Have visited Charlestown on many occasions and used, and eaten at the Rashleigh Arms, so decided to book a 3 day stay. First Impression good, but sadly downhill quickly. Yes we stayed mid week, thus some people use the venue for work related stays. Accomodation looks the business, but we stayed in the Georgian townhouse building adjacent to the car park, on the ground floor. Thus the Harbour view was very restricted to craning ones neck to look over the building in front. Open the door to a step, easily forgotten, thus a trip hazard, likewise in the room itself. Hot water, eventually, leave the tap/s running and it eventually arrives. An old building we were told. Perhaps a pumped system would help. Central heating; window radiator had loose thermostatic valve thus not working, did manage to screw back, and told management needed fixing. If you are a light sleeper be aware; ground floor main door and staircase noisy from other residents, mentioned to management that perhaps a sign on the wall to consider others would be nice. Carpark, as they say is very up and down and not at all easy to move luggage, or indeed drive on, not that well lit either. Breakfast first day very disappointing, beware the Eggs Florentine, poached eggs hard and cold. Inedible and sent back. One area missing is for residents, unless you want to sit in the pub bar or your room. We went into the ,not very busy, restaurant area at 20.30, where breakfast is served, only to be told not sorry with a wave of the hand you have to go into the bar area. Football and not seats, no thanks. This is where the reception desk is too, so what if we had wanted to speak to the reception staff? We walked down to the sister pub and found it quite pleasant, they do have a resident area near reception, although we used a small room at the front. on leaving we mentioned all these to management, so maybe other visitors will benefit. Would we stay again, maybe, but pay for a lesser room and you'll get the view!

Absolutely smashing mid week roast dinner. I opted for the beef which was cooked perfectly. Fluffy potatoes along with other seasonal veg made for a perfect tum full of food. Lovely friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere too, what a great all rounder The Holmbush Inn is.

We had an amazing stay. Sure, the hotel is dated (I struggle to understand why it’s so dated when it was completely refurbished in 2004 - clearly to a 1984 style guide) but you have to look beyond that. The team here are brilliant. The reception team couldn’t have been more helpful or kinder. The same team run the bar and do so really well. We were made to feel really welcome and cared for. The food was very good, the location is perfect. The wildly eclectic collection of furniture is so bad that it’s nearly good. We found the shower was fine, the beds and bedding were clean, the hotel was well managed and kept. People, not paint, make places and the people here are wonderful. The coffee needs an upgrade if I’m honest but there’s a great speciality coffee place in Charlestown (the hotel should approach about supplying beans here) which is a 10 minute walk down the coastal path. The sea swimming here is safe as the bay is very sheltered and the coastal walks are sublime. Hat-tip to the restaurant and reception staff, they make this place great despite it being a triffle tired.

Won’t be back anytime soon ! It used to be a good but has fallen off the edge I’m afraid The cafe area is a complete shambles, full bin bags lying in the seating area, tinned drinks stacked up, bookshelves stood up against wall and no heating. Food is poor quality and hugely overpriced, with stale bread, salad leaves going brown and “ lumps” of cheese in the sandwich. The staff are less than helpful and appearance does not seem to matter to them. All in all a very poor standard set in all aspects

We were looking for a special venue to celebrate a birthday. And this looked a lovely place. But we very disappointed with the food. The fish pie was totally covered in cheese and was very salty it contained little fish just a few tiny pieces of salmon. The burger was dry and unappetising . The taste restaurant certainly didn’t live up to its name

This is no longer at Pinetum Gardens near St Austell! It is 30 minutes away in Truro which the children weren’t going to be able to last. Such as shame.
