As The Royal is our local, we do pop in to enjoy the relaxed, and very welcoming atmostphere that The Royal provides, wether that be for a drink, weekend cocktail (thank you Cain for your fabulous Espresso Martinis) or lunch or dinner with family or friends. This afternoon booked a table for Sunday lunch. We have been here for an few sunday roasts, but i have to say...Oh my word, today's Sunday roast was absolutely exceptional, we could not fault a single thing. Amazing, keep up the fantastic work in the kitchen Pete and Chris :-) we love it.

We decided on Sunday morning to try the Red Lion for lunch, and booked a table for 1330. We arrived and were met by efficient staff who were expecting us and offered us a choice of table. Drinks were ordered from a knowledgeable waiter and arrived quickly, mine being a very well-kept pint from tge local Amwell Springs brewery. We both chose beef from an extremely well thought-out menu which again arrived after only a short wait. The meat was beautifully cooked and presented on a large plate with very well cooked greens, carrots and a freshly-made Yorkshire puddings. Sides of cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes were excellent, probably the best roasties I've had, and the horseradish was similarly delicious. We both cleared our plates and the side dishes. Utterly gorgeous, go and see for yourself.

The 1st pint of Guinness I have sampled in this area that DOES NOT taste like cheap cider, Well done. Food looks good. People are nice. Would be nice to have hot water in the gents toilets to wash the hands with, But cleanliness gets a tick. 8/10

Lovely pub in a lovely location. Great dog walking right from the pub. Highly recommend the sausage and mash.

New owners have done a great job with the new menu. We've been a few times for food and left impressed. The roast dinners are fabulous.

I am a kind of burger fan, my other half celebrates the national fish and chips day here 😊, but I would say here the Scottish Cod and the Berrick Burger are the non-plus ultra of pub food nationwide ✅ All ingredients supplied by local farms, bakeries. Hospitality, kindness, five stars, A+ class. Pets friendly, playground for kids, beer garden, spacious carpark, friendly locals. Strongly recommended place☝

Nous avions réservé et nous nous sommes retrouvé dans un salle très petite et sans fenêtre. Tout est dit! Plats corrects sans plus. Service moyen. Globalement decu

A fantastic place for Sunday Lunch. Although we had a little wait as the restaurant was busy it was worth it. All five of us had empty plates after the main and dessert. The pork I had was very succulent, there was plenty of vegetables on the plate and roast potatoes. The chicken dinner was just the same. The burgers also went down very well. Between us we had the Lemon meringue cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding. The cheesecake was simply outstanding. The staff were very polite and the service was great. Will definitely be visiting again.

Was looking forward to a club sandwich in The George Bistro. At £12 I was expected something awesome. After an extremely long wait (there was only one other person) it arrived and was a big let down, and to add insult one of the bread slices on the triple decker was burnt black. This shows a lack of care, how difficult was it to re-toast another slice of cheap white bread. A garage sandwhich would have been better
