Fox and Hounds in Hart

We arrived for lunch on Friday afternoon. Due to a road closure nearby we arrived a little late at 1.58pm. We stood at the bar for a few minutes. The landlord asked if we were there for lunch, if so the kitchen closed at 2pm! We asked if we could have simple sandwiches but were refused. We had a drink and some crisps and left. Such a shame as previously we had a nice meal. To be refused lunch at 2pm on a Friday is unacceptable and we will not be returning.

This establishment is always rated highly by locals - check out Fleet People on FB as an example So what better time to finally try it out, than on a Sunday We hadn’t booked, but because we dropped by during the hours between lunch and dinner, they were good enough to find us a table As expected, it was just, but not over crowded Decor is nothing special, standard pub affair, but does have a great beer garden over looking the Basingstoke Canal, at the rear Service was fantastic throughout The adults had something from the Roast menu and our lad selected something from the kids menu He enjoyed his meal, with his only gripe being it was quite small for him, portion wise The portions of the roasts were more than sufficient and was tasty….with the exception of the giant Yorkshire puds Cant explain why, but mine tasted like it was off and my wife’s tasted of washing up liquid Overall, we would still come back 👍🏼

First time at this Pub. Ordered the Steak and Ale pie with mash which was very good. Service was quick with friendly staff.

Staying the night in nearby Hook, we decided to eat here, having read good reviews. So pleased we did. Great service and fantastic food at good prices. Very good gluten free options. Even on a Monday evening, it was busy, so well worth making a reservation in advance. Just wished we lived locally as would visit regularly.

This is our first visit to the Fox and Hounds and certainly won’t be our last. The food is amazing everything down to the portion sizes, taste and presentation. We ordered 2 of the steak and ale pies, 1 sausage and mash & a Cajun burger. The pies had beautiful pastry and tender filling and the portions were huge, 3 tasty sausages with smooth mash & seasoning veg. For desert we had the treacle sponge and custard, crumble & sorbet again outstanding. A beautiful gem of a pub with lovely staff and very tasty food

Everything about our visit was perfect. The tables are well spaced out to create atmosphere whilst retaining an ability to converse easily. The food, served promptly was delicious. They offered to bill us individually as we were a group of co-workers. The service was impeccable. The whole experience has left me keen to return as soon as possible. It was great to be in a pub on a Monday lunchtime that was doing a roaring trade.

Nice pub by the canal. We just cycle along and it is nice to visit a good pub, with lots of friendly dogs also being welcomed.

We had been recommended the Fox and Hounds by a couple of people and we were not disappointed. I would recommend booking as we went on a Monday lunchtime and it was packed. We received a warm welcome and served drinks quite quickly. The food is freshly cooked to order so expect a short wait. I had chicken parmigiana and my husband had the special burger which was Korean bbq. Both our meals were delicious. I couldn't resist the salted caramel flake cheesecake while my husband had lemon sorbet. All in all a lovely lunch at reasonable prices with good service and a friendly atmosphere. We will definitely return.

Love this place. Huge portions and great quality. The one place my wife and I agree on! Very reasonable as well, go here often at least once a month

Consistently great food - I recommend the hunters chicken, BBC or salmon sandwich - and now they do delicious ice cream by the scoop!

Not eaten here yet, so can't rate the food, but from what I saw it looked good. It's a busy but well managed pub, great for an evening drink close to the canal.

What a lovely traditional pub. Food was outstanding ( Chicken and Leek pie from the specials), the staff and service just wonderful. 100% recommended.

We celebrated 18th birthday with a roast. There were 14 of us including a toddler. The staff were amazing and made sure we had everything we wanted. The roast beef was amazing as was the chicken, pork and vegetarian nut roasts. In particular the vegetables were freshly prepared and plentiful. Thank you for a meal to remember.

