Wandered in to the bar with family. They went off to walk around Charlestown whilst I spent a very happy time in the bar. Sampled a number of the beers in addition to the pint I had while the family went walking. Really nice place with great variety of high quality beers. Hugo behind the bar was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and very welcoming.

What a refreshing change. A different kind of bar in Charlestown with excellent beers you won’t find anywhere else locally. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable about the beers and wines. I had two different ales both of which were first class and my wife had an orange wine which was very refreshing.

We popped in after the refurbishment and really loved the new decor. Knowing a little bit about the Harbour brewing band it was great to see all the products. It is all very new and will certainly ly take some time for everyone to adjust to the changes, but we found the team pretty engaging and nice to talk to. We didn't haven any food this time hence the lower score for that. But everything else was great and we wish Dylan and his team the best of luck

Had a late lunch here before the Eden Sessions on Saturday - lovely to see it reopened after the fire, and an exciting new chapter! Nice to have somewhere a bit different in Charlestown to go. Great range of beers, I had the pineapple sour with my pizza, which was delicious (the few slices I couldn't manage made for a great post-session snack!). Really nice atmosphere and will be back soon with friends!

We have tried at least four times to order a pizza, but every time they say that particular one isn't on the menu that night. Apparently they only have three on at a time so until you go in there you don't know what pizza is being served. Also they didn't have a vegetarian option last night,04/07/24 we were told we could have a margarita,we thought if they make them on the premises then they could make one up,a bit more exciting than a margarita.

Popped in on a Saturday afternoon out of curiosity more than anything as we used to drink here when it was the Harbour side, we only live up the road so very close but what have they done? Tried talking to the barman which I think is the new landlord and zero conversation then sat at a table near ( I think was his wife ) and again zero conservation and the price of the beer WOW and you cant see the beer pumps and what they`re serving as its below the counter and no draught cider which my wife drinks, very strange, it`s like it`s not a pub and we felt the attitude was like we don`t want locals here we just want the summer trade rip people off make our money and #uck you. well best of luck you`re going to need it even holiday makers are cash wary. Just because it`s Charlestown people like you think you can over charge and get away with it but sorry it is just a small harbour, I remember coming here as a child with my father taking coal out of the boats moored up , why these places seem to turn into an over priced yuppy style venue is absolutely beyond me, look around the inner harbour it`s dirty covered in weeds, bird droppings and scum on the water, Oh well happy days I suppose we don`t have to drink here we`ll go to a supermarket or off licence buy what we need and sit in the comfort of our own garden / home with family or friends and enjoy. Time will tell

After drinking in the Harbourside for 12 years we were so looking forward to the reopening after the fire damage, we had missed "our local" big time during the renovation but honestly couldn't have been anymore disappointed after our visit. The pub feels cold and like a cross between a hub-box restaurant and a church due to the bench seats and the decor has cold clinical colours, there is nowhere comfortable to sit and all the stools have no backs, it almost feels like the pub wants you to eat and leave quickly. Service was cold and unfriendly with no conversation being struck up by the bar man when we said we were local and were having a look around, it felt so unwelcoming with quite a few staff on and off duty hanging around the bar. You can't see what beers are available clearly and the only known lager was korev and the other two were around £7 and pretty average after having a taster, I them asked for a draught cider instead but they don't have any which I've never heard of in a supposed pub? The only food that is served is pizzas and we had planned on having one on our first visit back but the range was tiny and the menu looked like it had been hand written by a child, really low standards for such a newly opened business especially coupled with the lack of service. There's no live sport now and randomly there was a surfing film showing, think that's the other coast though and definitely not the Charlestown vibe! After speaking to other locals about our visit everyone feels the same and also told us that the pub had no lime cordial, soda water and has ran out of pizza dough on numerous occasions when that's the only food on the menu! There's also a very random take away alcohol fridge section suggesting beach drinks and some clothing you can buy, alcohol isn't allowed on charlestown beach and the fact you can buy a t-shirt there but not get a drink you want or potentially food is hilarious, think the marketing team have got this place badly wrong for where it is! When we left after our drink we had no goodbye, thank you or any acknowledgement and potential customers were walking in for a quick look and being totally ignored then walking out, we decided instantly after one visit that it would be our last, totally gutting after we have spent so many years in the amazing pub it was before before this catastrophic downgrade. The food was tasty and is served in take away type containers as the pub has recently had a fire not that you would ever know (gob smacked when the staff said! They are so positive about the whole thing and excited about the new new refurbishment, which sounds like a great investment). As a family family we had a fun evening and felt part of the pub and loved the pepperoni pizza! Thanks Harbourside, we will be back next year to see your new look!

