The setting and ambience at Tre Pol & Pen is very good, the restaurant was very well covered with natural light, tables were laid in a way there was and is plenty of room to move around and you were not about privacy as the tables were far enough apart so other conversations could not be easily shared/heard. The meal took over 40 minutes to arrive and although was plentiful the meat however was a little too stringy and was not easily cut therefore not fully enjoyed. Overall the roast was fairly enjoyable.

We have always had a lovely roast here but, the wait was 35 mins , the vegetables and meat etc could of been hotter , and would of been nice to have a separate gravy boat , we enjoyed it if the above improves it would of been 5 stars few things to improve on! For £16.95 I would expect a hot roast and maybe to have been the amount of time to wait .

Having driven past lots of times my husband and I decided to visit for a quick lunch. It was extremely busy so had to wait for food but were told my a very helpful waiter that this was the case. I had the quiche which was delicious and my husband had the fish and chips which was piping hot but fish rather thin ! Excellent customer service and considering how packed it was the staff were all doing a great job. Farm shop was nice although quite expensive .Cakes and pastries looked amazing so will definitely return for a coffee soon !

Have been many times during the week and never been dissatisfied but Sunday lunch the summer menu is awful. Beef with 1 carrot, a bit of broccoli and a slice of courgette with potatoes. Very expensive for what you get and no children's menu only small beef both in this awful I would say dressing. I think the owners need to have a word with the head chef the place was empty for a Sunday for a farm shop restaurant I don't think I will return on a Sunday surly customer numbers are down it's a shame as it's a lovely place but you can get better meals elsewhere. Food was lovely, had a pulled pork burger with chips and coleslaw and it was very tasty. Downside - there are very few choices on the menu for light bites and lunches. Worst meal I've had! Roast beef was not a roast dinner, came with carrot, broccoli and a courgette! Awful sauce as they said it went with a summer roast, asked for gravy and told there was no gravy today! Which is probably why the place was three quarters empty. Used to be a fabulous Sunday lunch but the so called summer menu is rubbish. Wait staff were cheery and polite, and, most importantly, the food and drink was good. The 2 children had hot chocolate concoctions that were works of arr and taste. The cole slaw with my roast beef sandwich was the best I have ever had, and I would happily have eaten more (note here that I generally hate cole slaw and leave it, but this was freshly made and delicious) Highly recommend a stop here.

We stopped here for lunch having previously had coffee and cake. The menu seems to focus on quite expensive lunches and the choice of under £10 lunches is very limited, especially when one option has sold at just after 12.00. I opted for a fishfinger sandwich and my husband had the focaccia with pork. My sandwich was pretty average and I’d have been much happier with nice shop bought Fishfingers as the deep fried fishy goujons were quite greasy. I’d have liked chunky hand cut bread not thin sliced white. It was OK but could have been better. My husband said his focaccia was cold and the meat very chewy, not inedible but could have been much nicer. No one asked us how our food was until we went to pay. I’d recommend for coffee and cake but not lunch and think they’d be better focussing on sandwiches, baked potatoes and things which they can do well. I’m a bit perplexed why they have a cocktail and wine list, surely no one goes there for cocktails..?? The restaurant atmosphere is like a motorway service station which I don’t think is the look or feel they were going for. Plenty of room for improvement. On the plus side it is clean and there’s lots of free parking.

We haven't used the cafe so can't comment on that, always nipped in for bread which is really nice, tasty and quite reasonable, along with the quiche, we bought the whole one and again really reasonable and fed 12 of us with generous slices! The scotch eggs are really nice too, now I don't normally like these and I have only ever had supermarket scotch eggs so there is no wonder I don't like them! These are just full of meat and the egg doesn't rattle inside! So delicious with a bit of chutney and a slice of quiche! I have nothing to complain about and I would suggest you go see for yourselves rather than just reading the negative comments and deciding it is a no go.

