28-Apr-23 D'Angelo Orpington. Visited on a Friday evening for dinner. Received a warm welcome even though it was my first visit. Nice Aperol Spritz and San Pellegrino to start. Burrata was excellent with saffron strands topping. Seafood risotto was OK but lacking depth of flavour. I was surprised it wasn't busier, but appreciate there's a lot of local competition. I'd happily return, and try a different main course that might be more to my taste.

Hi, Ken from Doorsteps here:
Having hurt my back again, I am recently finding it very difficult. Consequently I will be having a couple weeks rest!
Hope to see you all again in the New Year, Happy Christmas.
We had dinner here. The menu is a bit unusual, with not too many homely choices, but we both had shoulder of lamb, which turned out to be a stew. Very pleasant and nicely presented it was too. Staff were (I think) somewhat inexperienced but very keen to do the right thing and there were no mistakes.
It must be said that the dining room is rather cramped and the walls are painted dark red, which makes the whole room rather claustrophobic. We took coffee after the meal in the sitting room adjacent. A little biscotti or even a petit four with the coffee would have been a nice touch but was not offered. We enjoyed the visit. £100 two courses for two people, plus bottle of wine and two coffees. That includes a 10% service charge added to the bill. Don'tthey know it's 2023? Just increase the prices by 10% and omit the service charge -- it just rubs people up the wrong way. (Some people will then add their voluntary tip on top anyway.)
Fairly average fish and chip shop - I’ve had worse but I’ve definitely had better. The chips weren’t very well cooked quite long enough being a bit soggy with no crispness, and the cod had quite a thick batter that was a bit stodgy on the inside; both were quite greasy. The fish itself tasted ok, but completely disintegrated as soon as a knife and fork touched it.
The fish was already cooked when I came into the shop but I was assured it was recently cooked (they would say that wouldn’t they?) Cod, small chips and mushy peas cost £10.50. The portion sizes were generous.
The food was placed in a plastic bag rather than a paper one which is never a good sign, and would have made it go even soggier if I didn’t remove it as soon as I got to the car.
Ok if you’re local and don’t want too drive far but I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to get food from here when there are several better options such as Skippers not far away.
I was extremely disappointed with my experience at The Moat House Coffee Shop. They advertise themselves as child-friendly, but my toddler and I were made to feel anything but welcome. Despite the inevitable mess that comes with young children, which I was actively cleaning up, staff approached me and asked us to leave because my child was “too messy.” This was not only embarrassing but also contradicted their supposed family-friendly ethos. If you’re a parent looking for a welcoming space, I’d recommend going elsewhere. A truly child-friendly establishment should show patience and understanding, not intolerance.
Friendly staff, unfortunately the location is quite boring and not very inviting to sit in. The chai latte was OK and value for money is absolutely given. Would order the latte with less sugar for my taste.
There was also no WiFi so it's not a good place to work.
