One of the best farm shops in Surrey and Hampshire. The staff are very knowledgeable and the butchers is world class. The meat and diary products come from the 1000-acre farming operation. The shop also sells award winning cheese. The deli also has some top quality foods. The cafe also offers a great value breakfast. Newlyns is a centre of excellence in its field.

We went to newlyns for breakfast and thouraly enjoyed it, bit pricy but u get what you pay for. We then went to the shop and bought sausages, pies and burgers. When we took the burgers out of the freezer we looked at the ingredients. We were horrified to see what was in them. Monosodium glutamate flavour enhancer and E 120! E120 is a red dye made from crushed bugs!

We stopped off here on our way to the Haynes motor museum in Somerset with a few friends for breakfast. The cafe is spacious and bright, our drinks orders were taken whilst we decided on food. All of us went for the full English breakfast which was delightful. The staff were all pleasant and we were pleased that we chose this as our stop off before heading to Somerset. Would highly recommend and will definitely call in again if I find myself over this way in future.

We got the chance to practise knife skills on lots of different vegetables and fruits as well as some meat as well as getting lots of really helpful shortcuts and tips . As you prepare 4 dishes ( including a desert ) for 2 people and only eat one of them for lunch you are guaranteed to leave with lots of delicious meals. Good quality shop food, and a good selection, but they know how to charge! Then they won't take Amex, which I think is a little hypocritical! Come on guys, I'm sure most of your customers use Amex, and whilst im sure they have other card options, where's your customer loyalty & flexibility? Love the sausages and the pies!!

We enjoyed a long dog walk on the closeby canal and were very much looking forward to lunch at a well regarded farm shop cafe …..but apparently only drinks and cake can be served to their outdoor decking (not hot food or lunch etc). We fully except sitting outside cafes if we have our dog with us. But to be told we can only be served a drink or cake seemed bizarre. What is worse is that a high percentage of uncleared tables clearly had plates that were used for hot food and therefore not just cake. So unfortunately Newlyns Farm Shop lost a customer due to this odd rule. So moral of story……don’t head to Newlyns cafe and ask for an outside table (there is a small area where you are asked to be seated when you walk in the cafe)….if you are wishing to sit outside and eat anything other than a cake and a drink. We were a bit surprised to be denied lunch and we totally realise the pleasant young lady who delivered the news was just doing as asked….so we didn’t wish to give her a hard time, I also wasn’t really in the mood to ask for the manager and debating the policy with them. So we accepted the surprising policy and left hungry. We had managed to get our hands on a menu prior to being told we couldn’t eat 90% of what was on it outside on their decking….Newlyns appear to charge as much as I’ve ever seen at a farm shop cafe (£16.95 for a ‘farmers breakfast’ and even more for a ploughman’s lunch!)….they definitely have their pricing policy extremely up to date, I just wished they could focus on the customer experience a lot better and not waste people’s time by preventing hot food being served on their rather nice outdoor decking area (half the tables appeared to have plates that somewhat contradicted their policy) Sorry, we can’t recommend Newlyns and hope they review their feedback and perhaps mention their odd food serving policy on their website etc?

Met a friend there for a cuppa and a catch-up at 11:00. Delicious tea and coffee outside in the sunshine. Once our thirst quenched we went to the farm shop for supplies of sausages and chops for the next week or two. Then to the deli for lunch supplies. A load of sourdough, some almond danish, terrine, pate and a marmite and cheese sausage roll; then some Délice de Bourgogne from the cheese room completed our visit. All back to our house for a delicious lunch in the summer sunshine with a glass of bubbly under an umbrella on the patio. We asked ourselves “why haven’t we done this before?”

This would be 3.5 stars. The breakfast was clearly made with decent quality items, but the sausage didn't taste of much, nor did the eggs. It's cafe always promises more than it delivers. It has such potential.. but for some reason limited joined up thinking. The vegetarian lunch choice in the cafe is so limited and yet the farm shop itself has things like a great veg fritatta and interesting salads. I had the hummus salad today really poor for £ 10.95. Why can't they do things like scrambled egg on toast all day like other places? Or even the version of croque monsieur without ham, croque madame.. Sorry we won't be going back for a long while. I think there are much better offers locally at a better price point too.

