If I could give 0 I would. We had no running water in our room. I called reception and asked for help, they said they had no maintenance help and there was a wedding on and they couldn’t help us, but to email in and get a refund. So that’s what I did. It’s been a year of me constantly asking for the refund I was promised. They have said they’ll give me £25 but nothing more as they have no evidence of this promised refund (I called from the hotel room). £180 I spent on a nights stay in a freezing cold room with an uncomfortable bed and NO RUNNING WATER. The customer service is shocking, seems they only care about weddings.

I and my work colleagues recently booked a pre Christmas afternoon tea at The Elvetham Hotel. The conservatory where we were seated was lovely and we were looked after so well by Barry and his team. We all enjoyed the sandwiches, cakes, cream scones and ample pots of freshly brewed tea that was served to us. All of our dietary needs were catered for in a lovely relaxing atmosphere. I would throughly recommend The Elvetham Hotel for any special occasion

This is a fantastic country hotel, steeped in history. Dating back to 800 AD, it came to prominence during the tudors with Henry Viii meeting Jane Seymour (3rd wife) here. Later, Elizabeth 1 was a visitor who brought her court here for a major festival. The hotel was destroyed by fire and the latest incarnation dates from 1890. Our room was lovely, nice bathroom suite and the food was high standard. However, the restaurant service was spureb, attentive without hovering or rushing us

We highly recommend The Elvetham Hotel. This venue will always hold a special place in our hearts as the location where we got married this September. From the very beginning of our planning journey right through to the day itself, the Elvetham team provided first-class support and truly exceeded our expectations. On our wedding day, the operations team went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. A huge thank you to our amazing wedding co-ordinator, Amelia, who joined us later in the process but made an incredible impact. She was always on hand to answer our questions, ease our minds, and make everything run smoothly. The Elvetham is not just a stunning venue but also a place where the staff genuinely care about making your experience unforgettable. My wife and I are already looking forward to visiting this wonderful hotel again in the future to relive the amazing memories on our first anniversary. If you're considering The Elvetham for any special occasion, we promise you won't be disappointed. Thank you again to the entire team! H & D

This is a hotel that we check in at about 8-12 times a year. I wanted to spend a nice day with my newly engaged wife. There was a very rude person at the reception (I think her name was Jo). I told her that we had a suite reservation, she gave me a room numbered 105. After asking if this was a suite (I knew it wasn't because I had stayed there before) she said no it wasn't a suite, the only suite I had was a hole in the ceiling. When I told her that I wouldn't be staying here, that the reservation was for a suite and that we paid for a suite, (and we didn’t inform about this situation in advance) she gave me an extremely disrespectful answer saying "the price you paid is discounted, it's perfect for this room too". I took advantage of the early booking opportunity and got a suite. She told me that I had to wait for the reception manager, when the manager came, she assigned us to the suite without any problems and we were able to sleep in the suite. Check your room type and number and be prepared for a rude welcome. This is not the old Elvetham. Most of the staff has changed. I won't be going again, that's for sure. They lost a good customer.

Lovely location Hotel looked great and steeped in history staff at reception polite and friendly We were in room 43 and on entering there were two fans on but the temperature was still 27c me personally I slept well and woke up seeing the temperature had dropped 23c, not the case for my husband and dog they both slept badly because it was far too hot, Second day we closed the curtain and even though it was much more sunny a day we managed to get the temperature down to 26c, Would we stay again yes but not £120 a night in room 43, We would request a cooler room for that price,

Beautiful hotel, lovely gardens and very interesting history. However, like other reviewers, I have a few niggly things, but most importantly and unfortunately, the service levels let the side down. We were the only people in the restaurant at dinner, and one of our party of four did not receive his appetiser and upon notification, it still didn’t show up at all. They then forgot his main course and by the time they served it everyone else had finished their two course meal. We spent a lot on dinner and a good bottle of French champagne and a fine bottle of red coming to over £400. We mentioned this to the night manager, when he came into the restaurant, which was now in almost complete darkness as they had forgotten to turn on the lights . We also mentioned it to the manager at breakfast who said they would inform reception, but when we checked out at reception, they had not heard about the problem and did not offer any apology or compensation. In fact when she asked what was the problem we pointed out again that one in our party had not received his meal until after everyone else had finished and her comment was “…well when you got the food it was good, wasn’t it?” A few other points, if such a nice hotel is trying to be a four-star hotel, I would certainly recommend the availability of cappuccino and espresso at breakfast instead of just carafe coffee. Also orange juice was from a packet or a can and certainly not fresh or “not from concentrate” or any of the other quality options available. I would suggest waiting until the Hotel is under new management to try this beautiful property. With today’s competitive world and customers a click away from passing you over, I really don’t expect a management team with this service level to stay viable. Update – and as expected, a month later and not a single response from the Hotel even to my phone calls and emails have emailed the management company and the ownership company. They just don’t care.

