I will start by saying the restaurant did reduce our bill and throw in a few free extras but we were very surprised by the quality and portioning of the food. At the time the cafe was very quiet but the staff seemed a little bit chaotic. Orders not being put through properly, items missed off and not knowing what beer they had available. A couple of us ordered the chicken burger (£13) and my son had the kids version (£8.50) but his came with chips. I was pretty shocked when we both received exactly the same sized portion. A small bun, 1/2 a small chicken fillet and one piece of lettuce, not exactly worth £13. The staff did even comment that they there was an issue but still felt it was fine to serve and just expect people to pay. The pizzas were but ok but again surprised when we we charged £3 for 2-3 sliced olives as an extra. We've eaten at many other places up and down the coast and based on our experience we would not return.

Had our football dinner and dance here in May and the Seaside was the perfect venue on a hot spring evening for pre dinner drinks outside and then for the main event. We had liased with Agostino before and himself and Ellie were very accommodating. The food for the price paid was excellent. The only thing that would of made the whole event outstanding would of been having beer on tap as paying £4.50 for a bottle seemed very steep. Would definitely look to return for food in the future as a local.

We've eaten here twice now and both times the service was shockingly bad. The staff are friendly and polite, the food is good (if on the expensive side). However, there is a massive disconnect between the polite, friendly staff and the good food. It was 5:30pm. We sat down outside and waited 20 minutes before anyone took our drinks order. Ended up getting our own menus. Someone walked past, so ordered drinks with food as well. 4 members of serving staff and 4 tables busy inside with 5/6 tables having drinks or food outside. We literally had to ambush someone bringing other drinks out to get our order, despite waving at staff looking out of the door. How can it have such an opportunity of a great location and staff being welcoming, but organised so badly. Not to mention the bill. Both times was wrong. Random drinks and ice cream added to the bill. CHECK YOUR BILL BEFORE PAYING! I notice that the orders weren't taken on traditional table numbers, so the staff struggled to find the right people for the orders. Such simple things and yet there is no management sorting this out, or organising the service/staff. Seems like great staff and chefs, but "couldn't organise a p!ss up in a brewery" springs to mind.

We are here twice on a weekend away. The setting is beautiful, with fabulous views of the sea. My crab linguine was beautiful and my Sunday roast was good too! I thought it was very reasonably priced for the standard of food and the setting. The service was really good too - slightly slow if anything but I feel this fitted with the relaxed nature of the hotel.

Was here for a wedding. They put on some great food, all cooked fresh. It is quite small for a wedding venue, but caters about 35 people. Good choice of drinks and great outdoor area next to the pool looking out to sea

A nice simple menu but very tasty, a great new addition is a chill out section where you can just sit and have a cuppa. In the summer great outside seating next to the pool.

on a sunny day this place is pretty much perfect. Sit outside with a view over the famous Doom Bar. tThe food has always been pretty good for lunch in the times weve visited, always out of season and always a late lunch, plenty places to sit when the kitchen and waiting staff arent as pushed. Whenever we are in Polzeath we always make ap point of having lunch on one day.

Lovely food but a bit overprice for what you get and service also quite slow. We just had mains and puddings which were all cooked perfectly with lovely fresh ingredients but I could have done with the fish portion being twice the size and I'm only a size 8 so don't have a huge appetite. I would not eat here again unless someone else was paying!

I don't want to be over the top, as that wouldn't be right, but was left a little underwhelmed by this place. we have eaten in the main restaurant in St Moritz a few times and although wasn't expecting it to be identical obviously as its the smaller casual cousin, it could have been a bit more professional. Don't get me wrong, its nice enough, the food was well done, the menu was limited, but that's OK for this small place, but the staff seemed a bit going through the motions TBH, especially as it was quite quiet too. Justa final small thing, the number of people, including us, that couldn't find a way in was a bit funny, could go with a sign on the sliding doors, thanks!

