I’ve been coming to Tylney since 2010 for special occasions such as birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries etc. sadly it’s gradually gone down hill and this will possibly be my last visit. I dined at the oak room this week and when the menu was put in front of me i had no idea what to order. The menu was outdated, stuffy and very overpriced. Long gone are the days where you sat in the library, had your amuse-bouch and marvelled at what to order. Your order was taken prior to your arrival at the oak room and your wine was waiting at your table for your arrival. I ended up ordering by eliminating either incredibly boring options like soup and ludicrously expensive ones like £47 Dover sole. I had the whipped goats cheese starter and the pork main. The food tasted nice but it really was nothing special. The menu was just lacking in creativity and provenance. Back in the day you’d walk in the oak room and there was live piano, candles on the table and the silver cloche covered your food and was beautifully removed when the dish was in front of you. All these details made the extra cost worth it. When you pair it all back sadly it’s just not worth it anymore. I know places like Tylney are incredibly expensive to run so some adjustments have to be made but these are the things that made it special and kept us coming back over the years. Places like The Pig have left Tylney behind. Perhaps it’s time to rethink the French menu for something with provenance, after all Hampshire is a rich county. Back in the heyday of Tylney Hall 20-30 years ago, I appreciate that English food and wine wasn’t as well known or at the level it is at today but it would perhaps be more imaginative, creative and attract more guests if the menu was adapted to be the ‘best of British’ - including all of the wonderful food that Hampshire and neighbouring counties can offer (including the wine!). Back in the 1990s this sort of traditional French menu felt exciting but by today’s culinary standards it is bland and mediocre. On this visit we also found out that the old snooker table is gone. It broke and it was taken away, never fixed. This is incredibly sad as it was a family tradition to have a game of snooker after dinner in a room which was full of history.

We sat down at 19:30 and food did not arrive until 20:45 - all but the fish stone cold! The cashew curry had no cashews. Even if the prices were half what they are, the quality of the food and the cooking was abysmal! At the end we got overcharged by a bottle of wine and there was no manager to be found to help refund us. The waitress did try and credit to her for persevering, but the organisation is very poor. This is our third visit, and the place has steadily gone down hill. The grounds are beautiful but never again.

Our first night of 4 here at Tylney. How on earth can it take 40 minutes for fish and chips, pasta, and caprese salad. After we ordered out on patio, we saw no one forever!! Then, when food arrived, the batter on my fish was dark dark brown which means either the oil is too hot or the oil has not been filtered recently. It was soggy, which tells me that it sat under a serving dome for way too long before we got it. Come on!!! My wife's tortellini was barely warm and flavorless. The caprese salad was the best part of the meal. My 12 year old liked his kids pasta, of that means something! I would have said something to a server but there was no one around, and I mean no one. Not a great start to our stay. The property is gorgeous but, if this is what we are in for as far as food/service, we will try to eat off property as much as possible. What a shame!

Staying at the hotel Gave us the opportunity to try out the Oak room Restaurant I can’t eat large portions so I opted for 2 starters . They were both plated beautifully. I had the salmon mouse on smoked salmon , followed by steak tartare in a teriyaki sauce both were mouthwatering. My friends had the chateaubriand cooked to a perfection

Has all the promise and lovely service by the attentive waiters however the menu didn’t live up to its potential. Plant based tart was bland and full of onions, the Filet Beef was covered in gravy and mash potato lukewarm and lacking any finesse. A real shame as had high expectations and a lovely setting, but kitchen chef was not on their A-game.

Just had an absolutely lovely meal at Tylney Hall. Food, atmosphere and wine list all superb but the real thing I want to praise was the staff. Without exception, every member of staff we interacted with was welcoming, professional and warm, and Damien was especially excellent. He was friendly, funny and a perfect representative for the venue (with beautiful wine pouring skills). I never fault staff when they're busy - working in a restaurant is a fast paced job - but every single staff member here made us feel at ease. The entire meal was unhurried and beautifully presented, and staff were very knowledgeable. We went for a special occasion and it really was. We arrived early so we could tour the grounds first and I would recommend doing this: unfortunately we didn't quite manage to see as much as we might have wanted before our reservation but we'll know to allow more time next time.

As usual the staff from the main door to the Oak Room Restaurant were brilliant. The meals were exceptional though expensive. It used to be a place where I would attend to celebrate a special occasion with friends regardless of cost. I was sorry to find that the the standard of dress in the Oak Room restaurant has been lowered to that of the normal outside restaurants. Some looked as if they had just left the beach while others had lap-tops on the table and were using them whilst eating. Both in the restaurant and the Library Bar my Brandy was served in a whisky glass. The copper in the gentleman"s toilet has not been cleaned since Miss Mooney left and is a disgrace!