We visited for afternoon tea last Saturday. The building and grounds are impressive and very well kept with manicured lawns and pretty planted areas. Inside there are many historical features and works of art. We were shown to our table near the doors leading out to the lawn giving a lovely outlook over the gardens. We had a glass of champagne whilst we waited for our afternoon tea to be brought out and when it arrived we were not disappointed. The sandwiches were ham and mustard, egg and cress, and cream cheese. There were plain and fruit scones with cream and jam and the top plate was a lovely mix of delicious cakes and macaroons. The pastry chef did an excellent job. The service was very good, the waitresses were very attentive and friendly. All in all a lovely afternoon and we all agreed we would happily return.

Id like to start by saying your staff and the location are both wonderful and this is not a reflection of either. However, after paying £300 for a room for Saturday night we would not return. The quality of the rooms is not fantastic - we had mould in the bathrooms, the shower handle was missing, overall cleanliness of the bathroom wasn’t great. They are just very small and basic rooms. We went for dinner and found a wedding was taking place and they were basically taking over the entire hotel, including the separate guest bar. One of the wedding guests had thrown up over the water station in the bar and I had to inform the staff as it had not been recognised. It did not feel like a luxury stay at all. The food was quite good, however when we arrived the menu had been shortened to a limited choice compared to the menu on the website - guests should be informed of this before booking as the options were not fantastic. We had breakfast included in the menu and it was not great quality. For the amount paid for a one night stay we expected a good quality stay with a good quality room, instead it wasn’t fantastic and we felt we were intruding on a wedding that was happening - would not return because it was not value for money in our experience.

Four star hotel in beautiful grounds and with steeped in history. Delightful to walk around inside and out. Just a few little niggles regarding lack of mini toiletries for the bath (the ones fixed to the wall were not teachable from the bath and only consisted of hand wash and body lotion. Room 207 is amazing. Allegedly the biggest room in the hotel and included a hand steamer for clothes as well as ironing board and iron. The dresser/desk has no drawers and no mirror near the sockets for hairdryer etc. The beautiful full length mirror was nowhere near and sockets. I was pleased I had brought my vanity mirror. Staff are lovely and very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good in the orangery with beautiful views of the gardens. The guy who was 'front of house ' was very helpful and considerate. The Good- beautiful historic estate, stunning gardens and grounds, all the food we had was delicious, room was lovely, very comfortable bed, great bartender! The Bad- found a wet and we assume dirty towel under the bedsheets when we got ready for bed, front desk quickly remade the bed but would’ve appreciated a free drink, small discount on the room, or something to try and make up for something I’ve never experienced in a hotel before. We went for dinner with a group of 8 in the restaurant and while the food was delicious and the staff was very nice, it took three hours to be served our meal. When we came down for breakfast we had to wait for a table which is fine, but the buffet was a bit underwhelming and we were never able to get any coffee, tea, or water. It's now been two weeks and they have yet to resolve this issue, even after assuring me they would remedy the situation within the week. Still an enjoyable stay, beautiful property, just wished the service had matched the quality of the space and the food.

The Elvetham Hotel is almost everything you are looking for in a quintessential British countryside destination. The manor house is situated on 35 acres with a beautiful 5k walking trail through the fields and forests. The old-English vibe really comes through in the decorative style and large open public spaces, bar and dining room. It’s been well maintained and makes for an idyllic weekend escape. The value for money proposition is exceptional. On the other hand, the staff seemed overwhelmed and overworked, although they tried their best. A few short fuses after numerous miscalculated receipts at check-out, was a cause for concern. Perhaps is was the first big weekend of the Summer? Some solid training and additional support would quickly remedy the situation. I’d return, for sure.