We ate here on our first night while staying at the hotel and left feeling like they'd seen us coming... To be fair, the warning signs were all there - as we sat down at our table, a woman sitting nearby who'd just received her bill was complaining that £5.80 was not a sensible charge for a pint of soda water and lime. Also, we'd looked at the 'sample menu' online before booking and were surprised to note on arrival that although the majority of the dishes were the same, the prices were all around £2 dearer than had been listed online. I ordered the burger and my other half had the hotdog, both of which were £14. They both came served only with chips - not even a perfunctory handful of salad to make the mostly empty plate feel a little less austere - and were decidedly underwhelming. Actually I'm doing the restaurant an injustice; my burger came with a garnish of hair, on the house. When we mentioned this to the waiter, he was not especially apologetic, and his reply of "I'll let the chef know" seemed to suggest he was more worried about the chef's impending hair loss than the fact it was being shed into the food. The icing on the cake was when my other half ordered the 'bread basket' for £2. We received one slice of bread from a bloomer, cut in half and served in a small bowl (such as might traditionally be used to hold olives) - I guess they must have been fresh out of baskets. I hate to leave a moany review like this, but as hotel guests who'd already spent a sum of money to stay here we felt exploited rather than looked after by our experience on this particular evening. In conclusion, whilst it may offer a stunning view, we'd suggest packing some sarnies or picking up fish and chips and enjoying the same view from the coastal path or the beach!

We have eaten here several times before and had a good experience, so we were excited to hear the restaurant had been enlarged and improved. The revised version wasn't a patch on the original. We pre-booked a table but on arrival no member of staff would even look us in the eye as they rushed about like headless chickens. No one seemed in charge, after 10 minutes we just sat at a table and waited. For the next 15 minutes staff rushed past us carefully averting their eyes despite the fact that we tried to get their attention. In the end we went to the service area and were willing to help ourselves to a drink as no one was willing to serve us. After an hour we had a drink and some food but it wasn't in the same league as previous years. A highly priced burger turned up with chips but no garnish, coleslaw or offer of condiments. The tables around us were also trying to get waiters attention as they had only received part of their orders. If you are going to re-launch you need to have more staff, someone in charge and food that is better, not worse than before. Hopefully by the next visit some management will have got a grip.

We visited here on Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May 2016. As a group of 6 (5 adults and 1 9yr old child) we phoned ahead and were told they were fully booked after 7:30 but had room before then. We arrived at 6pm and were the only customers in the place. Whilst looking at the food menu we ordered 2 bottles of Perroni (1 of only 2 bottled lagers on offer) only to be told there had been a rush on this brand a couple of days before and were now out of stock. No great problem so we had 2 Coronas. The ladies in the group looked at the wine list and ordered a bottle of Riesling wine. Sorry but also out of stock so they went for the house white. 6 meals ordered and still the only customers in the place. 5 meals arrived but then we were told by the waiter there had been a mix up over the fifth meal (we were still the only customers so no other orders had gone in) As the 5 of us were finishing our meals the 6th meal arrived, & he ate his as the 5 of us chatted. Onto the sweet menu and we were given a choice of 6 tempting desserts. The panna cotta sounded good but alas this was also not available and whilst we were then thinking about the 5 remaining temptations the waiter added the carrot cake was also off. Thank goodness we were the only customers there or the choice could have been reduced even further. What the 7:30 customers had to eat we will never know. Will not be hurrying back.

We'd only really eaten at the main restaurant at the St. Moritz but decided to give the Sea Side a try. First of all a drink by the window with one of the best views in town, followed by perfect mussels with home made bread and an amazing rocket and pesto salad. Friendly staff and not ridiculous prices.

The food and atmosphere are ok if a little pricey for what you get and the average quality. The service was not good though, the waiting staff have developed a keen ability to look around without actually looking so it is hard to get their attention and they do like chatting amongst themselves. We and others realised that it was best to go to the counter to get service. Items were left off our order and for some reason there was an aversion to bringing cutlery with the food. That said the steak burger I had was alright £14 for a bbq burger and buffet salad was a bit steep though, the coleslaw was definitely home made as the ingredients hadn't been mixed together but just dumped in the bowl and so this took a fair bit of manipulating until it was actually right. All just slightly slovenly.

