Right from booking our table, through to welcoming us to the pub/table, taking our orders and keeping us happy the staff and food were just superb. The staff were courteous, polite and helpful and the food was just divine. Beautifully cooked Belly of Pork and Turkey, accompanied by a selection of fresh vegetables, cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes, stuffing and a fluffy Yorkshire Pudding. Dessert was just as good - two of us had the Triple Chocolate Sundae and one had the Sticky Toffee Pudding. We did not find fault with anything. Pub and toilets are clean and all well laid out.

What a gem to find. We visited this pub after a lovely walk in the area and we were very pleasantly surprised. The exterior of the pub is gorgeous, with beautiful flowering baskets everywhere and a very well kept garden with plenty of seating. As the pub is off the road, its really peaceful, a great place to sit and relax with a drink and food. We visited with friends and each of us had a different main course. All the food was delicious and the burger was huge, clearly home made and very tasty. The service was attentive and friendly. This is our first time here and won't be our last. A really fabulous country pub 👌 ❤️

I was one of a large group of runners and walkers who lunched here (AFTER our exercise!) As its pictures show, this is a quintessential English country pub, almost invisible from the road - but well signposted - and set at the back of a large garden for outdoor dining. The interior is equally attractive. Given our number, we had all pre-ordered: I was eligible to choose the 'vintage' offer of a reduced size main, in my case a chicken & bacon Caesar's Salad, and similarly downsized desert of chocolate brownie and ice cream for a set price: great value. We bought our drinks and paid our bills at the bar before the food was brought outside quickly and efficiently: name called out, hand up, plate in front of you! Given the good weather, it all made for an excellent day out.

This is a gem of a pub. We have been three times in different seasons, sitting inside snd outside. The manager and her staff are always welcoming and caring and the atmosphere is great. The food is also excellent. Last week we were three people and we shared five starters and three puddings. Every dish was a delight to the palate: the pork belly pieces were the best I've ever had. The draught beer is perfect too. We look forward to our next visit.

My husband and I visited today for lunch. After a local dog walk this was the perfect lunchtime stop. Welcoming staff, cosy pub bar and a roaring fire! We took our seats by the window with plenty of space for our two greyhounds. The menu was varied and it was hard to narrow it down, but we chose crispy chilli beef and minute steak, both meals perfectly cooked and really tasty. We were even tempted to have puddings, which were equally delicious! Can’t wait to visit again and next time we will bring the children as we are sure they would love it too!

The food used to be pub food done very well. Now it's just very average. Veg either almost raw (which I liked) or so overcooked it is like school dinners (which is so 1970s retro). The rest - meh! together it needs to try much harder. Staff are super polite - just not that well trained. e.g. £5 for one teacup of hot chocolate. Seriously? It just aint that good - zero ambience and it was quite cold inside. Charge me more I don't care but make it good not deeply average please.

Food choice and quality was very good and you certainly couldn't grumble about the portion sizesBut the enthusiastic and friendly service wasn't up to scratch. Half our drinks order was delivered but the other half of the order didn't appear so we had to go chasing it. A tureen of gravy, together with two bowls of cauliflower cheese was put on the table about ten minutes before the meat was brought to us. The server didn't seem to see this as strange1All in all we enjoyed our meal but poor service when the pub was quite quiet stops me rating this as excellent overall.

The current management has put this pub up to the top of our favourite list again. We’ve eaten here a few times recently - as a couple, with a group of friends and even for my hen do. The food has always been spot on but most importantly, the atmosphere and service is what every pub should aspire to. Simple things like calling to check if we wanted a table outside as the weather was going to be good! When planning my hen do, Kate was super helpful, enthusiastic and personable. She prepared a perfect sharing menu and made sure we were well looked after all evening. The staff were lovely - really attentive but not pretentious at all and we had the secret garden to ourselves. Can’t recommend this pub enough! We eat out a lot and what really stands out is their passion for what they do. Looking forward to spending many more happy times here :)

The pub and surrounds were looking glorious as we came up the garden path for our Father's Day lunch. We were immediately looked after by the attentive and well trained young staff and a lovely tempo was maintained throughout our meal. The roast chicken and roast pork options (best tasting pork I've had in a long time) came with all the usual accompaniments - excellent! The mussels were so fresh, with a finger licking garlic, white wine and cream sauce - my 91 year old father didn't speak throughout, he was enjoying his lunch so much. Added to that, he chose the banoffee ice cream sundae which topped off his special day. This is the second time we've eaten out recently at The Rising Sun, which also serves a fine SA Chenin Blanc and a well kept Brakspear Oxford Gold, and we will be back soon. Recommend a visit.

The pub itself is about 10 minutes outside of Henley and has good parking and is a very traditional old fashioned country pub with a nice atmosphere. The staff were friendly and attentive and the Sunday roasts were very tasty, with fresh vegetables, rather than frozen. I asked for my meal extra-hot and this was done without any problems and the temperature was perfect. The menu is simple and straightforward, this is traditional pub food and not a gastro-pub- so if that is what you are looking for this pub ticks all the boxes.

