I am a kind of burger fan, my other half celebrates the national fish and chips day here 😊, but I would say here the Scottish Cod and the Berrick Burger are the non-plus ultra of pub food nationwide ✅ All ingredients supplied by local farms, bakeries. Hospitality, kindness, five stars, A+ class. Pets friendly, playground for kids, beer garden, spacious carpark, friendly locals. Strongly recommended place☝

WAS Great meals. Lovely staff. Good beer. Superb. Mmmmmmm. All changed after Dec 2023 visit. Friday night we were just about the only people there. No atmosphere. 4 of us. Freezing cold they had not prepared the fire and warmed the place up. We were sitting there with our coats on. Food was nice but it has become immensely overpriced. I did have a couple of drinks my wife didn't. Average of two meal courses each. Bill was somewhere in the region of 180. It is simply pub grub. We can't justify 45 per head. They chose to include in our price a tip for a table of 4. We see now why the pub was empty on a Friday. Loved the place but cannot return. Sad.

Lovely country pub in the village of Berrick Salome, just 5 minutes drive from Benson. It is now under new management and they’ve made a big effort with the layout and retaining a country pub vibe. I’ve had 2 meals there, and both have been excellent. Tonight I had the haddock and chips. The haddock was beautifully cooked with a lovely even layer of beer batter over it. This I’m informed, is done by using gluten free beer for the batter! Good choice of dessert available. The staff are all very helpful and friendly The prices are very reasonable and I’d have no hesitation in recommending them.

Excellent Sunday Roast! 3 adults and a child attended and sat next to a roaring fire which we very much enjoyed. The service was outstanding with my 8 year old son commenting “The people in here are just so kind!”. Delicious roast with a generous portion, lovely pork, half decent roast potatoes, great veg and the best gravy and yorkshires. Accompanying sauces were plentiful and I was met with warmth when asking for a little extra gravy which made us all very happy. Will be back to visit again soon, highly recommend.

Used to love coming here however the cost of meals and the quality has really taken a sharp turn in the wrong direction. 2 adults and 2 children to have a roast dinner and a pudding with a drink for nearly £140 is bonkers. Charged £5 for a kids Apple Juice which says it all.

We have been here before and it was lovely but recently went in for lunch and was so disappointing. The staff were pleasant but not too effective, we waited for an hour for food with a young child yet others coming in after were served first and they were not that attentive or communicated anything let alone say sorry for the wait. The food was ok but the vegetables in the risotto were not cooked and inedible. The staff just said oh and nothing more was done. So many dogs were allowed into the eating area as well, we love dogs but there is a time and place and when there was growling and barking throughout in the restaurant, not sure why they are not restricted to the bar and garden especially due to hygiene. Finally as we had waited so long we went out to the play area which looks as though it has been neglected. It was dirty with glass bottles left in the climbing frame. Such a shame has this had new management in the last year? It was so disappointing and with the number of nice places in the area we won’t be rushing back if at all.

Went for father's day. Can honestly say.. we won't be returning! £21 for cold Yorkshires 3 undercooked potatoes and 1 carrot. Oh and a little cabbage. Our response from mangerment was...how expensive the cost of meat is!! This was once a lovely place for a lovely roast. Shame!!! I now find myself adding to this review after beening made aware that you have messged my daughter asking for this to be taken down. This is unacceptable!! I've worked in this industry for many years...and your handling of a situation is totally unprofessional. I'm fully aware of the cost of produce. But that doesn't justify it being served cold...and undercooked!! I guess your customer service skills will improve with experience and understanding that people are entitled to an option...well...here's hoping!!

We visited The Chequers during the Rokefest music event on the late May Bank Holiday. As I am avoiding beer and sugary drinks (including fruit juice) I thought I'd buy a white wine spritzer from the bar, as the only drinks available outside in the garden was beer on tap for a fiver a pint. I asked for a large glass of white wine topped up with soda water (on "tap" rather than a bottle) and was charged £9! I queried the price and was told that a large glass of wine (ie 250ml) was £9. Later someone bought a pint of soda water from the "tap" and was charged £2.50 for that. I have no idea if that is the normal price charged at that pub, or whether they were making up prices to cash in on the festival? Either way, it has put me off ever going there again. I was in London at the weekend in an Italian restaurant and their large glass of wine was about £5, just for a comparison!!

We arrived on Bank Holiday Monday to be told that the pub was closed because they were clearing up after the Ale weekend. However, Arran kindly told us that if all we wanted was a drink, he would open the pub for us. What a fantastic "can do attitude"! He then had to find clean glasses for us and apologised profusely for the state of the pub that morning - he didn't need to - we could not have been made to feel more welcome. We shall certainly be returning as soon as our diary permits either for dinner of Sunday lunch. In the meantime, thank you Arran and team for making us feel so valued.