Beautiful grounds well attended to, perfect for walks. The hotel was also well taken care of, it had a beautiful restaurant with well executed dishes and a very nice bar for drinks. Generally a very pleasant stay, and good value for money. We stayed in the stables in the family room as we had our dog with us. The room was basic but descent , clean and quite spacious. On the negative side, I didn’t appreciate the extra charge of 25£ for an early check in and another 35£ for our Chihuahua to stay. The lady at reception was quite sharp about it. Not at all about the charge but we weren’t informed of it and also i found it quite unusual. Reception is also quite hard to get hold of via phone, i had to call multiple times and was always forwarded to a message or was told that i would get a call back. Staff was polite but inexperienced , mostly students that could not give information for anything. Breakfast was also very low quality, we had it in our room and couldn’t eat it, very cheap ingredients on the full English. General impression was good but with some small improvements it could be so much better.

The ugliest hotel I have ever stayed. The room in the main building is disgusting, it smells so badly. There are stains on the carpet and even on the bedlinen. Hair found in the bathroom. No ventilation. The room is not properly cleaned and the smell is horrible, I totally could not sleep because of the moldy odor in the room. Very disappointing experience, would never recommend Elvetham hotel, fortunately stayed here just one night. Hopefully never again! Honestly really cheap rate for a decent and clean room and it’s nice staying somewhere with a bit of history and grounds you can walk around on. Needed a room in this area and this was better than I expected for the money. I saw some complaint about old rooms - mine was in a building across from the main hotel so maybe that made a difference? Fancy bar / restaurant area to sit in too. Love looking at all the old paintings and getting spooked out. This is where Henry VIII spotted Jane Seymour before he decided to off poor Anne Boleyn 👀Room was nice and new, shower was amazing and hot and staff let me have late check out.

Title: Charming Historic Hotel with Exceptional Dining Review: Nestled within an aura of history and character, this lovely hotel proved to be a delightful retreat. From the moment I stepped through its doors, I was transported to a bygone era, yet greeted with modern comforts and impeccable service. The culinary offerings, both at breakfast and in the bar, were nothing short of exceptional. Each dish, skillfully prepared and presented with flair, showcased the culinary expertise of the kitchen staff. The highlight for me was undoubtedly the poached eggs—a true litmus test for any establishment. I am pleased to report that they exceeded expectations, earning a resounding 100% gold star in my book. In addition to the culinary delights, the ambiance of the hotel's dining spaces added to the overall experience, creating an atmosphere that was both inviting and sophisticated. We held a reunion for 30 friends over two nights and three days at The Elvetham. The Events team was brilliant, particularly Gemma Paynter who made sure every detail we requested was accommodated including extended menus, special food requirements, correct room allocations and best of all always responding very quickly. Big thank you Gemma. Next I must thank the Chef, the special menus for our event were excellent, the arancini, crème brule, the salmon, the stone bass require special mention but every dish was excellent and our guests really enjoyed the food. The team that served our two dinners were exceptional, delaying the meals when we requested, and giving us plenty of time before and after dinner to mingle. The breakfast team also need mention for bringing out all those specially ordered omelettes. Thank you Freya for the history tour, it helped is understand what a special place we were visiting. Full marks for location—such an elegant place and could imagine arriving here as a house guest in Edwardian times for a bit of fishin’ and shootin’ though I don’t like either. Really nice airy restaurant with lovely views of the well maintained gardens which you can walk around before or after. Sadly the food doesn’t match the surroundings and greatly overpriced. Also we were unnecessarily asked to remain at the table as they messed about with the bill thinking we were residents and then, as we discovered later, were given the wrong bill though there was little difference in the overall price we calculated. Not very professional really and probably won’t go back though a previous visit the year before was better.

Our Son & Daughter-in-law invited us for Afternoon tea at The Elvetham,( Now a Hotel but was the former home 1591 of Jane Seymour) we thoroughly enjoyed our visit the staff were very attentive, the selection of Sandwiches (Crusts duly cutoff), two scones each with clotted cream and selection of jams in Breakfast pots, Two large pot of Tea, and fine selection of cakes was too much to eat, so the staff kindly put the cakes into a couple of plastic containers for us to take home. We were also offered On the House a glass of wine. We walked around the Hotel and Grounds and had a very enjoyable experience.