My friends and I have been using Tylney Hall for both business and personal purposes for over 30 years. Over the last approx. 20 years The Oak Room has been our go-to restaurant for birthdays, celebrations and, most importantly, our pre Christmas dinner celebration. Our group of 5 or 6 have spent a considerable sum dining at The Oak Room, and until now, it has been a special event with good food, great service in a beautiful house. Until this Christmas…. The lack of attention by the staff, the lack of vegetarian options on the menu, the removal of niceties such as amuse bouche and sorbets between courses, the rolls being left on the table instead of served to guests, nobody taking our coats on arrival or showing us to the lounge, the list is endless and I could go on. On the limited menu, many items were at a supplemental cost to the two or three course menu and to add insult to injury, the only dairy free option in the dessert menu was a sorbet at £11! Not even Christmas turkey or similar roast and Christmas pudding were on offer. Their executive chef is clearly unable to produce suitable dietary options for modern dining. We spent approximately £380 for a paltry meal, we had requested our usual table and were placed somewhere we specifically asked not to be and, a small thing but a big issue in terms of atmosphere, the piano was covered and the usual lounge pianist was nowhere to be seen or heard. We shan’t be returning to Tylney Hall. Their response to our letter of complaint was to offer a discount on a meal for four, obviously they paid scant attention to the number of guests attending the Christmas event, we don’t feel like spending another large sum of money at this establishment. Poor show Tylney Hall. So disappointed.

We had lunch in the lounge, with the fire blazing in the grate and views down the white frosted avenue of trees just before Christmas, is a setting that doesn't get much better. The lunch was divine, simple food cooked and presented with courteous and polite staff. The wine was excellent. How could you not enjoy this luxury? Couple this experience with the ability to walk and explore the majestic lakes and gardens whilst admiring the beautiful historic building that Tylney Hall presents, always make the occasion special. We have been regulars for many years and still enjoy every visit. My advice is go and spoil yourself. Thankyou once again Tylney Hall. See you soon.

We went for a walk in the grounds they called me asking me where I was ...and they need to charge for the extras ..I explained we were walking then having lunch before we left...why did I get asked and harassed... We held a retirement dinner for three colleagues last weekend. There were 79 attending and we were accommodated in the larger of the two banqueting suites. In every respect the service, attention to detail, menu choices, quality of the food and wine etc were excellent. All of the planning and arrangements were undertaken calmly and efficiently. The service on the night was outstanding, and our every need was accommodated without question. It was a really enjoyable meal and would recommend however I must remove a star, despite booking a table we were left waiting outside for 20mins waiting for our table, no offer to take a seat elsewhere at the bar etc. Also at no point did they take our names and there were others waiting so a little unsure whether there was a reservation process at all? My wife was wearing high heels so although this didn't really bother me, it did bother her, in turn, this bothers me. Maybe we caught them on an off day? No further complaints though, a very enjoyable meal in a beautiful setting.

We have been before and excellent food and experience. This time, however was not so good. My meal was OK but clearly not cooked individually. My wife is Coeliac and all that she got was the set meal minus any bits that had gluten in them, i.e. no sourdough with the starter and no gluten free roll as an alternative, no Yorkshire pudding with main, no cheese sauce on the cauliflower and dessert was limited to ice cream or sorbet. We were not even offered coffee. For a hotel selling itself as being as “upmarket” as this, we expected better. Compare this to a local Chinese restaurant who said “you choose from the menu whatever you would like and we shall make a gluten free version for you”. Oh well, unlikely to return, sadly as the grounds are lovely walking.

Christmas lunch at Tylney Hall was a very disappointing experience not to be repeated. The food was extremely poor, not hot and not well presented. We had to ask for a few things that staff had forgotten to put out. The service was very slow, at least an hour between starters and main course. No choice of desserts. When I emailed a complaint the assistant manager made some excuse regarding the 'Executive Chef'. If that's the best their 'executive chef' can do for such an important and expensive meal maybe this hotel needs a rethink! The assistant manager offered a glass of champagne as an apology. I will not be going back for it!