We visited here twice, once for drinks and once for a casual meal, whilst staying at the adjacent Pier House Hotel, both of which are owned by St Austell Brewery. This is a nice place with a good atmosphere, good friendly service and a menu of tasty bar food, which for us was fine when we wanted something to eat in a casual setting. There was also a good choice of drinks, including St. Austell Proper Job ale which was excellent. Well worth a visit if in Charlestown.

We were really looking forward to some food and drinks at the Harby, service was really friendly and drinks were great but the new food menu is really poor, very limited and pricy clearly with only profit in mind with the staff even saying they're embarrassed putting plates down because the portions are so small. I had a rack of ribs which was tiny and clearly frozen and definitely not freshly made and was a rip off at £14, the harby always used to deliver really good food and would do requests but even that seems to have disappeared. The burgers are now smaller and lots of extras like onion rings have gone with dishes, the ribs I had were served on a tray with paper which started breaking up from what little bbq sauce there was resulting in bits of paper on the chips and elsewhere, the second meal we had was fish and chips which in fairness was decent but has gone up in price, I appreciate pubs have had it hard in lockdown but there's a right way to make money. We are locals and have eaten here many times but won't be bothering now and I can't see locals eating here which you would think would be essential especially outside of the tourist season. It's clearly a St Austell brewery decision as all their pubs have similar menus now which led us to cancel our reservation at the Pier House for tomorrow, very limited choices and expensive for tiny portions of food is not the way forward.

8 adults, 4 children & 2 dogs, it made sense to call the day before to check if dogs would be welcome and to book a table for lunch - you can’t easily sit 12 anywhere, let alone at a tourist attraction. I was told on the phone that they could not take a reservation “it’s not our policy to take bookings”. I even offered to pay in advance by credit card proffering amounts of either £100 or £200 as a deposit, and still the answer was NO! We were all driving 20 miles to Charleston to see the tall ships and just wanted a family lunch from people who are in the hospitality business and well versed on giving great service - as one would expect from a St.Austell Brewery pub. I was told to take our chance as a “walk-in” and that it should be alright.

Since the takeover from St Austell Brewery, i have re-visited the Harbourside Inn, and i have to say i was surprised with the quality of the menu. The menu has had a massive change, from mediocre bar food, to a good quality restaurant standard menu. I had the crispy squid to start and it could have been a little better, was a little soggy however the accompaniments were tasty. For my main i had the hake with butternut squash risotto, the dish was lovely, massive portion, the only downfall was a dirty plate and slightly hard butternut squash, but the flavour was excellent. the service was standard bar service, no table service. The price for me wasn't an issue, i think the style of food you are getting is that price basically everywhere you go.

With football on the TV this bar was the busiest in Charlestown on a November sunday evening, we only called in for drinks when staying nearby. Service was pleasant, but I think if you are looking for a characterful place in Charlestown other places are a better bet.

I wouldn’t consider a tenner for a jacket potato in a footy pub to be good value at all.

Nice to go to a bar especially in a tourist area where you do not get ripped off by cost of drinks! Music at the weekend with so good groups, very popular with the local crowd. It seems to be the place in Charlestown where it is happening at the weekends! Good pub food for both lunch and dinner.

Wandered in for a quick dinner. The burger was great, loads of crunchy salad and a bun that held together for the whole meal. The chips were so crispy, just as they should be.

