Fairly average fish and chip shop - I’ve had worse but I’ve definitely had better. The chips weren’t very well cooked quite long enough being a bit soggy with no crispness, and the cod had quite a thick batter that was a bit stodgy on the inside; both were quite greasy. The fish itself tasted ok, but completely disintegrated as soon as a knife and fork touched it. The fish was already cooked when I came into the shop but I was assured it was recently cooked (they would say that wouldn’t they?) Cod, small chips and mushy peas cost £10.50. The portion sizes were generous. The food was placed in a plastic bag rather than a paper one which is never a good sign, and would have made it go even soggier if I didn’t remove it as soon as I got to the car. Ok if you’re local and don’t want too drive far but I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to get food from here when there are several better options such as Skippers not far away.

Visited 25/11/22 after many local recommendations. Won’t be going back. Fish was very greasy and the batter had a weird taste to it.

Have used Lee's Fish Bar regularly for over a year now. It's always very nicely cooked and the staff very helpful. I am a disabled customer and if in my car, the lady owner comes out to the car - which is very kind.

They serve great Fish and Chips but also pies, sausages etc., great crispy batter and fresh flaky white fish. We have been using Lee's for a great many years and have never been disappointed.

Getting Fish and Chips in the South is a challenge. In Yorkshire, great fish and chips are around every corner. When I first moved South, 30 years ago, getting food poison after every visit to the chippy, put me off. We wanted Fish and Chips for my mother in law - it's her favourite following her stroke. After trying most in Wokingham, we visited her to take them to her. They suffered with being left wrapped up for 30+ minutes - fish and chips are best eaten fresh, Firstly, the chip shop was clean, Spotless. Always a good sign. Secondly, the fish was excellent. We had haddock and and it was cooked perfectly. The batter suffered from the journey (we think) and was soggy. If it hadn't been tightly wrapped for so long, it might have held the texture better. Thirdly, the chips were okay. Not outstanding, but made with real potatoes and a good consistency. We want to try again and eat them before taking them so far. But this seems to be the best chippy in the area.

Went on Saturday after fireworks, still an hour till closing. The batter on the fish was ridiculously salty and grease, oh my, the grease on the sausage, chips, fish and even in the curry sauce. Won't be going back again, what a shame as these were really good

Used Lee's 3 or 4 times ince moving into the area and as people say in these reviews it's always freshly cooked and the pieces of cod used are always of good quality with large sizable flakes of cod, none of the measly pieces sometimes served up as "large cod"!

In my search for the perfect chip butty and now have pretty much found it! Popped in this lunch time with my two young daughters, ordered cod, large chips and a fish cake all for £8. The staff were friendly and asked if I was ok to wait 5 minutes for the cod, nice touch as had I not been could have been annoying! It was freshly cooked and waited no more than 5 minutes and whilst waiting the lady engaged with my daughter's which they loved. Got home, food was still piping hot and we all enjoyed our chip butty and fish. Only slight criticism was that the paper of the cod was soaked in so much oil but may have been because it was just cooked and had had no time to rest, didn't detract from the taste, all delicious! After a poor experience from another local fish & chip recently, Lee's is the new favourite!

not sure if that's the standard of fish and chips in the area because it has such good reviews but in comparison to other areas of the country it was shocking. ordered 2 x cod and chips, fish was okay but the batter let it down and the chips were okay but you could count them on your hand. very poor overall, friendly staff though!

My family and I have been customers of Lees fish and chips since we moved down south from Glasgow 29 years ago. I can honestly say that the quality is of the highest standard, the portions are big and generally always cooked to order due to it being busy all the time. The queue moves quickly as they have a great team behind the counter. They used to do Chinese takeaway years ago, which was also delicious but they stopped it to concentrate on their main business, which was fish and chips. The shop is always immaculately clean. I dread the day they ever decide to retire!

We have been getting our fish and chips from Lees for many years, there is no doubt that they are the best fish and chip shop in our area. The service and food is top quality, sometimes it is so busy that parking can be an issue, but the service is so fast and efficient customers move through quickly, so no problem really.

Probably use about once every 3 weeks for fish and chips for the family and have NEVER been disappointed over the years.Tucked away, a bit out of sight, a few metres off the A30 southbound and occasionally can be a bit tight to get parked if unluckily timed with others. Usually much quieter after 2000hrs.Reliably clean, quick and friendly. Portions are large, always well-cooked and delicious. Menu is quite extensive but we have nearly always stuck to the staple F&C. You can't go far wrong here.

This place is just down the road from where I live luckily. We have a choice of 4 or 5 places and if Lees is closed I am gutted. Everywhere else is just second rate. The main thing for me is I have never ever found a bone in any piece of cod or haddock that I have had from there. The pieces are always large and meaty. The service is excellent and efficient. Even when there is a big queue it is worth the wait and to be honest you never have to wait that long anyway.

I have visited on a Friday evening with a friend. The food was great, service fast an efficient. Only downside to our dinner was the fact we have been sat in a small room with lights everywhere (spot lights, chandelier and wall lights) which was an atmosphere killer. We have enquired about dimming or turning some off, which was not possible (all on one circuit), we were not offered to be relocated into an area of the pub with less lights and more atmosphere.

I’ve been coming to Tylney since 2010 for special occasions such as birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries etc. sadly it’s gradually gone down hill and this will possibly be my last visit. I dined at the oak room this week and when the menu was put in front of me i had no idea what to order. The menu was outdated, stuffy and very overpriced. Long gone are the days where you sat in the library, had your amuse-bouch and marvelled at what to order. Your order was taken prior to your arrival at the oak room and your wine was waiting at your table for your arrival. I ended up ordering by eliminating either incredibly boring options like soup and ludicrously expensive ones like £47 Dover sole. I had the whipped goats cheese starter and the pork main. The food tasted nice but it really was nothing special. The menu was just lacking in creativity and provenance. Back in the day you’d walk in the oak room and there was live piano, candles on the table and the silver cloche covered your food and was beautifully removed when the dish was in front of you. All these details made the extra cost worth it. When you pair it all back sadly it’s just not worth it anymore. I know places like Tylney are incredibly expensive to run so some adjustments have to be made but these are the things that made it special and kept us coming back over the years. Places like The Pig have left Tylney behind. Perhaps it’s time to rethink the French menu for something with provenance, after all Hampshire is a rich county. Back in the heyday of Tylney Hall 20-30 years ago, I appreciate that English food and wine wasn’t as well known or at the level it is at today but it would perhaps be more imaginative, creative and attract more guests if the menu was adapted to be the ‘best of British’ - including all of the wonderful food that Hampshire and neighbouring counties can offer (including the wine!). Back in the 1990s this sort of traditional French menu felt exciting but by today’s culinary standards it is bland and mediocre. On this visit we also found out that the old snooker table is gone. It broke and it was taken away, never fixed. This is incredibly sad as it was a family tradition to have a game of snooker after dinner in a room which was full of history.