We recently stayed in Rock with our daughter and 2 young children and decided to go to this restaurant as it had a good review in a local publication. The waiting staff were polite and helpful and supplied high chairs and children's cutlery and drinking glasses. Our daughter ordered Moules marinieres which she found to be excellent, however the inclusive glass of wine was of poor quality. I ordered fish and chips - the chips were good but fish was very small, not much bigger than the childs portion. Whilst waiting for our meals we were appalled to see one of the kitchen staff picking his nose, had long greasy hair uncovered and frequently swept back with his hand.He was also drinking a glass of beer; I don't know how a food hygiene inspector would view this. The service was slow and our bill was excessive for the quality and amount of food and and drink.A superb location let down by the above list of observations.

We live locally to the St Moritz Hotel and popped up to the Sea Side restaurant for lunch, only to be shocked and disappointed by the quality, portion sizes and attitude of the staff. The food here is not cheap - but given the view and the lovely menu, would be well worth paying for good quality food. We ordered a veggie sharing plate, which came with olives, sun dried tomatoes, cheese, preserved peppers, oil and balsamic, olive tapenade and aubergine dip. We were given two tiny pieces of bread, which were no where near enough to eat with the bits on the plate, then charged £2 for two extra pieces of bread (just about sufficient but a complete rip off). The bread was also very greasy, which given that everything else came with oil, it was a bit sickening.Next, we ordered a full size duck confit stir fry as a main course, and a tomato salad as a starter. The tomato salad was distinctly average for £7 and soaked in sickly sweet think balsamic reduction rather than balsamic vinegar. The duck was inedible - the portion arrived and not only was it pitifully small, it was just a stodgy pile of brown noodles with no freshness and barely a vegetable in sight. It was so salty that it was just inedible. We sent it back to the kitchen, and by this point just wanted to get out the restaurant asap. Shockingly, the chef decided to argue with the waitress over the duck in a kitchen that is open to the restaurant and completely audible to the customers, stating repeatedly that it was meant to be salted duck (this wasn't on the menu, and even if it was, it still needs to be edible). As locals, we will won't be returning and we'll be letting our friends know of our experience. The area has some fantastic restaurants, bars and cafes now with fabulous, good value food in nice locations and great, friendly staff. If you want some good recommendations you just need to ask around. Why go back?

We had lunch with friends on Mothers Day having stayed a couple of nights at the Hotel during March. The warm friendly welcome and service was excellent, food excellent, customer service excellent, wine a treat - and my friend and I received beautiful little flower gifts, an excellent touch. Everything about the Sea Side .... excellent. Mistakenly on my review of the Hotel i commented we had also visited the Sea Food restaurant - typo error - should have said Sea Side which is why i did this review. Cannot fault. Well Done!

My boyfriend & I stopped for a late lunch at the Seaside Restaurant in early February. The Restaurant Menu is reasonably priced and offers a good selection of food for both vegetarian (myself) and non-vegetarian (boyfriend). The food was of a very high standard and the waiter was very friendly and attentive. The focal point though, has to be the breath taking views out across the Atlantic. I would thoroughly recommend this Restaurant, it was a brilliant find.

We were lucky enough to be given a meal for two as a Christmas present and as we are locals will certainly be returning. The restaurant is modern and unpretentious, the staff extremely welcoming and the food was delicious. Not fine dining but everything fresh and beautifully presented with a modern slant. We had pre-booked and the only table they had was at 12.30 and when we arrived the restaurant was already filling up and was completely full by the time we left with people being turned away to come back later. The menu is quite reasonably priced - starters around £7.50 and mains around £14.00, my starter was delicious as was my main course and my husband was equally impressed, definetly value for money. A good wine list, a little on the expensive side but the Le Fume Sauvignon Blanc was excellent at £19.95 and also available by the glass. A comprehensive kids menu as well. We are looking forward to bringing the family in the Summer for Sunday lunch and a swim (the restaurant overlooks the hotel pool - and also the sea) £20.00 for lunch and swim. Definetly recommended and as its only recently opened and is already proving so popular I should think booking will be essential. The only downside for us (and not the fault of the restaurant) was a table of hooray henrys and henriettas who seemed to think that the entire restaurant wanted to listen to their shrieking and shouting. Fortunately they were at the far end of the restaurant and did not spoil our enjoyment.