Had a great roast dinner, walking from dogmersfield along the canal to fleet, arrived without booking the staff surprisingly managed to find us a table,my roast beef was cooked to perfection with great flavour,ample fresh potato, parsnips broccoli cabbage carrots and large Yorkshire pudding,my wife had the nut roast which also was full of flavour, would have had the apple crumble and custard which looked great but couldn't fit it in

This place was recommended to me by a friend a couple of years ago. It has a lovely warm atmosphere and I always receive a friendly welcome each time I have visited. It has a lovely seated area outside in the summer, next to the canal. Great for when you take the family with you. There is a climbing frame and slide for the young ones. They offer table service inside but you can order at the bar if sitting outside. Lunch from 12pm - 2pm but they remain open through the afternoon for drinks. Great if you are sitting out in the sun watching the world pass by on the canal. All the food we have tried has been amazing....Burgers, Pies, Fish and Sandwiches. The jacket potatoes look and taste amazing! The best jacket potato around! Dessert isn't something I would usually have but their Cheesecake is to die for 👌 Highly recommended eating at the Fox & Hounds.

We had not been to the Fox & Hounds since before covid. But a neighbour recommended it. Absolutely thrilled we have rediscovered it. Both myself & my friend can only eat small portions. We were told about the childrens menu and it was absolutely amazing. Our partners had the main course and all 4 meals were exceptional. Thoroughly recommend and also a big thank you to the staff, well done everyone. It is adviseable to book.

Visited for a reunion on the Friday, then came back on Monday for a meal. On both occasions, the atmosphere was amazing. The food was exceptional. We will see you all again soon

Lovely local pub, should go more often. The menu has a great selection. Service is good and you never have to wait for anything. Dog friendly which is a bonus. Thanks for looking after us.

Had never been able to get a table at the Fox and Hounds before and now I know why. Best roast in Fleet by miles- perfectly cooked and a very generous portion. Beautiful location backing on to the canal and really friendly staff. Will be back soon for sure.

Fantastic Sunday lunch at the Fox & Hounds today. We had been trying to book here for a couple of weeks and they were always fully booked but they finally managed to squeeze us in and so very glad they did. This was without doubt the best pub Sunday lunch I have ever had, we had the roast beef which was superb, perfectly cooked with a great selection of veg and a spectacular yorkshire pudding, followed by apple crumble - couldn't fault any of it.

A local treasure...brilliant everything and a super pint if courage best...

Was recommended here ages ago and finally had a meal. Literally the best pub meal I’ve ever had! Scampi was amazing as were the chips. Hubby and friend enjoyed their steaks too. Nice quiet corner to eat in. Highly recommend.

Probably one of the best pork belly roasts around! Never disappoints! They also serve the best steak and ale pie I've ever had! Absolutely incredible!

We’ve visited plenty of times but never left a review. This really is a great local pub. It offers everything you could want. The staff are always friendly, the service is attentive but relaxed. Dog’s are welcome in the bar with water and treats provided. A proper selection of real beer is on tap. The food is typical of a local family run pub… the sunday roasts are delicious with good portions and reasonable prices.

We revisited the pub today after quite a few months, and we were pleasantly surprised by the welcome we received from the staff. The food was superb, and so was the beer. Even though the place was busy, the service was excellent. September 20th 2023 Another visit on the above date, yet again, superb food & service, we rate it very highly. As a family we regularly visit for a meal. The food and staff are without doubt the best around...however on the evening of our vist there were at least five dogs inside the the pub,two in the restaurant.I like dogs and have been a dog owner but what I dont want to see is a dog sprawled out with it's back end facing me when I am eating, I had to move seats,also a couple behind me had their dog on their lap feeding it from a plate,it was then placed in a chair with it's paws on the table..not withstanding the health & Safety issue I think it is totally disrepectful to other groups eating and to the staff that have to clean up after they have gone! I personally think dogs should not be allowed where people are eating,but I suppose that's down to the owner. At the very minimum,dogs should be left outside away from guests having s meal..This is to dog owners in general..some people believe it or not,don't like dogs. I e-mailed the pub about this but so far no response...kindly keep dogs out of the restaurant. Many thanks

Had a very nice meal. Good portions. Since Covid its been my experience that many pub restaurants are grossly understaffed, but I’m pleased to say this was not the case here.

This is such a gem and a must visit. The food is always incredible, and the team is friendly and welcoming. This is definitely our favourite pub in Fleet!