One of the worst restaurant experiences of our lives! We were very surprised as always loved the Elvetham and aware that it had changed hands but didn’t expect this! We arrived to a very somber table with one mini candle on it (for a table of 6) and one of the tables was unstable. Basics details throughout were neglected. Ordering drinks was the most farcical experience. My partner ordered a very nice bottle of red wine which was brought to us unopened. The other drinks did not arrive. We then asked someone to open the wine which took another 10 minutes. A waiter appeared, took the wine to a different table, opened it with a very cheap bottle opener and then bright it back to the table with the cork in the bottle. The bottle was not served or tasted! I then complained to the general manager who made up some very weird story. He then came back with another bottle and did pretty much exactly the same thing but this time left the flakey cork on a plate next to me! No care taken at all with opening it and clearly the staff did not know how to open wine. Starters arrived with about 3 waiters none of whom knew what the food was and who had ordered it. I then asked the general manager what was on my plate and he ignored me. I asked again and he said he wasn’t sure he would find out! He never came back. Instead he sent a 16 year old very nice waitress to deal with us. Something very unfair as we were already pretty irate. We then ordered more drinks - a glass of Pinot Grigio and a gin and tonic. We waited and waited. I then complained again and still nothing. After another long wait the bar lady appears at our table (from an entirely different room) to ask what type of gin we wanted!! Still no white wine. This went on and on all evening. The GM was in the background but not dealing with our table as he should have. We ordered a ‘cheese board’ which was bits of horrible cheese from a pick and mix. We had some cheddar which had the plastic rind in it and it was adorned by a manky bunch of grapes and 3 celery sticks that had gone the wrong way! The cheese came without cheese biscuits for which we had to ask twice for. They then arrived and were Jacob’s cheese biscuits. The cheese cost £12. This experience will not be repeated as we will not be returning. What a shame as it’s such a lovely place. I just hope the wedding guests won’t be disappointed today - the wedding room was being prepared when we arrived. Shocking experience especially as it seems to pride itself on trying to be fine dining! What a joke and what a way to train and treat your staff.

We had never visited this historic hotel and now wonder why we haven't been going for years! The welcoming service, delicious food and beautiful family room were wonderful but it was the stunning building steeped in history and the gorgeous grounds that were the highlight. It's like staying in the most interesting, comfortable museum....so much beautiful artwork and the ceilings were to die for. We were delighted to find out that it was the residence of Jane Seymour and it was where she met King Henry vii. Our little girl had a ball running around the vast grounds playing volleyball, giant chess and boules giving us respite from the hum drum of daily life to enjoy a G&T in the sunshine. We were impressed by the beauty of the Tudor-era castle, which took us back in past, surrounded by its impeccable gardens, where beautiful maidens probably passed by in their beautiful dresses. We loved the tea room and the delicacies served in a fine and pleasant atmosphere. This place has a privileged location, surrounded by wheat fields that we can see during walks. The decor is spectacular, very tasteful, everything is brand new, of great quality and perfectly clean. The service is impeccable, the food delicious, the menu is rich and exquisite. I recommend a stay in this 5 star paradise. Great hotel for events such as weddings and various group celebrations. We recommend.

In this stage and ages where service is dropping in hotels and airlines due to poor quality in pay this time was just a prove of bad service. The location was amazing good setting but it was the Fawlty towers in real life. The food terribly cooked my table with 8 people meals not cooked properly waiters lost people walked out without paying total chaos stressful situation. They absolute did not care at all save your money and go to London to eat and celebrate but don’t take the risk and go to this horrendous place.

The setting for this restaurant promises so much but never has something so beautiful been mismanaged and spoilt so much. When we entered interaction was minimal, welcome was awkward and we were left to wander around. We picked a table and sat down but there was confusion and we were approached by 3 different staff members although none asked us if we had been looked after. One bought us some water, another came over to ask if we wanted water (it was clearly there on the table). I ordered wine, it was bought to the table, we weren't shown the label to check it was the right one, no tasting offered, poured into both glasses. Bread was bought to the table, cheap roll, cheap butter. Very poor quality for a restaurant of this standard charging these prices. We ordered the scallops and T-bone steak. The scallops arrived and were actually tasty and done well. As soon as I started eating them the waitress came over with my steak. This was literally a minute after another server had just given me my scallops starter. I politely asked her if she could give me a few minutes to eat my starter but she just stood there and said she would wait for me to finish eating the starter. It was actually quite funny and my partner thought it was hilarious. I genuinely thought it was a fit up and we were on "You've been Framed". Anyway I just scoffed down my starters quickly and my steak was plonked on the table. To make matters worse my partners Vegetable Curry didn't arrive until I had almost finished my main meal. The only positive was that they had forgotten my sauce and so that slowed me down a little bit whilst I waited for them to get it from the kitchen. The food was OK. The steak was cooked well but was a very thin flimsy T-bone, certainly not worth £35+ . Vegetable Curry was bland and unexciting, made up of about 90% sweet potato. It wasn't awful and it wasn't great. Scallops were actually a highlight. Bill came to £130 which was unbelievable given the service and the food quality. The actual location and restaurant is 5 stars which makes it so sad that the staff are so badly trained.