A 'traditional' English Country Pub, we stumbled across the Rising Sun on the recommendation of a friend, tucked away in Witheridge Hill near Henley. Good pub food and good portions. The Fish 'n' Chips' should be called 'Whale 'n' Chips' We also had muscles, burger and steak. Well cooked, beautifully presented, and all delivered to the table, hot and at the same time. Very careful measures to ensure Covid safety had been taken, spaced out tables, sanitised menus and attention to touch points. We felt reassured and in safe hands. What I would really like to mention, is that both my daughter and I are gluten intolerant. It is so nice to see such a vast choice including fish and chips and onion rings, neither of which my daughter or I have had in a pub setting since we were diagnosed. So it makes a lovely change to not have to choose from about 2/3 things. We'll definitely be back.

Perfect out door seating for a barmy summers night. The Morreti lager was outstanding, as it should be. The Chek lager was hammy, like the pipes needed cleaning. My spiced bean burger was insulting to beans and vegetarians, but the butternut curry just about saved it. There wasn't much else to choose from. Perhaps the menu was designed for Boris's 2 4 1 deal Monday to Wednesday, meagre choice with zero frills. It wasnt until the next morning some thoughts occurred to me; should garnishing a curry with watercress instead of coriander be allowed? When a waiter expresses his disgust at the food in jest, is it Freudian? Like I said, the Moretti beer was outstanding.

Will and Kate the new landlords didn’t turn an eye when I asked for hot water for my Lemsip instead of my usual local tipple, the residents pups watched my shoes as they dried by the fire, Kate cooked a fantastic cauliflower cheese and toasted sour dough ( the cheese was made from up the road) and when it came to leaving my socks still weren’t dry. We stopped here on route on our motorbike. The service was lovely and friendly. Food was INCREDIBLE. Amazing country pub and garden, secluded and peaceful.

The minute you go through the entrance the first thing you notice is the stale smell , nothing to do with the “shabby chic” style, they simply need a deep clean throughout. This was the only negative as the food – even simple traditional dishes – was absolutely first-class, every detail of every dish was prepared to perfection. Very pleasant service from the staff who almost seemed to outnumber the customers at one point. But sadly I did find the standard of housekeeping offputting, and would not rush to invite or recommend to others, a pity since they have got the key elements right.

Visited for the first time today after recommendations and we were very impressed, friendly welcome, attentitive staff and great roasts, we went for the trio of roasts (Beef, Lamb & Pork) and it was huge, plenty of meat accompanied by roast and mash potato's, parsnips, yorkshire with stuffing ball, cauliflower and brocolli in cheese sauce aswell as carrots and spring greens, as much gravy as you wanted and basket of bread, we were looking forward to the eton mess pudding but just couldn't manage it. will definately return and highly recommend.

My wife and I popped out for a quick drink and bite to eat. We had a burger and good old fish and chips washed down by some excellent Brakspeare’s bitter and a couple of glasses of wine. Both dishes were delicious and exactly as you would have hoped.

This was the second time I have been here, not being local I arrived 15 minutes late but that didn't seem to worry the staff, who as well as being busy managed to remain pleasant and attentive throughout the time we were there. Recommend the daily pie, which was made from scratch and with the included veg etc was a very good size meal for the price.

We were warned that there was a wait for food on a busy Sunday service, but when the food arrived it was a let down.

We have rented a cottage quite close to the Rising Sun and gave it a try on our first evening. Nice local atmosphere. Good food: I had a delicious red mullet. Dog friendly, so we could take our lab. Amicable service. Reasonable wines. Perhaps the only drawback is that the menu is quite limited. In our case we were lucky with the daily specials. But we decided to explore The Crooked Billet and The Greyhound the next evenings because of their wider range of choices. However, for a simple and pleasant evening meal, the Rising Sun is recommended! On a warm day, you can also sit outside!

This pub has been a favourite of mine for at least 15 years. It has all the qualities of the classic English country local - an unspoiled, old building in a quiet, traffic free country setting. Sit inside in its unspoiled, unmodernised bar with a log fire in winter among the bar chat, or in good weather sit outside at picnic tables against a background of birdsong. From pub grub, some years ago the kitchen upped it's quality to near gastro quality but still at reasonable prices. Sadly that management departed and now the menu is singularly uninspired, back to basic pub grub.

We were looking for a traditional pub as we were visiting Stonor Park. The new manager was incredibly friendly, and made sure that we and everyone there was getting everything they needed. Beautiful setting, and i'm looking forward to going back in winter as the intereior was a truly historic pub setting. Outside could use a bit of design work to make it as charming as the inside, but the buidling is too charming for words, food was some of the best trad pub food i've had, and serivce wonderful!!

A tremendous Oxfordshire pub with good quality food! I had a chicken curry with basmati rice along with naan bread, a poppadom and mango chutney followed by an apple crumble with custard for dessert! Both the main meal and dessert were absolutely divine! The waiter and waitress were both considerately friendly as well as welcoming and additionally the service was outstanding! I would absolutely return to this Brakspear pub again!

Before making a booking do check when the kitchen's close (we were rather rushed into making menu choices) The food was very good & the service was friendly. The gardens are nice. We will go back again & book an earlier slot.

On a quiet Tuesday evening we found this excellent pub. The rustic modern decor, the soft but good lighting and the homely feel of the place was restful and idyllic. The service was excellent and the food really tasty. We had a wonderful evening finishing off with a scrumptious toffee pudding with salted caramel ice cream. Very yummy.