Stopped for breakfast at what used to be a very nice cafe. Espresso was barely warm, and when the food order arrived quite some time later, the avocado on toast with poached eggs was dished up on a piece of untoasted bread which was extremely soggy so went uneaten after scraping off the avocado. The other order was scrambled eggs with smoked salmon with a toasted muffin. Either their toaster is broken or the settings need sorting. The scrambled egg portion was very small for the money charged - £12.99! Staff very uninterested in their customers. Will not go back. After this disappointing start we went into Odiham and had a delicious coffee and croissant at The Folly.

This place trades on the misconception that it sells better quality produce and serves finer food ~ because it is a farm. As such, it sets exorbitant prices which adds to the illusion of high quality. Don’t get me wrong, the quality is ok - in fact, it’s pretty good. But it should NOT be overpriced. I visited the restaurant today, and the shop - with high hopes and expectations, and was shocked at the prices on the menu. Not just that, but some of the menu ‘rules’ were somewhat silly - 5 items for £8 (Toast is 2 items), or 8 items for £12, or I can’t remember how many items for £16.. just 8 I think.. It didn’t seem to make sense - and you could not just have scrambled egg on toast, because it was 4 items. (2 eggs, 2 pieces of toast). You HAD to pay for 5 items! I do appreciate sustainability and high quality organic produce, but none of the food here is organic - other than the eggs. THAT’S IT..! Yes it may well be produced on the farm, from meat reared here, yes it may be higher quality than you might find on the high street - but why does it have to be so expensive if it’s not organic? I can go to Waitrose and buy British Organic produce for half the price - You can argue that it’s better than organic - but on who’s say so? This is what they will tell you - that it’s better.. But Organic is the ONLY standard by which you can measure high animal welfare, no hormones, no pesticides, no chemicals ~ everything else is just a ‘claim’ which cannot be verified, and an excuse to charge higher prices. That’s a fact. How can your claims be verified - if you only tell people that it’s more or less organic - but it can’t be organic because a stream runs through the farm…? That’s nonsense ~ but this is what their butchers say. The food in the restaurant was average, yes the sausage was ok, but it wasn’t cheap..! The portions were pretty small, the tea was weak and the service was questionable.. when I pay £16 for a breakfast, I expect it to be FULLY organic, I expect the portions to be really generous, I expect the service to be impeccable, and I expect a faultless experience. It is far from faultless ~ in fact, it’s a bit of a rip off, to say the least. Yes it’s clean, yes the shop looks great - but the produce whilst from UK apparently, is not organic. it is just exorbitantly priced - massively over-priced for what it is in fact.. £4.50 for a 220ml glass of orange juice - and it’s not organic! Outrageous! You can fool some of the people, but not all of the time. Improve your offerings, Improve your service, go organic if you want to charge the earth.. But don’t charge high prices for food which is just from Uk and non-organic! You’ll be found out..

We have known Newlyn for years - from its infancy as a small farm shop. It’s now an huge enterprise with eye watering prices to match. We have used the cafe over the years and dropped In after a prolonged absence and were looking forward to a nice breakfast. What struck us was the exorbitant prices and we opted for a breakfast which gave you the choice of 5 or 8 items starting at c£9. The bacon was vestigial to say the least - no more than a half a slice. The toast (one of the 5 options) was cheap thinly sliced bread which given they sell a variety, seemed excessively parsimonious. We felt moved to express our disappointment and in fairness they deducted the 2 coffees from the bill. The explanation for the tiny piece of bacon was that they rear their own pigs and the rashers do not “match the size of packaged bacon from Tescos”. The service was perfectly ok and whilst busy, we were served within a reasonable waiting time. For £9 it represented extremely poor value. Regrettably we will not return as a detour is no longer worth it!

