We visited for a booked Afternoon Tea. This was our first visit and I have to say it won’t be our last. What a hidden gem! It is a 50’s/60’s style place, so wonderfully retro. I have been to a lot of Afternoon Teas but this has to be the biggest I have had. We had homemade sausage rolls, wraps, scotch eggs and pork pie on the top tier then Coronation Chicken and also Tuna Mayo brioche buns and on bottom tier gorgeous Brie and cranberry and also egg mayo sandwiches on the bottom with very nice crisps. On to the second 3 tier stand with huge delicious home made apricot sponge cake, large Rock Roads and beautiful scones with jam and cream. My photos show all of this however along side all of this we also had potato salad, coleslaw, a bowl of salad with croutons and also pots of piccalilli and ploughman’s pickle. We could have unlimited tea, there was even little wrapped biscuits with the tea and a final wrapped chocolate. It was all very lovely and delicious, the staff serving us were amazing and I would 100 percent recommend a visit. They also do great lunchtime meals and we will be returning for their pie and mash with liquor/ gravy. This is a hidden gem.

The service was excellent with all the staff being welcoming, friendly and attentive. This was backed up by the quality and quantity of the food. There was 9 of us dining before an afternoon walk and the speed of the service was outstanding. Highly recommend The Plough

Four of us went, we all thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were very good/helpful/attentive. Really enjoyed the experience. The train was spotlessly clean. It was pouring with rain when we arrived and a member of staff walked us under his brolly from our car to the entrance. Had a great time

This a beautiful pub in a very picturesque town. We heard great reviews from the locals and were very excited to have dinner there on a Saturday night. However we had a very disappointing experience. There was one table of three apart from my partner and I and no one else came in all evening. Food was bland. Butternut squash Dahl was comically bad. Mash potatoes consistency and zero flavor. Fish on the fish and chips was huge but tasted so blad. Chips portion was average for 20 pound main course and only just cooked through due to their "chunkiness". Floor is the toilet floor were soaking wet and frankly a slip hazard. Staff were pleasant and the venue is beautiful. I like to think we caught them on a bad night but we won't be back to test that theory.

We booked Sunday lunch with my sister and brother in law, we wanted to try the Chestnut Horse with the intention to book for Christmas. The starters were lovely but not to be said for the main course, my sister and I had the roast beef, the beef was cut thickly and the whole plate full was verging on cold, my sister order extra cauliflower cheese which arrived towards the end of her meal. We ordered puddings, my sisters came first, ice cream, and ours arrived half an hour later and was not fully as we ordered. The staff were very pleasant and apologetic. Such a shame for a lovely country pub.

Went in this morning for toast and coffee. The toast was bearly warm let alone toasted, one side was still totally uncooked. We asked for marmite with IT, and was given marmalade, when I said we wanted marmite I was told we don't have any! We only got 1 small pack of butter per slice which hardly covered half of it. The coffee was the worst coffee we have ever had in any costa we have visited. It all looked really unclean and dirty. The staff member who served us was rude, I think she thought she we doing us a favour. RUBBISH BREAKFAST AND VERY UNPROFESSIONAL, IN A DIRTY ENVIRONMENT.

Didn't catch her name but about a month back i stumbled over at 6:30 having stayed in the Travelodge over night in desperate need of a proper coffee and whichever lady had just come on shift made me the best cappuccino I've ever had. Rich smooth and creamy without any burnt tastes or bitterness. I can't say I drink a lot of Costa, just tends to be white I'm travelling, but I've had some terrible cups made before and this was just the thing I needed first thing in the morning

I met with my 3 bridesmaids to discuss all things wedding as i don’t live locally to them. From the moment we arrived we were treated wonderfully. With a wonderful atmosphere between the team and with us. As a restaurant attached to a hotel my expectation was low but we all came away smiling and feeling like we’d all been looked after ☺️

Unsure why there are bad reviews for this restaurant. We were staying at the hotel as a family with a 2 year old. We really enjoyed our food. The staff were great. Great deal where kids eat free with paying adult. Would definitely eat there again

Abusive staff unwilling to assist when I had difficulty ordering at the kiosk. Argued that kiosk working well. I walked away. They obviously are not interested in customers. Later tried BK at Fleet Services - they could not have been more different. Friendly and helpful.