We went here for Sunday roast after hearing how good the food was. Whilst the food we were served was really lovely, we were so disappointed in the portion size for what we paid. Most of our party were vegan & we were excited when we saw a vegan roast was available, however when it came we realised we were paying the same price for our food as others at the table but minus the Yorkshire pudding & cauliflower cheese with nothing else to replace it. The veggie main was roasted butternut squash, which again whilst it was nice, it was very simply a piece of plain roasted butternut squash- something that is very cheap & easy to make. Ovbiously meat is going to cost much more to serve than a small piece of butternut squash, so I was really disappointed that the food was the same price especially given we then also had nothing extra on the plate to replace the omitted items. When we ordered we expected that obviously the non vegan items would be removed from the dish, but that they’d be replaced with either extra of the other things or vegan versions of those items. Definitely would not recommend for vegans (or anyone who would ask for the dish without items as they won’t be replaced with something else, or anyone ordering a meat roast who enjoys a hearty portion!) - basically paid £15.95 for 3 roast potatoes & a handful of plain roasted vegetables…we came home & ate again straight away as we were all starving!

Others who sat down long after us had finished and left by the time we were finally served. We complained and were offered complimentary coffees but that would have added to waiting time so we refused. Our choices weren’t available either. Not the waiting staffs fault, they were great. Kitchen just couldn’t cope. They were clearing for afternoon teas by the time we ate. Food was ok at best. Shame, because we’ve usually had a good experience there. Will not be returning.

Stopped by for coffee. We wanted to see if things have got any better. It’s a great looking place from the outside but when you get in it has the appearance of the sort of works canteen you’d find in a tech hub. Three serried ranks of tables and chairs may make the passage of staff efficient (although as you will see in other reviews, often not that efficient), but offer neither a sense of warmth or personality. They’ve made an effort in one corner with a sofa or two, but that’s it. So, tip number one. Break up the flow, guys. And then of course there is the dog fatwa. Assuming it’s not raining (so maybe for four months a year then) pooches are welcome to stay outside, but are not allowed anywhere in the building at any time. Why? These days it’s just bad business. They’re going to hate this next bit but the owners and management should take a look at The Weir in Bude. Very similar sort of set-up, but wholly different vibe.

Appalling service, never again, this was my fourth visit to this establishment and once again I had to complain. Waiting 22 minutes for a cup of coffee is unacceptable in anybodies book, and when it eventually did arrive it was cold and not only that they sent another cup less than a minute later that hadn't been ordered. Today was the last straw, not only did we have to wait for well over twenty minutes for out initial order but when it did arrive the teapot had a chipped spout which meant the tea wen everywhere but in the cup, the chips were cold, the staff had an "oh well" attitude and the table was sticky, the fact that one of the coffee machines was working was not our fault. The background music is to loud, and the cost was not cheap, they even charged me for the unwanted/not ordered coffee. In my eyes this estblishment has NOT improved since the day it opened. Sorry....never again!!!!

Went for a family Christmas dinner and get together. Food was pre ordered, the starter was of an average standard but the main course ( I had ordered the roast beef with all the trimmings) was underwhelming to say the least. There was a lot of food on the platter, but all of it very badly cooked. The beef was pink, the way I like it normally, but it was extremely chewy. The roast potatoes were undercooked and the rest of the vegetables ( including the Brussel sprouts) were all roasted to a charcoal like state. Drinks were ordered and had to wait over half an hour for them. I could appreciate the wait if they were busy, but this wasn't the case. I'll end on a high note to say that the dessert was good. For the price paid, I wouldn't return .

We attended your Italian evening last night which proved to be rather disappointing. One member of our party had pizza and lemon tart which he enjoyed. Two people had lasagne which was okay but both felt it could be more tomatoey. I had cherry tomato and rocket spaghetti which was poor; the pasta was dreadfully overcooked; the tomatoes were whole and impossible to eat without spraying tomato juice everywhere and there was far too much virtually tasteless sauce on the pasta- nowhere near authentic Italian. The tiramisu which three of the group ordered, consisted of two layers of dry sponge with plain cream between and a lot of cocoa on top; not a hint of coffee or liquor- a main ingredient in tiramisu. The cost was very reasonable but we would have paid more for better food. On the plus side the managers were very welcoming and attentive and the staff were efficient and cheerful as always. The music was a nice touch; the singer was very good although just a touch loud for easy conversation.