Went on Sunday evening ,.table booked for 6 pm...5 of us plus a dog. Had a table inside...service was excellent and friendly...we had the roast pork..roast beef .steak pie..Thai chicken burger and halloumi burger and some side dishes....I never order a roast out because I prefer my own roast but I fancied the belly of pork and I wasn't disappointed...couldn't fault anything on the plate. .it was almost like I had cooked it myself!!!!! All the meals were excellent ....can't wait to eat there again. Well done to the team!!!!

Fabulous pub with direct access to the Basingstoke Canal. Good selection of ales on tap and a good variety of food on the menu, plus daily specials and a roast on a Sunday. Kids menu is thorough and well priced. As well as having access onto the canal, there is also a small children's play area.

Somewhat grudging service of a lunchtime drink.

Eight of us went for a celebratory meal on Sunday. 5 Roast Beef, 1 Meat Pie, 1 Fish & Chips and 1 Burger & Chips. We all praised the meals. The Beef was cooked exactly as individually requested. The Meat Pie was rated the best ever, as were the Fish and Burger. The Chips were amazing, chunky and very tasty. Portions were very large and the service exemplary. No wonder The Fox & Hounds has a very good reputation and is always busy, so booking is advised.

Unusually for the fox and hounds the service was a bit slow today that's why I only gave it four stars instead of five for service everything else was top notch as usual

A great local pub with a good choice of beers, great garden next to the canal and excellent food. A great choice on a sunny weekend.

Booking advised. Great food. Halloumi burger was stunning. The accompanying coleslaw was extremely good. Scampi was really crispy and tasty. The chips, wow! the chips. Thick cut and crispy skins with the fluffiest of potato fillings inside. Beautiful. The superbly crafted steak and ale pie was well filled and enjoyable. The chef really cares about the food. Such a shame that the service was slow and unattentive. Took forever to get a drink and then not to be asked for another, throughout the meal, was poor. Good prices for what we had. Could have spent more on drinks, had we have had the chance. Fantastic food, service needs improvement. *Back again for Sunday roast* Really good. Reassuringly expensive but well presented and well cooked. Once again, the young servers were more interested in chatting by the specials board, than offering an attentive service.

Booked our normal quarterly family lunch/dinner here and this time shown to arguably the best table in the house Service good, drinks orders taken and served and food orders taken. Everything was spot on including the wonderful Roast Sirloin of beef. Not sure how but we had room for desserts and this is where the great consistency in the visit fell apart. Two of us ordered the “Crumble of the Day” at £6:50 a pop. What arrived can only be described as a very small apple tart with enough custard in the jar to serve 10 of the portions. Pointed out to the waitress that we found the 2 desserts to be very small in both size and value and could she mention it to either the kitchen or landlord As the landlord walked past our table 10 minutes later to change a barrel it was obvious that she did not pass on our comments, although she said she did when she brought the bill. No deduction made for the poor value desserts. We will go again no doubt as this was not the norm but hope it doesn’t repeat itself.

By far the Best and Only pub in Fleet, lovely atmosphere, warm welcome from Caroline & Graham, nice to see Courage Best on drag up,, its been a long time since our local in Hartley Wintney had that. Really lovely freshly cooked food and a stunning scenery by the canal to relax. Great Food, Good Beer, Nice Hospitality, Clean Pub , Great views, what more could anyone ask. Never heard a negative report about this establishment and its always busy, restaurant always full. Doesn,t that tell you something. These guys are doing it right. Hope to return real soon. Thank you, Thank You, Oh PS, almost forgot and very important.. Beer (Hand pump) was crystal clear and top notch condition. Not bad for a landlord who does not drink it. Thats the key. As a CAMRA member i would recommend The Fox and Hounds to anyone who fancies a lovely pint or/and good proper freshly cooked English food

This is the best British food restaurant, everything always fresh, hot and tasty , best restaurant in fleet, I go elsewhere and always disappointed , all my family love this pub restaurant.

Located on the canal, great in the summer and cosy seating inside in the winter. Staff are friendly, food is good, recommend their burgers and Sunday roasts. Great place for dogs, families and as a destination as you walk, paddle or boat along the beautiful canal.