We were a little disappointed as the breakfast was highly recommended and expensive. Sausage was tasty but wasn't browned enough. Very small amount of baked beans, this didn't bother me but did my partner. Bacon looked like your average supermarket Bacon and was quite small. The mushroom was big and tasty. The tomato was tasteless, and I didn't eat all of it. The eggs were lovely. The toast came already buttered and, therefore, was cold and soggy. Coffee was small, and the cappuccino was lukewarm. It definitely wasn't worth the money we paid.

Cooked breakfast with a large group, initial drinks order was taken then almost an hour elapsed before the food order was taken. The staff did not know whose order was whose. The food was lovely but the rashers of bacon were actually the smallest, most shrivelled bacon I’ve been served for many years which was a real disappointment given the premium price. Great place to catch up and go for lunch. Staff work very hard and don't stop. They are always understaffed and for operational reasons the morale is low both on the cafe floor and in the cafe kitchen. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a bigger staffing issue as we head through the year both in the farm shop and cafe. It affects the whole place and long standing customers can see the stress and cracks appearing as staff customer service levels start to dwindle and happy chatty staff are no more. Quality of food remains high but waiting times can be a littke longer than normal. Still operating a restricted menu which could do with a mire regular revamp. Cafe price hikes and portion shrinkflation is now evident.

I called reception and asked for help, they said they had no maintenance help and there was a wedding on and they couldn’t help us, but to email in and get a refund. So that’s what I did. It’s been a year of me constantly asking for the refund I was promised. They have said they’ll give me £25 but nothing more as they have no evidence of this promised refund (I called from the hotel room). £180 I spent on a nights stay in a freezing cold room with an uncomfortable bed and NO RUNNING WATER. The customer service is shocking, seems they only care about weddings.

The Bel & Dragon is a great little spot if you’re looking for a laid-back yet stylish place to grab a drink. The vibe is relaxed, with a mix of cozy, rustic charm and modern touches that make it feel both welcoming and a bit special. The staff are friendly and know their stuff, so if you’re not sure what to order, they’ll happily point you in the right direction.

I’ve been coming to Tylney since 2010 for special occasions such as birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries etc. sadly it’s gradually gone down hill and this will possibly be my last visit. I dined at the oak room this week and when the menu was put in front of me i had no idea what to order. The menu was outdated, stuffy and very overpriced. Long gone are the days where you sat in the library, had your amuse-bouch and marvelled at what to order. Your order was taken prior to your arrival at the oak room and your wine was waiting at your table for your arrival. I ended up ordering by eliminating either incredibly boring options like soup and ludicrously expensive ones like £47 Dover sole. I had the whipped goats cheese starter and the pork main. The food tasted nice but it really was nothing special. The menu was just lacking in creativity and provenance. Back in the day you’d walk in the oak room and there was live piano, candles on the table and the silver cloche covered your food and was beautifully removed when the dish was in front of you. All these details made the extra cost worth it. When you pair it all back sadly it’s just not worth it anymore. I know places like Tylney are incredibly expensive to run so some adjustments have to be made but these are the things that made it special and kept us coming back over the years. Places like The Pig have left Tylney behind. Perhaps it’s time to rethink the French menu for something with provenance, after all Hampshire is a rich county. Back in the heyday of Tylney Hall 20-30 years ago, I appreciate that English food and wine wasn’t as well known or at the level it is at today but it would perhaps be more imaginative, creative and attract more guests if the menu was adapted to be the ‘best of British’ - including all of the wonderful food that Hampshire and neighbouring counties can offer (including the wine!). Back in the 1990s this sort of traditional French menu felt exciting but by today’s culinary standards it is bland and mediocre. On this visit we also found out that the old snooker table is gone. It broke and it was taken away, never fixed. This is incredibly sad as it was a family tradition to have a game of snooker after dinner in a room which was full of history.
