked "if there is anything you require- then ask us " so I did ask and I did get.It is about a 10-15 minute walk down in to Port Issac- where there is some pubs and a couple of good restaurants.I will return!

Good night out with a group of friends. Varied good menu all well cooked and well presented. We had a few problems with a couple of meals being late but still OK.We went there to see the sunset which was described by other members of the party as fantastic but we were disappointed as it was a night of North Coast drizzle !!I suggest this is another restaurant that needs to be tried and hope you get the sunset.

I like long cross, i live locally and go there for a treat.Last night I took my wife out as we have had a busy couple of weeks but I came away wishing I had not bothered. We were ignored on arrival. When we did stand up to be seated a drinks order for a large table took priority to us being seated. We were seated by the door and the views were stunning but the draught from the door were more so. The door was in constant use and when the party from outside held the door open for their slow moving precession to go through followed by the foreign waiter we had had enough. We were all set to leave but ended up sitting at another table, but the whole room was cold.I was not asked if the meal was ok.My wife sat for most of the meal without a drink only when the food came out could I get the attention of a waiter to ask.All in all I wished I had stayed at home and considering the cost of the food and drink it should not be like that. The food was ok we both had steak but no better than I would have got in any one of my local pubs and the plate was loaded up with lose leaf salad like the £1 bags from Asda except the Asda salads are not gritty.I am struggling to say how disappointed we both were. The views are still lovely pity about everything else.

Like a previous commentator I can't believe some of the reviews for Longcross Hotel, my wife and I have eaten here on at least 3 occasions in the last 3-4 Months and twice last year, we live in Cornwall but travel at least 30 minutes to do so, but the view alone makes it worthwhile. However, it's equally the food that makes the trip worthwhile and we have never been disappointed, so while I respect others opinions our experience suggests that some criticism here is harsh, the menu has been varied, even on the Sunday lunch menu and thankfully they keep the delicious roast beef on, the staff have always been polite, the service is good and in our opinion the prices reflect what we have always been happy to pay and tip.

I can't believe some of the previous reviews noted, it doesn't appear to be the same place that we've ate at on two consecutive Sundays.....we had an amazing Sunday lunch at the Longcross Restaurant, meat melted in your mouth, great selection of freshly cooked vegetables and great yorkshires and roast potatoes. Very tasty starter and presentation was of a high standard. Wonderful views and very attentive waiting staff, nothing was too much trouble....looking forward to our next visit

We ate here and were the only people in the restaurant which was a bad sign. The food was terrible. Two of us had the fish pie which was tasteless and full of grease. Both were returned after one mouthful. Instead of an apology the waiter told us that is was supposed to be that way. None of us enjoyed our food. We asked for a bill and waited so long to pay that eventually I had to go to the bar to pay- this was despite the fact that the whole place was still empty. When I paid there was still no apology. If two people return the same dish then there is something wrong with the food- not the diner! If you value your customers apologize for bad service and bad food- in this case they should have apologized for both.

Have been to this restaurant many times and as local often bring visiting friends because food always good & setting beautiful. Oh dear what has happened! Visited for Sunday lunch and although the starter and sweet were up to the usual standard the main course was poor. Apparently there were no Yorkshire puddings with the roast beef as the chef had burnt them! Roast potatoes and parsnips were unroasted and greasy (reminded me of school dinners!). Two green veg chucked on top of inedible, overcooked chunks of chewy beef that was so tough my friend who has arthritic hands could not cut it and had to get her husband to cut it up for her! The meal was also cold. Yes I should have returned it but as the friends did not want to make a fuss I left it. (As did a lot of diners appear to be doing with the meal -I gave up the unequal struggle with the meat!). So sorry Longcross I do not know what has gone wrong but I for one will not be returning anytime soon and will not be recommending you! I have had better food at a motorway services! (For a lot less money).

Lovely setting, no doubt with the patio looking out over fields towards the Atlantic, beautiful potential for sunsets. But: the hotel is tired, perhaps forlorn for glory days gone by? We stayed in the Coach House for 4 nights. Housekeeping was minimal ( no change of fresh new shampoo, etc), the room had no valuable black book regarding the hotel and surrounding interests. The dinner menu got very tired after 3 nights. The worst though was as paying guests unfortunate enough to be booked at the same time as a wedding, we were second class citizens: the bar and lounge were off limits, no service for the evening. Given the hotels isolation, that was inconsiderate of them, no apology forthcoming even though the bar/lounge area was empty all evening and not used by the wedding party at all. Overall I'd say the staff were terrific, helpful and engaging. Great breakfast with a hardworking and often overworked server. The Coach room itself had the lighting of a brothel making it quite difficult to settle into a book; the shower stall with no walls sprayed water all over the floor, cool looking but utterly impractical. The bar/lounge had poor lighting and ugly old couches. The location suited our travel purposes but if in the area again we'd think twice.

My husband and I had stopped here for drinks in the past and decided to book a meal for our wedding anniversary. The bar and reception/lounge areas are lovely and tastefully decorated with amazing views along the coastline from the terrace. Our starters were tasty and well presented. The main courses less impressive. The vegetarian dish was mostly rice and breadcrumb deep fried and therefore, very pricey for what it was. The 'seasonal vegetable' side order was nearly all new potatoes, not what you would expect, especially in July! Fortunately, the service from bar and waiting staff was faultless. It was a very quiet evening, only two other couples in the restaurant the whole time we were there.

We were recommended this restaurant by the landlord of the holiday cottage we were renting for the week. We're very glad we took his advice as it was everything we had hoped for. I really can't fault this place at all, the staff were really friendly, the decor was tasteful, they were very welcoming, the food was reasonably priced and above all was of a fantastic quality. If you get the chance to eat here on your travels then do so. We loved it.

We were on holiday and ended up eating here 3 times. We had our dog who typically was nervous in eating places so we never bothered eating out, we were given a table in the corner and asked for the same one every time which they obliged as she was settled, it helped that the staff were all so helpful and the food was so nice, would highly recommend the Pityme Inn and we will visit again, it made our holiday