Lovely spur of the moment lunch. We hadn’t booked but they were able to seat us indoors as we requested. We had the sandwiches which were very tasty and came with chunky chips or salad. The car park was full as expected but we were...

We were a party of six. We had a delicious lunch. A couple of our party had starters - home made soup and baked camembert, which was nicely presented. The homemade steak and ale pie X 5 was very well received. And indeed it was...

Nice looking pub with a lovely garden. The carpark is very small so people end up parking in the road. My main and pudding were reasonably priced and tasty. Service was friendly but slow and one of our groups puddings was forgotten. The phone is VERY loud and kept ringing during the meal, I had the same problem on my last visit too. I would return because of the location and reasonably priced food

We have been here a few times over the last 5 years ( we sometimes have our little boat on canal that is at the end of the Pubs garden , and Moor up), but when we got there couple days ago they weren't taking anymore food as kitchen was busy, this was 12.30pm when we got there. So always worth booking table, we were unlucky as didn't book. But beautiful setting

Such a lovely little pub, the food is simply amazing and the staff are very warm and friendly. It's such a beautiful place to go in the summer to have a drink and sit out back by the canal .There is plenty of seating outside and the pub is also dog friendly.

Fab pub, the food was excellent. It was sunny so there were no tables left outside unfortunately but we enjoyed a lovely meal inside. Highly recommend 👌

always has a few different beers on and good pub grub. Parking a little limited but you can park on the roads close by. Get there early on hot days as tables by the canal are limited. Lovely spot to stop if on a canal walk and had many a pleasant lunch here on a Saturday or Sunday. Inside restaurant is good for family groups.

It’s a friendly , nice and clean pub, service is quick, price are ok .It’s highly recommend place to pop in and grab a cider if you do a hike or cycling along the canal. The pub around 15 km from One end of the canal and you need to do only 35 km to go to another end. :) I enjoyed my cider Thanks

The most wonderful canal-side pub around! Just can’t be beat, having a pint canal-side 🍻 Staff are also very welcoming and efficient. There’s a good selection of bar snacks and top-notch pub food and it’s cosy inside too. Not really my ‘local’, but I walk the extra distance to make it my ‘local’ just because I’m so fond of the place 🤗

Absolutely first class! You won’t be disappointed! Four of us enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch yesterday, two roast beef dinners, one burger and one steak and ale pie. Followed by a salted caramel ice cream and a coconut ice cream! Everything was cooked to perfection...

We go now and again and always have a brill experience. What other pub do you know on a boring wet Weds lunchtime you have people queuing to get in before it opens, the restaurant if full for lunch bookings and the car park is...

Always good food here, reasonably priced and excellent service.

Don't know what it is, but just get a good vibe about this place. Had a burger, it wasn't the best and last time had the chilli con carne which was okay but nothing to rave about.

We eat at the Fox and hounds monthly, and it is always a joy. Food, Staff all 5star no wonder you really need to book. Only down side the car park is a bit small so only one disabled space. But don’t let that put...

This is a very busy county pub. It is next to the Basingstoke Canal and so is very popular with users of the canal. If you are planning N eat in meal book your table in advance as this place gets very busy. We booked on a Friday lunchtime and we are glad that we did as every table inside was full. We had food which was a reasonable price with large servings, I ha Londo Pride which was on tap and it was well presented and in April 2023 was 4.70 a pint which is not bad a price. Staff and service were very good and were helpful and friendly even though the pub was very busy with indoor and outdoor customers. The only point to note is the pub carpark is small so you may end up parking in the road. In conclusion great country pub that is family owned and worth a visit if in the area or if you are enjoying the Basingstoke Canal.

Busy little pub. Nice and friendly, good old fashioned pub food. Chips were to die for big and chunky crispy and fluffy inside. Waitress was lovely . Food was good

Popped in for a drink with my better half and daughter for a very pleasant end to the evening. Throughout all the troubles pubs are having at the moment the Fox is an oasis and I am very grateful to Graham and Caroline for being there. Great little pub 👍