We come from France and were on vacation in a cottage a few meters away from the pub. Our car had broken down and we had nowhere else to go to eat so we're glad we found this pub. The food was good, though a bit too pricey imo, but what we enjoyed the most was the warm welcome by the waiter. He was so friendly and nice, he clearly was the highlight of our unlucky and unpleasant holiday we just had. Everybody else in the county had been mean or unwelcoming to us, except for him. He spoke with us and seemed interested in us. Most importantly: he was smilling! He is the first english waiter/service person we saw smiling in the week. So, a huge thank you to you Sir for making us feel welcome and for making our last evening in the country, a success <3 keep being like you are, nice and fun and welcoming to strangers.

The place was cosy and pleasant, and buzzing with people (and dogs!). Sunday roast is notoriously difficult to serve to a large crowd, but I'm glad to say our food was very nice, both the roast itself as well as our starters. Unfortunately service was quite slow. Unfortunately have to give a low rating. I’d like to give 3 stars but here are my reasons. As part of our meal, we had the chicken pakora, however the middle of one of them was raw, and while we did not have to pay for this, my wife had an upset stomach as a result of not noticing the pinkness in the middle until it was too late. The reasoning behind this from a member of staff was that the kitchen would have temperature tested a thinner part of the pakora. I’m pretty sure everyone knows you’re meant to test the biggest part so while it was a mistake, the pricing structure and quality should include the correct temperature checking process before sending food out. The second reason to give a lower rating was when we received the bill, the buy one get one free deal was not and if I didn’t realise, I’d have paid the full amount. “Not on the ball” for a semi quiet Thursday evening is not good enough for a place that is rated as highly as it is.

By all accounts we were a bit of an awkward group (14 people, only there for desserts and drinks) but the staff were so warm and accommodating with no hint that we were an inconvenience 😅 they joined our separately booked tables together (it wasn't possible to book for 14 online) without hesitation or drama. Would definitely visit again.

Food was good, but enforcement of mask wearing was lacking, a large group appeared, not a single mask in site!!! And to cap it all we have been pinged by NHS covid app to tell us we have exposed to covid!!

Absolutely 💯 fabulous, really delicious food, atmosphere great, staff very pleasant and welcoming. We were all had a relaxing evening many thanks to everyone, we will be going again!! 😀👍 Since my first review we have been back so many times and as always food, value, atmosphere, and everything else about the Red Lion is absolutely brilliant. There's a wonderful new seating area outside which looks great. They also have live music where a great time is had by all. Can't wait for our next visit.

Just want to say a massive thank you to Kate and her husband! Were kind enough to let us pitch a tent in the pub garden after cycling the Chiltern Way. Super friendly and great beers as well! Definitely a must stop if in the area.

We can not fault the food, the food was delicious. The only thing that let our visit down was the service. We had our starters cleared and wasn’t offered another drink even though we had empty glasses. Mains came (still empty glasses) and even though we addressed that partner didn’t like onions we were assured that we would be fine with the steak only to find out it had onions in the sauce, partner asked if peppercorn sauce was available, chef said it would be 5 which we said no problem, partner waited to eat steak, got to 15 minutes later so we chased up the sauce only to find out the waitress thought we said don’t worry about it. In that time we had to hunt for vinegar as wasn’t asked if we needed any sauces and then went to the bar to get more drinks and ask for ketchup as also wasn’t offered. There was only 3 tables but plenty of staff on floor so no need for poor service. Must point out the manager did come and apologise.

Having visited and dined at The Black Horse on numerous occasions I can only surmise that the AI review is for another establishment!!! On our most recent visit we enjoyed several dishes from the menu, all excellent, a special mention must go to the oak smoked pork ribeye, truly mouthwatering. Our service from Jess was exemplary, attentive but not intrusive. She should give masterclasses. All in all a splendid lunchtime experience.

We booked Crazy Bear Stadhampton as a treat for our wedding anniversary and were looking forward to our 2 night stay and dinner in the Thai restaurant on our anniversary day in early November. We were a bit concerned that we didn’t get a response to an email (sent prior to booking) and couldn’t get anyone to answer the phone when we tried to call prior to our arrival. This lead us to check online reviews which were mostly negative particularly for the restaurants. We had a feeling of trepidation. However, everything was excellent. We had booked a Boujee room (these I understand are just down the road from the main hotel) but were upgraded free of charge to a Decadent room. The room was fab, very spacious and had a copper bath at the bottom of the bed. We had a wet room with lovely fluffy towels and robes. The grounds and hotel were lovely, very funky and fun - would be nice to go back at a busier time in the summer. Staff were all lovely and took care of us. Our Thai dinner was really nice with good sized portions. We had a starter each, a main and a shared side dish. Just a few observations to be aware of: Drinks and food are pretty expensive with added service charges. There was only a coffee machine in the room, no tea making options. (I popped round to the garage and grabbed a couple of tea’s on the first morning) Our room (room 10) had another room above. If the occupants of that room are a bit inconsiderate and up and down a lot, it can be irritating and noisy. But over-all we had a wonderful stay and a good experience.