We booked a room at Elvetham Hall for afternoon tea for 30 people. We were very happy with the booking process and the helpfulness of the hotel team in meeting our requirements. The afternoon tea was lovely and there was more than enough food for even the most hungry in our group. The room was very colourful and the hotel had a good atmosphere. The two waitresses who looked after us were very attentive and helpful. The afternoon was exactly as we wished,

We had dinner here recently. The conservatory where we ate is a lovely room with wonderful views over the spectacular gardens. What isn't so good is the dark and depressing ante room where we kicked our heels whilst the serving staff, obviously under pressure, asked us to wait whilst they sorted themselves out. This wouldn't have been necessary if there had been anyone on the main Reception desk when we arrived, or anyone in the building as we wandered along the corridor towards where we guessed we might find the dining room! So, not an auspicious start. From then on things improved considerably. The young woman serving us was charming, helpful and very pleasant. The food was extremely good and the fish perfectly cooked, something that is not often a strong point in British restaurants. Vegetables were interesting and varied and, again, well cooked. The cheese board was a slight disappointment, (though puddings looked good and one quite magnificent). There was a good cross selection of cheeses but the softer cheeses showed obvious signs of very recent refrigeration and had not been brought up to room temperature. Overall this was a good culinary experience but the hotel needs to remember that first impressions do count. Lack of any staff to point out the way to us, and the dismal ante room actually made us feel our booking had been a mistake. Thankfully our very nice server and the good food made a definite difference to the rest of our evening. The star rating is based purely on our dining room experience, rather than our initial arrival. The latter would have been given a one star.

I’ve been coming to Tylney since 2010 for special occasions such as birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries etc. sadly it’s gradually gone down hill and this will possibly be my last visit. I dined at the oak room this week and when the menu was put in front of me i had no idea what to order. The menu was outdated, stuffy and very overpriced. Long gone are the days where you sat in the library, had your amuse-bouch and marvelled at what to order. Your order was taken prior to your arrival at the oak room and your wine was waiting at your table for your arrival. I ended up ordering by eliminating either incredibly boring options like soup and ludicrously expensive ones like £47 Dover sole. I had the whipped goats cheese starter and the pork main. The food tasted nice but it really was nothing special. The menu was just lacking in creativity and provenance. Back in the day you’d walk in the oak room and there was live piano, candles on the table and the silver cloche covered your food and was beautifully removed when the dish was in front of you. All these details made the extra cost worth it. When you pair it all back sadly it’s just not worth it anymore. I know places like Tylney are incredibly expensive to run so some adjustments have to be made but these are the things that made it special and kept us coming back over the years. Places like The Pig have left Tylney behind. Perhaps it’s time to rethink the French menu for something with provenance, after all Hampshire is a rich county. Back in the heyday of Tylney Hall 20-30 years ago, I appreciate that English food and wine wasn’t as well known or at the level it is at today but it would perhaps be more imaginative, creative and attract more guests if the menu was adapted to be the ‘best of British’ - including all of the wonderful food that Hampshire and neighbouring counties can offer (including the wine!). Back in the 1990s this sort of traditional French menu felt exciting but by today’s culinary standards it is bland and mediocre. On this visit we also found out that the old snooker table is gone. It broke and it was taken away, never fixed. This is incredibly sad as it was a family tradition to have a game of snooker after dinner in a room which was full of history.

Just had the Sunday roast carvery. It's under new ownership, only opened this week and it was amazing. With a choice of 4 meats and wide variety veg, lots of different accompaniments you really feel spoilt The roast potatoes are crispy and Yorkshire puddings are perfect. The staff are friendly and attentive and the pub had a lovely atmosphere, very cosy🤩 They are a tapas bar on Monday -Saturday, carvery on a Sunday. We can't wait to come back to try the tapas!

The Bel & Dragon is a great little spot if you’re looking for a laid-back yet stylish place to grab a drink. The vibe is relaxed, with a mix of cozy, rustic charm and modern touches that make it feel both welcoming and a bit special. The staff are friendly and know their stuff, so if you’re not sure what to order, they’ll happily point you in the right direction.