We had the steak and upgraded our meal with the Garlic Prawns. Fantastic food and staff very helpful. Was a tad noisy but football was on and it was a Friday evening. The Inn is on the Harbourside (hence it's name) and has lovely views.

called in early evening, the place is characterful, but modern. The food was tasty, broccoli could have been cooked just a tad more for my liking. You pay at the bar when you order the food and you have to collect your own cutlery etc.

We visited for lunch yesterday while visiting the area on holiday. It was a nice friendly English pub on the front by the harbour and food was delicious.

Wanted a drink this afternoon when visiting Charlestown and all signs pointed to this place given we had our dog (family member) with us. Think it's been recently renovated. To a high standard too. High ceilings, light and bright. No sea views but the floor to ceiling windows at the front but views of the tall ships masts made up for it. Plenty of seating. Can't comment on any food as we didn't eat here - too early in the day. Thank you for welcoming our fur baby!

Family meal here, beautifully located in Charlestown. Although I cannot fault the Food, prices are very steep for meals and for drinks. Also mixed service quality, one barmaid (brunette) very happy, helpful and friendly and the other (blonde) the total opposite.

On our way back from Looe early on a Sunday evening my wife, son,his girlfriend and I thought let's see if I can get something to eat in Charlestown.Having eaten here before and my son being a fussy eater I knew that we would be able to get something here.We were seated straight away and quickly choose 3 steaks,I chose the spicy seafood jambalaya. All meals were served quickly, very tasty and were excellent value.Definitely be going back again Shelley, Tony, Tom and Sky April 2017

All I will say its that they are clearly getting ready for the Summer Tourists.A great dish of Mussels and Chips, which was always good food and good value, has suddenly got up about a fiver.I know potatoes haven't gone up in price and the local Mussels are still pretty much the same price so the only logic I can think of is that they are saying "To hell with the locals; we'll make a big profit out off the tourists during the holiday season"It's a corny old short term view and, if you're not bothered about the locals business, you might get away with it. Longer term, only time will tell.I think it's a shame when a local and well respected brewery (St. Austell Brewery), who are probably one of the oldest in the country, resort to these type of profiteering tactics. I guess shareholder dividends will always outweigh customer satisfaction.

Whilst visiting the lovely village of Charlestown we ate lunch here. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the service was good. We enjoyed a very delicious lunch. The crab cakes were so good, served with salad and chips. My husband had bubble and squeak, it was very tasty, and a lot of it. Would definitely recommend. Also dog friendly. A good place for families.

We stayed a two minute walk away from this fabulous pub/restaurant in the pretty and peaceful village of Malpas so The Heron was our local for a sadly short time. Firstly the view of the river from the covered verandah and from the windiws is just stunning even on a dull Oct eve. The welcome from the front of house team was warm and friendly. The decor was tasteful and there was a buzzing atmosphere with full tables which was surprising fir a Monday. The food: Yum Yum Yum My hubby loved his flatiron steak, cooked medium rare to perfection and juicy. My cod was gorgeous and the fish platter was stunning. We shared two trifles as we were full but couldn't resist and they were so delicious. Just a nice size serving and just the right amount of sherry. Really lovely place, well worth a visit. I would stay in Mlpas again for many reasons and The Heron Inn is right at the top of those reasons. Lucky locals!

Lovely friendly pub in a beautiful spot overlooking the river, conveniently located at the end of the Bissoe Trail, so excellent for cyclists and walkers. Sunday roast was hot and tasty, with great Yorkshires and buttery roasties. Had a pint of Potion No9, which was well kept and good. Will definitely be back.

We first visited on a holiday in Penzance, nearly 19 years ago, and while we hadn't been back in the meantime, hadn't forgotten the food and quirkiness. In August this year we spent a few hours in Penzance, so a fair chunk of that was spent trying to find this pub we remembered! We were so pleased we did - still great atmosphere, great service, great food. Hopefully it won't be 19 years before we're back next!