Seaside is quite a new offering on the Cornish food scene. We first visited before Christmas for lunch. They had only been open for a week and everything was sharp and bright including the food and the staff. Visiting again last week for Sunday lunch we were thrilled that everything was still clean and shiny and that the food was still as tasty and fresh. The best bit about Seaside is that they serve lunch between 12 and 4 daily at the moment. Hours are likely to be increased as the season progresses no doubt. We arrived at 3.25 and although we didn't have the place to ourselves the wood burner was lit and the staff seemed genuinely pleased to serve us. This isn't fine dining but the food is wholesome and freshly made and we enjoyed the chilled vibe and lack of pretension. Just because it's simple doesn't mean it isn't beautifully presented or tasty. If you want to kick back on a Sunday (or any other day) this is the place to do it. The prices are fair and even more reasonable if you are lucky enough to have a locals VIP loyalty card.We certainly do like to be beside the seaside!!

I have to admit that I am not the person that comments on anything and everything, nor do I ever right a review of my experience. If I am unsatisfied with the experience, I just won't return again. But ... I have been seeing the Development of this establishment for that past 20 years and treated myself quite often to a night or two in any of the corner or best suites ( highly recommend those ) and enjoyed the ambiance and service this hotel had to offer. Our experience: Arrival to the hotel : We planned to have drinks prior to our meal. Found the bar area as busy as usual. With no free seats in sight, I ask the Brasserie manager if we could order drinks in the main lounge, whereas we been told that there normally is service but he has no clue what they doing today. Not answer I was hoping for. The entrance to the main lounge also been blocked off for some reason. Luckily the wait at bar was sufficient enough to pass the time for a table to become vacant. In previous visits, a relaxed table service was offered but not this time for some reason . Guess it’s an informal 5 star service.. , had to ask for bar menus as neither been on the bar or tables to see what’s on offer. ( also no usual complimentary nuts that used to be offered ) Restaurant We arrived early to our Booking at the samphire and were delighted to be able to be seated, unfortunately without any menus. It took about 10-15 min of us staring holes into the warm air, when I lost my patients and had to get up from the table to ask for menus at the entrance of the Restaurant. Yet again it took quite a while for us to order drinks and food as it seemed to be a chaotic service with everyone doing everything and no restaurant Manager nor head waiter in sight ( please note.. all evening ) . The lack of attention to detail was incredible .. table settings with knives to left and forks to right on every table .. just wow - giggle Food and drinks order done. ( ordered a glass of white wine with my mains, which never arrived ).. Drinks arrived what seamed ages. Overheard table next to us complaining about the slow service too, which been given a small apology but no solution to increase the speed of service ( yet again a lack of management ) Noticed the young waiter being unfamiliar on how to correctly present a bottle of wine and opening it, which I thought should be a training standard for a 5 star establishment. not only did he seem untrained, he also dried his hands in a used napkin left on the table next to him where diners just left. The pork belly starter , was below luke warm which was shame as its been rather tasty. I guess if a portion of this size is sitting on a kitchen pass for mere 3 min, it naturally will loose its core temperature, suggestion.. Next time use a cloche! I wanted to point this out to the service but yet again no manager or headwaiter to be seen and the waiters seem too busy to be bothered. Once they did ask if everything is alright, but by that time we finished what we had on the plate ( which is not a lot if you are hungry ) Unfortunately the main course of the hen and the monk fish not been any better and yet again being luke warm. Dessert of the frangipane tart and pineapple been ok, but yet again no attention to detail, as the dessert been bought out without cutlery being replenished prior. Ordered coffee to be served in the lounge, which arrived with no sugar or spoon and had to be asked for separately. When I paid my bill, I mentioned that the wine I ordered with my main course never arrived. No apology was offered.. A "informal fine Dining " experience. 95% informal - 5 % fine Dining. :-( Over the past 20 years I always chose the Headland hotel for its perfection, attention to detail and impeccable service, this time it's not delivered to its promise which is a shame cause that's what I will remember.. Coming from a 4 to a 5 star .. I expected more ( go back to 4 stars !!! You been better then