Attended Italian Evening. Ordered 2 pizza both soggy with too much tomato sauces. Worst pizza I’ve ever eaten. The service was good but didn’t make up for the poor quality of food.

Had a very good Sunday lunch. We went with 9 of us. They looked after us very well and the food service was very quick. Some of the younger crew were still learning the ropes but otherwise very good. The beef was delicious. Good portions. Excellent wine list and good value. We bought a whole quiche at the farm shop later which was delicious and superb value.

We come here regularly for a Sunday roast & cannot fault it. The staff are all polite, welcoming & can't do enough to help. Ali is a credit to your team too, always smiling & makes sure you have everything you need. The service is perfect & the food is amazing, lots to chose from & very tasty. Have also been for their afternoon teas which I have to say, is probably the best I've tried, plenty of it & always a box available to take home if you can't finish it all. The shop is worth a mooch around, some very lovely things there & we nearly always end up taking something home with us. Well worth a visit

Beautiful farm shop and restaurant. Stopped for coffee and cake. The cakes and cream tea were both delicious. Would recommend a pit stop.

We went as a family of five for afternoon Tea, we live in the area and have been to a few farm shops and hotels for afternoon tea and this is by far the best. The quantity and quality of the fare was outstanding. Thanks to all the staff and a special thanks to Sherry for a marvellous afternoon. Oh I forgot to mention great value as well 😀

Visited this place many times and after last time and the poor food and awful customer service by the new woman restaurant manager I said I’d never go again but.........my friend convinced me to go and I was meeting her friend who was going for first time I had coffee and scone and they had coffee and cake and scone jam cream Our coffees were luke warm and whilst eating our food the tall new waitress came over and asked us to pay there and then, on asking why we were being asked to do this she said well because we have had people leave without paying, I said so as you are coming to our table and not everyone else’s are you expecting us to do that? She was rude and terrible communication skills and said well we might and are you refusing to pay now so I said yes we will pay when we’ve had our food as we always do being local to Tre Pol Pen we are not in the habit of doing a runner at age 62, 72 and 73 !! She said she would get the manager and I said yes go right ahead Our friend ordered another fruit scone it then took 15 minutes to arrive after asking the same waitress who said it’s coming and walked off After we’d eaten my friend paid our bill in full and before we left a gentleman came over and introduced himself as Gareth a new manager he saw we weren’t happy and asked why, we told what happened and he was very nice, polite and apologetic. He said things would not be as before and the service and attitude and poor food will get better as he was working on this but had only been there a week, he offered us a return visit with free cake and a cuppa so we could try again, we appreciated this very much and will give him a chance I really hope he can deliver as it’s such a shame it’s gone so far down the hill

Sunday lunch seemed a treat as no cooking. However apart from my husband’s roast beef it seemed to be quantity over quality. The Yorkshire puddings were over done and the frangipane tart was very overdone. Positives- roast beef, crème anglaise

Just had a steak and ale pie from the shop. I have to say it was by far the worst pie I have ever had. Only three small pieces of meat in a tasteless gelatinous brown mass. Very disappointed.

We arrived early and got a seat in the lovely traditional style bar, ordered our drinks and lunch. We’d been sitting there for about 10 minutes when we were told we could sit in the front bar and were taken into the uninspiring back room, called The Smugglers Bar. I really wish I’d cancelled my order and walked out there and then, but as we’d ordered and our food would be almost ready we decided to stay. The room was gloomy, cold and devoid of atmosphere. I asked the person serving if there had been a problem with dogs in the bar, she stated that there hadn’t.The Fountain Inn used to be my favourite Cornish pub but I will never be eating in ‘The Smugglers Bar’ again.

Booked a table for a family get together. Not been here before but had it on good recommendation that it was an ok place to go. We were seated quickly and offered the menu etc. Drinks arrived swiftly as did the food. I personally wasn't too impressed with my main meal (prawns). Portion was meagre and it didn't come with the correct dressing and it wasn't cheap. As the main meal of the day I was left still feeling peckish. Puddings were ok I suppose but my daughter's was mainly made up of squirty cream. Probably wouldn't bother going again.