I am interested to see the reviews. Obviously we did not stay at the hotel as the rooms are quite expensive, but the meal in the Oak Room was outstanding. The staff could not have been more helpful, especially because they were ready to adapt anything for my dairy free colleague. You felt safe as staff were wearing masks, including the pianist who was beside us tapping away gently. It was super and much appreciated by us and others around us, especially the children, when Frozen was played. We felt the £38 price tag for 3 course (without drinks) was absolutely brilliant when compared to a recent venue where the ambience was nothing like the Oak Room and the food was much more limited. The meals were well presented and hot especially the sweets which were a work of art. From our experience I cannot believe we are talking about the same Dining Room. As far as I am concerned, it was f a b u l o u s !!

The dinning experience was excellent but what followed was appalling. After finishing our meals we said that we would take a walk around the grounds before returning for coffee. We were asked to pay for the meal so far before we left which, while unexpected, we did. After returning after about a fifteen minute walk we discovered that our table had been closed, there was no seating apparently available in any other areas, but, if we wanted to stand in reception, then there might be something in around thirty minutes. So, an embarrassing end to what started off so well.If you do decide to visit then I would advise you to not leave your table until you’ve completely finished because, once you’ve paid, you’ll find that you’re no longer welcome and the service stops.

The potatoes were excellent but the rest just ok. The beef was really rare, bordering on raw. I had to swap with another in the party and others left it as so under cooked. I mentioned this to two staff and although one looked and agreed it was too rare nothing was done. I truly feel for the chef at The Oak Room. He comes from a 3 AA Rosette restaurant and is trying his hardest to make this restaurant a 3 AA one too and is being let down by the service offered by the staff.

Had a Fantastic Sunday Lunch in the Oak room. The Beef was cooked to perfection and the Roast Pork was the best i have ever experienced. What a wonderful setting to dine in.

Took my partner for a surprise Birthday lunch at The Oak Room today - the first time we’d visited - and we both thoroughly enjoyed the experience from start to finish! Food was all delicious and they cater well for allergies. Everything is clearly marked with what it contains and being gluten free, I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of things I could have off the menu. Our waiter Steve from Liverpool was exceptional! A great guy and a wonderful addition to your team at Tylney Hall.

Tylney Hall is a lovely old house, perhaps not the most up to date but still a very pleasant venue for a family meal in a relaxed atmosphere. We booked in for lunch for 7 of us. Some of our party arrived first and ordered drinks in the lounge. When we arrived a waiter came and took our orders. When he went my husband pointed out that he had been missed out. We had to call them back to fill the order. We didn't get any of the "nibbles" we are used to getting, perhaps they are no longer doing them. Our meal was served and fine although I missed the "unveiling" of the plates with the lovely old silver plate serving cloche. The staff serving us were mediocre except an excellent older gentleman in the lounge. The worst moment was when we were told that we no longer ordered dessert but had to wait for our "turn" to go up to a self service buffet!!! Why in gods name would you want to go to a lovely hotel like Tylney and queue up like you were at a premier inn breakfast buffet for desserts (that looked like they had come from Iceland) that were not improving for being out in the air and so drying out and warming up. This is a real no no Tylney - it looks so cheap, please stop it. This wasn't helped by various staff coming along during the meal and getting chairs out, standing on them and taking photos on the dessert set up on their phones right next to our table. This is so unprofessional it is mind-boggling!!! We went into the lounge again for tea and coffees and had to ask what had happened to our petit fours - when they did come they were underwhelming. Interestingly, when I booked I was particularly asked if it was a special occasion, it was my dad's 91st birthday. Nothing was done to mark that - you used to at least do a special dessert for the birthday boy. Not impressed. Stop trying to cut corners, it doesn't work.

Booked dinner for 8.00pm, but did not get seated until 8.45. The patrons at the next table had been seated since 7 and still no starter. Order taken from a la carte menu, but no food by 9.45. Asked for the manager but there was none available. Steak was cremated, and returned, and wife had finished her meal by the time a rare steak eventually materialised. Decided to pass on dessert as time was already 10.45, when we finished dinner. It may just have been an off night, and breakfast the following morning was much better.

Amazing hotel where we spent one night. Lot of history inside and outside the building. Beautiful garden settings and orangerie where to have breakfast and food straight into the back garden. Attentive staff and rooms on higher flood have a nice countryside view. An amazing discover.

Totally blown away by the quality of the meal we ordered! Both had the crab and prawn linguini which was devine, and amazingly reasonably priced. Great service, too, plenty of staff who were also lovely.

My family and I had a wonderful stay at the Bel & Dragon in Odiham. The room was characterful but comfortable, and included complimentary extras such as sloe gin and chocolates which were a nice touch. The food at dinner and breakfast was delicious, while the staff were attentive and friendly. We hope to come back!
